    a full teaspoon cinnamon every morning in my oatmeal, also sprinkled on sweet potatoes, apple halves, and 1/4 tsp in coffee. Caveat: All I've been using for years is McCormick "ground" cinnamon, have no idea if it's the Ceylon type; label only says it's been aged up to 15 years for richness." Anyone? TIA. Update: A little research indicates McCormick and most other cinnamon powders sold in groceries is Cassia, not Ceylon. Ceylon cinnamon readily available on Amazon, my option since no health food grocery near my small town.

      I just got some Ceylon cinnamon and it surprised me that it smelled/tasted different. It’s less “cinnamony”. I will use it, just add a bit more. There is a lot to learn, who knew we were not really eating the cinnamon plant all these years, but it’s cousin.

    Speaking of cinnamon, I add some to pasta sauce and chilis. Gives it a nice note of flavor, plus the health benefits mentioned in this interview. Not the usual place most people think of to use cinnamon, but I think it pairs well with tomato kinds of sauces.

    I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for about 10 years now. Symptoms included weight gain, fatigue, mood swings, and dry skin and hair. In fact a hair stylists suggested I get tested. I have been on Levothyroxine ever since and was told I would have this condition for life. I later learned that several of my first cousins have the same condition. And my sister was later diagnosed. So it appears it is genetic. I depend on exercise to help maintain my energy levels. However have tried different changes in my diet and have experienced no change in the level of medication required. I eat a Mediterranean diet very plant forward. My grandparents lived to be 90’s and 100 and had a similar diet and were active.

    I’m happy the Dr. Said that hypothyroidism it’s an Inmune problem, my daughter used Soy Milk when she born and I very respectfully wouldn’t call her a baby plan, like I’m 70 still drink milk, grew with row milk in a farm, and I am not consider myself a baby caw. Yes we had a farm, every caw get very well wash right before machines go up, from there the milk goes throughout a tubes to a sanitize tank, where the temperature has to be perfect for that milk. And yes I have eating all kind of vegetables,but so does meat. I honestly think a great health start and finish with a good balance, like my mom use to teach us, if you eat a reasonable quantity and variety you will be nourishing all your system in a correct manner. So far I have brothers in their 90. I have been very healthy a whole my life.

    Iodine is a vital component as is selenium. However, an ND or functional doctor will also look at diagnostic labs indicating imbalances that can stress the thyroid; e.g. environmental and food toxins, heavy metals, gut permeability, glyphosate, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides. High levels of aflatoxin can not only affect thyroid health but often triggers kidney cancer. Food is certainly a major driver for thyroid health or deterioration but the impact of other factors are often more destructive.

But now this advice to use salt to get iodine...I also have hypertension that's bee difficult to get rid of. I've gotten rid of it once before when I lost weight but gained after having a baby and now its high again. I'd like to eat as low salt as possible without worrying about iodine

    Iodine is NOT recommended for my condition. In fact it only exasperates the symptoms.

      Plant-based milk

    • @iamdebmiller
      @iamdebmiller 4 місяці тому +2

      There are many reasons why milk from animals is not good for humans, no matter if it's whole, skim, raw, A2, or any other iteration. First, I assume you are an adult, as I am. We are not babies. Mammals make milk for their babies, but at an early age, babies wean. Humans are the only species I can think of on the entire planet who insist on drinking milk into adulthood.
      Weaning involves enzymes that are produced in the digestive systems of infants. As babies age, those enzymes naturally fade away, and the babies lose their capacity to digest the milk. So they start eating solid foods and move away from milk. But when older children and adults continue to drink milk they no longer have the enzymes to digest it. This is often mistakenly called lactose intolerance. But what is actually happening is that we are no longer babies and we are drinking stuff that is no longer appropriate for us. Not only are we not babies, we are not baby cows.
      In consuming milk from cows or goats, we are drinking milk from an entirely different species than our own. Cows' milk is very different in composition compared to human breast milk. It is not designed for us, at all, in any form. Even our babies should not get animal milk because the nutrient profiles are very different. And everyone should wean as toddlers.
      Think about it - would you feel comfortable climbing into your mother's lap now and asking her to nurse you? I surely would not, and I hope you see how ridiculous that would be, too. Also, can you picture yourself crawling under a cow and putting your mouth on a cow's udder? I can't. Again, it's ridiculous. But that's in essence what we are trying to do when we go for animal milk.
      Cows' milk is filled with naturally occurring hormones that are present because the cows are pregnant and/or lactating when they are milked. Hormones in milk are designed to stimulate growth. If you are a baby cow, it's the perfect food. If you are a human, and especially a human past the age of weaning, not so much. Then those hormones can fuel improper cell growth, which is also commonly known as cancer. Milk is not healthy or safe food for us.
      We can get all the nutrition we need from plant milks and other plant foods, and we don't need animal milk at all, and we are far healthier without it. Farmers add additional hormones to the cows' diets to force them to produce more milk. They also add antibiotics to animal feed to "fatten them up" or otherwise control their biology, and we absorb all these hormones and antibiotics, which upsets our own natural hormonal balance.
      Eating a steady, slow diet of antibiotics causes these miracle drugs to lose their effectiveness, leading to a situation where without antibiotics, medical personnel have lost an extremely valuable tool against life-threatening infections. We could return to a time when getting an infection is a literal death sentence, if we don't stop abusing antibiotics.
      And, there is the whole ethical side of it as well. Cows are forcibly impregnated against their will, and so that people can drink the milk, the newborn baby calves are killed - shot or hammered in the head to death. We are stealing the most basic life fluid known on this planet, literally, precious mother's milk from the mouths of babies. And those babies are killed to provide this. It is hideous. We don't need milk, we get sick when we drink it, it causes horrific suffering for the animals - there is no good reason to drink animal milk of any kind. Hope this info helps paint the broad picture of the many things that are not good about dairy.
