Ben, I watched your HVX guide video religiously after I bought mine and have had so many successful outings with it. Your dedication to shooting, skating and education around these old cameras we cling to is valuable to all of us weirdos stuck in the past. Keep it up!
Just gonna drop a comment to run this video up! Your HVX guide was what pushed me to buy one, and helped me tremendously, as did a couple of your previous videos and a couple DMs. Would love to see / hear a streamlined way of sorting P2 footage in terms of how you sift through useable / non-useable clips (Directly related to skate filming) before getting it on your computer as they're quite difficult to organize once its on your computer without the use of P2 viewer plus given the quick time issues. Another potential idea would be how you'd go about organizing/labeling clips to submit for a project that you may not be responsible for editing but strictly providing footage. Would be stoked to also see how you go about initial set up / adjust / film skate footage, although that may be a tough video to capture. Anyways, thanks for all the info on your channel!
Hey Ben really really appreciate how you picked up all the ‘tech’ lingo and use it appropriately asfaic, it takes patience and pure curiosity for how your tools work (and self-consciousness I’d say) to make out what each concept means. And that’s a very mature explanation of why Scuba Steve’s scene files were what they were, it really takes a curious mind to think about such a thing :) love it. Props on all the changes too.
How does one go about finding this Scuba Steve scene file. Im sure your imagination can run wild on what comes up when you search for Scuba Steves scene files haha
Nice to see you doing stuff like this BEN. Making me miss my old mac pro and HVX haha :D. If im ever in your neck of the woods we need to go out and film together! :D
I know this is supposed to be more tailored to Panasonic cameras, but it looks alright on my R5 C (hell, it looks alright on the XF605 even and I prefer that camera sometimes because the R5 C looks like one of those 1990s DSLRs once I stick the V mount battery on it). I do also have this one on my OG 2005 era HVX200, but that camera needs help from that Topaz AI software because, well, it's an OG HVX200 (unmodded) from 2005, it needs all the help it can get.
Some of those Canon cameras have bad ergonomics if ya ask me. And oh for damn sure. That OG Panasonic sensor is TRASSSSSH. Tempted to make a video comparing the different sensors and what to expect.
Man, I tell ya, I love the crispy quality out of the R5 C, but actually using it.. if I were commissioned to film skating with it, I’d probably actually commit Roblox, it’s that bad to physically use for high octane stuff (I’d rather edit on AVID professionally). Now, the XF605 is physically MUCH better to film with (on par with the HVX/HPX), but the picture looks too sterile, even with a shitload of grading it manually to “look” like it came from a CCD. There’s a specific noise pitch to CCDs that you really can’t recreate if you shoot with CMOS (partially due to the fact that CCD elements are much more analog than CMOS-I lost the link, but some university scientists somewhere actually wrote up a whole someteen page paper on it). I’d actually like to see someone with as much Panasonic experience as yourself go over the sensor differences (I got my hands on a HPX mostly because the SDI can be recorded by an Atomos Ninja V/V+ so I can officially say mine is intraframe HEVC capable 😂).
Welcome to Apple life! Man I had no idea the janky stuff you did to capture footage hahah. Yes those decks are gold having phono to FireWire. To set your mind at ease even modern Apple hardware support FireWire! Just in true Apple way you need to buy two things extra but yes those old iMacs are epic as just one cable! £40! Deal!!!! I recently got a brand new MacBook Pro that I’ll be paying for many years 🤣 but yes it works with FireWire with two adapters. I only own one HDV camera now but it’s the FX1000 that has both FireWire clearly but also HDMI output so I can use HDMI for live out or capture from it via hdmi to usb thing I own for hdmi capture. All the gear haha
Hey ben you are the bomb! I love your videos and watch them all the time to learn. I am an fpv drone designer and pilot. I tested using a camcorder RCa to fly fpv drones and finally got it all working. Now i just need to find the right camera and would love to pick your brain if you are available. Would discord be ok?
@@BenJonesVideographer would you be down to share your night settings? I'm loving day50, and wondering if you use that all the time now, or still keep a night-oriented scene file as well.
Absolutely, I'd be careful with going too far with the master ped as it's only a 4:2:0 8bit file so you can't bring it back as easily compared to 4:2:2 on the HPX/HVX
You could just use a sdi to HDMI and then an HDMI capture card. I personally use mine to stream with rca to HDMI then capture card. But I know I'm losing resolution. It just doesn't matter that much haha

I’m just now jumping in with a HMC150. Had a HVX200A and couldn’t get the P2 to work, sold it. Always wanted another Panasonic

I didnt know u could capture minidv on the hvx to p2. How can I do that?
I actually cover it slightly in my HVX/HPX guide!
Thanks man, i watched that guide long ago and didn't remember that part. Watching it again right now :)
Is this equivalent to the vx1 custom presets?
Pretty much aye 👍🏻
Audio is 👌🏻
Can this use for dvx?

can these cameras be used to livestream?
For the HPX if you got a Blackmagic decklink card, you could possibly use the HPX via SDI. The HVX however is a different question

also, i hate PC and am a total Mac whore so.... CONGRATS ON YOUR MAC FINE SIR :D
Thank you Mike! It's old and kinda scratched up but man she's a beauty 😎
