"This is the story of the Camaro ZL1, a car that should have never existed if it weren’t for some clever gaming of GM’s internal systems and a man hell bent on going racing."

I'm sorry mate but we both know GM only shut down Holden was because the Aussie's were engineering upgrades on the Commodore models of cars faster & better than GM itself.
So, they got sore butt syndrome & put the boot in & shut Holden down. But in saying that the Aussie's government itself wears blame here as well for not fighting for the brand like they should have at the time. This dirty little attack on Holden is why I will never purchase any GM or Ford product in my lifetime. Like with ford I have issue because of the new mustang as it's not safe enough to be a bloody road car as the first time it gets into a side impart accident everyone in the back seat will be hurt in some way something I have witnessed in nine accidents now. American standards are to poor till compared to Aussie or even NZ standards. My advice to GM & Ford is pick up the standards or watch sells nosedive bigtime in this part of the world same with America Parts as I have had to return so much shit in the last three years as its just not up to standard to keep doing business with them.
U def right ab that
Absolutely love your content bro! Some of the best car YT videos out on the internet!
One thing - can't help myself; but your pronunciation of Chaparral is incorrect.
My dad is old AF and has talked about those cars for years so I just grew up knowing the name and had to do a double-take when I heard you say it haha.
"Shap-er-el" is how it's said. Just a friendly correction man, zero hate.
You're a legend, just wanna pass along some info.
Keep it up bro! We all appreciate this more than you have any idea.
Can't wait to see you hit 1 million one day soon!
Every time 337 drops a video it feels like Christmas
Same! Lol
Cold hard facts🎉
I'm like damn it's been two months he gotta be ready to drop one!
His vids are really high quality
My favorite informational car Media
I’m a Ford guy & a Mustang owner but I’ve always respected the Chevrolet Camaro SS, 1LE, Z/28, & ZL-1
Yeah they're great cars, especially for the money.
I've always been an import guy (currently drive a '22 Supra, used to drive a '93 Rx-7, and '12 Genesis 3.8 Coupe). I *ALMOST* got an SS instead of my Supra but in the end, my import heart got the best of me lol. I still really like the Camaros though.
I'm the other way around, I'm a Mustang owner but i'm a Chevy guy at heart, I respect what they got lol
as cramped as the interior is the Camaros platform is beyond rigid and able to handle comparable if not more power then the corvette. the big wigs dont like it when the vette gets eclipsed. look at what happened to Pontiac and Buick when they did. one is dead and the other is for people who are almost dead.
I love both so much but definitely a mustang guy. my grandpa always wanted a old stingray corvette though so i think that trumps both
I like Holden’s 😉
As always, sir, another great video. It's definitely the most respectful way to show the true history of the ZL-1!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Growing up, my best friend's older brother had a 2002 Camaro SS 35th anniversary edition. I think it's what got me into the car scene. Now, over 20-ish year later, I own a white 6-speed 2019 ZL1 1LE. I get to show it off to my buddy's brother next month, finally completing the circle. Awesome video, makes me love my car even more.
How did it go bro i need a follow up
@@dridinidhal1561 We were gonna take it to a car show..... it was cancelled due to weather :'( . Shooting for another meet up sometime soon though
Hell heah man that's awesome... paying homage to your younger self as an adult is a damn good feeling. Many don't get to experience that. Enjoy showing off your car to your friends bro 🤙🏽
The man is a storyteller for sure. I could listen to these all day
Me too
Dude… I can’t explain how badass these videos are. I want you to be a millionaire for your work! 💪
Likewise. His videos are amazing
Babe wake up, 337 Speed just dropped another banger video
😂🙏🏽
Hahaha
The bade in question was a man😂
This comment has been done to death, resuscitated, and sone to death again.
GMs Corvette meat riding has killed so much creativity
I used to think it was American cars for the sound and European cars for the looks but damn some of these newer Corvettes and Camaros look incredible mixing aero and the classic style of their vehicles. Even the black SS Monte Carlo looks good because of how menacing and evil it is.
To me the true successor of the ZL1 was the 2014 to 2015 Z28 with the LS7
Basically is. Super low production numbers, forgotten, expensive… would be so badass to own one with a done up ls7 pushing 600+whp
Exactly! I was waiting for him to bring that up and disappointed when he never did
I think the Z28 with the 302 from 69 is more connected to that 2015...
@@CorrieGeorge A Camaro with a Ford motor?
Edit: never mind. Looked it up. Didn't know they existed.
@@peterb4143I did a job for a guy who owned an all blacked out 5th gen z28. He said it had head and cam work done to it headers and exhust also. I believe he said it was over 600whp. I remember leaving the job in my work van and he was leaving too shortly after us. He came up on us so fast it scared the shit out off me because it was so loud. He took a 90 degree turn to get on the highway and I swear it seemed like he was doing at least 60mph into the turn. Like it was nothing for the car.
Never stop making this series dude. You have a LOT of options to make videos about engines and cars!
Love how the important specs are summed up in a quick and concise manner, no fluff no nonsense, just the valuable facts. Subscribed
You always make me appreciate cars I never liked. Missed these videos!
That’s the ultimate goal of these videos🙏🏽
As past 4thgen FBody, 5thGen Camaro and current 6thGen Camaro owner, I always felt the platform was under appreciated by GM due to living in the shadow of the Corvette. The Alpha chassis is such an improvement that there’s no question why the Camaro GT4 was such a good platform in IMSA until it lost it’s homologation.
Zl1 LE is gonna be a tuner car in be the future just like the c6 z06
true but Hennessey already did that with the 1000HP, Dodge Demon killer Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1....the Exorcist is basically a Camaro on steroids
One of my favorite auto memories was when a friend got a new Z/28 in 2015. We were doing our monthly car meet in the canyons and through out the day he had given other people rides. We were all laughing when he pulled back up to drop the person off because every person that came out of the car had a shit eating grin across their face.
The fastest I've been in a car was that day. We were coming around a long sweeper and we were booking it. When we got to the parking spot I asked him about how fast we were going and he said "oh, idk. We basically topped out 3rd gear, so maybe 130?" I chuckled and got out of the car. My friend started laughing and asked "Why the grin?"
337 didn't even mention the dinner plate sized brakes in the front. The first time we had ever seen carbon-ceramic rotors. The car braked so hard, I could feel how thick the carpet was under my feet from the G's pushing me forward.
Also "flow-tie" is such a banger name for the cut-out badge in the grill.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend! I love this “Explained” series. I’m fascinated with cars and bikes. Your detailed breakdown and visual descriptions are top notch. You spread knowledge and love of motor vehicles. I can’t thank you enough.
Zl1 1le is best track car for bucks. Big v8, crazy aero and get lap time at nurburgring (7:16.040) for $72k.
Wow man you can read the brochure 😂😂😂
@mexicanakuma found the ford man.
@mexicanakuma If you're gonna be a worthless troll at least put some effort into it.
@@scottcolpitts8521 lmao
It's heavy af tho and $70k+ is a lot of cash to lose if you crash it, C5 Z06 for $25k is still the best bang for the buck
"Dupox nylon 66 or better known as plastic", yep that one got me
😂
Best car guy videos on UA-cam. Hands down.
I’m a major Coyote fanboy, a white ZL1 1LE will be in my garage someday. Such a sweet car and the last of a dying breed.
I am a Chevy guy, but my guilty pleasure are those Terminator Cobras! 😅
@@HorrorUberAlles can’t go wrong with a Termi or a GT350, my roommate is a Chevy guy and he loves both of them
Grew up Ford, found out about LS motors as an adult, prefer LS now, but the coyotes are impressive. None compare to what I get out of a carbed 2002 Ninja 636. You gotta appreciate all the good stuff.
The democrat party destroyed our great cars ,pushing there climate HOAX!!!!
Gt350 is the goat of Ford that most people don't even know about. A feat of engineering with that flat plane crank v8 that still has a muscle car sound due to its firing order and a specifically designed exhaust system. One of my favorite all time cars and I'm a diehard chevy guy myself. I have the 2011 ss camaro and my dream is the 2018 ZL1 1LE.
Anyone else think 337 is in a league of his own? Content is phenomenal!
Top notch quality upload! The ZL1 needs more recognition.
Find an old guy and have him teach you how to pronounce Chaparall. Then, buy him a beer and have him explain the Can-Am era to you.
THIS lol
And.........he said Ford Tunnel Ram.....I think he meant tunnel port.
This was a Fire presentation on the ZL1 I appreciate all the research you do that goes into these videos 🔥
The manual was not "optional" on the 6th generation ZL1, it was standard; for the first few years, the ZL1 1LE only came with a manual transmission.
Zora Arkus-Duntov is one of those men in history that deserves to be known with his whole name. Just like John Moses Browning.
AMEN
Great video. Perfect amount of information and visuals via actual footage and cgi, as well as clear and upbeat narration. Overall, great job.
ZL1 1LE is such an amazing Camaro…..it’s a shame GM didn’t give the Camaro a proper send off with a Z/28 LT6 engine
Can't say enough about this edition. Just sad that it's over. I could listen for an hr. I smile every time I see a new upload👍🏾
In 2009 I stood at a dealership in Austin TX looking at a 638 hp C6 New ZR1 120K or more. I'm a speed fanatic, I had a 1397cc hayabusa, (BMW1000RR had just come out/ I test rode one) chevelle etc. I thought to myself I will never be able to afford a new 638 hp car.
Well in 2012 the ZL1 5th gen came out, the 2nd gen camaro ZL1 580hp was impressive, but when I saw the 2018 ZL1/1LE come out, I said this is the time to jump in !
Now for 5 years, I have a ZL1/1LE All OEM parts added 6 speed manual with borla atak , CAI kit, and its almost paid for, next will be a 2650R and stage 3 cam.
Thanks to AL in his team a GM, the car is so good that the C7 ZR1 team took on it's look and even the C8's owe the 2017 and up ZL1 a big thank you.
I still have some other fast vehicles, a ZX14R, twin turbo chevelle, but Im so glad I got the ZL1 with 650 hp !
Another phenomenal video! Your editing skills and narration are off the hook. Born a raised in IL, I was in HS in the early 80’s and was fascinated with the story of this car and its Muncie “Rock Crusher” 4 speed manual.
These are the best researched, most informative car videos. Also love the simple clean design of the text/information. So nice. 🙌❤️
Hands down my favorite automotive channel at the current moment. I’m constantly watching the mixes and playlists. Love ur content brother ✊🏾✊🏾
Fun and informative video. Happy to see GMMG was mentioned. Thanks!
It's 1am here, but It's a 337 Speed video! 🎉Bedtime can wait!
I own a (now built and modified) 2017 Red Hot ZL1, and it has been the most amazing vehicle that I've ever had the privilege of being able to own. Comfort, class, aero, and tire melting power all on tap just sitting in my garage whenever I want. GM truly did knock it out of the park with these 6th gens and their Alpha chassis. Fantastic video!
Great video! Love the complete history of the mighty ZL1.
I'm glad you made this video I own a bulit 2019 zl1 camaro. I've been waiting on this video!!
Subbed man. You make great car related history documentaries. I love watching these and learning along the way
Dude, I’m really loving the way you make these vids. Very informative and addicting to watch. Good job my friend.
FINALLY!!! Been dying for more of your stuff man! Could watch it all day!
Ive been checking every day for the past 2 months for a post, the day I don’t you surprise us. Glad you’re back brother!
The production quality, editing, writing and voice performance of your videos are all off the scale! You do what you do better than anyone I've watched, and by a large margin.
I’m not even tryna glaze but 337 you are the goat at these car enthusiasts vids !
Great video! I am a huge ZL1 fan and never knew about the McClaren connection.
Thanks for the upload man been waiting ages for this, you gotta drop a rotary episode on the mazda rx series of cars
First class as always, man, especially the closing the monologue. Loved that you referred to it as, "...in a deep sleep." The Camaro will appear again, I'm sure, but in a very different guise. There is a rumour that GM will replace the Chevrolet brand with Cadillac in NASCAR, simply because they don't have anything else suitable with a Chevy badge that they can promote once the Camaro is gone.
I'm a big NASCAR fan, my favourite driver uses a Camaro, and seeing one of those make a name for itself on the international stage at Le Mans was such a proud moment.
Best video by far, wait was well worth it 👌
The quality of these videos is amazing. He deserves a tv show
Great video. This video was packed full of information I did not know. Thanks.
Love your videos, it’s my gateway to understanding the engine world!
Very well put together video, great job! Very professional.
Great video, man. Thank you for putting this together.
U do some great videos mate. Respect g👊🇦🇺
Very well done documentary. Keep making videos like this, that are well researched and I am many others will continue to watch your channel
337 together with hagerty made spot in my heart I didn’t even know I had cuz ohhh boyyyy the quality of these videos are insane and I would even say I would pay for this rather then paying for TV… please keep it up.
Great video explaining the ZL1 history, thank you so much.
i love watching these explained videos! so much fun to watch
GM did it again in 1989, when Pontiac released the underrated Turbo Trans Am with the Buick GN/GNX engine. It surpassed the Corvette in performance that year until the 1990 Corvette ZR-1 was produced.
Man, I just love your content, this was one of the best videos that I’ve seen so far. I hope you’re making a killing on UA-cam.
This dude always comes with the best facts and footage to back up the commentary. Grade A top notch.
As always great work!!
this is honestly the best way to learn about cars. your videos.
I really wish Chevy put more effort into saving the camaro. With the lazy design language in the last couple of years, It seemed like they wanted it to fail to justify the cancelation. No lt2 final call engine, its sad to see it go.
Ever since the new 6th gen Camaro was launched in 2016 it felt like GM hit it out the ball park.
With the 5th gen, the 6th gen just took it to another level. I remember when they brought it back with the 5th gen. The movie made it even better but man the 5th gen was amazing. Then came the 1le and ZL1. They just had that muscle car look and feel that everyone loved. Timeless design with a deep throaty engine sound.
Dude great video, I'd like to see more on the Can-Am cups. My grandpa raced in it and I want to learn more about the race, but I love the way you explain stuff.
Another great episode bro! Well done as always. Thank you for all of these awesome history lessons. My list of must own cars is expanding and my wife will hate it.
Man the quality of these videos and the animations man! I’m hooked on this UA-cam channel!!!
Thank you, excellent video library. You have a new subscriber!!!
Bro ... Your Videos are on point ....
well done 👍
Thank you for uttering Holden's sacred name in respect, rest in peace Australian automotive industry.
amazing video. The best, hands down!!
Tks man for thoses video. im buzzing everytime. And i remember when i was a kid the Camaro was build right here where i live in the city of Boisbriand Quebec province in Canada north suburb of Montreal !!! Im feel scary now that everything come to an end with all thoses icon who be discontinued for ever.... But it still live here in my garage doing an engine rebuild by myself with my own hand making some POWA !!!
The use of asseto corsa for b roll is so smart love the content always brotha👊
Mustang owner here, always had a soft spot for Camaros
Magnificent vid as always!!!
Great video. It really makes me appreciate my garage queen, a 2022 ZL1. Hoping to keep her for a long time!

Another great video man
We need a last gen GTO/Monaro video
For those who can't wrap their heads around what he said, "modern day equivalent" is taking a 2023 2SS of about $44k and adding an option package thats x 1.6 the base price.
$44k + $74.4k = $114.4k
look man..... you cant just leave us hanging this long....lol love the content KEEP EM COMING
Deal!
This feel like a new episode from your fav show dropping
