Today I took a short walk from my Air B n B and decided to check out Boston Beach. In my personal opinion this has got to be Jamaica’s BEST beach but i am probably saying that because i felt like i had it all to myself. After grabbing a bite to eat and taking a route taxi i then ended up at Winifred beach. This beach was most definitely nice but for me Boston beach takes the cake. Later on in the day i headed into town to get a better look after arriving the night before and i was surprised at how small the town was. None the less everyone was super friendly and they answered any questions i had. I recommend getting off the path a little bit and checking out the smaller towns in Jamaica they have so much history inside of them! Would you come to port Antonio?

Most of those houses that seem empty is mostly owned by jamaicans who have lived abroad for yrs and built their homes in jamaica....then they will visit frequently until they retire and return permanently...some are actually owned by non jamaicans who actually live abroad also...

Jamaicans own most of our convenience stores. Not all of out grocery stores are owned by foreigners. Jamaicans also own gas stations, private hospitals, pharmacies, banks and all kinds of businesses.

Portland is very lush and green. Some of the ultra rich people in Jamaica live in Portland. I also understand that many celebrities from all over the world own properties there, people like Beyonce and many other celebrities. I also understand that when Prime Ministers and other world officials visit that is where they go. I have plenty of friends from Portland and it is the adjoining parish to St. Thomas where I am from which is also a beautiful and historic parish. To be honest, all of Jamaica is really really beautiful and there are majestically beautiful mansions owned by Jamaicans all over Jamaica. I laugh really hard when I see some UA-camrs go into the very few ghettos in Kingston and portray Jamaica as a poor country; Jamaica is a country with mostly middle class people.

Portland is the home of authentic jerk dishes. Even Martha Stewart went to Portland and featured jerk foods on her Chanel, and talked about how delicious the jerk sausage was. I just love the jerk sausages and roasted breadfruit.

I’m not Jamaican. But your really close to bath, Saint Thomas. Which is one of the places I love to go when I’m there. They have an mineral bath fountain. There are women there who will give you a nice hot water healing massage. Obviously you have to pay. But it helped me so so much but yes Kingston definitely 💯 ❤ keep doing what your doing. Some people wear clothes because, Jamaica is actually a very conservative modest Christian nation. I'm sure you've notice, we also display little affection in public. Many of those large houses are owned by wealthy Kingstonians. Most don't rent their homes, it's the family escape home. It's like the Hamptons for wealthy New Yorkers.

Every part of Jamaica has lots of giant mansions that are empty cause the owners live abroad. Many of them plan to retire in those houses.
We also have a lot of half -finished homes cause people build their houses slowly because they pay cash and don't use mortgages.

    • @mdl9096

@PoJoTheBackPacker Don't listen to the political 'talking points' please. There are hundreds of beaches over the 14 parishes in Jamaica which are FREE for EVERYONE. However, there are a few hotels/resorts that will charge a few dollars for the use of the facilities such as umbrellas, chairs, washrooms, showers, cleaning of the beaches, and lifeguard services. Most of the free beaches are not cleaned and have the facilities like those that are aligned with the hotels and resorts in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, etc. I think there might be between 8-10 so called 'private' beaches on the north coast where those fees are charged. Jamaicans are free to use every single beach along the Seven Mile stretch of beach in Negril and other cities. There are approximately three free beaches in Montego Bay including the Harmony Park Beach, and several in the different parishes. The government is now looking at building out beach parks in every parish in the island akin to the Harmony Beach Park. It is not something recent that a small fee is paid to access a beach in order to use the facilities of the hotel/resort. As a small developing nation it was hard for the successive governments to build a Harmony Beach Park in every parish, but with the economic development happening at the moment, it has become a priority for this present government to maintain more free beaches for the populace. Personally, I would prefer to pay a small fee and have a lifeguard available and sanitary conveniences.
