Welcome come back my people to a new video here in Portland Parish, specifically the Rio Grande River. I was contacted by another creator and he asked if i would like to join him and his family for a day on the river. As soon as we got there i was really excited to see what the day had in store as i was told we would be cooking as well as swimming in this river. On the menu was Pepsi chicken, French fry chicken, steamed fish, and rice and peas which is a staple in Jamaican cuisine. The Rio grande is an absolute beauty of a river and a must do if you’re ever in the Portland parish area.

Thar's so great that you were invited to the river!!!!! I love how my Jamaican people are so friendly!😊 I'm so happy you got to experience real Jamaica with the help of locals.
As a Jamaican this makes me happy!!!
I feel very fortunate for the way this country has been receiving me 👌🏽
It was a grand time 👌🏽
Because you're family.....

Thank you very much yes everyone was super nice 👌🏽
Bro that is it connect with the locals 👍🏿
Best way to do it👌🏽
Portland receives perhaps the most rain in Jamaica which helps to keep the temperature cooler than elsewhere, and the vegetation very green.
That’s good to know👌🏽 i love the greenery lol
So true 👍
Glad to see that you're definitely soaking up the Jamaican culture and food. Hope it's enough for you to crave coming back for more.
Thank you for the comment. I appreciate your support. Normally i like to explore a country for a month or so, so i think you will see plenty of Jamaica videos
I’m really enjoying your channel. I’m glad you got a chance to experienced the local people enjoying family and friends at a cookout. Most Jamaicans do both indoor and outdoor cooking because they do have to buy propane for cooking. Roasting breadfruit and yams is most often done outside no matter how much money people have. You have done so well. I would enjoy hosting you in my home parish of Hanover
Thanks for watching!
Thanks fam. This brings back so many memories.
We would make trips to Nassie Davis to wash clothes.
I remember having to walk to Fellowship to a shop and it seemed like the longest journey ever.

Sometimes we have gold and precious stones in the backyard but don't know it. We run abroad or overseas.
It is good to bring along your flip flop for beach and river. I have never heard of Pepsi Chicken. I guess people have their own recipes. Smiling! Caribbean People generally believe that their best dinner should be on Sundays. Fish is brain food.
Yea idn why i wore shoes this day because i walked in the river back and my feet were tore up 😭😂
@@PoJoTheBackPacker Wow! Get something called Dettol. Get out the bacteria.

Pojo please don't forget to visit the fountain of youth up in the blue mountains 💙 you will absolutely feel 20 years younger when you swim in that mountain ⛰️ pool my friend indeed
I’m trying to figure out logistics on this blue mountain situation. Where to stay, how to get there. The best trail to hike etc etc. i like to be semi prepared as i am not renting a car here in Jamaica, it has its challenges but i will figure it out. it’s something that is most defiantly on the list though thank you for this suggestion 👌🏽

Bro you’re going to have a blast. Just be confident when speaking to the camera. Look directly into the camera lense so it makes the viewer feel connected. Get outside of your comfort zone. Record everything and make sure you talk to locals. You are going to have a blast !!

Another great place to go in Jamaica is Pelican Bar - the bar in the middle of the sea.
Okay i will have to check this place out thank you 👌🏽
Yes there now a large Population of deers now in Jamaica, they have hunting season for the deers. They breed very fast
I was shocked when i heard that haha
My Grandmother lived further up. The place was called John’s Hall close to Windsor. My grandmother said that there was a huge flood and washed away a lot of people and they were washed into a cave located by Nassie Davis.
She said that there is a cave beneath the water and the riva mummahs live there and will take away troublesome kids. Lol.
I miss home 😢
She must have told u this growing up lol
@@PoJoTheBackPacker yes as a deterrent not to leave the yard to go to the river.
Po I'm glad you got the authentic experience from a beautiful Jamaican family. He was right we do experience dry Saharan dust from time to time which causes the atmosphere to be hot, humid and poor visibility (hazy). It's cause by the trade winds bringing the dust from the western coast of Africa to the Caribbean, filling our atmosphere with high concentrations of Saharan dust.
That’s crazy it travels that far haha thank you for sharing this 👌🏽
Rivers are very dangerous not necessarily because of depth but cause of the rapids that create different currents and suction pools that pulls you under with great force
Ahhh okay i actually didn’t know this. I saw some rapids up the river but idn they didn’t look too crazy but i guess you never know 👌🏽
Backpack keep being honest. Please don’t change thank you

I see you are eating well

I thought this was a day trip..I knew you wouldn't leave yet.
I like to stay in places for about 2-3 days bc at a time sometimes 4 days
Always makes for a good time

NOT Rio Grand Po Jo, it's Rio Grande. It's a Spanish name from our Spanish heritage. There are many other places and rivers with Spanish names in Jamaica, eg. Santa Cruz, Rio Cobre, Rio Minho, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Spanish Town (which jamaicans sometimes refer to as Spain Town), St Jago etc. Jamaica was 1st colonized by the Spanish, and under Spanish rule with Spanish slaves masters at first. Then the British came and ran the Spaniards out because of the "brown gold" that the Spaniards had, which was the sugar cane. Jamaica was then colonized again for the 2nd time by the British. The British however, kept the names of many places and rivers named by the Spanish.
Very interesting history i did not know any of this!
Thank you for sharing 👌🏽

Same heard of beer never Pepsi haha but it was delicious
@@PoJoTheBackPackerso curious. Might have to try it at home. Wont be as good as what u had but I wanna try
A 24 hour challenge wouldn't be bad seen as they don't have any poisonous snakes or dangerous animals on the island. Nothing to fear.
Come to St. Elizabeth bro
What’s special about st Elizabeth ?
Its the bread basket of our country, plus we have some of the best rivers on the island. Its more country than Portland and St. Ann but the hospitality from the locals are second to none. There's a cool spot called Lovers Leap, you can Google it to see the backstory behind the name.
