I had a 231 in an 84 LeSabre and it was a total pile of 💩. No oil pressure, it knocked and I even put new bearings in it, a new oil pump front cover and it was absolutely amazing on what would go out next. The 3800 FWD was much better so this length of time they state is a lie. Until the 3800 came along it was garbage!
That's a stone age dinosaur pushrod with hydraulic lifters that's not the best engine. Even if it was it would be worthless without good automatic transmission behind it which it never had because gm can't build a good automatic transmission. There are so many engines that are better than that one I would not know where to start but I'll mention one Mercedes Benz OM617.
Nice video! In my opinion the Toyota 2UZ-FE 4.7 is the most reliable engine ever.

My Dad had a 231 cid 3.8 liter engine in a 1977 Pontiac Ventura.
It was the biggest piece of junk
