      Some people are insulted that Dr. Barnard says Fargo is not such a great place! I live in Anchorage. People can say the same. Who cares? We do have many problems - huge homeless issue, big crime issue, crummy weather 9 months of the year, etc., etc., etc. He calls a spade a spade!

    Dr. Neal Barnard still looks healthy and great. I began my Vegan journey almost three years ago; I look terrible due to depression and PTSD. However, my kids and wife started to eat some of my vegan food too if it tastes good. The good news is that my back pain disappeared for no reason. I had hip pain since I was 12 years old. All of a sudden I was free from back pain since 2019. Now I am 54 years old. I wish I started planted-based food early on in life. My back injury was caused by being forced to work in a labor camp when I was 8 or 9 during Khmer Rough, Cambodian Communist regime. I got PTSD when my parents were executed by the communist regime. Anyway, I am glad to be part of a vegan community. Love and Compassion to you all.

    So true about taste buds / taste preference changing.
    After not eating my usual garbage for a bout two months I just had to break and get a Burger King bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. Well, I could it wasn't what I had enjoyed for years. It was too salty and left a layer of grease on my hands and lips. It tasted ok but after the third bite I concluded, "well that was the flavor I remember but I never need to eat that again".
    Same story with anything that I used to love, even when I had it in my life for decades as a favorite. Eventually I didn't ever stop to taste the things I used to eat. I would simply, and without even making an effort, just keep walking. My old ways don't even appeal to me anymore. About the biggest reaction something gets from me these days that I used to love is 'I can see why people like that but to me it looks like dying ten years too soon'.
    Once you get over that hump the old ways just won't appeal to you any more. Ok, I have weaknesses but the things that get me there are some ok vegan subs for. But even then they don't pull me in that often since I am mostly a whole plant food eater now.

    Friday night in my house has always been pizza night. I used to eat a standard pizza but now it’s pizza dough, smeared with cashew cream, and covered in a few of these: chickpeas, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, nuts and pumpkin seeds. And I love it!
    This speech is brilliant. He didn’t mention MS but I understand there are studies that say that diet has a huge amount to do with how your MS advances. I have MS and I haven’t eaten meat or dairy for about seven years. I recently gave up fish. My walking isn’t brilliant but it’s a lot better than many people.

    • @born_a_bodymind

      I am trying to find out about vegan diet and MS - I've been vegan for 3 yrs, veggie for 12 before that, but was recently diagnosed with MS. The research I'm finding on UA-cam seems to be leaning towards including meat - Terry Wahls' Paleo diet - it's very compelling... but I really don't want to eat meat! I also don't want MS.
      Any thoughts??

      @@born_a_bodymindI personally know two ppl that have reverse severe MS with strict carnivore diet . One of them actually regrew the myelin on his nerves and fixed his brain mood disorder and gut issues . I’m a strict carnivore. It took me from bed ridden to getting my life and mind back .

    • @born_a_bodymind
      @born_a_bodymind 8 місяців тому

      @@Christinesobsevations Interesting... what diet were they both, and you, eating previously? A standard Western diet? My understanding is that a carnivore diet is such a dramatic change, and so lacking in fibre, that the body has a massive break and can rest and heal in the short term (I guess ancestrally, humans would have eaten nearly completely meat for the winter season once a year), so I can see why it benefits. But I need to weigh that up with my personal ethics about whether we have the right to eat animals anymore - as we did when we and they were wild. I'm really glad for you and your friends that the symptoms have been reversed, that's great.

    @43:10 This happened to me, exactly 😂 Tell me it's forever and my fear of commitment kicks in hard. Tell me it's temporary and even pain isn't that big of a deal. After the trial period was over, I forgot all about eating meat. I was scared...what if something bad happens? I asked my doctor if it was safe for me to keep eating just plants. He politely said yes without making feel silly for asking. A decade later and I still really love it. I wish I could pass it out like a flyer, but you just don't know until you try. Blood work every so many years (so I feel confident I am feeding myself well) and I couldn't be happier with any other diet and/or lifestyle.

    My mother was diabetic, 1 infected kidney removed. 2nd kidney infected because of poor diets, no exercise, too much stress caused by her 7 children!!! and a negative mentality (I'm gonna eat whatever i want anyway I'm gonna die). She regretted that statement during her visits to the dialysis facility plugged to a dialysis machine to have her blood cleansed which also caused her depression because of her medical condition. Lots of visits to the ER. She finally got a kidney transplant but took lots of medication that were prescribed. She lasted only a couple of years then had a stroke because of family problems (2 children who caused her stress and grief because of THEIR poor life choices). THAT SCARED THE BURGER 🍔 OUT OF ME!...i became an Adventist and I chose to educate myself on how to live a healthy lifestyle which they taught! 1 have only 1 adult son who i love dearly and i want to live long and healthy to see him have a family and be able to do things with the family. For those of you who believe in God, what was the first diet before sin came in? Animal/flesh slaughtered was allowed after sin entered this world! SAD!!! People, educate yourselves and put it into practice! 👍

    I wish I could eat vegan and stay healthy. I don’t like eating animals but unfortunately the only diet that help me is ketogenic diet. I love vegetables and that’s a big part of my diet. I do eat Eggs and meat. Never felt healthier before.
    My PCP was surprised how good my labs are. My BP, HbA1C, CRP, Thyroid and lipid panel are all good.
    I appreciate vegan doctors advocating veganism to keep balance.

    29:53 I’ve been strictly avoiding, no exceptions, all foods and drinks with added ingredients like “ferrous…”, “iron”, “____ oxide” (iron oxide, aka rust) “natural flavors”, “vegan natural flavors”, & “added vitamins and minerals” of any kind, and other crap (the list is large).. for a few years (practicing a vegan diet) A deep intuitive repulsive distaste arose in my Being for products with these labels, which is great because I’m learning to make things from scratch that I liked but will no longer consume do to the added crap. I’m getting to experiment, to include making my own soaps with out the added toxins environmental pollutants etc. Loving it. I’ve also started intermittent fasting a few months ago after learning about Autophagy to see what comes of it. Anyhow thanks for the upload. I think this is the first video that I’ve heard mention a concern that I had about eating iron. 🌻

    It is not the rice in Japan that makes them healthy, but the fish, raw fish, and things like probiotic made veggies and fruits they call pickles, and things like mushrooms. The problem with the meat now in america is that if is CAFO rather than pasture raised. The fat on that kind of animals is mostly Omega 6 rather than Omega 3. Our ancestral diet was mainly meat, except when they were not successful in the hunt.

    Saturated Fat doesn't clog arteries.
    The hypothesis has long been but its based on improper research.
    Infact updated research has been comming out recently on real causation of artery clog.
    Saturated fat is indeed necessary for immunity and brain development.
    Vegan is a healthy diet too but thinking that animal food is unhealthy will be unwise. Deepen your research on saturated fat

    I have to disagree on cheese. Fermented dairy has shown to be inversly associated with cardiovascular disease. You just need to avoid milk and butter. Otherwise I fully agree that eating less meat is very important to ger healthy. Legumes are very delicious. I love lentil bolognese sauce. I lost nearly all my visceral fat on this flexitarian diet.

      Problem with cheese is it concentrates the estrogen in dairy to levels so high doctors are suing the FDA to put a hormonal cancer warning label on it.

    do you recommend people test their blood sugar after eating vegan meal to see if their blood sugar goes up or down? you do know that the starch in pasta, rice, flour pancake turn to sugar once eaten. does that matter or not?

    • @Jeca6280
      @Jeca6280 9 місяців тому

      Only eat whole grain if you want to eat those things… those complex carbs don’t let your blood sugar spike as the simple carbs do. For pasta I do recommend to go for lentil or chickpea pasta.
