I feel that it may be a bit of a tall ask for a sequel to come out, given the overall kind of weird commercial status of the Might and Magic franchise as a whole and this game not really fitting that comfortably alongside the other games. Honestly, most of these old games can be run in higher resolution, and you can force your GPU to run AA and anisotropic filtering to clean up the image, on top of any mods that may add a small QoL adjustment. Every old PC game has had someone try and release a tool or adjustment to fix it up on github at some point. I really like the level design in this game. Returning to it after playing their later games, it feels like they had a very similar approach, building most of the levels to feel like real places, with the main difference being that they just had the player go through most of them in a straight line in Dark Messiah. Even when the level was clearly and obviously linear, I would often feel like I was just trying to find a path through a real place rather than walking in a straight line.

The bigegst drawback of having played this game so much is that sooo many later games (like skyrim for example) have felt completely lackluster in their combat systems...
eeeeeh it's a great game and still holds up, but it's pretty unique, certainly not a traditional bethesda rpg. i think the title is a bit unfortunate, more like a physics based first person action game. now that i think on it, it feels closer to doom 2016 or halflife than any actual rpg. anyway cheers.

Thank you for reminding me of that gem. Loved to play it at the time because of those chaotic fights and rather unique gameplay back then. Might wana give it another try 😁
I played this game the year it came out. I had saved up enough money from my first couple jobs to buy my first gaming pc and was so psyched to try this. And dang i loved it. I remember just being in awe of the visuals and physics at the time, and the big twist in the story had just enough foreshadowing that it made me feel clever to realize it juuuuust before the characters did. The undead were creepy, the beds of nails duct taped to every wall were always put to good use, and it was all around a good time!
I remember seeing this game in a gamer magazine that my high school English teacher used to have in his classroom. My first look into the fantasy RPG genre. I remember wanting this so bad, but then I found Oblivion, which thoroughly scratched the itch 😂
Omg this game! I played the free demo when I was about 14 and wanted the full game so bad but had no money! The mechanics and style was enthralling so much fun with the bow on the ledges shooting the little creepy goblins down. Thank you for bringing this game back to light

There's a fine line between a joke being "forced" or "cringe" and a joke being hilarious. Timing and delivery is IMO something you can work on but you still really need a natural talent for it which you have. Love all your content and it's just a matter of time before you really blow up, even though I've seen dramatic increases in your views since I started watching your videos around the time of the original SWTOR "movie". Keep it up and thanks for the great content.
Really appreciate that, thank you
Two things I remember most about this game: The amazingly fun fire mechanics, and the orcs shouting "Abomination!"
the Audio was exceptional in this game ... having an Soundblaster with EAX HD was truely a blast in Dark Messiah. Loved the Game so much ... its a rare gem ... like "Die by the Sword".
This is amazing. Modern rpgs need to step it up to create such fun gameplay again.
They won’t unless they let go of their open-world obsession
@@coltonlehnen6803pen world isnt an issue trying to make a large open world game quickly is the problem. They need to take their time or make smaller games. They also need to stop watering down every fkin genre for smoothbrains.

The Might and Magic series holds a special place in my heart. Love this series.
This was one of my ultimate favorite games, and the multiplayer changed my life. There's never been a similar more visceral multiplayer game where you can level up and spec into different talent trees during the match.
Is there still a multiplayer scene alive somewhere? I never got to play it multiplayer so I'm curious what that would be like.
Played this a bunch in my youth, loved it. Sadly it didn't get enough sales for the sequel they planned on.
I have been looking for this game title for years, best game I ever played, the nostalgia is real
This channel is GOLD!
So many good recommendations. Thanks for your hard work!
One of my favorite RPGs of old times, getting played again. I like to see this.
I had no idea going into this, that one of my favorite games was made by what would become one of my favorite studios (and I'm not actually a big dishonored fan lol).
God this game was great.
second video of yours i've seen and it's another gem i remember fondly, great videos too
Dark Messiah has been on my "to play" list for oh-so-many years... Along with Messiah! Will I ever get around to playing either game? Who can say?
man...2000s were incredible...every year, hardware games were changing so rapidly, you had to upgrade your pc very often to keep up...300mhz processor in 2000 became 1ghz like a year later...just incredible times
I remember reading the previews on this EGM or GamePro back in the day. It's really amazing that they were able to make these systems so functional back then. I'm thoroughly impressed!
Damn, back in the day, during school holidays, a friend went to his home country Belarus and came back with a cracked copy of the game. Didn't understand anything, the text was cyrillic, the voice English. But I had so much fun with the game 🤣 ah yeah good old times..
As I love this game I'd like to mention that it is in the same world as Heroes of might and magic 5, 6 and 7. SO if you played HOMM V you will see some familiar faces :D
I was sad about this game's ending, playing it right after heroes 5 tribes of the east and arantir was my favorite campaign hero
Best game ever made, I wish Skyrim had combat like that. My advice use cheat codes max all out get katana and play on hardest difficulty. Insane experience.
I love this game so much and I still can't believe it didn't do better.
Bro i saw this in one of TotalBiscuits videos (RIP) over a decade ago and I could not for the life of me find it, thank you!
I miss this game. It was one of my favorites.
Demon lady is so sexy.
It's on steam if you're looking to play it again
@@owlbear4928 Yeah, I own it. But I can only beat it so many times lol.
Hey hey people
This is one of my favourite games of all time. I'm still waiting for a game that has first person melee combat this good.
This video just made me want to go back and reinstall Dark Messiah and play it again. Played it years ago and loved it! Fantastic video and this game deserves a well done sequel!
Back when games were good and not just turds in shiny wrappers. This game was awesome, it even have different endings according to your choices. For me it was 10/10. 😁
It is usally just nostalgia. Imo there are actually more good games now than in that time cause of the indie game scene being much bigger now.
@@juanserra1720 Yer take those nostalgia goggles off. Just because there's a few bad games now doesn't mean they all are. There were PLENTY of awful games back then too. Stop acting like you're some superior being because you liked games from a certain era.
@@craigtrish2011Okay, I took my nostalgia goggles off. I still can't see the Diversity, Inclusion, Equity statements of 2006 companies.
Can't find Sweet Baby Inc. either. Did find the World Economic Forum, but everyone called me mad.
Dude, Your intro for the game had me pop over to the Game store to pick it up. Thanks!
God I love your content mitch, I played this game when it first came out and I fell in love with it. Though I never got to be able to play the multiplayer it still was an amazing game. It really was something so new unlike any game before and after that. I mean I've not played a game like it and I kinda miss it you know? Anyways THANK YOU for the content and keep on being brilliant mate!.
When that came out, I played through it once for every class and a few more times revisiting it a couple of years later. At the time I was very impressed with it, and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t more popular, with expansions following it.
Loved this from start to finish! A very memorable game with some fun mechanics.
Right on spot! Nice vid.
This was a fun game to play back in Uni. Ah the memories.
Elder Scrolls 6 's combat should be handled over to the developer of this game. They could do miracles with that.
Don’t forget the multiplayer, it was a ton of fun
This game is in my top 5 favorite games of all time. I picked it up blind from a bargain bin only a year after its release. It has been one of my favorites ever since.
This is an old favourite of mine and I just replayed it recently and still enjoy it just as much. Definitely one of the most underrated games ever made I think. And definitely the best combat for any game ever. I mean could imagine Oblivion and Skyrim having DM's combat? That would be amazing.
“Back foul temptress!”… oh I have new fun nickname to adopt.
This is hands down, one of the most important games in PC gaming history.
You have no idea how advanced the aspects of this game are. To do so many things years before any other game is a monumental feat.
One of my favorite games ever, i remember playing the demo for hours on end just goofing around with the awesome fight system. Completed the game sooo many times on hardest difficulty.
The bigegst drawback of having played this game so much is that sooo many later games (like skyrim for example) have felt completely lackluster in their combat systems...
best game ever played. way too short. the multiplayer was amazing. there never will be games like this again. the new generations have devolved.
Is there still multiplayer?
return to monke
this video unlocked the memory of playing this as a kid and gave me the name to the memories, thank you
eeeeeh it's a great game and still holds up, but it's pretty unique, certainly not a traditional bethesda rpg. i think the title is a bit unfortunate, more like a physics based first person action game. now that i think on it, it feels closer to doom 2016 or halflife than any actual rpg. anyway cheers.
super under rated! glad you showed this off a bit. i thought i was the only person who had ever played this lol. i loved the combat system and the world. and finding hidden areas was super exciting
why is there more physics in this 2006 game then most games now?
Love this game, come back every few years for a play through and always have a great time. The only mod I tend to use while playing is one for equipping my current sword when I shield. The amount of times you click the shield and they grab the blacksmith hammer is maddening
How's it hidden when it is in my personal collection of Best Games of All Time for a more, than a decade now? The game is PERFECT!
I'm glad I came across your video. I remembered I've played this before but forgot about it after so many years. Thanks for the reminder! 👍👍😄😄
For all the memories i have of this game, the one thing I will never forget is eavesdropping on pack of goblins and realizing they were speaking Swedish.
I never been convinced to play this older of a title but this video did a pretty good job of that, gonna give it a try.
Played this when it came out . Way ahead of its time. Def one of my favorites from my past. Needs a remake
I loved this when it came out (aside from the bugs) and converted many of my fellow gamers at lan sessions where this became an absolute staple. You would level up your skills in each game which still had an rpg feel even in pvp. Great fun and have never seen anything like it since
Lol "he's being flirtatious don't you know what trouble that could cause in this day and age?" love it. Makes me want to play it.
props on triple alliteration: "frequently flinging foes" GOLD STAR
Ah one of my favourites from my childhood! I have played and replayed this one so much. I never quite found another game like it.
Thanks for recommending this! I really did miss out on this banger, I didn't have my PS3 during 2006 and was still pretty young and mostly playing Wii. As of today, there is a steam sale, and it was 2.49 so absolute steal.
Never heard of this game but you totally sold me on it. To my wishlist it goes so I can check it out as soon as I have some time.
Needs MOOOAR ATTENTION.
Come on algorithm, push this vid
I felt in love with this game, played with full music. Those games makes bois Real Man
Thanks for showcasing this wonderful game. One of the first games I fell in love with.
Have this sitting for the longest time in my wishlist on steam, I think this video finally convinced me in playing it.
This really cracked me up. Thanks for the laughs. Subscription made.
I can't believe this popped up in my feed, I was just thinking of Might and Magic on Xbox. Hilarious video!
I still remember the first time I saw an article on this game in game informer magazine when i was kid. Got unbelievably hyped for this game back then.
yeah i played this in 2011 or so. it was ok. my little brother loved it.
i remember playing this as a demo back on the 360 when i was like 8, i was absolutely obsessed with the game but never actually got to play the game, the game randomly came across my mind yesterday for the first time in a decade at least, and now this video gets recommended to me today, i think its time to give it a try if i can find it
Great presentation! You forgot to include stealth mechanics and those sweet backstabs and dagger combos.
Thanks! Your channel only recently found me and I am digging in - Wishlisted this game - there is actually a demo on Steam😃
Great video
Of all games that I think deserves a remaster, I'd love to see this one remastered
Damn, looks like im going to play this game for 4th time, there's just something magic about this game and i cant really tell what is that "magic" add fantastic fighting mechanics and many varieties of fight and you'll receive such a masterpiece. Great vid mate
Thanks for doing this. Dark Messiah still can't get enough positive reviews.
Thank you for recommending this game, after you video I bought it and started playing (it crashed after the intro mission, just had to restart it) and I can see how this game is designed for FUN
The fact that the same studio now made Redfall (though I guess very few of the original developers remain) is a good summary of the current state of western video games
