I'm from Clarendon and didn't know we had flamingoes. Hhhmm maybe that's why I saw them at Denbig Festival as a child.
There was some at Hope zoo.

As usual, the Ukrainian girl impressed me with her extensive and authentic knowledge of Jamaica. Thanks Miss Irene, you a de bes’.
That’s because most Jamaicans don’t read our history, but instead conjecture about it based on emotions.
Don't do that. Don't say that about Jamaicans. This lady is a journalist by training, there is no comparison. @@SDBOGLE

You consider the truth a negative? Just like when I tell people, no Africans were taking to Jamaica, as no language from West Africa was documented as being spoken, and another truth you may deny only because many believe Africa is the only place black people lived before Columbus and could never be anywhere else.

The accent is a stereotypical Caribbean accent from an American perspective.

Exactly. It's sort or a template for the American version of the Jamaican accent.

Never heard about this film, but I'll definitely check it out. Re fake Jamaican accents, on one of my visits back home to Jamaica years ago I had the good fortune to meet a famous radio personality. We got to talking and he told me about an experience he had while living in the US. He found an ad in the newspaper one day looking for Jamaican speakers for a radio commercial. Well, he thought to himself, he's an experienced radio personality from Jamaica so he should be the perfect candidate for the job. He applied and they invited him in for an audition. They gave him a text to read with a Jamaican accent and so he read it in his best radio voice. He then noticed that they didn't seem happy with the results. "Can you do that again with a JAMAICAN accent?" He didn't know exactly what they meant, but he tried again, this time more clearly enunciation the words. But the producers still didn't look happy with the outcome. They wanted him to try and sound more "Jamaican". Now he was completely confused. He's a Jamaican, with years of experience as a radio host, and he's speaking the text with a Jamaican accent...how much more "Jamaican" does it get than that? So one of the producers demonstrated what they were looking for, and it sounded NOTHING like a real Jamaican accent. They wanted him to speak that phony, fake Jamaican accent with lots of "mon" at the end of every sentence, exactly like those birds from the movie excerpt above. He tried telling them that no one in Jamaica talks like that, but it was no use - THAT's what they wanted to hear. So he just shook his head, swallowed his pride and spoke the text in the accent they were looking for. He didn't think he did a good job but there were ecstatic, and the more idiotic he made it, the more rapturous was their reaction. He said he felt very ashamed as a Jamaican reinforcing that stupid American stereotype of Jamaicans, but at the time he really needed the income. This is why we'll NEVER hear a proper Jamaican accent in a Hollywood movie, despite the hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans living in the US who they could easily hire to provide an authentic example.
So sad, but makes a lot of sense!
Spot on. Dem need fi give Sheryl Lee Ralph more work. 😡
😂😂😂sad but true.
To be fair how many Americans would understand a true Jamaican accent. I live in the UK, I thought all English people understood patois as everybody in my school did (white, brown and black)I was 18 when I found out that not everyone in England understands patois. Almost caused a fight as I thought he was ignoring me.
@@davidfbrush Exactly!
As I Jamaican living in UK.iam proud of the job you are doing for Jamaica.keep it up.thanks you alot.
Historically, Jamaica was famous for bird lovers. Honestly Jamaica is like no other 🤔 breathtakingly beautiful and green. The animation got it wrong on some things but as you highlighted so gracefully the island is one in a million!

Thanks as always Irena, great review of Migration.
The parrot sounds like a Trini.

No, no Caribbean Islander sounds like that
Irena, you've never failed to provide content that not only entertains but educates. Thanks for sharing,
Thank you Irie for continually helping people like me a Jamaican to learn things about Jamaica. Thank you....
Flamingos are normally on the salt flats but generally in the mangrove area in the Rocky Point region in Clarendon.
Ok ! Just finished watching “Migration “ now I’m ready for your video ! ✌️💕🇨🇦
Me too lol. I had to watch Migration before watching this video as well.
I live in Portugal and because of that movie and the luminous lagoon, my son wants to go to Jamaica.
We're planning to go in 2025
Hi Irie our 🇯🇲Jamaican Embasador 👋🏽
Still doing a great job 👍
So enjoyable, especially the Dr birds; reminded me of when I was a kid playing with them.
Many thanks Keep up the Good work 🙏🏽
Born and grow up in Jamaica yes I see everything you talk about in early years
Empress Irina, my jamaican sista. again, you didn't disappoint! Nice, professional review. I love how you always say "we" when you talk about Jamaica...It show your love for Jamaica.
Just one likkle question tho.. are your kids patwa (patios) better than yours?
Thank you! 😊 We all understand Jamaican creole (patois), but we don't speak it well, just a few phrases that make Jamaicans cringe and/or laugh. Foreigners are never good at trying to speak Jamaican language, nor copying the accent.
What an awesome video. I like your cheerfulness, attention to details, and personal amusing touches. This video reminds me how much I want to revisit beautiful places in Portland and St. Andrew, as well as see places I have never been yet like the Luminous Lagoon. Your commentary and editing is top notch.
P.S. the “Jamaican” accent of that bird is way off, yet has a Caribbean vibe… Like others, I wish they hired an authentic Jamaican actor for the part.
Isn't there also a pond in Jamaica where the water can be ignited while you swim in it?
@@StGCfiLife Yes there is...Fire Water Mineral Spring in St. Ann's Bay I believe.

Very good as usual. I've seen flamingos in Jamaica, either in Negril or Montego Bay. It's great to see Jamaica portrayed in a positive light. Keep up the excellent work.
Duck a l' orange!! This one had me howling. It's you with orange on top! Da one dey really funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂 😂
Perfect presentation…love every moment of it even I was not Jamaican. You vloggers, you especially, have contributed so much to Jamaica’s tourism. This is better than any advertisement… maybe the reason I don’t see Jamaica TV commercials anymore.
A lot of those flamingos were in Montego Bay, the marshland between Sandals Royals and Sandals Montego Bay
I am always impressed me with your arthentic knowledge of Jamaica.
Mallards do migrate to Jamaica, people go duck hunting during the season in St. Elizabeth for teal and mallard.
The Jamaican accent is still illusive to the American film industry. I hope they never get it right. 😂😂😂
I was born and raised in Jamaica, but you know Jamaica much more than I do.
This review was super cute.
I enjoyed this.
Thanks Irina.
You're créme de la créme 👌🏾

Baring the accent it looks like a fun movie which I'll check out. Jamaica is truly a beautiful place. What is there not to love about Jamaica. Thank you.
That " jamaican accent " makes me cringe still it's better than the Brad pitt one
thank you Irene for showcasing our beautiful country.

It would have made sense to get one of the thousands of Jamaican actors to voice the Jamaican parts. It would have been sweeter if they hired ME.

You have to remember they did not make this movie to show Jamaican bird…it’s about foreign bird migrate to Jamaica
And after the birds, the humans follows in larger quantities than the birds😂😂😂❤❤❤

You’re spot on Irina. I’m in the UK and watched the film earlier this year and I was beaming with pride in the cinema. IThe accent wasn’t really Jamaican but I was willing to look past it.
This was a fun video, had a smile all the way through.
IMO, the accent is hard to get just right, especially the intonation. Probably a specific example is rising pitch at the "Jamaica" at around 4:03. I feel like a Jamaican would be lowering on the last syllable of "Jamaica". But he does a decent job portraying a general "Caribbean" vibe (esp. in a work of fiction/fantasy). And it's nice that they based their visual work on actual Jamaican scenery. It definitely feels quite "authentic" despite being animated!
Yes, I saw Flamingos at Hope Gardens when I was a child.
I work at excellence oyster bay in falmouth and in the swamp area we see a beautiful flamingo. The first I ever see one all of the staff was trying to get a glimpse of it between the mangroves
oh wow! This is brilliant. I passed that place so many times, will pay more attention next time I'm driving there ))
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE you will not see that flamingo from the road it's when you drive down on the hotel property. Remember the hotel is on a peninsula with mangroves and the sea.crocodiles and turtles are in the mangroves too.
Wow… very impressive work. Thanks again, Irine!! ❤️🙏🏽🌺😃

"DEL-roy, de PHEH-rat! And what they should do next time they playing a Superbowl is play it in Jah-MAY-cah! Go see Migra-SHAN!"
1) Never knew we even had phehrats on Jamaica. I've only ever seen parrots 🤷
2) Randomly shouted syllables =/= a Jamaican accent
3) The year is 2024 (2023 when this came out) and Hollywood still believes that "If they black, they can do a Jamaican accent!" Patwah is essentially the Caribbean Scottish accent, in that everyone THINKS they can speak it convincingly, while native speakers just smile politely and die a little on the inside :')
😂
Thought it was more Irish than Scottish, but whatever it is, I love it 🇯🇲
So right. We natives die a little each time 😂
He did have a dialect coach, so I wonder what their background is. He obviously didn’t get it right, but I was glad they at least hired a coach. 🤷🏽♀️

I didn't like the accent at first but (and spoiler alert) I loved when he busted and flew out of the cage happy and said " yeah man!" Lol i think that is a thing that a lot of us unconsciously say and it made that little piece very relatable. For me at least.
Awesome Irina. Also, Crocs can be seen safely at the Holland Bay, St Thomas Crocodile Sanctuary owned and operated by one Mr Henriques. Oh, and no. The actor did not fully capture the subtle essences of the Jamaican accent. I Love your videos. One Love
