This is probably the best transmission rebuild I have seen because you told me something I have been looking for forever. How and what to measure to get clearances of the transmission. Can you post the tool you used to measure.
@bvspeed yes please, this. Yous should link the tools in the video and try to get an affiliate link on them so we can make sure you get paid when we buy the tool.
I tell you guys what… I have my own version of this tool in the works and am planning on a full blown “How-To” as well. It’s going to take a little bit of time, but it will be coming for sure!
Haha! My 4.4 was way too long. I could’ve went 4.7, but didn’t want to risk it “not making much of a difference”. Especially with being such low power, I concluded that 4.9 would be the way to go.
wow nice video very informative love that i want to do that for a da 90 tranny upgrade 3 and 4 for boost what ⚙️ should i get this car its for daily drive and streed race for 2 3 and 4 so i want long gears set up
pretty good video.... very disapointed i watched the hole thing for 1 part and you either did not do or it or show it ....... how to replace the snap ring i can not get my old one out lol
Great video! I’m rebuilding a stock 4.7 ratio spec r transmission. Where can you find new shift forks ? My trans has a 3rd gear grind as well as 4th gear.
So when I put my main shaft by itself inside and tried to cover it with the bell housing, for some reason it didn’t cover correctly. It’s as if there’s a half an inch all around stopping the bell housing from meeting the opposite housing . When I removed the bell housing, the top bearing was stuck in the bell housing. I can’t figure out what’s going on. When I saw this video it seems like you just inputted the main shaft and easily put the bell housing on without any problems. I tired even rubber hammering it down but it still won’t come together properly, and yes I did make sure the dowels were in the right position. Any input is appreciated.
If the Mainshaft is the only thing you have inside when trying to close the housings together, but can’t… the only thing I can think of is the input shaft bearing washer at the top. It has a locating tab that needs to be oriented to fit inside the recess on the trans housing side.
I was hoping you could really help me out here. My 2000 Honda insight, the new bearing on the mainshaft has a shield on one side and is open on the other side. The old bearing was open on both sides. Would you happen to know which way the shield should face? Thanks
@@bvspeed Thanks for the help, actually, and I feel very lucky someone knew. The bearing on the mainshaft actually had the inner race on one side that sticks out slightly by a mm or so.The bearing was not completely flat on that one side if you run a straight edge over it. The one I took off had the wider inner race also. I never even knew a bearing would be designed like this, its possible it could be because to help with oil getting into the bearing?
@bvspeed, I got a question. I swapped a k20z3 6-speed tranny and noticed my 3rd gear it hard to shift into, like theres a wall. Is that because of mis-aligned sliders you think?
The slider really can’t be misaligned since it’s internal splines mesh with the hub, which is splined to the shaft itself. Typically if you have a hard time getting it in a particular gear, especially like how you explained it (like hitting a wall), that’s usually the synchro spring. It’s that little wire spring clip that sits around the synchro itself. When it breaks, it blocks the slider from being able to slide onto the synchro, which of course will guide you onto the gear you’re trying to select.
Bro, what happen when clearance on diff its bigger then 0.1? I build my transmission, and i have ~0.13 clearance. I cant buy this shim in my country, something can go wrong now? I dont have any bad noises
Ideally you’d want to shim it for proper clearance, but that’s obviously an issue for you. Honestly, that’s a tough one haha. Never really been put in that situation. You could technically drive it. It may last for your entire ownership, it might not 🤷🏻♂️
The B16 transmission should be good enough for track use, especially if you're just starting out. Too many people focus on the build, just get out there and drive what you have!
@bvspeed not not really I have a fully built darton sleeve b18 with a b16 head made 380 all motor n 100 shot on a ls tranny but I got my hands on a em1 tranny I try to order a 5.1 from mfactory but they put of stock finally order a 4.9
I measured my shim clearance on my transmission and the spec is the same 0 to .1mm. I can force in a .2 mm shim. Should I get a new shim, or is .1 out of tolerance not too bad. I am really forcing the .2mm shim under also.
@@bvspeed This would be the differential. Just wondering if I should be forcing in the shim or not. I can force in a .2mm shim if I push hard enough, and this would be out of the .00mm to .1mm spec.
@@Fighter4Street Gotcha. If you can still get a 0.2mm to fit, I’d consider it out of spec. 0.1mm is your max, so you’re technically 2x out of clearance.
10 years from now, someone will be watching this to rebuild that s80.
❤️ ❤️❤️

Good tip on the Lh threads 😉

Seems like a running theme anymore...., WAITING on parts in shipment. We ALL out here strugglin’!!
😫😭😫😭
Thanks for making this video!!!
Thanks for watching!!
You the boss! Free thumbs up for the vid.
Oh
Dude awesome content as always man can’t wait for the next vid. 👏👌👍
Thanks dude! 🙌🏼
would i be able to open a transmission and tell if it has mfactory lsd and gears?
Where can I get a parts cleaner like that and what brand is yours? Thanks for any feedback love the videos!
I’ll have to check again, but I’m pretty sure it was just a cheap Harbor Freight unit haha!
I thought my stock 4.7 fd was something.. 4.9 fd... Spicy 🔥🔥

@@bvspeed totally understand... Get the most out of the setup! It's definitely going to have some 'pep in it's step' once the refresh is done. 😂
Go ITR tran or stay GSR upgrade wave trac LSD FD 4.9??? What should I do with 1-5 gears???

Great video
Thank you!

Incredible video. Can’t wait to see that EG ripping it at the track. Also how many RSs in the background?
Thank you sir! We have a total of 4!

Thank you! If you’re looking for brand new B series, shift forks… good luck! A lot of this stuff has been discontinued by Honda 😢
@@bvspeed my local Acura dealer had 1-2 and 3-4 luckily! Some of the parts are still available if you order them 🙏

we’re you able to spin the diff with ur fingers when measuring the clearance for the shim ?
How much does it all cost? Awesome vids
Honestly I don’t remember… a few hundred bucks? Check on Synchrotech’s website for your application!
I have b20vtec s4c tranny gsr cam n/a can you give me advice for track which one is good gearing

How are the carbon synchro holding ? Any complaints?
About 4 track days in, no issues yet!
Are the endplay specs for the differential different because your not using the stock tapered bearings?
That’s correct. The way you measure end play for a ball bearing is different than how you would a tapered roller bearing.
Can you install a straight cut final drive on a standard helical (k20) gearbox? If not what would be required to do this if possible. Thanks!
Yes you can! I did a TCR on Kevin Vue’s Integra and he had a straight cut FD!
@@bvspeed was that 5spd or 6spd? I can only find PPG straight cut FD’s for 5spd :(
I believe it was for his previous b series so it would’ve been 5 speed.
Aye bro will I get any gains if I get a 5.1 final drive on my b16a2 aka em1 transmission???...thank you
