- @amosrodriguezsurvival challenged Greg to a NOT Walmart Survival Challenge and he gladly accepted! After grabbing a few select items from a locally owned small business, Greg and Finn hike into the bush for an overnight adventure. The challenge was also extended to @TheWoodedBeardsman and @FowlersMakeryandMischief, so be on the lookout for their videos too!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

"Hi, I'm Greg Ovens, and this is Oven's Rocky Mountain Bushcraft." Can't tell you how happy I am every time I see a post from Greg. Even a campfire and story time with Greg would be enjoyable. Or a buy and cook on the campfire.

Won’t eat a mouse but will eat a frog, ya wanna think about that
Support local business! It keeps the common man’s economy flowing! This is a cool trend, I saw Amos’s video too
Yea the local businesses where I live are expensive as hell
@@ChillionaireThat's everywhere, local businesses can't afford to buy stock in bulk to get it cheaper like Walmart for example can. They ruin local businesses and take a lot of the money out of your area. That's why you should support the local businesses instead.

Thank you, for all the great adventures. I am 70 yrs and have enjoyed this type of thing all my life. Watching you and others gives me new things to learn while watching. I love it !!!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you know anything about the outdoors and how things work than you already know how precious these videos are. Go ahead and watch all the other big names which I won’t mention cause they are All good outdoorsman but Greg has the touch that they are all missing. If you watched him with the battery then you will see he didn’t cut away and use a lighter. He showed you that it sucks but it can be done and I bet that whole thing took him and hour or two just to make a two minute fire starting sequence FOR HIS WATCHERS.Think about that! I can do all this but I surely can’t record it while getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and I don’t think many have the patience to do so🤷🏼This is the best you will see on you tube for outdoor survival skills by a long shot!!!

Bushcraft is an art, and you sir, are an artist.
Hey Greg, just wanna say “Thank you” for sharing Fin with us all! After losing my dog this last year (old age), it helps me so much to see goofy and lovable Fin! It heals me truly, give Fin some pats on the head for me!
Much love and blessing - Devin!
My dad and I would go to a nearby pond. We’d gig frogs all night long. Daylight we’d go home and clean them and put them in salt water to soak. Mama would roll them in egg and corn meal and fry them. Some of the best eating for basically free!
Thats awesome!
Any kind of frog? We don't have a lot of bull frogs where I live. I've never tried them but I would like to.
@@hubrisnaut research edible frogs in your area. Some are poisonous.
That's how it's done 😎
Greg, you're the bushcraft Fabio of the Rocky Mountains! 🤗💞
Hey Greg just a quick tip on using the steel wool and battery for fire starting. Use a larger piece of steel wool , about half fist size will work great. That way when you touch the battery to it the steel wool will run hot longer giving you more time to light your tinder.

Come to Alaska 🎉
Sure do enjoy your homely attitude and simple methods of basic and very important life skills❤
Also the experiences you share through it all in a calm respectful courteous manner!
All around humble and down to earth man ❤❤❤
I was itching just seeing all them mosquitoes, I can only imagine how irritating it was starting your fire dealing with them buggers. Another great video Greg! You and Finn keep up the great content!
@GregOvens is this real? Ive gotten another one of these from another content creator i like to watch.
I will zubb yall
Watch out for these scams was not me
@@OvensRockyMountainBushcraft thanks Greg I appreciate it, I figured it was probably a scammer. Take care
Same. You could hear those mosquitoes very wel
Thank you Greg my son is 8 and we injoy watching you we learn alot from you :)
$12 for 5 frog legs. I didnt know they sold for that much lol we used to catch and cook them all of the time growing up, we'd eat about 30, 40 sometimes even more of them a piece haha that'd be almost $400 worth of frog legs haha
You nailed it buddy. Fort - Fire- Fish - Finn and a positive vibe thru out makes you a weiner! cheers 🍺🍺🍺from Nunavut.
My boyfriend and I love watching your vids Greg. Whenever we go camping and forget something vital we’ll always say something like “we just have to think like Greg” and we always figure something out. Like the last time, I forgot extra tent pegs for our tarp so we just whittled down some sticks and they lasted us the whole week’s stay!! Best survivalist around
"Think like Greg” and camp next to a Walmart.

I think that’s pretty generic us of them!
I live in rural Maine and I can't fathom how the natives lived here during the height of mosquito season. They are brutal and maddening. I believe they made for the coast. Some say they slathered themselves in bear fat. One item I would have bought is bug spray with lots of deet in it. It's the only thing that works.
My old friend Kathy and I had been fishing all day. Came back to prepare our fish when she looked at me and said, are those bull frogs I hear?
Yes....we lived on a golf course at that time. She and I took the golf cart out and all we had to do was shine the headlights on them. They froze! Needless to say we also had a bunch of awesome frog legs that night!! 😋
loved the video. would really like to see more with wild edible plants though. like forage and cook etc
He did point out that the nettles would be edible. Without a pot to blanch them they might have been more trouble than they were worth though.
@@AwesomeFish12 yea that’s true
Love your videos - I always learn something new. Thanks for all the hard work you put into them.
Looked like a fun challenge minus the skeeters. So nice to catch a couple fish. Many thanks to you and Finn.
Excellent outing Greg!
Greg thx once again for another great video. Loved watching it. Keep supporting those local businesses!!! Looking fwd to your next adventures.
Great video Greg! You break everything down so simple for folks. Truly enjoy the content you put out!
That look on Fin's face at 15:00. Just so great!
Lol
Absolutely love your humor!!
“Look like a bunch of bums hanging out “ 😂
You get me laughing by myself so much just when i need it ❤❤❤
I stumbled upon 1 of your fire starting videos and you got me hooked. Ive been binge watching for hours now. You are so relatable Greg Ovens. ❤
Doesn’t seem like anyone mentioned this yet but if you need to, it is possible to eat stinging nettles raw, just crush them up a bit first. It’s much more valuable than “just another wild edible to survive” too. I grow a patch at home and have a number of wood nettle foraging spots; it’s valuable as heck to me.. Grateful for your knowledge sharing Greg. 🌍☮️
I like the idea of using a bic lighter to start fires. I've dug them out of dry mud after they've been thrown away and sat in the sun for who knows how long after they were thought to be used up. You can depend on them to light up at least another 8-10 times.
Nice challenge! Loved watching this one. ❤ Take care, Greg and Finn! 😊
I Loved it, you and Finn are always Great to see
Greg, you should always carry a multi tool with you at all times. If you don’t have one , I’ll send you one.
Always interesting, always informative and definitely always worth watching . This is the kind of minimalist survival/bushcraft video that is actually worth the title of bushcraft and you're one of only a few blokes who do it . Great video thanks .
Hey Greg, Been waiting for another vid, seems like a while! Miss'n-Ya/Mug, & Funny Personality! Great to see Fin, always taking care about you too! He, I remember my bro-eating my pet Bull-Frog-Charlie, when I went to Campfire-girls-camp! We used to froggig, thoughout/rivers! Yes, freshies, Do-Jump in the fry-pan, while cooking. (❤'d-M) Yep-chickn! 😋, actually, tastier! Ohh, dear-please, don't suffer anymore, get some repellent! ?(nothin-naturale, round there)? Don't the stinging nettles Sting you? (They surely did me) Never feel that you need to do this for us, as I wouldn't want that misery, 4 No-Thang-Period! (Been/There)! You understand. Get that Smokey going! Sktrs/Bugs! Hope you are doing okay/that! Terribly rough in your GEORGES Neighborhood!
I know you sacrifice one for another, doing what ya do! Big-Boy-wupper's-Fin, is still suprising you with gifts! 😊,
You got some good looking trout, but was it enough for you! 😅, but, tru! GBU.,SM.,NZ., 👍♥️😉🙏
As always thanks for the video and sharing your life's adventures Greg
Nice video . And that fish. Yum. Thanks for sharing Greg
What a great guy! Living such a simple but equally brilliant life! Love from Greece!
My new favourite phrase I learned from Greg that I drop into every conversation “now were styling!” 😂
Yes a smoky fire will scare off the mosquitoes. I found out when I lived wild in Scotland. Martin London England
Awesome challenge idea. Amos' video was good as well. My wife and I love watching Finn and your adventures!😁 Hopefully this rain we've been getting can keep the fires off us for a bit! Cheers from Southern BC
Great challenge Greg. Very entertaining and educational. Great fishing too. Cheers mate from Aust
Persistence is definitely a virtue . Thank you Greg and fin for the challenge.
Love you're channel eh,Canadian Wilderness Forever Greg
Awesome!!! 😀 😎 👍
Those mosquitos, yikes. I got bit like crazy working in the garden this summer! Every time I heard one on this video, I winced! I suspect I may have PMSD, Post Mosquito Stress Disorder!
Also really appreciated how you harvested the skunk cabbage, leaving leaves on each plant so it can recover. Thank you for showing responsible resource use! 😊
Omg… that restaurant out
On the River… in new west… and frog legs. Lol “back in my day” I know that restaurant, brings a smile to my

awesome great advice without being up your own arse always learning and being yourself once again cheers from the UK

This was great! Hope Fowler and others do this as well
I totally cracked up at you "Waiting for the locusts"! I get long periods of bad patches too, I completely relate. I'm gonna use that one lol
And yes gregd the best to watch i fond his videos sooo relaxing and addictive, just watched about 4 hours worth almost non stop 👍
You and Finn have got the life for sure. Keep it up Greg we will watch man ✌️🔥😎
I love your show! And your life, Im so jelly I wish I lived your life, out there where I belong. Love it all!
Hi Greg, a long time subscriber from down here in Texas and you are the most real person making survivalist videos. Thank you for your efforts and may the financial reward keep you afloat.
What a good show you did amazing and with the mosquitoes. Thanks Ovens. From Highland falls New York
Good to see you Greg! Good show!
Great video my friend loved it can't wait for you next marvelous adventure.
4 items of my choice would be:
1. Tent
2. Lighter
3. Hot dogs
4. Water
Try nettle roots, like a horizontal yellow carrot. Let me know what you think. Boil or roast.
Great video Greg. if you peel bark off standing cedars, usually it is totally dry and also has oils in it that make it catch fire easily. Plus it is powdery. Even in the rain, the under bark of the cedar will be dry. Your dog is very cute :)
Put a small piece of RED tissues (like a piece of a red tshirt or towel) on a hook and catch unlimited frogs. They LOVE the red color and I catch batch of 20+ frequently with a fishing pole and a small piece of a red tshirt on a fishing hook. Easy. I cook them in garlic butter like you did they are fantastic.
Super cool vid. Looked like a beautiful creek. Fin is definitely a bit spoiled, I've never seen a dog turn down frog legs 😂
Prefers the pedigree from the can :p

Hi Greg,
My family, and I absolutely love watching your adventures with Finn in the bush, as well as learning new skills that we could all practice, the next time we head out into the wild.
Thank you for being such a great person to learn from! One last thing, we are sorry to hear of your vehicle problems, and if you're in the market for another vehicle, we don't know if you might be interested with possibly taking a look at the Toyota brand?
The vehicles that Toyota makes just seem to last a very long time, especially the ones from Japan!
Take care, and happy trails!
Perseverance must be your middle name, Greg. ... My dad cooked frog legs for us once when I was a kid. They were delicious! We have little to no mosquitos this year, so far, in S.E. Ontario. We still have a province wide fire ban though. Your videos are always a treat to watch. Keep 'em coming!
God bless you Greg great Bushcraft
As usual, great vidio Greg!😊
Frog legs..."let"s hop to it!" 😂 Made me laugh 🤣
When building fire with steel wool. It's best to use a lightly packed ball about the size of a ping-pong ball.
Works really good .
Also sweet-grass works pretty good for keeping mosquitoes away. Crush it up and rub it on your skin, or weave it into necklaces and bracelets and wear it around your neck and wrists. Or both.
Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you .
Excellent video brother..
🤜🌟🤛🎣🐟
I learned about you from watching Fowlers videos you’re a good person I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you.
OK Greg. Really smooth going video here. Enjoyed it even if the mosquitos were making me itch! crazy. The car troubles for non rich folks lnever ends. the alternative is huge payments, so yeah. You doing your own work is commendable. I do the same if reasonbly possible. keep it coming.. we're here! Thanx.. Doug Rock in Plattsburgh, NY
Very cool. Really enjoyed it.
With the way of the world today,in my opinion Greg you are one of the most wealthy and happy people I watch and your lifestyle choices are something to admire! The beauty of the bush and what it has to offer beats life in the concrete jungles every time!
Love the idea of the battery to start the fire. I knew it could be done but I don't think I'd seen it done before. I thought it would have been easier. Good to know. Nice video, thank you!
Loved it how Finn was like... Aww cool mate, you got the fire cooking and just lays down and chilled. 24:38
I like the music in the background 😊
I love watching your vids Thank you Greg
