- In this video, Gordon and Joe (editor) take part in a winter survival challenge using items from Walmart. In this cooperative real-life survival game, the team have $93 each and only 20 minutes to buy everything they need to survive in the wilderness. Each hour, the team will confront challenges that test their skills and gear in the hopes of being rescued alive.
Gordon: Special thanks to Joe for letting me drag him along for this fun video! He had no idea what he was getting into with the challenges, and I think he is rather brave for completing them… especially making fire with flint and steel.
Winter camping. Hiking. Survival. Preparedness. Survival challenge.
I really hope this becomes a series, love the concept.
Thanks for the feedback, we sure enjoyed making it!
This would actually make a great outdoor style game for people who hike or camp or just go outdoors to keep on their survival toes!
I remember you once made a camp for your editor as comfortable as possible, he didnt know anything about outdoor survival, BUT LOOK AT HIM NOW!!! IT WAS AMAZING HOW HE DID THE FLINT AND STEEL!! bet he learned allot! 👏
I agree! He’s a very quick study and certainly brave. Thanks for watching!
Well done. Nice game.
Additional tips for everyone from an old man who has done similar, gone out in December with a knife, a mess kit, a thin blanket, a lighter, some spare clothing a canteen and some twine. A year and a half later my little camp was still standing.
1) add to your shelter when you have a fire going. Just like putting on clothes, use layers to add insulation and protection. Branches, leaves, snow, pine needles are good. These can go under you and over and around the shelter.
2) If you've been sweating or getting rained on at all, get into dry as possible clothes as the sun goes down. Strip to naked in the wind if possible. It will chill you quick, but if you have dry socks, underwear, t shirt, any other base layer; change into them. Let the worn clothing dry in the wind or near the fire. In the winter this happens faster than you think.
3) making a spoon from wood, making an alarm from twine and cans, great skills, learn to make tools from what is available. Rake, shovel, spoon, fork, tent stakes, hammer, first aid supplies, shelter. Knots, lashing, woodcarving, blade shapening, first aid, traps, are great woodcraft skills
4) gear is nothing without skills and practice. This applies to most of life. Having seeds does not make a gardener.
5) don't rely on woodcraft skills, learn and practice a couple other 18th century skills, butchering, hunting, gardening, carpentry, bricklaying, brick making, cement and mortar making, smithing, riding horse, herding animals, even walking distance wearing a pack are all valuable skills that make good hobbies and may make a difference if the power goes out long term. I call them 18th century skills, but in much of the world they are still practiced as a way of life. There are more skills, just think about what is needed in a village.
Good thoughts! Thanks for watching and for being here.
Tom Clancy material...A roll of the dice...I'd read it! Well done
Loved this concept and would like to see more. Very clever way of introducing jeopardy into a training exercise.
Glad you liked it!
This is a new type of video where you pretend your in an emergency situation and have no gear which I love, these videos are awesome thank you
Exactly! I’m glad you found it interesting.
I love stuff like this I do a survival race and you have to plot a map to find stations and do a survival skill and your get points
Fantastic! Map and compass courses are truly fun.
Loved this one Gordon! It was so fun to watch, and would LOVE to see this become a series! it has a TONNNN of potential!
Thanks so much, Josh! It sure was fun to make. I like the idea of a series… hmm!
Criminally low views on this video
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
This was really cool. Good video!
In an apocalyptic senerio Walmart would be the first place people loot and plunder. We know them Walmart regulars will be a challenge trying to get the stuff you want.
I loved this !! Thanks for the awesome survial/adventure video !!
This was absolutely awesome! That would honestly be a lot of fun and it was great seeing Joe tackle the challenges without the prior experience. Well done!!
Thanks so much, Alex! It truly was enjoyable. I love doing stuff like this!
Ive done a very similar challenge (without the apocalypse aspect, $100 walmart challenge) and ended up building the mors kochanski survival shelter. Very interesting video and great challenges
Thank you! I will go check out your video, it sounds fun!
I really enjoyed this one. The story telling was great ! The idea of challenges in a box like that !!! wow I think you could even organise RPG like that for other people.
No need to put a money challenge but you could challenge your preparedness like you have 30min to leave your house with your favorite things.
So glad you enjoyed it! I really like the idea of the 30 min home preparedness challenge, that would be a fun one to do! Thank you for watching!
This was soooo interesting!!! Loved it!
That’s high praise from you two! Much appreciated. Thank you.
This was awesome! I enjoyed every minute! Always be prepared and ready!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Something different but it was fun to do!
Really entertaining great video!
Thanks so much!
This was a great video! I loved it! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Does anyone know what model knife that is? I’ve been looking for a utility knife that can both flip and retract
Milwaukee makes a good utility knife that both flips open and retracts.
I’d hate to stay in the cold/wet outside to then also do challenges. It’s already challenge enough to live outside
It’s not comfortable, for sure! 😅
Absolutely love this, stoped half way to smash the like you put some great thought into this it is amazing. Thanks for making this happen.
Thank you for your support and smashing the like button! 💪🏼
Love the survival challenges videos
Thanks! They sure are a lot of fun to make!
@@grimgranite and are fun to watch!
Wow this video is really cool!
Much appreciated
Walmart is underrated. There is machetes, guns, knives, and a whole lot more survival stuff
Hmm.... I've stopped a couple minutes in to contemplate the timed walmart challenge, and the first thing that came to mind was "the biggest challenge would be the clothing" (Wallyworld is your one stop shop for all varieties of polyethylene clothing, but finding wool or cotton or even sane blends in there can be tough) I think I'd blow half the budget on some serious insulated work coveralls.
Very true! For this video I mentioned in the beginning that we allowed ourselves what we were wearing. It would be just about impossible to buy warm enough clothing AND enough other gear to survive in sub freezing temps for sure. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Log home builder, cowboy, and spent more nights outside camping than inside literally, all I ever use is insulated coveralls and wool blanket, coveralls replace sleeping bag, great in morning, just get up and go. Hygiene at night, dress in layers, coveralls are nice here in Colorado mountains while anywhere
@@MaxSand-i4n Nice call.
its scary how real it will get. like 0 to 100 in a blink of a eye. so many people will not be ready
SAS shows methods for "Super Shelters". Using the mylar as reflective to radiate the fire heat back onto you. I would have made a huge fire and it would have been much warmer.
Wow, I love videos like this. Looks like fun!!!😊❤
Cool
This is art.
Awesome❤😊
We need like a 4 hour full video on this!
Thanks for watching! Perhaps we will release a behind the scenes on this at some point. 🤓
hey this just a survival tip i saw on survival show on tv, place a few rocks in the fire, then bury them in the ground in your shelter, the heat from the rocks will keep you warm when your laying down in your shelter and those cheap metal cords you use for cutting branches dont last long, they break
Should have got two solid headlamps
We did actually! There was a whole kit that Joe got that had headlamps and penlights.
This is great, you should be stand it to other UA-camrs and/or subscribers
Awesome drone shots!
Thanks! Joe captured some cool stuff for sure!
Turn off the background music. Sometimes because of the music over your voice we don't understand what you are saying.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Came here again from the latest short
Awesome! Thanks for watching again!
@@grimgranite i watch a lot of your long form videos a lot many times even though ive watched them before, thats just how amazing they are!
This is amazing! I love it
Much appreciated! Thanks for letting us know.
@@grimgranite it really was

It looks so fun and i really loved watching it
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I have been thinking about creating a game and making it available… thanks for the feedback!
this is the coolest survival challenge that i found on youtube,i subscribed
That means a lot to us! Thank you so much!
Nice teaching skills👍
Well done!
Very cool video, thanks!!!
Thanks for being here!
This concept would make a great workshop for survival training. Or a neat TV show. 😂 Great job guys. 👍
Thanks so much! Would love to do more stuff like this!
Awesome video with lots of production value and thought provoking content…not only educational but also entertaining…like said by lots of the other comments this would be a worthwhile while series…keep up the great work 💯🤙🏽
I believe education should be entertaining, so that’s great to hear! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
This is such an amazing idea to test skills and knowledge. I liked how the challenges basically remind you of things you would forget about, too. Like not keeping food at ground level or just how important it is to have a fire. The life beads add a whole other dimension to it, too. Way to go guys, both for the video and beating the challenge!
Thank you for the kind words and for watching! As difficult as it was sometimes, it was a super fun experience!
Really like this video, hope there are a ton more in the future, great job fellas.
Thanks so much!
I love your videos
Thanks so much! I truly appreciate you being here!
I legit see a game being made out of this
We are in the process of making one, so stay tuned!
@@grimgranite WHAT
Second time asking for buck nobleman review
I don’t have a Buck Nobleman. 😅 If you want to send one, I would be happy to review it! Thanks for watching!
The apocalypse are the days of the wrath of God, there is no surviving the apocalypse, save for the purchase of the Lord
