    Yes, in my experience a typical doctor doesn't want to help you, they just want to put you on a pill for this, a pill for that, a pill, a pill... and no thank you, I don't need or want to be put on pills. I am so thankful for PCRM and now you are available in Texas, thank you all so much. I have to add, Dr. Barnard is such a wealth of information and compassion. I wish all doctors took a note from him.

    One can always have a conversion problem..can't convert t3 to t4. That was me .My t3 wasn't even measuring it was in the basement. Dessicated thyroid was the answer. Got rid of all My thyroid problems. I finally felt Normal . Went to a functional medicine doctor. Best thing I ever did. I also went gluten free. Very low sugar. Eat fruits and veggies. Very little red meat. I like this doctor. He makes sense.

    If you already know what to eat, and you exercise, doctors need to know that eating less and exercising more does not help if you have a Leptin imbalance. In a study at Tufts, a patient participant was eating correctly, they did not have one thing to change...And, the person was exercising...running 6 to 8 miles a day and lifting 8 pound weights and doing calesthenics, and, was not losing weight. Neither was the person eating too much. It turns out the lepting-ghrelin hormones were out of balance. The same person was being told by the doctor to eat less and exercise more... Told that for years... Fortunately she had the ability to tell the doctor if she ate any less she would not be eating. THEN, the doctor checked what she was eating (She ate well (healthily) before following the doctor's advice. When the doctor checked the data, he said eat more. Doctors need to be current on the research and use DATA!

    I developed Celiac disease in 2009 and had to cut out all gluten. I never felt well and always tired. In 2015 I developed rheumatoid arthritis.
    I started a totally plant based diet, no oil, in June 2016 and reversed the RA by 90% in 10 months. At the same time I had a TSH test which was 8. My doctor said we would watch it before attempting treatment. In December 2017 my TSH was 17.
    Because I’m trying to avoid all medication and synthetic thyroid began taking a naturopathic thyroid supplement which crashed my thyroid twice! I switched to using an Ayurvedic thyroid support which seemed to help and my TSH test was under 2. Then in January 2021 it escalated to 22.1. I began eating raw vegetables only but because I’m very thin I couldn’t sustain it. However by July my TSH was 12. Last December it was 9.2. I had a test recently-May 2022- and it had slightly increased to 9.6.
    I now feel very I’ll. Lethargic, more hair loss, papery lizard skin on my arms and legs and increasingly unbalanced and dizzy as I walk.
    I’ve always tried my best to be active, working hard physically and staying mentally astute, but I’m mentally and physically exhausted.
    I’m still using the Ayurvedic treatment which I doubled in dose last year and my practitioner said iodine supplementation would probably not help my condition.
    I have come to understand that
    Estrogen dominance, chronic stress and anxiety, adrenal fatigue and overproduction of cortisol can seriously impact the thyroid.
    I’m only 68 and feel as though I’m fighting for my life right now.

    This was so packed full of great information. Thank you also for clearing up what the Keto diet is. I had my suspicions but having never been an Adkins fan (tried it once for a few days, maybe a week) and felt so horrible I gave it up. I did not care for all the artificial sweeteners and Adkins specific products as well as the amount of soy that was in them (seemed high). I have a few magazines about Keto and like the veggie recipes but having dental issues makes it extremely hard to consume the amount of salads or other raw veggie dishes. Good thing I really like soups.
    Now, however, I see I am on the right path incorporating more veggies in my diet. I've never been a big meat eater although carbs can be a vice. I do like a sandwich at lunch. I eliminated sugar in nearly everything (lots of label reading) aside from my spoon of honey in my morning tea or on cereal if that's breakfast.

    Thank you, I saw Jeanne on another video... as I mentioned on her video my doctor told me I'd never get off or reduce my meds but I've reduced my levothyroxine from 110 mcg to 75 mcg within a year... eating 3 lettuce leaf w banana and a few strawberry smoothies, all organic and I'm growing the lettuce myself along with 1/2 clove of garlic and 3/4 serving protein powder that contains the amino acids -- I do this 3 times a week, have cut down meats, cheeses, oils and butters... make sure to drink a lot of water, garlic is known as a phase 1 & 2 toxin remover (go research) but it also really dropped my BP so I drink a lot of water prior, during and after to keep flushing those toxins.

    Since I avoid MDs, I got my own bloodwork done as I was suspicious I might have hypothyroid. My TSH was good but my T4 was only BARELY okay and my T3 was definitely low. Thankfully, I didn't have thyroid antibodies but I've also been off gluten for many years. I'm treating myself with supplements: high zinc, selenium, ashwagandha, guggul, L-tyrosine, and iodine. I was taking eluthero too, but quit it. I may add it back. I need to recheck my blood soon, but I'm feeling like my thyroid is functioning better. I probably should have also had my blood checked for reverse T3 but didn't. Gluten attacks the thyroid in many people. It's often seen that people with Celiac Disease also have Hashimotos.

    I have been on a healthy wholefoods plant based Diet for over 10yrs. I went into peri menopause at 46 (I’m now 52) and found out i tested positive for autoimmune but not thyroid autoimmune, yet my thyroid was very Very low. Despite my best efforts to help my thyroid naturally, I ended up having to go on Nature thyroid. Now two years later I’ve had to increase my dose recently. My triglycerides are elevated as well on my recent blood work? I am seeing a naturopath but would like to see someone else who eats the way I do. There is no one in my area unfortunately. I do not want to be on a medication my whole life but just dont know what else I can do? I started limiting my carb intake as suggested from my dr in hopes this will help. I’m extremely frustrated since i work so hard to stay healthy with my diet and exercise. Now my dr wants me doing cardio 6 times a week, i was only doing 3 days a week.

    • @WDS100
      @WDS100 3 роки тому

      In South Africa, I aim for T4 between 5 and 16 and TSH 0.5 and 5. I started with undiagnosed Hyperthyroidism a year ago, which then flipped to Hypothyroidism 6 months back. (TSH >50 and T4 0.05.)
      I couldn't handle Eltroxin and was overdosed between 150mg and 100mg. Weight and hair loss and raised blood sugar.
      Changed to Euthyrox 100mg and I have slowly been reducing the dose.
      6 months in, (T4 now 0.15 and TSH 15.) now taking 62.5mg and eating a plant based diet since that last blood test.
      Endocrinologist wanted me to increase dose to 75mg again.
      I feel great, so will keep testing and hopefully find a good balance for all the numbers - weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and Thyroid hormones.

    How does one submit a question? I got my blood test results and my iron was low. I thought maybe it was due to drinking coffee, (aside from being female), so I quit coffee. Not sure if that correlation is accurate. Also, my vitamin D was low. Very low. Is it true that you should take your vitamin D supplement with a meal that includes healthy fats? (like avocado and/or tofu or oatmeal)? Because I'm still trying to lose weight. I lost 50 pounds but I still have at least 30 to go. It is very hard, but my thyroid levels appear to be normal. I assume my lack of energy is because of the vitamin D and iron. (I average 1400 calories a day, some days up to 1800). Also, what is a good calorie goal? I eat low calorie density so I do eat lots of food.

    • @donnaw1835
      @donnaw1835 3 роки тому

      Flattlander Montgomery at my last doctor's appointment my vit D level was low even though I take a supplement. My doctor said to make sure to take my vit D supplement with a meal that has at least 15 g of fat. I was taking mine with breakfast but my meal of oatmeal with ground flax seeds, raisins, and oatmilk was no where near 15g of fat. I added a quarter cup of walnuts. I will be retested in October to see if it worked. Since you mentioned tofu and avocado, you can get 15g of fat from 3/4 cup of sliced avocado or 1 and 1/2 cups tofu. Oatmeal is not a good source of fat. Since you may not want to add additional fat if you don't have to, maybe you could calculate the nutritional data for each of your meals to see if there is already one where you are getting more than 15 g of fat.

I got a prescription of vitamin D that I only have to take once a week, so I can work it in pretty well I'm sure. Many thanks!!! It makes sense, that vtiamin D is fat soluble, that there needs to be some fat present.

    Because sea salt, pink salt, etc don't have the official legally-required measured amount of iodine, those products are legally required to have the official 'this salt does not contain iodine' label. I like this because I want the proven amount. When these iodine laws were passed, the whole Midwestern USA was having deficiency goiter, the prominent neck swelling which is the extreme manifestation. Glad I didn't live back then. So basically I cut out almost all processed foods. I also, increased legumes/pulses (beans etc), grains and leafy greens (I was already a big potato and sweet potato eater). Your weight is quite low make sure that you eat good quantities of wfpb. If you can't eat a big meal, try eating 4 - 6 meals through out the day. Also, add a vegetable smoothie or two. It would be interesting to see how much refined carbohydrates you currently consume (refined sugars) - look at beverages and food.

      Mary, I had the same issue---make sure you get minimum 400mg Magneseum daily. And potassium....we need 4300mg potassium! Nobody I know gets this much potassium from their food. I take 400mg magneseum and 2 -595mg potassium supplements at bedtime and cut out processed carbs and sugars and my BP is in the normal range now. The processed carbs and sugars always raised my BP more than salty food, BUT their is a fine dance between potassium and sodium in your body so if you eat something salty make sure to counter it with a potassium rich food or pop a supplement. It affects hundreds of processes in the body and is so important to heart function and BP.
