The goal of this format is to find a popular song that the drummer hasn't heard before. We put the band’s name in the video title so it’s easier for fans of the band and people interested in music to know what the video is about. While every video is different (and yes, sometimes the drummer has never even heard of the band at all), you will always be able to see which specific song the drummer is going to be learning in the video description.
We put these videos together in order, as they happen in the Drumeo studio to give you the most transparent look into every drummer's creative process. Samus' episode was particularly interesting because his learning process was different from every other drummer who's participated in the format so far.
I hope you enjoy the episode!

I enjoyed this very much and love this format because I want to develop my abilities to do this as well. Although I want to play true to the originals I also like seeing how else they can sound with similar or completely different styles. I especially liked the one where ya'll had something to do with movie tracks/scores made on the fly too these have helped me exponentially! Thanks Brandon, Samus and Drumeo. Picking up my double bass pedal this week.

Reinforcing @matheuscastro6989's comment and not joking about it: there are many videos out there about pagode bands in Brazil (a genre close to samba), where one of the folks from the band keeps giving hints about what will happen next, in a separate audio track, that only the people from the band can listen to. He/she is a kind of conductor .. also playing some instrument but coordinating the band (which sometimes is relatively numerous and plays many many songs in a single show). I can watch those videos for hours .. very interesting.

@@rodeoburger I will say that the main benefit Larnell had with the jazzier chart (not counting Enter Sandman bc that's way too straightforward) was that it was VERY similar to the classic chart "Spain" by Chick Corea (even the title, "Chick's Pain", sounds like "Chick Spain" and gives a pretty big hint). Larnell's a super accomplished jazz/fusion drummer/percussionist and would absolutely be familiar with "Spain", so his active listening was mostly just seeing which parts differed from the original and how. The following quote is from Samus' video (ua-cam.com/video/zBRcUok_UsY/v-deo.html) talking about the reason for this - "You might be wondering why I'm wearing a mask. I have what's called an IGA deficiency. Long story short, I get sick very easily and I still have to be extremely careful in public. You'll also notice that the Drumeo staff are going to be wearing masks to. They did that just for me. They were very accommodating for me and I am super thankful to them for doing that."

This is my 4th time watching this already. The more I watch it the more my mind is blown. He plays DOZENS of drum fills, and as far as I can tell, all of them are different. Like hearing the audio ques for him in real time was actually eye opening to see a non mathmatical/paper read, come through, and show us that one can truly make their own path in a ocean with big waves to fill. I think I might try this eventually whenever I get back into drumming, there's also a little motivation from yourself in there, your communicating with the past you.
