Welcome everyone to beautiful KINGSTON, JAMAICA! I had dreams of coming here but never thought i would complete it off my bucket list so soon. From loud dancehall music to the smell of jerk in the air down to the busy hustle and bustle this right here is “the real Jamaica”. Kingston for me was very interesting as there is so much history around the entire city. I had the pleasure of meeting up with another UA-camr known as @blessupjess and she helped guide me through the busy streets of Kingston. We have a pretty eventful day and i was grateful she took the time out to show me around since she has been in Jamaica for three months. From the busy markets downtown all the way to Devon house in uptown, come with me on a full day exploring the capital city of Jamaica!

Big Up Bless Jess. She’s really immersed herself in Jamaican culture. I’ve been following her for a while on her channel. She’s completely at home in Jamaica
Yea she’s really nice and helped me around the city i like her channel 👌🏽
Jo this is such an amazing vlog once again. I feel very privileged to have shared the experience with you! 🥹 You did such an amazing job capturing Kingston in all of its essence, both downtown and uptown! Loving your vlogs and can’t wait to link up with you again in the future!
Bless up Jess (did you see what I did there? 😊, I'll be here all week ... no, no, hold your applause and ovation) 😂. I Crack myself up!
But seriously, thanks for showing the world that all that crap and "it's not safe" is just rubbish!
Jah guide!
I appreciate you i had fun exploring Kingston with you, can’t wait to link up again 👌🏽
Bless up jess hurry back real soon we miss your vlogs
Bless up Jess big up urself 👊🏿
Come back and get your residency in the island!
Kingston full a vibes!!!
100% 👌🏽
That bun is an everyday thing. It is usually eaten with cheese. Cut it down the middle, insert the cheese to make a sandwich, now its called bun and cheese. Jamaicans hv for lunch or a snack to hold u until u get something more filling. Also, it's 1 of the most favoured thing many children have for lunch at school, washed down with a pepsi, bigga or a cran wata. HOWEVER, Easter bun has tuns of dried fruits(eg.raisins, cherry, etc.) in it. It's is a little sweeter, taste a tiny bit different from spice bun and usually a loaf as big as a loaf of bread. It is made/ produced & sold only during the Easter season, also eaten with cheese or fried fish during that time.
Ahh okay i like the spice bun I’ll be sure to have the cheese
Yeah, spice bun is the watered down version of the Bun with raisins and spices and is purposely made with less calories and less bells and whistles.
Don’t toast the spice bun…lol Eat it with some a slice of Jamaican cheese and a glass of Serge Island milk😂
Copy that!
Yes bun is waaay better with cheese and you can get bun with raisins but there are a bit bigger
@@PoJoTheBackPacker lol it's not a Jamaican bagel. I have toasted bun before with butter for breakfast on my stove top grill but that is heresy for most Jamaicans.
@@apd7698I used to toast school bulla, I didn’t like the taste and that was the only way I would eat it.
@@ashantijordane1862 lol I'll have to try that one because I hate the taste too😂
I always admire your authenticity and the level of respect you show to everybody. Great video, you and your fellow vlogger make a good team she did a great job as well.
I try to respect everyone i come across it’s the right thing to do. Thank you for watching the video 👌🏽
Ambassador blessupjess 🙏🏾
😂
Jo, you're are now a certified Jamaican.❤❤❤
😂 idn about all that
For patties you stay clear of Mother’s. You either get tastee, juici or if you wanna go overboard you go to the Devon House bakery they’re pretty expensive compared to the others
I will try tastee next lol
Whats wrong with mother's ?
Why no mothers?
@@PoJoTheBackPackerDevon house patties the best ever!! Thank me later!
@@NUBIANQUEENSTAR Devon house ice cream sells patties too?
I love Kingston! It is a very underrated city! Also go to the Cafe Blue in Manor Park. The best neighborhoods in Jamaica are near there. Places like Norbrook and Cherry Gardens are nearby.
This interest me. I’m going to check this place out
Welcome to my beautiful Island Jamaica 🇯🇲 😍 Jo! I'm born Jamaican but living in NYC,🇺🇸...Glad you're having a great exploration of Jamaica 🇯🇲 the land we all 💘 love. My favorite ice cream from Devon House was the rum and raisen flavor
Seems to be everyone favorite
Bless Up Jess is AMAZING! Thanks Jess for showing him around!😊
She’s a really nice gyal 👌🏽
You are in the heart of Jamaica Dude! Madness! You are near Half way Tree and not far from the Harbour! You have to go to Port Royal the original Capital which sunk! It’s true the heart of 🇯🇲 Jamaica is Kingston so much culture! It’s were everything happens!
Yea it’s crazy how much history is here i had no idea
Bless up jess and po' jo mad respect for you both one love ❤️ guy's
Aye appreciate the support my friend 👌🏽
Jess is absolutely fabulous and so knowledgeable of Kingston
Yes she is 👌🏽
Spice Bun is really a snack. Bun with Cheese. They eat it much at Easter time just like Americans eat Turkey Thanksgiving but turkey can be cooked and eaten anytime. Try the Cornmeal Porridge I love it. Wow! They eat the Cornmeal in DR too. Dominica Republic.
I’ve never had this cornmeal porridge i will defiantly try it
Those two on the sound system are always there I’ve seen them once! Madness
Yea they were bumping !
You both make a good backpacker team
Thank you very much for this kind comment 👌🏽
I do not do this often, but I’m recommending that you try the soursop. Soursop is a superfood that rich in many nutrients including antioxidants. It does have an acquired taste so I’d start with the juice. 😉
I will be sure to try this 👌🏽
That veggie burger sounded boooomb man. I’m huge fan of veggie burgers. Chick peas with some black beans makes a great combo for them. Ur reaction makes me even more curious to how that burger tasted
Honestly man everything was 100% fresh it tasted like pure health idn how else to describe it… each of the sauces also tasted extremely well and i hate sauce on my food lol. I felt like a had a hint of wasabi but im not sure lol you can look this place up and see other people eat this burger they give it a better review lol
Veggie burgers can be bomb especially by Rastas. My spot the burgers were partly their recipe. I can imagine how bomb it was for sure. But the buns they used. Breadfruit. Very curious. And I do know u r not fan of sauces :)))) but Jamaicans use some great flavors in their food for sure
Supporting the local markets 👍🏽
Just something small 👌🏽
I see why Jamaicans feel so at home in Accra, Ghana ... the looks, sounds and vibes are very similar! Wow
I was told the same thing
Thats because Jamaican culture is heavily influence by Ghanaian culture especially the Akan… from slavery days….. and Jamaicans have a lot of Ghanaian dna… a lot of the Jamaican dialect is from Ghana Nigeria and Congo …..
@@tahliah6691 Trust me, I was aware of the history and other connections. But the sights and sounds...wow, uncanny!
Love the Jamaica and Caribbean peoples! One Love!
PSA Please stop fooling ourselves my fellow Africans, us and Caribbean massive we ain’t the same AT ALL and yes I’ve travelled North America
@user-rz2ce2bc1x Please break it down for me.
Plus, don't think anyone ever said "the same", at least I didn't. I simply pointed out how certain things in Kingston reminded me of Accra, Ghana.
Anyway, please explain what you mean, kind Soul.
LOVE your channel!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you for the support 👌🏽
happy you made a friend. it's called bun and cheese so you need a slice of cheese in between the bun and have a drink with it. Halfway Tree as the name suggests is "Halfway" between uptown and downtown. As someone who spent Summers in Miami I know it would be hard to compare middle class in Jamaica and America it's two different standards of living, however the wealthy communities of St. Andrew are on par with any wealthy area in the world. The contrast between the rich and poor in Jamaica becomes more obvious the further North of Halfway-Tree you go, that's where i grew up.
Yes the contrast is pretty wild to me
@@PoJoTheBackPacker some of the wealthiest areas are Temple Mead-Jacks Hill, Beverly Hills, Millsborough, Cherry Gardens, Chancery Hill, Red Hills.
@@apd7698 you think these areas have parks or i am able to walk around these areas or will people fuss?
@@PoJoTheBackPackeryou’re good youtubers do it all the time just be cool bro u straight 👍🏾
@@PoJoTheBackPacker just hire a reasonable taximan that you trust or friend and he/she will drive you there. Since most of these communities are in the hills you can't just walk there. When you get there you can come out and walk around a bit, record the houses , view the capital city from various look out points other UA-camrs have done it. if you have drone you can fly it don't be too obvious though.
So glad to see you meet up with Jess she's one of my faves to watch since she started ❤
She’s a gem 👌🏽
Awesome !!
Great PoJo, Kingston have fun!

Yea the ice cream was good

Im in Jamaica now. Wll be taking back a lot of sour sop to Canada. It is sooo expensive in Canada. Heading to Kinston today. Started my day with water, green tea and will drink some soursop before leaving out. I will leave the food until I get to Kinston. I will go to Devon house for patties, they are absolutely delicious.
Some people will say they don't see much vegan restaurant. Just remember Ital food made by Rastas is the original 'vegan". There are lots of ital food around.Rastas have been eating like this before the word vegan was invented. I will say to the owners of Ital restaurants DO NOT change the name of your restaurant to vegan. Just let people know Ital is the original 'vegan'.
This is good information thank you for this 👌🏽
@@PoJoTheBackPackervegan is a diet, ital is a way of life. Great vlog, homie. Enjoy your stay inna we country.

I knew it. I should have eaten before clicking on video 😅 two minutes in it’s making me hungry
😂😂
Hey PJ. Nice Video with you and Jess. Glad you were able to link up. Love the Market Scene with the guys selling 123 for $J.300 items. Sorry you didn't think much of the chicken patty. Not a fan either nor of the coco bread, It's far too many carbs. You don't have to eat the bread with the patty, separate is also acceptable. Island Grill is a good place to eat, where you can get a variety of Jamaican foods cooked fresh daily. Saw your Portland catch and cook video great catch. Next time ask the chef to debone the fish for you or just lift of the upper half of fish and take out the middle bone and eat the white meat. That style of fish is called brown stew fish not boiled fish. Also, while in Kingston check out the Waterfront downtown. Duke Street and Princess Street, etc., is another area downtown away from the Market that is very nice. Look at the area near the ROC hotel that will give you an idea. Stay blessed and enjoy your stay in KGN.
Thank you for this lots of good information i will be sure to check out these places
Never heard of George Steible thanks for the knowledge!
Thank you for watching 👌🏽
I went to that ice cream spot too. Think I got a patty in that same area too, and some fresh juice. Super Good!

Just come across your channel… 🤩Jamaica 🇯🇲 NICE…. Jamaica is so safe…Kingston is fine… foreign governments don’t like when tourist go off the beaten track and choose to explore real places and spend their hard earned money in real places…which is what more people are doing…they want you to go to places they approve of… which isn’t where people of colour are….I’m an off the beaten track person…. Love Jamaica 🇯🇲 bad… loved Mexico 🇲🇽 loved Cuba… want to do Costa Rico 🥳 and Panama 🇵🇦 the Caribbean spice islands …Kingston is fine…. Everywhere has its good and bad side including the USA….I feel safer in Jamaica 🇯🇲 than in the US….A MUST in life is to have a bucket list and aim to achieve it…. I even have a fruit bucket list I’m aiming to increase but I know I will never complete it because there’s sooo much fruit in this world to try….. love snake fruit 😍
I’ve never heard of snake fruit i will have to try this lol.. also yes i think people fail to realize where I’m from in the us someone gets violently hurt every single day for no reason. USA is actually just as dangerous as anywhere else in the world. Jamaica has been good to me so far 👌🏽
Hey Pomo looks like you are becoming a professional at this and Jamaica looks like it might be in my future for now it’s back to thialand for three months starting December 1

Big up PoJo. Hope you make it to Negril before you run out of funds. Place mad expensive. Nice video. 🇯🇲
LMFAO
I see some decent places in my budget. You think i should check out the blue hole there or is there a more local place you know of like a water fall or something ?
@@PoJoTheBackPacker Honestly I don’t know too much about the other waterfalls. I live in Miami and left Jamaica from I was young; when I go back I only go to Negril but I don’t venture out like you do. I stay between the Rockhouse and this other secret location on the 7 mile beach and just chill out there. I heard that there is this old hotel that looks like a castle on the West End of Negril that’s cheap not certain. Ask around.
@@PoJoTheBackPackerSpanish Bridge in St Mary where the locals have fun times jumping/swinging from the bridge into the river and it’s free! Since you were in Portland you should have checked out Reach Falls. Try Dunn’s River Falls Ochi Rios. Google for more falls, there are too many to mention. I’ve only just come across your channel on my feed, impressed I subscribed! Keep up the great work.

Yeh Pojo, spice bun and JA bun in generl is great! Eat it any time, but too much makes me fat. hahahahaha
Yea i can feel the weight now lol
@@PoJoTheBackPacker hahahaahh
After 2 days of being there I feel my weight going up! hahah
Good description to compare it with cinnamon-raising bread. Rasing bread is very nice toasted then butter in the middle. Yummy! Bun and cheese are mostly eaten during Easter. It is a symbol of Easter in Jamaica. However, the ones for easter are specially made. The homemade ones are the best. In London here, hot crust buns are used as a symbol for easter. So, obviously, buns are a symbol of easter. Comments from London!!
Big ups to the UK yea 🫡
Growing up in Jamaica I had bun and cheese for lunch that was 1970s
I will have the cheese next time 👌🏽

😂😂😂😂😂 Jamaica market is a vibe
It really is
When i lived in jamaica in the 80s that street where ibos restaurant is located...orange street ...was such a busy bustling businrss area with all those buildings buzzing with different type of businesses.....in the 90s a lot of the entrepeneurs all over downtown got scared due to violence that they either relocated to the uptown area or went out of business...its actually on its way back now ...theres been a revival of sorts all over downtown because of the reduction in violence ...it looks much better than it looked in the early to mid 2000s
It was busy now so i could imagine back then 👌🏽
The spice bun goes well with cheese trust
Yes i will try this next time 👌🏽
The rastas offer the best food for vegetarians. Its called Ital food all natural. When you're downtown you should go down to the harbour n see the murals on the walls there. There are restaurants there too.
