I started watching this video as someone who was intimidated to tear into a FWD manual transmission. Now I'm a Certifited Transmission Mechanic. Excellent content!
7 years old and I still come to this video as a reference whenever I’m taking a transmission apart man I love your Videos Mark I really do! ❤ B series for life!
Love how easy and calm you are in your abilities to be able to do this difficult teardown and re-assemble and yet maintain a professional attitude. That's what this sport is missing and has been for sometime but you definitely bring out the best of what people can do, me watching this helps bring the best in me even. . Thank you
This video legit saved me from a ton of grief. I put the bearing that the snap ring fits around on upside down so the groove is at the bottom. I saw ur last step is to rotate the shaft and make sure it spins freely, mine did not lol. Thank you for vid!
Cool video. Never did a B series before. If you have a small head on the magnet you wouldn't need to shift to get the ball bearings out. The names of the 3 pieces you talk about in the video are the locking ring(commonly called a synchro), the slider, and the hub. The main shaft is the one with the input shaft on it.
Best in depth video for a diy . I'm currently replacing the input/mainshaft bearing in my d series transmission thanks for the video same concept and helps me alot . It's my first time inside a manual transmission .
This tutorial s what I need it. I have 2 B Series transmission that I have to fix but mine one broke first n the other one don't know yet. But I opened mines n all I needed were the gears r n the zinc roll he couldn't explain it better than. Respect 🙏💯
ahhhh!!!!!!!! love this!! this video came out 5 days too late! i just spent over 400$ to have my trans rebuilt! didn't know it was this easy! love this channel
Hey man! I have to give you props. I just rebuilt my GSR transmission using this as a guide. Replaced third gear and the syncro with a syncrotech CF one. Also replaced the input shaft bearing and all seals in the trans. New clutch and everything is butter. I put generic castrol 10w30 in it for now. I am going to switch to Honda MTF next oil change. Just wanted a cheap break in oil to clean out the trans
Excellent demonstration video. You have help give me encouragement/confidence to have a go at repairing my manual transmission. As you advise, appropriate tools, clean, items placed in order, be calm, concerntrate, pay attention to disassembly/assembly. Thankyou, regards from Australia. 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
nice video been watching you guys for a while. only thing I'd like to mention is that 9x out 10 the synchro gets damaged due to the synchro spring or as you guys called it a snap ring. that synchro spring is actually the brake pad between the selector and synchro/gear. the springs slows down the the gear to allow the selector to slide in much easier. having to replace the synchro or selector is only secondary due to amount of damage. sometimes only the springs are necessary to replace. if you did not replace the synchro spring your still going to grind 3rd gear
for first timers on transmission, a very good tip i used my self is take pictures after you opened the case from all angles, so you know how its suppose to look when ur finished, its easy to get confused when ur doing this
Help full video watched this last year and the first 10mins I got scared and stopped watching it, redoing my motor set up and decided to practice on the transmission and this video was hell of a help !
This is my favorite video from you guys by far. Makes me have the confidence to finally do my transmission for sure. Kinda nervous because last time I open one up all of my gears fell all into pieces. Drove it pretty hard lol. Made it look simple.
According to all my b series factory manuals, the concave washer faces the input shaft bearing with the curved side. the 1mm spacer fits above it. Also, its easier to remove shift selector by removing the inner part, by lifting up on the little rod and removing the inner selector piece. It will allow you to line up the parts with the shift shaft easier as well. Further, I find it easiest to put the trans in third gear when dropping the outer case. Also you can just flip the trans over to get the counter shaft to slip into the snap ring, rather than prying it with a screw driver. Do this after the housing bolts are in, should just slide right in. Not trying to be critical of all your videos, just offering some helpful suggestions from my own years of experience.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. My passenger side axle has a lot of play and I figured out where it seats in the diff is extremely worn. This video has made me confident enough to replace it myself. :)
The thing you're calling a "snap ring" is the main reason these synchros start going bad. It's called a synchro spring. It's what slows down the synchros for the selector to engage into the gear. They're a supposed to be round and become square when they are worn. Really good vid tho.
excellent information that will save a lot of people money once you have the right tools and skill. Next I would like to see how to replace final drive gear or swapping LS or GSR 4th and 5th gears into a S4C box. THANKS A LOT!!!
this is great thanks man, really helpful giving my trans a full refresh right now while giving it an ls 5th gear. Knowledge is power and you dropped the knowledge thank you!!
My god, you're amazing dude! This is literally the most important video I've ever found and is so useful. Now as someone else stated to know how to install LSD.
I have a b18b1 with a ls trans and the case wouldn’t close all the way , I kept getting it to about a 1/4 of a inch and it would refuse to go all the way Down . After purchasing a chillton I found the problem! , this video is perfect with the exception of a ls trans . On the 3/4 gear hub it must be reversed from what’s showed in this video . At least In my case and per my chillton. Aside from that this video is perfect .
Makes life easy, how the B and K series trans are so similar its like nothing but a plastic tray and another gear(6th) makes the k series so different , But good video thanks for the step by step explanation, keep it up
hey my differential just blew. which replacement differential did you use? i also have a B17 YS1 cable . i dont even know where to find a B17 specific differential. any tips?
Great video's love the in depth of the gears. Its important to know when doing the diff to record the gaps of the bearings between the diff and between the case. Ive never had an issue with sealing the bolts always had issues with low tq bolts vibrating loose if i didnt. Good to know that its cracked on you because it hasnt happened to me yet doesnt mean it wont in the future.
That was fucking amazingly helpful dude. Thank YOU!! Like the chap below said, an LSD conversion or removal and installation would be EPIC now to complete this video series. I'm a big fan of you guys so BIG UP from the UK
Thanks again on this video, I guess I need to buy a HSG hoodie now - this video saved my butt rebuild entire trans installed quaife lsd, car is so happy now.
Thanks for that video, it was well put together and very informitive bud, I was hopen you got to the counter shaft with 1st and 2nd and how those are removed with that main nut too. But it showed me the main shaft and how to pull gears and trans case apart which is going to be helpful too me and others on here. I look foward too the next videos you post as I have been watching your olders ones since the other day, way to go and thanks:)
Thanks for the video, when I put my case back on my b16 trans I believe I forgot to line up that ring. The case was very hard to put on and now the input shaft doesn’t spin. I’m gonna tear it back apart today and fix it
Thnks for this upload I gonna do my D16z6 it grinds on 1st gr,and I can't let the gear stay in gear I have to put it back In neutral all the time or I will hear a grind thnk u much God bless stay safe.
Transmission parts are stupid effing expensive. I'm rebuilding an S80 transmission out of my 1998 Integra and my Acura employee price for just the 3rd gear/synchronizer set alone cost me just a over $300. I'm at least thankful I didn't need to replace the 4th and 5th gear set as well this time. I could have saved $100 if I'd ordered only the synchronizer parts I needed to make a sketchy repair from an aftermarket company. For only an extra $100 it was a no-brainer to go OEM and get the whole 3rd gear set with all new synchronizer parts for 3rd to 4th gear. Very nice UA-cam Channel Honda Street Garage...
HSG ! Mark thanks for the good tutorial brother. I need to tear my S80 apart and I remembered you had a video on. Always good vids man thanks . JaHRaH*

The easiest to understand trans rebuild I've seen. Now I'm going to fix all the bad transmissions at my shop.Well done.

Mickey moises, where to get synchronizers, apart from the dealership? They are to expensive for me right now.
@@declanosbourne62 I would definitely check google. If you have a honda/acura, Gearspeed is a reputable website.
