The line, "my old man was born to rock, he's still trying to beat the clock" always makes me think to my father who is getting close to 80 years old and still goes to concerts and parties. I totally respect that he's living his best life

When this song came out in 1994, I remember VH1 used to play the music video all the time, but they had to mute/change the word "joint" The same with the radio stations playing the song. 28 years later, the House just passed legislation that would legalize marijuana nationwide. It amazes me how times change.

Full Moon Fever is Tom's best album by far. I have all of them. This album and Southern Accents are kinda crappy. All great artists release crap from time to time. Tom is my favorite! He can sing blues, country, rock, and rockabilly. You should dig deep into the tracks that mainstream radio doesn't play. Suggestions for you: Country-Image of Me (originally be Conway Twitty), Blues-Good Enough (Tom loved blues artists and played with many) Rockabilly -Lonesome Dave, Reggae-Don't Pull Me Over. And my favorite that will get you in the feels is Southern Accents where he talks about his mom. He had a bunch of stars in his videos. Johnny Depp, Luke Wilson, Faye Dunaway, Kim Bassinger, even Sir Anthony Hopkins. I can't even begin to tell you how versatile his music is.

I never understood the outcry about that--the whole Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass books are essentially a sometimes violent psychedelic trip--between the characters (disappearing cat, smoking caterpillar, mad hatter, red queen, tweedledee/dum, etc.) and events ("off with their heads," painting the roses, croquet game, etc.) The last scene is just more of the same.

The songs by Petty from 94 was about the last time I can recall where an older artist most known from the 70s/80s was able to pull another 2-3 solid/well-played songs out of their hat ("It's Good To Be King" and "Last Dance With Mary Jane" other songs from 94ish by Tom). Aerosmith was the other obvious example of that around that early 90s period with "What It Takes" and the other songs from the year 90 and the 93/4ish tracks "Amazing", "Crazy", "Cryin", "Livin On The Edge". And also re-releasing "Sweet Emotion" w/ a current video and making it a hit the 2nd time around. Aerosmith came back more times than Jason Voorhes. Common link? Actual talent. Sorry to yell at clouds, but musicians had more of the T word in those days than they do today, especially in the pop/rock area.

It was rare. I remember being happy for them to have hits on the radio again. Their music was never “in style” but I think his 90’s output fit well with the music of the time, DMB, Hootie & the Blowfish, and acoustic ting Crows.

@@chrisa4695 Agreed. Alt and grunge seemed to appeal more to older rock acts than young guys like Dave Grohl realized back then. Their music had more of a punk ethos or lineage, but it was still vital music and it was still ROCK music at its core -- and it wiped away all the hairband Poison stuff. I remember the late 80s and that crap was thick. Warrant, Slaughter, Poison, etc. A band like Pearl Jam was the kind that an old dude like Neil Young could hang with. As far as Petty, he was still cool even then. His songs from 94 were still good enough that they would've been hits in the 80s, too.

The Eagles are a good example of a blend of country and rock also. You guys should really look up the video of him doing Learning to Fly with Stevie Nicks backing him up and they are both old as dirt. That ones incredibly enjoyable. I'm a huge TP fan, he's easily my fav "rocker" and his catalog is huge! This particular album is different yet amazing. I read once that he wrote songs from this album while smoking j's and playing guitar while sitting on a pile of junk tires at a buddies house...and the songs seem to paint that picture for me.

In this episode of Brad & Lex, "sways" definitely ensue promptly as the "Petty" percussionist pats the backs of the couch companions before releasing nurturing yet direct and straight forward messaging that is received from Lex, then given back in the form of sincere vibey "benchwarmer bops" followed by touching insight. Mr Petty's soothing vocal harmonies stabilize Brad's noddy "sway". Itching breathing and walking will become topical somehow.

A commercial song with a chorus about weed was pretty wild stuff in 1994. This was the opening single from Wildflowers snd some radio stations played a clean edit instead, with the altered line “Let’s HIT another joint” as in, let’s go to another bar.

Hi guys, Tom petty and the Heartbreakers is one of those bands that every song is great. You honestly can't go wrong with any song by them. I Had the privilege of seeing them in Madison WI in 2005? They could change up a song on the spot and just jam on it, Tom also knew how to be a great front man and make it feel like he was performing for only you.

Great song and reaction! Lungs expanding and contracting means lots of good oxygen! That’s a close one to me, as “you don’t know how it feels to be me”! It’s unbelievable of how scary it is not being able to breathe! Had a double lung transplant Aug 31, 2020 and I always think about breathing and encouraging folks not to not smoke if they have the will, or just plain taking care of your body! Most get through life without these difficulties, but you never know when something dramatic can change your life forever! I had fibrosis from an autoimmune disease and it wasn’t from smoking, just saying to take care of the ole’ lungs! Everyone please enjoy the day, it could be worse!

She listens with her whole body, like we did when this was new. I never heard of stoner rock, but that wouldn't be it. Zepplin or Pink floyd more like it

I feel Brad on this one. It's actually really common for me to wake up and not realize I was dreaming. It feels so vivid, and it can take all day for me to shake it or realize it was a dream. I have legit got angry with people for what they did to me in a dream before. It feels so real to me, as if I live two seperate lives at times. My dreams are just a way for past people in my life to exist.

Brad just hit me with that comment about confusing a memory and a dream. That happens to me too. It feels totally real. Psychologists must spend years coming up with fancy words and phrases to make this kind of thing expensive to talk about.
My favorite thing about this song is that it reminds me of when I was studying really old blues music. I mean like Mississippi Delta stuff. It's clean by comparison and modern in its' production value but it honors its' parent so obviously that I can't help but love it.

The first, and in my opinion best, “Stoner Rock” band is “Sleep”. Their best album is ‘Sleep’s Holy Mountain’. I suggest their song ‘Dragonaut’ as a first listen. The bands “Acid King’ and ‘The Sword’ are my other two favorite “Stoner Rock” bands. I suggest the Acid King album ‘Busse Woods’ and The Sword album ‘Age Of Winters’, for your first time listening.
Some people think (the) Melvins are. “Stoner Rock”, and consider them the first “Stoner Rock” band. But (the) Melvins are in a category all their own, and quite possibly my favorite band. I saw them live for the first time in 1989, and have seen them live the most out of any other band; probably close to 40 times.
