These are the type of things that can happen while traveling. As i was waiting for another UA-camr, a man approached me and asked me if i had seen the Errol Flynn marina and other parts of Port Antonio that were very historical and had an important significance on the history of this area. I hadn’t even known these sights were in town and within walking distance so, i trusted him and we walked around town. This guy was actually really knowledgeable and even showed me the first high school that was built in port Antonio in 1748. I felt this was a good video because it shows you some history and some sights that you can also see on your visit to port Antonio.

The Jamaica colour is gold, black and green.
The gold symbolize our sunshine, the green the land and black for strong and creative people.
Yes i was told this 👌🏽
I like that comment..however the Green is the vegetation Black the soil/dirt.
Yellow is sunshine too.
As a child we were taught the meaning of the colours of the flag represent as follows.
Black;times are hard.
Green, the land is fertile.
Yellow, the sun always shines..
Very nice bro I'm loving your videos of jamaica . I'm a jamaican living in states for over 34 years now and I'm so ready to move back home .all we in the states is work and pay bills no fun here

Errol Flyn was a famous actor. The man made up his own history
😂😂
I know i read it on the plaque that’s in the marina lol no harm done the man was just tryna give me some history 😂
Totally agree I am from Port Antonio. He is a hussler.

Yes Flynn was a movie star but also live in Jamaica same Portland and own a lot of land and after he die his family takes over.
As a tourist, I think you need a car to see all the beautiful parts of Portland - Frenchman's cove, the falls, rivers, blue lagoon etc

This is a very much interesting...this knows a lot of history in Jamaica...
I thought he was a kind fellow to help me out 👌🏽
Portland was the first place in Jamaica where cruise ships used to dock, not large ships, small ones. Because of rocks in the water which need to be rid of and make the water deeper so it could accommodate large ships. Which didn't happen. The government neglected Portland which is a very nice place, lush green vegetation, but crying out for development and face-lift. Instead of upgrading Portmore to a city or parish. Portland could develop and become a city.
Interesting take 👌🏽
The Royal Family used to visit Portland a lot
@@gail-annbrown8901 that’s incredible history!
I'm from Port Antonio born and raised. This is the parish where tourism started. And this so-called guide do not know what the hell he's talking about how could Errol Flynn started in Port Antonio before the slave trade? Before the slave trade they were only Arawak Indian here and for the person who said only small boat use to docks here not true big cruise ships and war ships use to dock at Boundbrook wharf and Errol Flynn Marina
@hyacinthgiscombe2597 Portland was the first parish to welcome cruise ships is a form of historical moment which should be kept and maintained. It's a shame it wasn't. Improvement could have been done. But because of Jamaica's lacklustre authorities who weren't thinking positively about Portland. They only focused on the North Coast.! Comment from the UK
Thanks!

Portland is all about nature, very green, farming and community living... Lots of free beaches to enjoy ..its the opposite to ocho Rios....lots if organic food...
Yes I’m loving the organic food!
Fun Fact: The Red brick building is DeMontevin Lodge built in 19881. It's a mix of Victorian and Gingerbread architectural style and the ironwork designed and casted in Scotland. It has housed Queen Elizabeth II's mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons Queen Mother, as well as other celebrities You were also right, it was the home of somebody important- The Custos of Portland....... Other notable places to in visit in Portland are Reach Falls, Somerset Falls, Rafting on the Rio Grande, Charles Town Maroon settlement and Turtle Bay. If u get a chance also visit the south coast and see Pelican's Bar out in the sea.

That church is older than 59 years. It’s renovated though. I used to spend school holidays near that church. When I was a child those buildings were already there and I’m 41. You could’ve gone the the hotel to learn the history. These houses are protected to keep the old look. They can’t change them up too much. My cousin bought a house up there and he had restrictions as to what he was allowed to do or not.
That’s good to have restrictions though because it keeps the place original 👌🏽
Beautiful area, but I noticed no people on the street. Shout out to the tour guide. ❤

That high school use to be a British army base during colonial times. They turned it into a high school a few decades ago.

@@PoJoTheBackPacker Nice one, thank you, left for the UK 20 years ago when I was a kid, it's a tiny place but it has some hidden gems. Will keep watching. Keep safe.
@PoJoTheBackPacker I have heard you ask about Devon House ice cream in this and another video with @blessupjess. The fact is: Devon House is a Manor House in Kingston, and you were actually there.
They started making ice cream to sell publicly from the property. Because of the popularity, they started selling ice cream off the property.
In fact, you were with blessupjess standing in front of a bust of the first owner of Devon House in Kingston. This is what was engraved, "George Stiebel. The Devon House mansion was then built by Stiebel, Jamaica's first black millionaire.
Interesting history thank you for this 👌🏽

Titchfield High School is one the five oldest high schools in Jamaica. The colours of the Jamaican flag are black, green and gold.
I truthfully believe it and to be honest from what i seen on the outside it still looked really good 💪🏽
I don’t think Kemar knows his history. Did he say Errol Flynn was a slave owner? My knowledge is Errol Flynn was a wealthy man but he was a very famous American actor.
You are correct
He didn’t say that he was a slave owner please listen to what he said, he clearly stated that he had his riches before he came to Jamaica and then he proceeded to make his point by showing him the information board to prove his point, he’s his a great tour guide to take the time to show him around I hope he shows his appreciation.
I think Titchfield is the school that Michael Lee Chin attended. He is a billionaire Jamaican-Canadian who sometimes docks his multi-million dollar yacht in this area.
Another person of note who attended Titchfield is Dr.Kingsley Chin who is an orthopedic surgeon and inventor. He's a multi-millionaire too, He operates out of Miami and Boston and owns the local football club there in Portland.
Wow that’s absolutely crazy!!
@@PoJoTheBackPacker Thanks for showcasing my country, bro.
I almost drowned trying to make the swim to Navy Island as that guy told you the locals do. I was sixteen at the time, and decided to join a group of boys who were doing the trip.
Crazy as heck I’m a good swimmer and am not swimming that distance lol
@@PoJoTheBackPacker I'm not a great swimmer, but my close encounter with drowning was more so caused by a false alarm: someone in the group had shouted, "Barracuta!" And that set off a panic with everybody trying to swim back to shore. But somehow I lost my way, got tired and sank. It was only my will to survive that saved me. After taking in water, and no one making any effort beyond shouting for me to swim, I successfully willed my way back. Since that near-miss, I haven't ventured into water deeper than my height!
Dont say Jamaicans, say some
Jamaicans have it hard or ate hustlers. Most Jamaicans are living their best lives. Look how beautiful the park is that you are walking in it is for us locals. Slave trade is long gone. A man told you a story about his story.; Not the Jamaucan story because that is a sucess. We have overcome and now enjoying our lives. This young man has chosen this path however;
He did a great job representing his history.👍 These are some of my favourite places.
Sorry to offend you
Devon House, built in 1881, is the former residence of George Stiebel (1820-1896). Jamaica's first Black millionaire. He was appointed as the Custos, a high civic post, of St. Andrew. The chain of Devon house ice cream parlors are named after his home.

Errol Leslie Thomson Flynn (20 June 1909 - 14 October 1959) was an Australian actor who achieved worldwide fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He appeared in many swashbuckling films. He gained fame in Hollywood in the 1930s.
Flynn fell in love with Jamaica and he and his third wife, Patrice Wymore, moved full-time to Port Antonio in 1950, where they lived at least some of the time on Zaca, moored at Navy Island.
He was the screen's foremost swashbuckler. His best-known movies included Captain Blood, Robin Hood, etc…
