Can’t thank you enough for turning me on to Megabass 110’s. Thats about all I throw these days for jerkin. And its one of my favorite methods of catching fish. Thatnks again.
I’ll just drop a thanks here. On my mission to upgrade my equipment, I just got in from ICAST a Poison Adrena Rod. It’s kinda a leap of faith since I can’t look at one before I buy. All I can say is WOW. Thanks again for just providing accurate opinions on tackle and gear.

It has been a long time since I had the opportunity to go fishing and I miss it badly, but to keep the memory alive I airbrush lures as a hobby. I can't say that anything I have painted will catch a fish, but I sure have a lot of fun painting them. Lately I have been working on jerkbaits and I think you'd be blown away by all the colors in my collection now. My tackle box has more colors than a rainbow. Watching you catching fish sure makes me want to put some of these to use someday.
I got that MB OneTen/Aldebaran combo and gosh, that is so money! My buddies were watching while I caught 22 2-3lb bass in an hour and a half. It was an amazing day! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mike! I often sit and wonder where we'll go from here (on any topic), but the truth is we're constantly learning and adapting too, so it just keeps flowing.
BFS reels for jerkbaits have been an absolute game changer for me. Being able to throw small jerkbaits with ease has been incredible. Especially casting into the wind.
Found a nice Rapala jerk bait on sale, decided to pick it up. First time taking it out, got it hooked in the backside of my arm. Those VMC hooks don’t play 😅 Guess it’s time to give it another go! Thanks guys 🤝
You guys got me into BFS fishing.. I recently hit the jackpot and got a never used 22 Aldebaran for 200 dollars shipped to my door!! I have it on a 6’8 St Croix Bass X medium extra fast but waiting patiently to pair it up with a Shimano Expride. I also got my boy the Curado BFS XG… you guys weren’t kidding about that Diawa Samuri fluorocarbon.. I got in the 7lb and all I can say is… holy sh*t it’s by far the best I’ve ever felt and I am a big fan of the Seaguar fluorocarbon and thrown it for years! Currently waiting on a Karashi to come in the mail. I’m seriously impressed by the knowledge you guys bring to the table and share with us. A buddy and I are working on a custom topwater specific to bfs… we fish smallies here in SW Ohio and the prototypes we have… let’s just say the fish here (even in high pressure areas) act like they have never seen a lure. It could be a game changer. I’d love to send you guys a few of our prototypes and hear your thoughts.

Id never had any success on a jerkbait before. It was because I didn't have slack in my line. Got a couple 3lb Missouri River smallmouth tonight thanks to your tips in that regard. Many thanks! Love the channel!
Great description of watching the cat mouse game play out in front of you! One of my most memorable moments is catching a dink on a vision 110 just awesome to watch it happen. it’s also happening to me on a super fluke It’s truly unforgettable!!!
What is amazing to me is the fact that you don't hook yourself with the baits in your hands. Especially when you are talking and moving your hands. 😂 Great information and video about jerkbaits. It's one of my favorite techniques.
Nicely Done ~ I am wildly addicted to catching the local brown bass on jerkbaits - borders on fanatical. But the results speak for themselves. The endless ways the Angler input can illicit strikes is just the best. I am a big Megabass fan and do change out split rings, hooks and the line tie (prefer an Oval ring rather than round) Looking forward to the next jerkbait installment. Thanks.
The shimano world minnow and especially the zumverno have now basically replaced the vision 110 and vision 110 jr lures as my go-to-jerkbaits these days!
110+1 jr. in mat shad is by far one of my favorite jerkbaitss. I also really love the x-nanahan +1 and +2. Those are the perfect size if they're chasing little threadfin
That X-Nanahan is about like the Karashi to me. God that thing is the business! I fish a jb year round though, so when theyre chasing small bait, i crush em on the Nanahan. I fish it on the 110stick, with Aldebaren and 8 lb Seagar Invizex. Big bass, big Walleye and huge Crappie on it!
The water temp stuff seems like it shouldn’t effect the bait but it dose I call it the water density concept ie water gets colder it becomes more dense and the bait floats then with warm water like 75-80s and up the bait sinks
Currently running a 6th sense heater 6'9" medium mod with a curado 150mgl... love the setup, but my next jerkbait rod i wanna try that expride... straight up ive caught insanely good fish on that 6th sense rod and i gotta say im impressed
I am curious what spinning rod you use - I am looking to use a spinning rod for jerk baits yet I am having a had time finding out what spinning rods (power/length/action) would be good for this way of fishing - thank you in advance for any info. you can provide
Thanks Matt - my lake had fish chasing in the AM close to the top and on top. Tried a whopper plopper and a jerk bait, but I think I went too big compared to the bait the bass were feeding on. My mission is figuring out jerkbaits on my lake this fall.
The 53 sec in, when that bass came up kinda slow like it was gonna take it then turned and then darted right at it, I guess you could say perfect timing on the twitch, I wonder how many of them come up look at it and don't take it, but when then do they crush it
Love y’all videos on fishing. I absolutely love jerk bait fishing! I have problem with line fouling on the front hook! I can tie a loop knot w/o split ring, or tie to slip ring or using a snap. Do you have a recommendation? I usually tie a double improved clinch knot and 10-12 lbs test fluorocarbon. Thanks Gregg
I notice the color choices in the description vary from video to video. My guess is you probably have one in every color. The megabass colors are so good it's hard to choose. Personally I love TN shad, of course I live in TN. I'm really looking forward to a deep dive regarding colors, matte finishes, flash or holo finishes and when and where to deploy them.
Doesn’t really matter . You’re not moving the bait with the reel. Most guys use around a 7.5:1 . But a slower reel could help you to not reel in to much slack and move the bait with your reel .
@@timg185 yup all the pros will tell you a fast reel 7.5-8.1 but I’ve never had a problem with my 6.5s. Most of the time those light wire hooks like the Megabass hook. The fish hook themselves they are so sharp. All you need is slight tention and they are on. Paired with a rod that loads nice. They won’t get off. Hope that helps! 🎣
The flash boost is the secondary action dead sticking has always needed. Lol! Because the primary action in dead sticking has always been the absence of action. 🤯
Hey. I have exactly the same lures as you. Megabass is my favorite. But i fish in Switzerland. And they work good. We have smaller bass then you. Some Up to 50 cm / 25 inch big. Not many left. I used to live in Florida. In this time I bought those lures for the next time. But swiss fishes like them too. I wish to come back to Florida for catch some snakehead’s 💪💪😎👍
great video matt, i love that megabass 110. do you ever take out the champion out anymore, i love both of your 210's but for now i am still fishing out of a 181
How does the Zodias 6'10" M compare to the Expride and Curado? I dont ever recall hearing the Zodias mentioned in the past probably since it's not too far behind the Expride price point.
If i could only pick 1 lure type to fish for the rest of my life, jerkbait is the answer. Btw, the St. Croix Legend Xtreme 6'8" MXF casting rod is jerkbait rod perfection
That Megabass Destroyer P5 OneTen Stick is my 🐐 jerkbait rod. I throw everything from x-Nanahan all the way up to 110+2 on it. I know you guys love the Aldebaran, but… try a Steez CT SV TW on that rod (if I remember right, Tim has one of these) with some 10# Tatsu. You’ll be amazed how far you can hurl a 1/4oz x-Nanahan. It is, in my opinion the 🐐 of boujee jerkbait rigs.
I really like my steez ct. try a bates hundo, it’s still cheaper than the steez bought from Japan and it hurls them too. It feels even more solid than the steez.
The gold standard of jerk baits has always been the smithwick rattling rouge. Orange belly black back and chrome belly and light blue. During the spawn I've had bass fighting over it all the way to boat. Even caught 2 at the same time once. Awesome bait!
I have bait fish about 3 to 4 inch by the dock, but then I head out and see tiny shad, about 2 to 3 inch jumping around. How do I attack, match the size I see right at that spot? Or just hook up and see what bites? Just wondering because I'm always happy to see my lake loaded but too many choices for me to decide
Excellent topic. My favorite. Thanks Matt! Hey can you PLEASE check out the e Daiwa Tatula XT line up. They’re like $99.99- and incredible. I feel like both spinning and casting are AMAZING $100 rods. Not many people know about them.
Do you always now use straight fluorocarbon on your BFS? Or do you go back to leader? I am needing a lesson on this. And I am sure others do also. It’s so hard to find an affordable rod that has guides that will accommodate the FG knot in aBFS.
I know I'm not Matt, but I fish a jerkbait year round in ultra clear water in the Ozarks. I use straight fluorocarbon for jerkbaits. That goes from BFS, to Kanatas on a Diablo Spec R, 110's on a Jerkbait special, or a 110 jr on a 110 stick. When your using a proper jb rod, your technique isn't improved with braid. Because of the clear water I use light line, so a little bit of give to me is a good thing. Anyhow, hope that helps. Maybe Matt will weigh in and say different .
Thanks for the video. I also LOVE jerkbait fishing. When I use nice baits they always get bit off by pike. It must be nice fishing in lakes where you don’t have to worry about your $25 bait disappearing😂.
Get a lure retriever. They're also very easy to make. You can convert a bomber slab style of spoon into a lure knocker. It just hammers against your snagged lure in the opposite direction until it frees the hook point(s).
@@gunadoo same problem to me but I have a solution….use a short leader of very thin Titan wire….almost no weight, doesn‘t affect the action of the bait and pike won‘t be able to cut. 4 inches of about 5-6 pound strength should prevent the most.
Are there any modifications so I could throw some of the shallow jerkbaits in 3-4ft of water? Maybe braid with a short leader? I primarily wade creeks with a lot of rock flats and the smallmouth are very active right now.
Use a floating jerkbait & get some Storm SuspendDOTS...experiment until u get the right depth....Bomber Long A in the 3 1/2" would be a great size for creeks...probably 1 or 2 DOTS added to it
I’m from SW Ohio and the smallies are on fire here too… I found the hyperjerk from 6th sense to be amazing for this situation… definitely need to be throwing a floating jerkbait and at times I’ll run mine on Berkeley fire line in black because it’s stiffer and doesn’t fray out as easy. It’s not an easy task throwing jerkbaits in creeks.. I just fish mine slower with little twitches so it doesn’t dive as deep.
@@andybales7318 on the GMR and 4 and 7 mile creeks. Yes water levels are low but rain coming tonight and tomorrow.. should be booming once the clarity starts to come back after!
Yo guys love the content. I own the pop x stick do you think it's got a suitable enough action for throwing x80 jr bfs baits and duo 57mr 63sp etc I also own the baitfinesse p5 and siglett and want to start throwing jerkbaits for perch
You guys ever run braid to leader on your jerkbait setups? Just picked up the new glx jerkbait rod, and plan on using it for both jerkbaits and topwater. Got it spooled up with 20# sufix 131 right now and was wondering how long a leader you would run. Used this rod with the metanium dc a few days ago throwing a pop max and it worked great. Love the short handle on it for working the baits. Plan on giving jerkbaits a good try this fall. I have a bunch of em, but never seem to use em much. Thanks, and great video as always.
Short leader like 6-12" is all you need, has nothing to do with visibility, just prevents limp braid from fowling your trebles after a twitch. Floro is the tool for leader because it's stiff
Ha ha I’ve been destroying them on my 110’s and the hooks are getting all bent out. I was literally just thinking I wish I could find that tactical video where he weighed the baits to make sure the action was unchanged and boom your video popped up
Any way yall could speak on the north a little bit? I feel like we're always 3 to 5 weeks off from you. I almost feel liek the fall transition for mass happened in the end of August. All the warming up happens for you first and the cooling off happens for us first
When i started jerkbait fishing seriously i didnt want to break the bank so i went with the 6ft8 St croix BASS X paired with an SLX y'all recommended. Luckily i got the older blue model because the newer ones have major reel seat issues
I have the new bass X and haven’t heard about the reel seat problem.. can you tell me a little more because if there is a problem I need to contact st Croix asap!
@@SW_OhioFinesseBanditConsider yourself lucky. The reviews on tackle warehouse only have it at 2.5 stars and all the bad ones mentioned the reel seat not staying secure. I read one where a guy said he sent his rod back and got a replacement only for the same thing to happen again. St Croix has acknowledged the issue with that 2023 model. I own a spinning rod that loosens up much more than it should
While i have plenty of Vision 110's/Jr's, I'm leaning away from Megabass as the hooks are garbage....Should not bend out on 12 lb mono & a 1 lb. Bass... having to change out hooks on a bait with that price tag is pretty ridiculous....There are other baits that catch plenty & have way better hooks.. oh yeah, way cheaper too
Hey Matt LOVE your videos, BUT, can you be more specific when describing which rods you are talking about? For example, you say the 6’10 MEDIUM for the X pride, but there are 5 different mediums, moderate, light extra fast, moderate fast, heavy fast, heavy moderate fast. This would be VERY helpful. Thanks!!!!
Yes, there are a ton. But when it comes to jerkbaits, you absolutely get what you pay for. We'll do a more in-depth video next month that should help with this.
@@tacticalbassin I was just asking because I’m twelve years old and I don’t spend a ton of money on fishing gear unless it’s rod and reels, or swim baits, top waters, and crankbaits because I have tons of confidence in those and I’m not one hundred percent confident in jerkbaits yet.
A lot of amazing baits have hit the market since then. It's still a great bait, but it's been overshadowed by competitive sized baits that have unique actions, sounds, etc.

@@LucasSnider86 thank you so much
Did Matt quote the late great Ricky Bobby? If you ain’t first, your last???
1st non-bot!!!
Thanks man! We appreciate you!
Jerkbait on grass flats on tidal rivers? Is that a thing please teach me the ways!
Thanks for the video. I also LOVE jerkbait fishing. When I use nice baits they always get bit off by pike. It must be nice fishing in lakes where you don’t have to worry about your $25 bait disappearing😂.
Oh, we constantly lose baits. Of all the fish catch clips in this video, maybe 2 of them were in lakes that didn't have pike or pickerel.
@@tacticalbassin those greasy missiles
Get a lure retriever. They're also very easy to make. You can convert a bomber slab style of spoon into a lure knocker. It just hammers against your snagged lure in the opposite direction until it frees the hook point(s).
@@gunadoo same problem to me but I have a solution….use a short leader of very thin Titan wire….almost no weight, doesn‘t affect the action of the bait and pike won‘t be able to cut. 4 inches of about 5-6 pound strength should prevent the most.
@@arnemueller2112 I’ll check it out I’ve been looking for something like this
So the new GLX jerkbait rod didn’t beat out the expride?
@@SW_OhioFinesseBandit I'm from SW Ohio too....u getting the smallies in the Whitewater River? Great Miami? Water levels are so low
I'm literally watching this, while I'm setting up my jerkbait rods from BFS to your standard sizes 😅
Isbthe expride the medium moderate fast or justbthe medium moderate?
Matt recommends the medium power Shimano Expride rod but it’s unclear what action is recommended for jerkbaits? Anyone know what Matt recommends?
The maverick is a tad better than the 110. Give it a try
Ha ha I’ve been destroying them on my 110’s and the hooks are getting all bent out. I was literally just thinking I wish I could find that tactical video where he weighed the baits to make sure the action was unchanged and boom your video popped up
How deep is a regular 110 good for in 5 feet visibility ? I feel like 15 feet is to deep but 10 feet feels to shallow .
Any way yall could speak on the north a little bit? I feel like we're always 3 to 5 weeks off from you. I almost feel liek the fall transition for mass happened in the end of August. All the warming up happens for you first and the cooling off happens for us first
Dont need any convincing!!! Thanks for the video
I’ll give up some hook ups to avoid using anything with three treble hooks.
I own a spinning rod that loosens up much more than it should
@@brandoknorr I have the casting model and haven’t had any issues with it yet. I will definitely watch it knowing this info.. thank you!
Thanks for jerkbait video. And YES, I also have Shimano Expride M. Haha.
Thanks!!!!
It'd the 6'10" Medium moderate fast, NOT the Moderate glass rod.
@@tacticalbassinTHANKS!!!
Are there any more affordable jerkbaits on the market ?
Yes, there are a ton. But when it comes to jerkbaits, you absolutely get what you pay for. We'll do a more in-depth video next month that should help with this.
@@tacticalbassin I was just asking because I’m twelve years old and I don’t spend a ton of money on fishing gear unless it’s rod and reels, or swim baits, top waters, and crankbaits because I have tons of confidence in those and I’m not one hundred percent confident in jerkbaits yet.
@@MooreMMI’ve done prettt decent on smithwick rogues and rapala jerkbaits. FWIW
What happen to the pointer sp 100 ??
A lot of amazing baits have hit the market since then. It's still a great bait, but it's been overshadowed by competitive sized baits that have unique actions, sounds, etc.
@@tacticalbassin sounds good just found a few on eBay and I’ve caught some giant bass on them and remember you guys talking about them witch is why I even tried them . Thanks
What is the worst lake/body of water that you have ever fished? And what about that lake/body of water, made it so bad in your opinion?
Does any one know why they don’t curse
