I've never been what anyone would call an active listener to lyrics, so I never noticed that this was about getting cheated on. And this song is, what? 26 years old? You learn something new every day...
When you did the live stream the other day I tipped a few times. I requested Band Testament. Song Return to Serenity. I think you will enjoy it. The band created what we call a rock ballad. Tom is a legend. I grew up to his music. He did it just as well live on stage.
Every song is my favourite Tom Petty song. Not popular songs. Apartment song,, Your so bad. I can't choose. Love You got Lucky. Have almost everything he's ever done. Thanks for making me smile.
Please do some of his older stuff now : "The Waiting" "Here Comes My Girl" "Refugee" "American Girl" "Breakdown" "Don't Do Me Like That" "You Got Lucky" You have now done some late 80s and early 90s. Time to check out some of his older stuff now 😋
You Wreck Me, Listen to Her Heart, American Girl, Running Down A Dream, Into The Great Wide Open, Yer So Bad, I Won’t Back Down, I Need to Know, MaryJane’s Last Dance, his collection is amazing! I saw him in the late 90’s & then when he did the live Superbowl Show in AZ (NY Giant fan!)... was awesome!
I remember when the song came out, MTV and radio stations did not like the 'roll another joint' line. The edit was 'hit another joint' and/or 'roll another (mumble)'. 'Free Fallin''' is my personal fave from Tom Petty. 'Runnin' down a Dream' is a great song too.
I could genuinely listen to Tom Petty all day...and often do. Wildflowers, Echo, and Southern Accent are some of the most gorgeous songs ever written. God, I miss his voice.
Tom Petty had many great songs "Last Dance With Mary Jane" is another one you'll love, He uses the harmonica in it aswell. Also there's "Refugee", "Learning To Fly", "Won't back down", and "Free Falling", & "You got lucky" are others
Damn! I forget how freakin great Tom Petty really is! Awesome reaction Jovaughn! You just have to kick back with Tom & drown in his music, 'You Got Lucky' is one of my favs. Thanks for the smiles! 😁💖
Definitely a masterpiece my friend! Tom Petty is one of my favorite artists from the 70s/80s. The man was multi talented and happen to be taken too soon from us! Rip Tom.
Love all that weird crap going on in the background, LOL...yeah, Tom had a great career with the Heartbreakers, solo, and the Traveling Wilbury's. Deep rabbit hole on this guy! Left us way too soon.
You Don’t Know How it Feels was released in 1994 on Tom’s second studio solo album, Wildflowers. On some releases of the song as a single, the artist was credited as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers instead of just Tom Petty solo. The song hit #98 on the Australian charts, #3 on the Canadian charts, #119 on the UK Charts, #13 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #22 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart, #8 on the American Top 40 and it hit #1 on the US A,bum Rock charts. Another great song that features harmonica is Mary Jane’s Last Dance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
I love how psyched you are about his harmonica playing! It’s such a badass instrument and way underrated! Ok I just got to that part where you said you want one. That’s what I’ve been planning to send you for Christmas!!! Just wait a few weeks!!
There are SO many good Tom Petty songs. You Got Lucky Mary Jane's Last Dance Don't Come Around Here No More Refugee The Waiting Even if you don't have time to react to them all you definitely need to check him out. He's one of my favorite artists.
"Breakdown" is my favorite one and the first one I heard from him. "It's alright if you love me, It's alright if you don't", is one hell of a line. Take care Jay.
I grew up on Tom Petty -- Free Fallin' is the first song I knew all the words to. My favorites are The Waiting, You Got Lucky, Wildflowers, Into the Great Wide Open, Here Comes My Girl, and everything he did with the Traveling Wilburys!
He has so many hits. Even his B-Sides are great. I recommend, as many have, "Refugee." It was my first (and still favorite) song I have listened to by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Even the chipmunks covered that song!
I should mention how he owned a house overlooking the ocean in a beautiful part of northern California where I used to live. My friend ran into him at the grocery store and reported that he was totally friendly and down to earth like you might have expected. Rather than quit when he broke his hip on his last tour he soldiered on with pain killers to finish like a hero, not realizing they would cost him his life. RIP Tom, you left us with so much good music !!
I was lucky enough to have seen Tom at least once in concert. His lyrics are very approachable. I'm glad you see why people wanted you to react to him. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
My 3 favorite Petty songs (each of which I of course recommend for a reaction!) are "American Girl", "Refugee", and "The Waiting". "Even the Losers" is good too.
Hey what about Petty, Dylan, G Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison (Traveling Wilburys)? Bet all of them play a mean harmonica 😁. Let's hear something from any or all of them!
Shared on FB. All my old geezer friends are gonna love this! Other great Tom Petty hits: American Girl. Free Falling. Breakdown. Don’t Do Me Like That. Here Comes My Girl. Refugees.
Watching this video takes me back over 20 years, first listening to Damn the Torpedoes on holiday in Cornwall and watching your reaction brought back that same feeling. Keep listening and I hope you enjoy the journey through Tom's discography as much as I have.
My admiration for Tom Petty grew bigger when he was with the Travelling Wilburys. This is a nice song, and I love your appreciation of music, JayveeTV 😘👌✌️
I'm so happy you did Tom Petty! This is such a great song, and Tom's songs are perfection. My absolute favourite is "Runnin' down a dream". You will not be disappointed. Jay, WELCOME ABOARD THE T.P. TRAIN !!! you gotta listen to YOU WRECK ME.....oh man, I'm a Tom Petty huge fan, saw him n 💔's live in the 80's, 90's, 00's AND 10's!!!! Man, his death really broke me RIP 🙏. He died for his fans, literally. He refused to cancel tours date with a broken hip at the age of 60+.....that's old school dedication 🎤🎸🎹🎵🎼🎧
One of my top five Tom Petty songs! Also, for some reason while watching your reaction, I thought of Michael Penn and his big hit "No Myth" -- highly recommend!
Bob Dylan was playing guitar & harmonica since the early '60s and he's still doing it. He toured with Petty in the '80s and they were in the Traveling Wilburys together with George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne.
Message to UA-cam. OK there may maybe copyright issues, but don't give these guys a hard time. They are waking the world up to a world of life affirming music to counter the flood of ignorant darkness engulfing us. They are spreading joy and hope! J keep doing what you're doing.
Hey JV! Thank you for this reaction! One of his best. I swear I'm gonna miss him forever. He was known for his outrageous music videos in the infancy of MTV. Isn't he fun to listen to?!!
Remember when this song came out on the radio... And it was " Lets get to the point LETS roll another [bleep] " Lets smoke another {bleep} REALLY?? WTF IS THE POINT?!? YA BLEEPED IT ALL OUT!! FRERDOM OF SPEECH ...alive& well... Yeah Right! PEACE&LOVE 💚✌
After listening again I noticed that he got cheated on. Anyways hey guys lol be sure to like, comment and share
