    Your videos are great !
I'm retired from a truck repair shop and relearning combination engines repair ( they say real trucks don't have spark plugs ) ? But engine's do ! Not motors ! Get a 1/4 round rod and cut a slot in the center to slide sandpaper in turn it around the rod the same direction of your drill ! Then you'll have a great cleaning tool .

maybe you could make a copper reusable head gasket use old one for template , you then when it's stripped next time, heat to cherry red and then into cold water and reuse it, 1970's yamaha rd 250cc and 400cc used them,im loving yer channel im in England, im working on a free ride on countax 400 v twin engine your info is helping me no end, 👊✌️

Jeff: I have used the copper spray on head gaskets in my shop for over 20 years with never an issue. Especially on the newer over head valve briggs engines that are famous to blow head gaskets due to bad head bolt design where the bolts are two far apart near the valves. Changed many of these with the copper spray and not one blew again. Thanks for the video.

The Briggs workshop manual shows you how to make brush holders using an old recoil spring. It takes seconds to put the starter back together. Still using the ones I made 25 yrs ago.

FOR THE BACK BOLT ON THE STARTER YOU COULD USE AN EXTENSION

I see you have a “little” engine service, but if you were to grow it, even a wee bit, I would suggest a bench and vice.
    You’re welcome.

If you put the flywheel on first then line the grooves up and slide the flywheel key down in it is a lot easier.

I have the brother/sister to that engine on my old snowblower, only difference being, mine is horizontal shaft. Service manual for my engine calls for a 270430 head gasket. Might be something that will work.

Armature/brush assembly: use tape with another piece (of tape) making the brush cover area non-stick. That holds the brushes in place as the ends are still sticky. Once the armature is applying any pressure, you can still slide the tape out b/c the tape covering the brushes is non-sticky.

*** Update *** turns out NASA's assembly facility is just down the road from Jeff's and for reasons that they don't want to get into they need that engine for an upcoming mission, so Jeff said like anyone would " I'm just putting it back together for fun, it doesn't even have a new head gasket " that's alright they said, so at least we know it's gonna get used

You MIGHT be able to get by with "high temp" gasket paper. It is a bit darker than normal gasket paper. Made for higher temp than the regular kind.
Not sure if it will hold up, but say'in.

Watching this b/c I’m about to inherit one of these on a JD R72 mower. My “inheritance” looks almost new compared to this one, but good to know there are still viable parts.

It appears the donor of this 8hp B&S was the Toro rear engine riding (RER) mower that you removed the transmission in another utube video? If so that mower appeared to be a 1986 - 1989 Toro 8-32 model number 56145. According to partstree the head gasket for the 8hp B&S engine used on the Toro 8-32 for these years is B&S part number 270430 (Superseded to 272163S). Partstree prices this part at $6.71 and according to their site it is still available. Hope this helps you in the future.

Yes sir I have one too in a old blue ford rider but I keep it covered and start it up every 3/4 months just for the hell of it
Wife was really mad when I bought it new 😢😢😢 so I started it and asked her to go for a ride
      Still mad 😅😅😅

As a PhD chemist and familiar with the properties of both copper and aluminum, I am appalled at the statement you made about a copper gasket. If the gasket is put on properly and layered ( multiple thin layers) of copper, it would be perfectly fine if torqued properly. In building a gasket the importance is the crush thickness of the gasket and if properly done copper is just as acceptable as a composite gasket. The reason copper is not often used is strictly cost of material. Copper is a soft metal and as such deforms to meet the needs of the material in question. If you want to enhance the copper between the layers of copper 1 lock wire of steel is used in racing applications to enhance the seal and this wire does not have to be thick to work. Typical of today is multilayer metal gaskets used and that is often between steel (cast) and aluminum heads. Both of those metals expand and contract differently and typically the metal layer gasket lasts for multiple decades if otherwise the engine is properly maintained. Since this is the case with most small air cooled engines today, there is no technical reason to dismiss copper as a gasket material. It is more the experience of the builder much more than choice of material in this case. If you have not worked with it I would in part expect your answer should be that the OEM gaskets when you can get them work quite well. If you cannot get them, then you need to look to fabrication and use of other materials especially if you can no longer get the part. I reiterate, a copper gasket properly cut and layered to match the OEM requirements is just as good as any other material custom designed for the application in question where high pressures are required to be resisted. And in the case of a head gasket sealing the head to the block is just one of those where copper is appropriate. Properly done a copper gasket far exceeds the required sealing strength to resist the pressures of a high compression diesel, much less than any pressure ever seen in any gasoline engine.
