How to Clean a Vespa Engine

  • Simple Green, soapy water, a brush, and a hose will get it done!
    Leave the Simple Green and soapy water on for 5-10 minutes to let it work into the grime, then brush it down and spray it all off. This particular engine wasn't in really bad shape but sometimes we get engines in here that look like the forest floor and this trick brings them right back to shining.

    generally the bottom of the vespa gets dirt and water in when you ride. disconnect the battery first before washing to prevent any damage to the electronics or wire connections. wash and let it dry before connecting back the battery. a yearly cleaning maintenance should be good. thanks for the video!

      Should be fine so long as you don’t have a bunch of exposed wiring and your connections are all tight. Check before spraying.

    Hello, vespa gts 250 2013 models. If I pour water into the engine like this, will it damage the wires, spark plugs or other parts? You do it and there is no problem.

      All good! If you have a hole in your gas cap for venting then definitely cover that with some tape but aside from that should be good as long as you’re not firing right into an open electrical connection.

      @@VespaPortland do the 50cc Sprint gas caps have a vent? I remember you saying on another video in response to my comment that the 50’s don’t use a charcoal canister like the 150’s.. If there’s no charcoal can, I’m wondering how the gas tank gets vented. Do you know about the laws regarding that by any chance? I have been googling to no avail. All motorcycles in CA have EVAP controls and charcoal canisters which can cause rough start issues in hot weather. I had an R6 and an R3 that both suffered from that. Is the 50cc small enough that it is exempt from that requirement? Would be a huge plus if so.

    • @VespaPortland
      @VespaPortland  2 роки тому

      Gas cap doesn’t vent and no can. There’s a separate hose off the gas tank with a filter on the end for venting. Not sure about the laws but wouldn’t be surprised if an engine displacement of that size is small enough to fly under the radar.

      Should be fine so long as everyone waits until it’s not soaking wet to start the scooter.

    How long after rinsing it can you start it up?

    • @VespaPortland
      @VespaPortland  2 роки тому

      Probably immediately but generally we let them sit for awhile afterward because this is the last step before we call our customers to let them know their scooter is ready to be picked up. "Awhile" could be anything from 10 minutes to a full day, depending on when they come get their scooter.

      Sure! That should be fine. Or you can go fancy with car wash soap.

    • @VespaPortland

      As we say in the video, don't blast water directly into electrical connections. But water gets into those compartments via the bottom anyway via rain and wet streets.
