opteka 0.3x 72mm fisheye lens hood fix

  • If y’all got the opteka/kapkur titanium series 0.3x HD super fisheye for an HVX200, HPX170, or HMC150, then i HEAVILY suggest using this method. I came up with it out of pure frustration that the lens cap didn’t fit on the lens without the hood. This method preserves the full bubble of your fisheye without the lens hood cropping out the sides while ALSO letting you remove and replace the lens cap + lens hood at the same time without having to waste time with the screws. your workflow in the field will be streamlined and quick as if you were using a vx1000 with the MK1 fisheye.
    i’ve been dealing with this problem since i got the lens, and now i have a ridiculously simple solution for it. i have yet to find anybody else that’s done this method online so imma claim it as the Daria method.
    Ideally, the company who manufactures this lens would do what Century Optics did for their MK2 fisheye and not have side bars on the lens hood, but you can’t get everything you want if you’re spending less than $500 on a camera lens 🥴

    I don't even film skateboarding or own an opteka, but happy that you've found a great solution!

      Opteka is the re-branded lens made by the Chinese that make Kapkur. :) It's the same lens.

    There is also felt tape, this is whats used on mk1's, would make for a cleaner look and a all around seal. Can be found cheap too on amazon

    Hell yeah I used this similar method but with duct tape. The residue has essentially ruined any chance of using the lens hood again but I’m fine with that

    i glued the lens hood to the cap haha

    nice idea but you can also just glue the hood to the lenscover and for me it works better.

    • @dariadayle
      @dariadayle  7 місяців тому +1

      while i did think of that, the tape method is the least invasive and has very little room for error. you could really mess up your lens setup if you apply the glue wrong. also, if i were to sell it for cash to upgrade to a better one, it's best to not have a bunch of glue all over it. the buyer might want it stock. if you have no intentions to sell it and are a person who has steadier hands than i do + more patience, then yeah the glue method is valid! i just like to have room to fix it if i do anything wrong ahahaha
