    Jamaica is the only slave country that never forget their roots in Africa. As a matter of fact, Marcus Garvey, the Rastas and singers like Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, and many others kept Africa alive in our minds. Jamaicans are deeply connected to their African roots. Black history is plagued with destruction, yet here we stand. Our forefathers and mothers made it. Let’s unite and stand as one African. Thanks Mi General Wode Maya fi showcasing mi likkle Island to the world in di most positive light. One love mi breddah.

    Wodemaya what is amazing is not that you've helped others fall in love with Jamaica but you have reenergized a deeper sense of love amongst Jamaicans for Jamaica. Especially those of us living here. Sometimes we take our island for granted as we grapple with different socioeconomic and political challenges. Thanks for reminding us of our unlimited beauty...it's people and it's land!

    God bless Wode Maya. It is so good to have black people telling our own stories. I have seen many documentaries about Jamaica done by Americans and Europeans and none has ever capture the real heart of Jamaica like Maya is doing with his Jamaica series. Honestly I feel exposed, in the sense that the real Jamaica is been revealed because normally the focus is on crime, the beaches and the ghettos; so many people don't know the true Jamaica. Many times we would hear narratives about Jamaica and we ask/wonder which Jamaica they talking about and hiss our teeth like our Nigerian ancestors, shake our heads and move on. Well done Maya. I am loving the series.

    Mandela Park was named for Mandela after he came here back in the 90s after his release from prison to say thank you to Michael Manley and Jamaica/Jamaicans support against apartheid. It is why the ANC flag has JAMAICAN colours. Also Jamaica imposed sanctions on apartheid era South Africa during the 1950s under the Peoples' National Party leader Chief Minister Norman Manley while still a British colony. The party voted and impressed upon their party's govt to act. And they DID.

    • @TyroneBlackman7

      @TyroneBlackman7 The ANC flag like that of Ghana is influenced by Pan-Africanism through Marcus Garvey's movement. The ANC evolved out of a branch of Garvey's UNIA.. The same influence in part is what led to Dudley Thompson successfully defending Homo Kenyatta from colonial imprisonment

    • @SalmAndrew
      @SalmAndrew Місяць тому +1

      @@TyroneBlackman7The South African flag has part of Jamaican flag. The ANC selected that to acknowledge Jamaica's role in fighting against Apartheid. Jamaica was the first country to ban sports, and travel to Apartheid South African and second only to India in the world to have voted against South Africa in the UN to institute economic ban. Apartheid was officially enacted in 1948 Jamaica was fighting against white imperialism way before apartheid was enacted in South Africa... It's why the park in Half Way Tree Jamaica is named the Nelson Mandela Park in honor of Jamaica's role in fighting for the release of Mandela and the Liberation of South Africa. Jamaica was actually one of the first place Mandela visited when he was free.... Jamaica's history of standing with our colonized brothers in Angola is documented when we allowed Cuban planes carrying weapons to gather supplies for Angola rebels who won their independence the same was done for Zimbabwe all the while being threatened by the US. Jamaica housed and hid Simon Bolivar the liberator of all of Central and South America hence a museum was built by the Venezuela people in Kingston to celebrate Jamaica role in protecting Bolivar and his fight against Spanish and Portuguese imperialism. The Same can be said for the Haitian Revolution the first of its kind that saw the creation of a black Republic. One of the main founder of the Haitian revolution was a Jamaican slave named Duty Boukman who was shipped to Haiti because he was a threat in Jamaica. Marcus Garvey was the reason Martin Luther was inspired with the civil rights movement when his parents took him to Garvey's black Empowerment tour of the US that push the message of freedom and equality for all... Garvey's message was no less poignant than in Africa with Angola, Zimbabwe, South Africa and other Central African countries. Garvey messages live on through Rastafarianism and Reggae Music

    As an African born and raised in Africa ( Zimbabwe). l always say JAMAICAN MUSICIANS are more loyal to Africa than African MUSICIANS based in Africa.... Bob Marley his entire life was centred on Africa...The same for Dennis Brown...Garnet Silk...Sizzla etc. imagine if Jamaica and Africa have bilateral trade - economically, socially and etc
    Africa as a continent we owe a lot Jamaica and it's people.

      Jankunu is a Jamaican tradition that spread throughout the Caribbean. Bahamas tried to claim it but after investigation was done, Jamaica Jankunu holds historical elements, originality and was longer documented. Not to mention, Jamaica was the port of enslaved African coming from Africa that was sent all over the Caribbean.
