    15:55 Bonus tips
Today I’m going to cover the basics of how to burn belly fat fast on the keto diet.
5 important tips to help you lose belly fat:
    1. Consume salad first
When it comes to leafy greens, you don’t have to count carbs. You should consume at least 7 cups of salad per day.
There are huge benefits of lowering your carbs, but there are also huge benefits of consuming nutrient-dense foods.
Consuming this amount of salad can help prevent things like keto cramps, keto fatigue, and keto flu. It can also help reduce insulin resistance and give you more energy.
    2. Protein
Start by consuming an amount of protein that is about the size of your hand. If you’re bigger or younger, you could have more. If you’re older and have a slow metabolism, then have less.
If you have too much protein, it can slow down ketosis. But, if you don’t have enough, you could feel tired. The key is to not consume low-fat protein.
    3. Fat
In the beginning, it’s important to increase the amount of fat at each meal. The initial goal of the keto diet is not to jump into weight loss. It’s to help you start intermittent fasting.
It’s very important to do intermittent fasting with Healthy keto. If you do keto without fasting, you won’t get into a deeper level of ketosis and fat-burning. The combination of Healthy keto and intermittent fasting is powerful for fast fat-burning.
    4. Nutrients
When you’re doing keto and fasting, it’s important to include all of the nutrients you need to prevent nutritional deficiencies. You’ll need more B vitamins (nutritional yeast), electrolytes, and sea salt.
    5. Don’t feel deprived
Your cognitive function, energy, and mood are going to improve. You’re also going to lose weight. But, if you miss certain pleasure foods, there are certain things you can have after your meal, like low-carb chocolate or keto desserts.
    Bonus tips:
    1. If something is working, don’t change anything. If it’s not working, it’s time to change something.
    2. You don’t lose weight to get healthy. You have to get healthy to lose weight.

No diet involved. You have to start to see sugar and carbs as poison because that is what they are. Humans are not supposed to eat sugars, carbs, processed foods and seed oils. You have to keep your insulin down as much as possible.

I remember that moment the first time I lost weight. As usual, I went to go lay down after eating until l I couldn't move anymore and started the very next day controlling myself. It took about 6 months but I lost 30 pounds and changed my relationship with food. Then I started getting skinny shamed to the point of gaining it all back but I am back at it again and won't listen to the negative comments this time. I originally got down to 5 2” 130 and am back at 160 now but will be happy even if I can get back to 150 again.
It's amazing remember your moment of realizations that things have to change though!

    1. Keep carbs less than 20gram daily
    2. Protein (fatty) eg pork: size of inner hand (not fingers) per meal
    3. Salad first : potassium, C, magnesium
    4. Fat: nuts, olives, avocado,
    5. Intermittent fasting (IF)
    Eating increases insulin.

20g of carbs? Yeah maybe if you don't lift weights, that's insanely low and would never be suitable for a person that likes to lift. Carbs is your body's primary fuel source to keep your body functioning and do everyday tasks, they're not the enemy. Get over your 80s mentality.

@@LeeEverett1 it's not for every one, carbs are very inflammatory for my body. I have more joint pain, headaches, wake up phlegmy. When I keep carbs low, I have mental clarity, my joints don't ache and no headaches, but I love my potatoes, rice, 😭😭😭 so it's difficult for me to stay on Keto, I lost 20lbs last time I was on in, but has a hard time sustaining it.

This is such a great video packed with so much vital information to starting keto, explaining how weight loss occurs, everything that is necessary to get you on the right track. I binge watched a lot of Dr. Berg’s videos the beginning of this year when I had enough with my belly fat, being overweight, definitely insulin resistant and a fatty liver. I’ve applied all of his techniques and as 58yr. old woman have lost 30lbs, gone from a size 17 to a size 9, just since January 2023. I came back to this video because I’ve been stuck at a plateau and I’m frustrated. I only want to lose another 10lbs or so then I’ll be back in the 120s we’re I belong and hopefully back into my size 7 jeans. Rewatching this video reminds me what I need to do to move forward and above all never go back!! Thanks Dr. Berg

You fill me with hope ! Originally, I followed the Alisa Vitti's method, which was the same as well... she put a lot of emphasis on the salads.. and also on a protein breakfast etc. But this is also good idea too. Am going to try a proper keto diet for the first time in my life. I do hope that I'm successful ! (I've had an operation before on ovary removal.. so am feeling all sorts of weird things now. But will definitely try this as well. I could slowly feel my memories declining.... Nothing to lose at this point. ) I went from a size 14 to 18 under 6 months of take outs etc during the lockdown which is SUPER scary. I ditched my previous routine and patterns. No supplements, and no alissa's routine and method... and I ballooned. So hopefully doing this, might just reduce it a lot. He mentioned a 6-8 gm of protein... which is a good pointer... to be honest. Something solid and concrete to follow. Takeaways and microwave meals are normally 400 gm ! 😆😁

I looked 3 months pregnant for 15 years and it wasn't until I learned about curing a fatty liver, that I was able to lose my belly. I started by introducing more fatty meat and cruciferous vegetables. I followed that up with lowering my carb intake and intermittent fasting 18:6, which I now do 19:5 - that means including my sleep, I don't eat for 19 hours every day!
I've been doing this for 19 months and my 103 pound weight loss has stayed off - and I never get hungry.

Pro Tip: Do not eat pre-packaged foods that say they are Keto or keto friendly. Keep your diet simple with foods you make from scratch or are whole foods. Also, beware that sweeteners are tricky. Watch some videos on acceptable sweeteners. I made a rookie mistake by using a coffee flavoring that said it was sugar free. It wasn't until I did some trouble-shooting as to why I wasn't losing weight that I discovered that the sugar free flavoring had sucralose in it. While sucralose is sugar free, it does create an insulin response, which ruined my intermittent fasting of 18/6.

    • @keralee

Besides which sucralose will screw up your immune system signalling. Aspartame will screw up your protein synthesis. Consuming optical isomers of aminos or sugars is not wise--they do not exist in nature for very good reason!

i'm curious what you think i should do when i get another one of those days that i just dont feel hungry, should i at least eat something? or should i just not eat that day and then eat the next day when i feel hungry?
i'm making sure to eat healthy fats and oils, a lot of salat and good veggies and fatty meat and the food is real good, i love keto.

Not being negative, but that loss is mostly water, as every gram of carbs holds on to 3 grams of water, approximately. As you cut carb consumption, you won't accumulate water. This is why it is important to have electrolytes in keto, because the minerals that were in the "carb-attached" water are no longer there. You'll notice that the amount of weight loss will be less in terms of percentage of total weight as time goes by. But, if you persist, eventually you'll be in ketosis and burning fat. Adding further persistence will make you fat-adapted after 6 months or so, which basically means that you'll be metabolically flexible. This means that even if you eat some more carbs on a night out or so, your body will come out of ketosis, but it will be easier and faster for you to get back into ketosis again, due to such metabolic flexibility. So KEEP GOING!!!

I haven't been able to keep it off, because I went on two All Inclusive holidays, but if you make it a lifestyle change then you'll definitely be able to stay at your goal weight. My wife has also followed this advice, and she went from 11st to 8.2st, where she remains. It took her longer, around 24 weeks. Definitely try this and remember, feeling hungry is in the mind!

    - intermittent fasting: skip breakfast, have two meals or maybe just one meal a day if you can
    - don't eat if you are not hungry
    - eat salad and eat that first during the meal
    - eat nuts
    - have sea salt
    - consume protein not bigger than your palm [hamburger/steak/salmon/sardine/skin on chicken]
    - add low carb chock as dessert [not full bar]
    - measure your weight after 3 months. If it's working, stay on course.
    Good luck!!!

Metabolic Syndrome and NAFLD are now fully alleviated and I’m back to the same weight I was 29 years go. I’m 47 now and currently actually 2-3 pounds less than I was as a college freshmen.

One meal every 21 hours or so. (I am retired so that helps a great deal as I do not need a lot of calories.) A very strict keto diet like that described above. What I learned from Dr Berg; Don't eat if u aren't hungry...my challenge is that I don't want to waste or throw food away. Especially after I have thawed and prepared it 🙄. If I don't plan & prepare ahead ...I eat too many healthy Snacks or Keto desserts. 🙄
Gotta up my game. T.Y. Dr Berg. 🤗

Thank you Dr. Berg. Your instruction is always well thought through and detailed. One thing that I would like to mention that I found out and that is, is that when I feel 'hungry', that a lot of time it isn't hunger, but thirst (dehydration) and after a refreshing drink, I feel fine and not hungry anymore. I just thought that this may be why some people are gaining weight, because in mistaking thirst for hunger, they are consuming an over-abundance of food?? Is this a possibility?

Over last 2 years during COVID I isolated in my room and stopped keto eating. Put my weight back on and stopped walking - went back to 95kgs. I am now going back on keto and really looking forward to becoming energised, healthy and happy again. Hi Dr Berg, really enjoying your vlogs. Spent ages trying to find clear advice on HIIT and you nailed it with your explanation in another vlog! Regarding this keto diet with intermittent fasting, I'm actually happy to completely fast for say 20-30 days by just consuming water, green tea and all the necessary vitamins and minerals. I did it before but made the mistake of eating all the crap again soon after that caused me to put the extra 35lbs on in the first place! What I'd like to know (ethics and extremeness aside) is will my fasting lose more 'fat' much quicker than a keto one or will it be negligible? Thank you and hope you can help.

Thanks Doc. I lost 29 pounds so far and over 5 inches on my waist. I lost it in 4 months. I did this following your advice. I must admit that in the beginning, when I was getting hungry, I kept my willpower through fear. My doctor read me the riot act when he told me I had a fatty liver. I was only hungry for about the first 4 or 5 days then the hunger left. I do not have a desire for carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, etc) or sweets. Something I thought that would be impossible to give up. Sometimes my fasting goes as long as 20 hours with ZERO hunger. I feel pretty good now. 29 pounds down, 40 to go. Question - When I reach my proper weight how do I continue this without turning into a string-bean? Now, as an overweight person for most of my 69 years on this earth, that is a wonderful question for me to ask. You have unlocked the key for me. I wish you and your family a long and healthy life. From the bottom of my heart, thanks again. You may have saved my life.

It was bulletproof coffee, mixed greens, mostly kale, asparagus, romaine, zucchini, mushrooms, chicken, shrimp, cheese, meats, sometimes nuts, avocados and tons of MCT oil…. shirttail noodles… I would do salad first…. My brain still goes crazy without carbs… especially taking ADD meds- 7 hours into it, I’m anxious and edgy until I have even a little bit of carbs…

If you follow Dr. Berg's advice, your cravings will go down and your ability to regulate what you eat gets easier. You should consider wearing a CGM to see which foods are spiking your glucose and change what you eat accordingly. Also, do not forget building up lean muscle (weight training) and eating protein--your muscle is one of the biggest "sinks" for glucose and the key to metabolic health. A Dexa scan will tell you your lean mass % as well as your VAT. Do this as a baseline then eat per video, and do muscle strengthening. You will be a new person! Good luck!

I don’t want to get discouraged just keep toning up with floor exercises while I watch the kids and after watching this maybe try to cut out the nuts. I eat sprouted nuts, about a handful of sprouted pecans or walnuts as a treat after my meals. I eat around 9-10:30 every morning and again at 3pm, and then that’s when I stop for the day. I can’t seem to get past morning without eating. Most likely the intensity it takes to mother a 10 month old, 3 yr old and 5 yr old as a stay at home mom. But maybe someday I can do OMAD. Just never find that I’m not hungry. I’m ready for food after 17-18 hours of fasting. I’ve never slept better too!
