@christophertrimble9965 I know what you mean, it's never ending with my tackle addiction too lol. I buy bait just to keep from looking through what I've already got, knowing i already have it.Oh well, it could be worse right? 🤣
This is something i've experienced too even if i'm adapting all of this information on fishing norhern pike and perch since we don't have bass here at all. The greatest info has been on chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and skirted jigs whether them being pitching, flipping, swimming etc. considering trailers and use cases.
Hey guys like everyone is saying you guys are the hands down best teachers in the fishing industry. I absolutely love the 1 hr video’s. The combo of demonstration and talking is unbelievable. Thanks for all you guys do. God bless and we’ll see ya soon!!!
I was definitely favoring too slow/gentle most of the season. I.e. fishing more winter style but early with a jerkbait. Surprised however I did not see the LC pointer on your list. I had some amazing experiences in TN with pointers!
I went after the jerkbait video they made about a month ago, I did exactly what Matt said, I went a bought a 6’ 10’ Expride B and a Aldaberan MGL HG Along with all the vision 110’s he linked in the description and all the hook upgrades. I absolutely LOVE this new technique and having it in my arsenal! I’m ALL in on jerkbaiting now!!! I have been WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO EVER SINCE HE ANNOUNCED IT WAS COMING! IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Thats what Matt did to me also i bought a 6ft10 baitcaster and a few jb. First i had 5, then 10, soon i had 20......Now i got about 100 jb. And i changed the bc for a spinrod at the same length (Destroyer P5 Landsat). Another recommend jb is DUO REALIS 100(D)/110/120 im sure you like them as well 😊
I watched one of your jerk bait videos 3 years ago in the fall. Bought a dedicated rod and some vision 110’s and hit the lake. It quickly became one of my favorite ways to fish in the fall. Seriously addicting.
Great video Matt. Just started to fish with jerkbaits. Appreciate the attention to detail. Have heard great things about the Rapala mavrik. Will be getting a Megabass vision.
I am a seasoned angler and I really appreciate the in depth videos ..I lost a 7-8lb bass in Ky and a plus 6 this year ..cedar/cumberland off using mega bass via plus 1s..I first off thing a good jerkbait rod or 2 is vital..also like mentioned the bass bump a lot and hook themselves ..I went down to spin casters some /smaller 6”8-6”10 mediums designed for jerkbaits and I can’t blame the stock hooks as much as not Changing hooks.. vital!! Also don’t horse em is another key ..finesse hooks and sticky ..the coating and these details in the hooks really help. Thanks Matt , my fav still for actual detail on things
This is one of the best videos you guys made, from actually showing how to cast/retrieve on the water, to explaining the different baits in depth and simplifying for us. Thank you Matt, really love watching your videos!
Without a doubt one of the best (if not THE best) videos you have ever produced. Excellent, detailed instructions. Would love to see this same type detailed instruction and demonstration on all types of lures/techniques. Thank you.
Wow thank for this information I never use my jerk baits because I couldn't fish it. Now I have the knowledge to use the 20 different jerk baits that I have. Matt, you and Tim are the best. I really can't thank you enough I went from getting lucky sometimes to catching fish on every trip out.
Im so grateful for all the knowledge that tactical bassin shares. I have ben fishin my entire life, and im learnig so much every time I watch your videos. ❤😊
Great video. For me one glaring miss is no discussion on spinning gear, and spinning line for jerkbaiting! In my experience, spinning gear, with all of the jerkbaits mentioned is very effective.
I use spinning gear as well. A good reel with a solid, and consistent drag will work all day. When that drag is set right you can easily play fish effectively.
I’m at the beginning of my Jerkbait journey and this the best video I’ve seen! This video gave me the best start and I’ve advanced very quickly and I’m loving it! TB really gives you alot of information but break it down so it’s easy to comprehend and understand! The biggest thing I take away is the confidence to try this stuff and most of all is the fun we have learning and seeing this stuff work! ❤
Thank you Matt, for the several videos lately, these teaching videos are indispensable. I'm learning so much and trying to retain everything said. I haven't gotten the deep diving information from any channel, that matches what you bring to the table. Everything from how to work, rod selection and why, line selection and why, colors and sizes and why. All the "and why" is the extra boost I need to understand, so I can be more prepared under conditions.
Thank you Matt!! For real I’ve fished my whole life mostly trout and the only one I’ve done passionately has been salmon which I’ve learned everything the hard way so for you and Tim to devote your brand to teaching people the way is commendable bro. Thanks so much TB slays !!!!
Matt, I really appreciate your knowledge and the willingness to teach us. I'm definitely going to break out the jerkbaits I've had in the box. Never caught anything on jerkbait, but now I know I will now just from this video. Much appreciated, thank you...
Man, the Shimano Expride 6' 10" medium with an aldebaran on it is by far my favorite jerkbait combo. Keep these deep dives into the different techniques coming.
Love you guys and LOVE these seminars y’all put together. I watched the jerkbait video you put out this time last year and it got me started down the wormhole, now there is no turning back 😂 it’s my favorite method to fish. You guys have opened up so many methods and tactics to fishing that I never utilized and I am forever grateful! Keep it coming!
Matt, in your role at Tactical Bassin you are walking right in your giftedness! You are not just one of the best bass anglers in the world but you’re ability to effectively break down complex topics is outstanding and I want to thank you for sharing your expertise with all of us. I do have one question, however: How is it possible that not even one Lucky Craft jerkbait made your list?
Thank you so much John! And that's a great question. Especially given the important role they've played for us historically. To this day my biggest jerkbait fish ever (a 12 lber) came on a pointer 100. Put simply, a TON of new baits have come to market and they're not messing around. The 100+1 Jr has completely eliminated a Staysee from my lineup... the same can be said for this new Zumverno vs the smaller pointers and flash pointers. Fish are constantly adapting and so are the lures. This new crop of baits is worth taking a look at if you haven't already.
You guys are amazing, truly. To take the time and explain every little detail and to see the passion you two have for this sport, is amazing! Thank you for the best information out there!
great informative video. really learned a lot from this one as jerkbait fishing is not one of my strong suits. I really appreciate the how you can hear the passion in matt's voice when teaching about fishing.
I've been riding a jerkbait bite in my fishery for a month now, stacked with the gear you guys recommend but actually catching a lot on a Lucky Craft slender pointer MR too. I bought my Expride on your recommendation, great rod I can count on to do a lot of things. I've doubled my bass over last year, the info you guys provide is the real deal, thanks again!
Great vid! Bomber 24A is deadly! Gold color and its side is a Smallie magnet🏆🎣 The Megabass has a lot of durability issues with the bills breaking and have had some bodies crack. A nice sneaky one has been the Smithwick Elite 8 and the Super Rogue flat out catches them!
Hands down the best jerkbait video I've ever seen. I'm a huge fan of his now, and will be combing his back catalog. I've never understood hook-changing on any bait (unless the original hooks break). So, I'll look forward to learning his take on that. I live in central Florida, so in our shallow water, vegetation-ridden lakes, I don't know how much this will apply. But, it's incredibly intriguing. I grew up in the Midwest, and never threw a jerkbait....ever. Then the boom hit after I moved to Florida, and now there's nowhere to really fish them! What an amazing video. It's just a shame that this sport has turned into an "elite" sport. $25-$25 per bait is beyond astonishing. And, that's saying nothing of the electronics being used (and their cost) today. That part of the industry is incredibly disheartening. But, I digress... thank you for sharing.
Another banger seminar. Just unreal how helpful these are. Not sure I’ve caught a bass over the past three years without drawing on something I’ve learned from TB. Thank you guys for everything you do! Am I the only one who gets jacked up when Matt uses the phrase color theory?
You definitely helped with the cadence, thank you! I was definitely fishing it like a top water. I do love jerk bait rods, I pretty much just river smallmouth fish and they turn out to be the best all around rods for that.
Thanks, this is the video I needed. I was trying to figure out how to reel up my slack without getting the bait to move. I'm going to try this weekend. I'll practice my rip rip pause.
My best Smallie came on a Vision 110+1 and an Expride 6’10” M, thanks to you! Although the new model Expride is slightly different, it’s crazy the difference you can tell by using them a lot
I accidently got a size 6 treble for my V110 instead of size 5. Same exact hook. I have not got any good bites now because its floating too fast. He isn't lying.
"One more cast" lol. We were fishing here a couple weeks ago and my dad and my 8-year-old daughter were with me and it been a really slow day at this pond that was usually pretty good. And I had made that comment yeah probably one more and we'll just go. And then a couple casts after that my beautiful sweet little girl walks up to me and says "Dad, didn't you say one more cast about five casta ago?" Omg lol. Love the videos.
I took your advice on a middle of the road ish combo. Got a curado rod and a curado dc with 12 lb sniper fc. I used p line on it last year. Had good results but didn’t stay dedicated to the learning curve. The action on the rod is perfect though. Stellar rod for the money.
Matt, if you see this there are 2 brands you must try if you haven't, OSP and Raid. OSP has them from 73mm to 130mm and they're all legit. The Raid level minnow and level deep are also awesome.
Great video Matt. I absolutely love jerkbait fishing, next to spinnerbaits, it's my favorite. My personal go to JB rod is a 6.9 M Heimdall from sixgillfishing. It's a jerkbait specific rod, not as light as that expride, but the balance is perfect, and the action is exactly as you described. I run through tons of line when fishing a jerkbait, and to save money, I use 10 lbs Trilene sensation copoly....it's been an excellent set up for me. Keep up the good work.
Best advice on picking the best jerkbait lures. One lure that absolutely destroyed the lake near my home in utah was the boldshad rapala 110 maverick. Unbelievable
Another amazing video Matt!!! Love these extra long - down the rabbit hole videos. Again would like to see the underwater footage associated with the comments. Kudos!
Hey guys love the videos as always , as a northeast angler I don’t find myself throwing large jerkbaits neary as often as the smaller ones , that being said most of my jerkbaits are only worth throwing on spinning gear, I noticed you didn’t get to much into it besides naming some of the smaller baits you like which was of great help maybe cover some of the nuances & differences in how they’re fished &the differences in gear when throwing such a vast assortment of different sized baits
For what ever reason, the Jackall rerange 130 has it. I’ve been catching everything on them, from bass and pike, to even salmon and browns. I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Do not sleep on that 130 Rerange.
I watched your previous jerkbait videos bought the 6'10" expride and some vision 110s. Then saw this video went out yesterday and caught my first jerkbait largemouth 5.24lb on a matt shad 110 these deep dives are great thanks for putting out the great content 👍
So, I’m a sample size of one, but I would LOVE for you guys to do more on the water demos first and then dive into baits to use. I’m a tackle nerd/junkie so I’ll watch all of course lol.
We need the seminar on soft plastic jerk baits, the variance in hooks and weight, preferences in rod reel and line, also if you felt like dropping a few colors. Here on the tennessee River when the gizzard shad are getting busted I LOVE a 5in soft plastic jerk bait, or a ned rig 😅🤣
I’m surprised the Rapala Rip Stop did not make the cut ? As in a pool test I saw on UA-cam it was #1 for action on retrieve and the stop when jerking it.
Just came to say happy new year to you guys and thank you for the video content but especially for the tremendous detail in the descriptions with links to everything. Wishing you a 2024 full of lunkers! Tight lines.
This is the only fishing channel i watch and trust but the funny thing is i dont even bass fish, i only fish for stripers here in cali. Im sure the stripers are very similar to bass bc i’ve been out fishing my fishing buddies
The cadence demo was great! Would be awesome to see this with other techniques! Also, a good coated hook for the 110 Jr is the Ichikawa 84S Light Wire. Size 8 is good for an ultra slow sink, and I even go down to a size 10 for a slow float. You can fish the size 8 on standard gear, but for the size 10 I would go down to a more finesse setup
Have you weighed those hooks to be more exact? IE the slow float and slow sink will vary DRASTICALLY with water temp. Would love to know their weights if you have.
@@tacticalbassin my scale shows .28 grams for the size 8, and .20 grams for the size 10. I tested them specifically on the 110+1 Jr in about 55° water, all with size 2 Hyperwires
Hey Matt tons of great info. Appreciate how in depth you get. I have one big question. I've scoured the internet, spent hundreds of dollars on replacement hooks, even called Jackal direct to try to find replacement hooks that WEIGH THE SAME for the reranges. I hate to buy a new lure every time my hooks bend or break. Jackal told me they were custom Owner hooks and thats all they could tell me. I THINK they MIGHT be owner st35 or st36 and they get them coated which is what makes them custom. I spent so much time and money I'm about to give up trying. Figured if anybody knows the answer, it's YOU! If you or anyone else reading this knows any Jackal replacement hooks that weigh the same and don't foul on each other PLEASE let me know. THANKS. Stay safe and God Bless
I love your detailed content. This info helps me a lot, especially fishing shallow water from the bank. I'm definitely going to check out Owner's Rip'n Minnow.
Oh man! I love jerkbaits and your annual big dive breakdown of your jerkbait video's Matt! If I could just jerkbait and crank all day long and keep catching them this would be the ultimate way for me to catch'em. I will be saving up for the Diawa Samarai hidden fluoro Matt and thanks for getting back to me so quickly the other day as it shows you and Tim care. Hopefully there will be some black Friday sales for fluoro up here in Ontario, Canada. I now have 2 boxes of shallow and deep diving jerkbaits and I think 4 or 5 boxes of cranks from squarebills to deep divers that go down 20 feet! I went down the rabbit hole and just love it! HAHA Thanks again guys!
I've been using Daiwa Samurai floro for a while now, and for braid to leader, its one of the few I trust to use straight off of a filler spool No "leader" material needed. It's hands down the best floro I've ever used. Totally worth the extra cost. Btw, my absolute best smallmouth day with a jerkbait was on a Luck Craft NW Amigo in Pearl Ayu, 5/16 oz. Caught one 22in, one 20in, two 19in and one 18in. In my local river, that is an epic day, and no we do not have ayu baitfish. Something about that color was just fire that day.
Haha.. if you know the fishing drill “One cast” means multiple cast 😂 love the content and advices Matt & Tim! Y’all two been my teacher ever since I watched y’all videos 2-3 years ago.
Came across this video even though it's been a year. Great information thank you. You mentioned you had a spinning rod and reel that would work, which one would you recommend? Can't afford a bait caster just yet. Thank you again.

@tacticalbassin . Awsome Vid 👍. Just added a pile of Visions to my arsenal .

😂 Sorry!!!

Jerk it in spring, jerk it in fall , jerk it in winter, and sometimes summer. Give the jerk a try, you'll love it once you start catching them on it!
You should have ended it with once you start jerking you won't wanna stop 😂😂

Yes! Yes! Yes! Saving this to watch tonight!! already liked the video cause I know it's going to be good!
Ito Shiner is my WEAPON!!
Best advice on picking the best jerkbait lures. One lure that absolutely destroyed the lake near my home in utah was the boldshad rapala 110 maverick. Unbelievable
I totally have a “parasocial” relationship with you guys. This episode is spectacular. Thanks. So chill. So explanatory. Love you guys.
Love the long ones. Thank you.
Jerkbait is my favorite game in the land. It is on a rod and in my hand all 12 months of the year. Absolutely smoke the fish on them year-round
This comment is why we do it! Huge congrats!!!
Thanks for sharing your great information. Educational.
You sir are a legend
I’m surprised the Rapala Rip Stop did not make the cut ? As in a pool test I saw on UA-cam it was #1 for action on retrieve and the stop when jerking it.
It's always "1 last cast" next thing you know it's dark and you've missed dinner 😂
Just came to say happy new year to you guys and thank you for the video content but especially for the tremendous detail in the descriptions with links to everything. Wishing you a 2024 full of lunkers! Tight lines.
Thank you! Happy New Year!
Amazing video, as always! Thanks for everything you guys do!
Thank you!! We appreciate the support!
Hey, have you guys tried the Nishine Erie 95? If you haven't you should. I've had a ton of luck with it up shallow this summer.
Last winter I paused mine while getting a pinch of snuff for 20-30 sec and caught a 3-4lbr. I just saw the line jump. Cool experience.
Not many things are better than watching Matt catching fish on a jerkbait while teaching us how to do it!
Thanks!!! 🎣
Dude that first tutorial catch was awesome!!!
Ha! Thanks!!
No problem bud I’m definitely going out and using these techniques this week will let you know how it goes for sure
For the Expride 610 medium, what action (moderate, moderate fast, or fast) do you recommend? Thanks.
Thats so awesome! We're experiencing the same with the line and huge congrats on that epic day!
Haha.. if you know the fishing drill “One cast” means multiple cast 😂 love the content and advices Matt & Tim! Y’all two been my teacher ever since I watched y’all videos 2-3 years ago.
Came across this video even though it's been a year. Great information thank you. You mentioned you had a spinning rod and reel that would work, which one would you recommend? Can't afford a bait caster just yet. Thank you again.
What are your spinning combo options that you think are best
Following
also came to ask this same question :)
Great Video Matt!
