Alanis is “baring” her emotions, her vulnerability, just like she is naked: she’s decided not to hide anymore, her emotions is naked.
Well said 👍
Yes, accepting an imperfect world, with its pains and struggles, and her own imperfections; is better than hiding from life, waiting for it to get better.
@@s.mcpherson6354 exactly that.
Do you wanna see my fat belly? 😂
Simple as that. Well said.
You are right on Brad. After the success of Jagged Little Pill her world completely changed. She went to India to gain her balance back.
And to breathe the pollution.
She went to India to do some soul searching and became a Buddhist. She credits it with saving her.
Ruined her
@@CoboProdz not.
@@FleagleSangria I love her floaty abstract music (more than her edgy stuff too)
Buddhism is the tool that will bring peace and love this planet. Eventually
Yeah, especially all she could swallow from Dave Coulier
In an interview with MTV,
“Basically, I had never stopped in my whole life, hadn’t taken a long breath, and I took a year and a half off and basically learned how to do that. When I did stop and I was silent and I breathed… I was just left with an immense amount of gratitude, and inspiration, and love, and bliss, and that’s where the song came from, you know.”
- Alanis Morissette
Stopping till the point of stillness, requires at least 50% not doing. It's when you realize that nothing is really happening and you can relax and build strength for when you need it. Such a wise choice, going to India. At such a young age to make that decision. That's probably why she can still make a decent living through live performances. She's taking care of herself. Right on!
The more you listen to Alanis Morissette, the more it makes sense that Kevin Smith casted her as God in Dogma. She just has that otherworldly quality.
My favorite movie🙂 She was fun in the role.
Yup and speaking of Dogma they should check out the song Still from her and that movie
Damn Brad got it all at the end. HE was spot on.. She DID go to India for a soul searching trip after her first album (Which was more angsty and angry) and her being naked in the video was showing her vulnerability and being finally comfortable in her own skin.
BAM. Spot on.
*THIS*
'"Jagged Little Pill" was her third album, not her first. But yeah, she went to India to find balance in her life.
🎯
Simply put, Brad's in love, lol
I think this is a song about coming off the road for jagged little pill tour and being so disillusioned with the industry it was affecting her health hence the opening line. She went to India for a spiritual retreat to get her mental and physical health back in order.
I really think the magic of this album is that you're listening to a young woman that has fully accepted her thoughts, emotions, and most importantly herself. To accept your emotions whether good or bad is a realization saved for middle age adults. It's quite fascinating to see someone put down in lyrics this life transition. For one to accept their faults, insecurities, perception of self is really rare. It's a very open and honest album and it's one of the reasons it was so successful. Most people can spot fakeness. Alanis is not fake.
Lex, your infatuation with Alanis is super endearing! You got it, this song is about appreciating frailty and vulnerability and knowing that those are things that make us who we are! Great job guys!
Lex is infatuated? You mean Brad! lol! Go watch thier other Alanis vids and you'll see what I mean. He's practically obsessed!
Brad is definitely infatuated, which Lex seems totally cool.with! And Lex seems to enjoy the music for sure as well!
I think this was the first single off her follow up album to the smash hit album "Jagged Little Pill". If I remember correctly, after she became a superstar, she took a trip to India to kind of "decompress" or whatever. So, Brad, I think you are right about that. And, yes, Alanis is amazing!
...I had a bit of an infatuation with Alanis back when this came out....I would listen to it and weep, I so hated getting older...and I was younger then than now..I have come to terms.
@@raymo6795 As long as you don't become one of those bitter old folks you'll be fine.
Brad nailed it. Awesome! She did go to India, she did do all those things he said. He's got the lyrics, great job. This is one of my all-time favorite songs of any genre. I was worried that watching the video was going to detract from the song and the lyrics cuz other reactions I've seen all people do is keep saying she's naked she's naked. Good to see you guys are mature enough to not let it make you miss out on a great song and a great video.
She became a kind of a self-righteous hippie, which is a bummer having enjoyed her music when her anger and disillusionment was the soul of it. Hope she found her peace, though!
@@svenpoletka5236 Yes, such a shame she's happy now.
@@macsfe9828 Please don't be such an amber. Like I said, good for her and just miss her musical talent.
@@svenpoletka5236 She didn't lose her musical talent, it was just her style that changed. If anything, her vocals became more complex and powerful after Jagged Little Pill came out. Thank you and Uninvited are two songs that demonstrate her growth in vocal skill.
@@sbird8675 Are people saying she lost her musical talent? That's just awful!
Brad’s smile when she starts singing 🥰 For me it’s how she can make men relate to her point of view ❤️
Alanis Morissette is indeed amazing , the best female artist of the 90´s, and thats a fact!
Fiona Apple and Tori Amos are in that conversation too. The 90s just had an embarrassing glut of talent in every genre.
Celine and Shania too
Brad & Lex, 4 Alanis songs in 16 days, you keep going!!
Soon he can actually play the full Jagged Little Pill album and a playlist of hers just because he wants to. Keep going Brad. You win and we win. A good follow up to this one is "You Learn."
@@jco207 this song is from the album "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie."
Not being an a-hole. Just wanted to clarify. ✌️
No worries, I just meant Brad is going to like listening to Jagged Little Pill all the way through.
@@jco207 I really wish they would. Amazing album ! IMO. 👍✌️
This was the first release of the album that followed Jagged Little Pill. She took time off after the JLP tour and went to India to study Buddhism and Hinduism and came back with a much different feel to her music. Instead of anger and angst, it was full of hope and forgiveness and a hippy vibe. Her thank you to India was for giving her a different introspective.
Which for my money is a better album than her first. Mind you, her first album is huge... Her 2nd Album is still on my phone...still listen to it time and again
I think Brad is a Alanis fan. She is an awesome singer and songwriter.
..and water is wet ... ;)
Lol yah I think he's hooked!
I think he has reacted to half of Jagged Little Pill.
33 MILLION
Jagged Little Pill was a worldwide commercial success, topping the charts in thirteen countries. With sales of over 33 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling albums of all time and made Morissette the first Canadian to achieve double diamond sales
Alanis is a well respected legend since she was a kid. Acting and music for decades now. She's influenced many new modern singers too. RIP, Taylor Hawkins he was her drummer before, then with Foo Fighters.
Her whole band back then were top notch pros.
Stop it, maybe in Canada she got respect for those mall pop dance albums but nobody in the states, or anywhere else, knew of her until Jagged Little Pill. Then she was an icon.
@@FURTHER_ADO Jaja. I forgot about that. She was doing dance pop music like Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and others back then, late '80s, early '90s. I guess just the Canadians, teen teenybopper girls in the US, other countries, and Nicholodean followers (started her acting career there) enjoyed her earlier albums.. Before she ventured off to alternative rock in the mid 1990s and after.
@@jkbezo1 I'll say though, whenever the topic is Influentual 90s Artists people always seems to say a dozen singer before her until I bring her up bc, though her style and genre weren't my bag, I'd argue she's in the Top 5 Most Important Singers of the 90s overall and most important woman singer of the decade by far.
I remember after JLP every female pop, rock and even country singers all had tried to sound more like her, be it just a small amount or full on Alanis knock offs and it went for a few years.
Respect is not the right word, for sure. She had an audience. lol
She probably visited India and saw the poverty. Thank you India, thank you terror, thank you disillusionment. She learns from negative feelings. And how to turn it around. She has other songs with that same theme. I think Brad nailed it.
It had little or nothing to do with poverty. She became a Buddhist there. It's pretty clearly referenced in the song's final verse.
I think I've never seen Brad smiling so much before!!! Keep enjoying Alanis, bro!!!🤘🏽
Right
He is smitten!
It’s so cool seeing him totally like something
Well done, Brad. You’re spot on.
As amazing as she is, I still feel she's underappreciated. That voice is so pure and perfect. "Thank you, thank you silence" is the best part of the song!
She was HUGE in the 90s. Definitely not underappreciated, her prime is just over.
I think it's as simple as her thanking the experiences and emotions that have made her who she is. I see it as an acceptance of trauma and choosing to own it instead of letting it continue to traumatize.
This song is about her journey into Enlightnement. Getting past all the negative emotions...terror, frailty, dillusionment, elusive praise (kudo's) and the fear of death... and finding the "clarity" and "silence" that comes through meditation (Thank you India) that allows one to fully appreciate the here and now (how 'bout me enjoying the moment for once), which leads to finding the Divine Love we all have inside of us (How 'bout remembering your Divinity) and being overwhelmed by its beauty (How 'bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out) and finally seeing life (Thank You Providence) in a way you never imagined before (as in the "All seeing eye of Providence"... on the back of a ONE dollar bill!).
The BIG clue is in the "Bridge" of the song,
"The moment I let go of it" (negative emotions) "Was the moment I got more than I could handle" (Enlightenment, and the overwhelming experience that comes with it) "The moment I jumped off of it" (A leap of faith) "Was the moment I touched down." (Finding her True self). She draws special attention to this passage in her video as well because she stops signing the words.
She wrote this song because everyone that has expereinced this (Enlightenment) wants to share it with others so that they will find their own path to Enlightenment, too.
It is funny to watch Brad's face during Alanis reactions. Normally he is very analytic so you can see the deep thought on his face. Though when watching Alanis she causes him to randomly smile. As others stated she is actually wearing a nude colored body suit.
Easily one of the most expressive and intriguing voices of the last 30 years!
I’ve always liked Alanis, but would never put her on my favorites lists. Having said this she is absolutely brilliant and I got the opportunity to see her a few years back at one of the casino’s in Connecticut. She was awesome. She sang her ass off, her band was packed with top notch musicianship, and she told a lot of anecdotes that told pieces of her story in a way that made her totally relatable. Also, she was the perfect choice to play God at the end of Dogma.
I appreciate Brad letting his enthusiasm shine thru on this one! Usually Brad, you're the cool lowkey one, & we appreciate Lex for her genuine & unbounded reactions. But on this one we can just hear & see your appreciation for Alanis.
You said this is the first time you heard this one--I'm gonna guess it's the 5000th time for me. Canadian white girl coming of age at the same time as Alanis, & her music spoke to me on a daily basis for abt 5 years. Good times!
Love you two, love spending time with you & hearing your thoughts & reactions. All the best in 2024!!!
crying unabashedly... that's me every fkn day lol. and yes i too thank mother earth, cosmos, all my relations, brothers and sisters.. for this life and path... alanis always gets it right.
Listen y'all, Alanis has brought out a depth in Brad I just didn't see coming.
Brad's inspiring me to be a better listener!
I think she's thanking things that have made her grow. When she's saying thank you terror, I think she means fear, things that torment her, not a terror attack. Thanking India, is probably because she went there, and it helped her evolve somehow.
Brad totally gets Alanis 👏🏻
I like all of her songs, the video for You Learn is my favorite and my favorite song from Jagged Little Pill album. Interesting reaction her nickname was Alanis So Upset , LOL ✌️
Nothing more pure than the look on Brad's face while he's reacting to Alanis. Sheer curious fascination! Gotta do Jagged Little Pill!!!
She's on tour.... Get on it Brad & Lex!!!
I saw her last Sept....I am so glad I went.....
@@TheRealSweetcherryo We'll be seeing her this Aug! Can't wait!
The song highlights all that is bad in the world for us to be thankful for the positive things in our lives. Alanis sought enlightenment from yoga, meditation and a trip to India. Its a song of atonement and renewed perspective.
I love Alanis. Please do “Head over feet”, “You learn”, or “You outta know”. All great songs. She’s so talented.
They already did "You Oughta Know".
“All I really want”!!!
See Right Through You is another great one
Head over feet is a good choice
It's still hard to believe how many hit singles she had off Jagged Little Pill
Alanis Morissette spent well over a year touring and promoting her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, which burned her out physically and emotionally. For the next year and a half, she took a lot of time off to decompress and re-evaluate. "Thank U" is her reaction to the conflicted feelings she had after achieving success.
In her VH1 Storytellers appearance, she explained: "I felt that I lived in a culture that told me that I had to consistently and constantly look outside myself to feel this elusive bliss. And I achieved a lot of what society had told me to achieve and I still didn't feel peaceful. I started questioning everything, and I realized that actually everything was an illusion and it was scary for me because everything I had believed in was dissolving in front of me and there was a death of sorts, a really beautiful one ultimately, but at first a very scary one, and so I stopped. I stopped for the first time and I was overcome with a huge sense of compassion for myself first, and then naturally that translated into my feeling and compassion for everyone around me and a huge amount of gratitude that I had never felt before to this extent. And that's why I had to write this song, 'Thank U,' because I had to express how exciting this was and how scary it was and all of these opportunities for us to define who we are."
Disillusionment, frailty and silence are among the things and feelings Morissette thanks in this song, but at the top of her list is India, where she spent time in 1997. The trip was enlightening and gave her some of the ideas for this song.
The video shows Alanis singing naked in the middle of an empty city street. Her hair covers her breasts and her crotch was digitally obscured to keep it family friendly. A city block had to be shut down to shoot the video. She recalled to Q magazine in 1999: "We were on the streets of downtown LA two nights in a row. It was pretty cold. We had to use a little bit of latex so I wouldn't get arrested because apparently if you're fully naked on the street anywhere in America... jail. Some people would go by and stop, but it was three or four in the morning, so it was quiet. I wanted to express where the song came from which was to be really empowered by being vulnerable and not being apologetic."
Alanis has won 26 awards for her amazing performances and song writing including 7grammys best rock album best rock song best female artist!
It's awesome that Brad is a legit Alanis fan now. I got a lot shit back in the day for liking her and now I feel somehow redeemed.
Every Alanis Morissette song sounds like her just writing down the notes from a appointment with her Psychiatrist. Then putting them to music.
Ah... Alanis' enlightenment. Thank You for the bad things, as they make the good things be appreciated even more.
Live your life in happiness no matter all the things you and the world encounter.
Today we watch Brad fanboying again over Alanis and Lex eyeing his reactions to see if he's not enjoying himself too much. 😂
Hello from Canada!! Just for fun, you should check out her earlier stuff - I remember one "hit" called Too Hot from 1991. It was a dancey type song, before she really came into her own and found her signature sound. Way different than what you have seen so far. She became her true artist self when she released Jagged Little Pill in my opinion.
Brad you NAILED IT. Alanis suffered from deep depression in her early years. She went on a spiritual trip to India to find herself and to heal mentally. She wrote "Thank you" as a thank you to all of the things, place, and people that helped take her pain away. Alanis is a practicing Buddhist.
Brad on the top of his game. Nice one
She is an Angel
I loved the hearts over Brad’s eyes on the previous video. I expected it to happen again, lol.
She is one of those singers that can really move you. She can drill into both her and your emotions.
From 1st grade till now 34 y/o and still crushing on Alanis. The way she throws her voice around and facial movement singing is such beautiful thing.
This is true talent. Thanks Alanis Morissette 🙏. A gift to let everyone know that everyone is brilliant. Rare and I'll say needed. Great guess Brad in my opinion your spot on. Look at you go brother.😁 If I was asked is there a reason for whatever I'd have to say yes now. Cheers Brad and Lex 👍
Brad nailed this one! It's always really satisfying when that happens, for some reason.
A really beautiful voice on a really beautiful lady,
She's baring her soul and thanking everything that got her to where she is
And when she started, no one thought she could be successful... she made herself without letting go to the establishment.. She's awesome for NOT giving up!
Bread nailed it. And she will always have those Irish keening vocalisms as part of her singing which makes it interesting but I love how she can totally wail and yet it's still pure and clear.. I've heard this song many times but I've never seen the video. And all I'm seeing is a really tiny thumbnail on my phone but I got the impression that it was supposed to be like a mask over herself like we so often wear but she's telling you what's real with the singing.
I can't speak to Alanis's childhood, but I do know she was involved in show biz from a young age and had a teenage dance-pop kinda album that didn't do well. I can't imagine either experience would've helped with the insane success of JLP, which itself is quite an expression of rage and cynicism and, to some degree, depression (brutal breakup behind all that, too). That sort of thing can really mess a young person up, as we've seen much too often.
That she managed to find what appears to be at least some healthy serenity and peace, that then enabled her further tremendous artistic development, is all too rare of an occurrence, and one I think we're all glad she achieved, whether you're a fan of her work or not.
Haha. Brad is like a teenager in these Alanis reactions!
I love how Lex gets the vibe right off the bat (no matter the words...) Brad needs a moment to put it all together, ( but when he does, it's super sweet
One of my favorite Alanis songs. Please react to Hands Clean and Head Over Feet ❤
that noise you are referring to is usually called a "vocal break" often used in yodelling..... it is a quick transition from one vocal register to another.
Be carful Lex I’m thinking Brad has a crush I feel that emotion 😍
She is so beautiful in every way
Brad knows exactly where she came from!
I'm sure someone already explained but she is talking about all things,. good and bad that has made her who she is. For instance,. she had an inspiring trip to India,. then,. in the same line she is thanking 'terror' for some hard realities she evidently had to face? This is simply what I have found out doing research upon taking this trip with AM with you guys. My room mate use to listen to her but me being a 'metal head',. I never did. I am opening up my musical genre range in my old age,. glad I am. Along with Tatiana from Jinger, she is now one of my fav female vocalist just because of the uniqueness of her voice,. THANK YOU Brad and Lex for taking this journey with me and discovering artist that I would have never listened to otherwise. LEX I just heard you saying that you like the way she moves her mouth while she sings! I NOTICED and agree! I believe that helps her with the uniqueness of her voice in pronunciations and different pitch, etc. Regardless I find it to be a cool trait and is adorable.
Alanis was and is such a beautiful soul. She was what coming of age in the 90's was all about
Alanis Morrissette is God. I love the movie “Dogma”. 😂
Was just going to comment this. The entire movie is actually uploaded on UA-cam right now because you can’t find it on any streaming service to rent or purchase. And DVD hard copies were going used on Amazon and eBay for over $100 because of it. Because Weinstein wouldn’t release the rights before his incident so now it’s held in purgatory. Huge bummer because it’s a great movie.
@@chadd3299 I was aware that it wasn’t available, but I must have been only half paying attention, because I didn’t remember why until you said it.
I wish I still had the DVD case. I still have the disc, but it’s in a binder due to my now wife and I merging collections.
this is a beautiful song, very emotional for me. I appreciate how she just lays it all out there, for herself. Wish i could do the same, and maybe will do when i get the same courage as alanis. one of my favorites, EVER!
You got it Brad, she's 'baring' her emotions, and reflecting on the circumstances that formed her. Try YOU LEARN from her Jagged Little Pill album (1995), just as good and better.
Dang Brad... You felt the connection to her purpose of this song and nailed it. Incredible.
So love her. Since day one. And Brad always gets that grin with her
"Unsent" is my favorite Alanis song, gives me shivers every single time
It may be out there but you got it exactly right !! Good job Brad!!!
She's giving thanks to all the things she's experienced in life, like when she went to india to pay homage, it affected her soul. Its a truly beautiful song.. Love your Reactions! You two Rawk❣️
Love the deep thoughts by Brad. Awesome interpretation. Many people did not like Alanis back in the day despite her amazing voice and creativity. I guess they didn't like her honesty. Not sure.
I bought Jagged Little Pill when it came out, I was in high school. Great album, but “Ironic” was played everywhere to no end. I got really sick of it and didn’t pay attention to much she did afterwards.
A few years ago I was going through a pretty rough period in my personal life. I heard this song and just lost it. I ended up listening to it on repeat and crying my eyes out. It has deeply spiritual meaning to me, as I’m sure it does for Alanis. I’ve really found a new appreciation for her as an artist and a human.
Brad, you nailed it. I lived in India for a few years and studied yoga and meditation. Where I was taught, an ashram ,that focused on losing your ego as Alanis demonstrates in the video. No makeup,no cloths and no ego. Alanis reserved the whole compound where I stayed, for her and friends who came with her. India is a county you need to experience by living in it and not read about it. By the time I arrived Alanis had left the ashram. It was kind of cool to know that she had stayed there.
Alanis Morissette-Right Through You All I Really Want-Alanis Morissette Alanis Morissette-You Learn Alanis Morissette-Everything Alanis Morissette-Precious Illusions Alanis Morrisette-Your House Acapella
This song is about transcendental meditation as practiced in Buddhism. She is thanking all she has learned from the practice of TM. Living in the moment, letting go, the clarity she has found, the belief that "everything is nothing and nothing is everything", and silence. She is thanking disillusionment because living a life of illusion is not reality. And all of these practices were "founded", if you will, in India. Brilliant song.
The emotional headspace between this song and "You Oughta Know" is quite something.
Checkmate 2022 charts. I challenge any artist in the charts today to write a song like Alanis did here and then perform it live without any pitchcorrect or autotune. They cant, none of them. To think songs like these where in the charts I'm so glad I grew up back then in the 80's and 90's with parrents listening to music from the 60's and 70's. I cant imagine being in my 20's in 2022 with the barren overproduced sonic garbageof the last 2 decades as a musical upbringing. So sad but you guys give a glimmer of hope as I see your joy when hearing music from the heart with real instruments and a real emotional message. Stay this course!
Bang on, Brad. Got the lyrics in one.
Introspection, meditation, contemplation.
Forgive yourself, forgive someone else. All that emotional baggage just weighs on the soul.
Along the journey you can find yourself again.
This song gives me chills
She’s always great!
Can you do a song from my favourite female singer+band? They’re called Florence + The Machine. And one of The most EPIC live bands in the last years. Great song (to start with 😉) would be Dog Days Are Over.
Greets!
I really LOVE Florence + The Machine's acoustic version of Cosmic Love.
Yes please! I love them. Shake It Out is also amazing.
On yeah, they should definitely do Florence & The Machine. Fantastic voice.
Ooh yes, they would love Florence's voice, Brad especially!
I think Brad will like Lisa Loeb. Same era, but she's got a kind of nerdy, mousey, vulnerable vibe. Alanis was on a Nickelodeon show before her music career kicked off. I think it was "You Can't Do That On Television". When she began her music career, she started off with dance/pop, before going "adult contemporary".
Interestingly this song is from her followup album to Jagged Little Pill and was actually considered somewhat of a flop since it "only" sold a few million copies instead of 20 million or whatever JLP sold 😂
When Jagged a Little Pill took off, it took off by storm. She was an overnight sensation and it was a lot on her. After her tour, she went to India to do some soul searching and found her peace. Being naked is showing her vulnerability and her becoming raw during her soul searching, which is what this song is about.
Brad nailed it! Love this song
Her phrasing is so unique it’s phenomenal.
Just watched some of your reactions to Alanis, thanks very much!
I was one of the listeners back when who were grabbed by her first album.
Like with many artist it's hard to follow up, when you're "praised into heaven", as they say in Dutch.
Everyone has their own favorite songs from that first album: to me the most precious one was "Mary Jane"; another one which is not played enough is "Right though you". It would be great if you would react to those songs.
Warm regards from the Netherlands!
I love how Brad's face lights up when he hears her voice, but you can see his it in his face he is trying to figure out what her lyrics are about! You guys are the best! You are sooo honest!
This song makes me weep every time I hear it. Sheer perfection.
An amazing song about her dealing with the fame and stress that came out of Jagged Little Pill. Such a beautiful woman, voice and personality. Love your reactions, you tube has a great documentary on her.
Great reaction as usual, I loved watching Brad put the pieces together and enjoy Alanis live! Alanis owned Canada for 2 summers! Jagged Little Pill was so epic in Canada, we all went on our Alanis phase of contempt. She caught us all off guard with her raw emotion. I love her music
“You learn” is a must
Real life feelings expressed by her in her songs for the world to hear. I couldn’t do it.
Brad's "out there guess" is pretty spot on. Nobody is prepared to go from relative obscurity to having an album sell 33,000,000 copies. Jagged Little Pill was just a whirlwind. And the record companies just wanted her to do more tours, more interviews, more events... all for more fame and fortune. That's the "transparently dangling carrots". But to avoid a nervous breakdown she had take a break. She had equated "stopping" with "death". As if taking a break from her career meant that it would all disappear.
Happy to hear more reactions to songs other than JLP. I think her later songs are more mature; more beautiful. Not too many you would hear very often on the radio.
My recommendation would be "Not as We" about her breakup with Ryan Reynolds. Or "Guardian".
Or watch "Ablaze". From The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Her husband was watching the boys while Alanis sang the song while holding her daughter. The song is about her children, so it was fitting. And made me cry. It was just so cute.
She is a great singer and a beautiful woman.
Brad: "The streak continues".... Pun intended, Brad? 🙂. Butt, yes. I remember when Jagged Little Pill came out and my wife bought the album and I quickly found myself listening to it myself.
There is a lot of meaning in this song. She thanks India because she wrote this song after visiting the country and it helped her deal with a lot of issues she was having at the time. Overall it's just that she was thankful for all the negative things that had happened to her to prepare her to actually enjoy having success and positive things happen to her. She is naked in the video to show her vulnerability.
Facts! Alanis wrote this song after spending 1 1/2 years in India. After she blew up here in the states she was really overwhelmed with the fame, feelings of loss, how the business treated her, how she was disillusioned with what fame brought her and stuff so she took a sabbatical. Because of this she wrote this to thank India for the experience that put her career life back onto a more focused track. She's also thanking the feelings and experiences she was dealing with. For without them she would not have grown as a person. It's an awesome song.
Btw. She used to be a pop singer in Canada before changing genres and then blowing up worldwide.
love the raw review the story behind the video is intense. she for sure is being venerable. after jagged little pill dropped she was through into success right away it was I believe her first album and it freaked her out. she left to India because she freaked out and wanted to stay humble and give back. she called and was about to talk to mother Theresa sadly mother Theresa died the next day. for sure about meditation and spirituality, and staying grounded and not being jaded by success. im explaining it all wrong highly recommend just reading her story. its wow.
