How to Create a Smoke Simulation in Eevee
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 бер 2019
- In this Blender 2.8 tutorial we will be creating a smoke simulation using the new render engine Eevee! We first start by creating the domain and setting up a simulation. After that comes the materials and render settings. If you made something cool by the end of this tutorial make sure to send it to me over on instagram! @blendermadeeasy
Here is the video I mentioned about smoke resolution.

We just recently hit 10,000 subscribers! That's pretty crazy. Thank you all for the support! If you have other tutorial suggestions just replay to this comment and I might make a video about that topic. Also if you want feel free to join my discord discord.gg/2YcMjXK You can use this channel to share blender artwork, ask questions and talk with other 3D artists. Thanks guys!
how to determine transience of suspension for the lower and lower concentration of smoke particles in such a fixed space aside the main sufficiently high-concentration boundaries
Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I'm in my second week of learning blender and I have found this tutorial to be clearly presented and very well paced as a result it was easy to follow. Definitely subbing and hoping that all your videos are as quality as this one.
I did everything exactly like you, except for the difference that I did not activate the high resulotion box, because it somehow doesn't exist for me (Blender Version 2.82.7). And now my animation looks completely shit. Can anyone help me and explain how I can solve the problem. Please excuse my bad english these are just google translator skills.
I realize Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online ?
@Grey Abram Try Flixzone. You can find it on google =)
Bro this is so realistic like it started comming out of my graphics card and cpu thanks so much
I mean, it's simulated by the CPU and GPU sooo
Ahahahahaha
hahahaha :D
@@ReaZaaa hahahahahaahahhh
Bro jajajajajaja
Help the smoke is coming out of my cpu
OMG LOLL
jaja jaja jaja
LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA xD I was frustrated because is nor tendering but you made me laugh out loud xD hahahahahahah thanks! hahahahahaha
hahahahahahha
I actually had no idea about the sequence editor there at the end, so thank you very much. That will actually help out a lot.
Thank you for the share and refreshing stuff for me with 2.8. Was seeking for good and straightforward tut, and that's it. Keep on easy Blender Made Easy!
good tutorial !
it takes me a day and half to follow every step, now it's gonna take about 4hrs to render the final results.
i'm pretty sure it's gonna be good.
thanks! Blender Made Easy
no kidding it took me 2 hours
Usually I don’t like lengthy tutorials. But somehow you make them very interesting.
16 minutes is short...
Oh my god! They finally fixed the smoke simulations :D thanks to your video, i can now play with it. Thanks for the great tutorial
Maybe it will help someone. In blender 2.93, you will find the high-resolution tab in the noise tab.
Thanks! You're the best
Superb!! Thanks for the great tutorial! Helped a ton!!!!
This was an absolutely awesome video! Thanks
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!! One of the best and detailed tutorials!!!! God bless you
He didn’t sneeze
Ive browsed a lot of tutorials and it gets frustrating when people go at a slow pace and explain the basics over and over. This however is straight to the point and informative with a great result. Im Definatley subscribing ! great work and keep it up please !
"Once you have it unzipped and ready to go."
My inner manchild had to giggle there
Lol ;p
Uhhh...
*(Crazy human noises)*
Good demo, thanks for your time.
this is exactly what i was looking for, thank you.
thank you for explaining IMAGE SEQUENCE, and how to render animation
Very nice explanation thankyou so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very useful information for the render settings
Great tutorial and just on point! Thanks a lot!! and congrats to your 10,166 subscribers!
I really liked this tutorial
Thanks a lot! Great tutorial.
Awesome, Thanks!
WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!pls keep going!!!!
Cool stuff!!!
Could you make tutorial about making spritesheet out of that smoke to use in Unity Or Unreal Engine.
Is it possible to loop such effects in blender for that matter?
Cheers!!!

Your waisting valuable pc ram by using a subdiv to smoothen that plane
All you need to do is select a corner edge , ctrl b ( bevel ), drag and scroll middle mouse button to make it round ( subdivided )
No need for a subdivision modifier
What's great is now that 2.8 is out, you can use the Bevel shader!
the Bevel shader won't work with Eevee, and the bevel shader is not made to make large bevels like this one
why am i not seeing any smoke
Nice! Thanks a bunch.
Thank you for the video it helped me
Thank you very much. Subscribed
*Amazing.*
great tutorial! would you consider updating it so we can follow along in the latest version of blender? many of the settings have been moved around or changed and trying to follow your exact steps creates completely different results
Thank you!
Smooooooookin' coffee break at 6:52
Thank you so much. Can i use this method in cycles render engine? This tutorial was so helpful 💖💖💖
For those of you on Blender 2.83 to 2.9 the High Resolution is the Noise Box that's below the Dissolve Box
*NOTE: High Res might not work depending on your system as of right now.*
Thank you man.
This looks more like a monster made of smoke but it looks cool!
Thanks for the tutorial.
I just don't see the need for eevee or smoke/fluid, unless I just want to doodle around and make projects for fun.
Until eevee is more stable and features shadow catching (motion tracking too) that works, it's just a tool to study blender's physics.
I'm confused by the scaling and repositioning of the domain at 1:09. When I do that, the area of smoke also scales and moves. How did you make it so the smoke stays where it is when you adjust the size and position of the domain?
Thank you 🙂
Great video! Although on 15:15 I would change video output quality to at least "High", cause it will really save details, especially in such type of video as smoke simulation.
AMAZING TUTO! finally something that doesnt used cycles 'nd the steam looks really good too! but just a question -
why didnt you just exported the animtion as an mp4 file but as an image sequence just to convert it into an mp4 file again...
didnt understand that part but overall awesome video
What software are you using to display the mouse clicks and keyboard presses?
Could I do this (simulations in general) with a 1060 ti? Or do I needa upgrade? I havent even tried to do this yet just wondering so I dont waste my time
Good Tutorial!
It's possible to reduce in Volumetric the Tile Size to 1px? I would like to have more detail on the smoke.
Just crank up those details lol, how many pixels it will actually take up depends on how close you are to the subject when rendering
awesome tutorial, suscribed, is there a way to limit smoke ramp colors?? like only 4-5 colors im tring yo achieve a pixelart look.. since im combining a pixelart stuff with it.
What kind of pc do u have and how long it took to bake?
I am not sure what is wrong here but with 150 res and high res set @ 2 it takes me an hour to get 50 % of bake which is already 10 GB? Is it normal? (6700k and gtx970)
If you move the plain with keyframes, back and forth, will it make a puff effect on the smoke ?
Do you have an updated version for this smoke effect with blender 2.82 I think there are some settings that have been changed?
so far,( ive only gotten to 3:19) heat diffrence --> heat
Oh also if this helps there is a new style of baking that’s called replay if you missing bake it’s because that is on
Hi, a question when I create the smoke system "I am using Blender 2.8", if I am allonatano with the camera view the effect is not more visible a few meters away despite the camera clip is set to several KM.
This problem affects only the smoke and not the other objects that remain visible.
Do you know if there is any parameter to increase to solve this problem?
You should change the distribution setting of your volumetrics, it will put more quality close to the camera, where your smoke is
Awesome tutorial, thanks!
Btw, what is the name of the keyboard/mouse click recording program/overlay you're using?
Ansen Photos it's an add-on in Blender.
Screencast Keys I think
hey thanks for the great tutorial, there is something i would like you to help me in, i want the smoke to be placed as a fog in a landscape environment, and i have a plane animation that will go throw and interact with it, can you help me ?
Why Blender not show rendering progress bar in EEVEE ? In Cycles everything its ok
Does this method work for cycles as well? Like if I get an animation looking good using these steps and then switch rendering engines would it have a completely different effect?
following
Man thanks for the tutorial, I have a question if you can help me, I have the animation from frame 1 to 250, and I want to use the result of the frame 250 in all my time line, I mean the frame 1 have the same result of my frame 250, I do not know how to do that, if I apply the modifier smoke the result disappear. Thank you.
The answer is 42... Its always 42.
i tried to render it but it just came out as the plane floating in front of my background even though i set it so the plane wouldnt be visible (edit) ok now i see the smoke but i cant hide the plane
That's damn good quality tut. Thank you for sharing.
I'm not sure where I went wrong, but anytime I play the prerendered animation the smoke is barely there. Also the place I saved the baked images didn't show them, but they show up in file manager.
In Evee the shadow dont appears on the floor ? or the are some trick tomake this work ? thx in advance :)
in render view all i see is foggy default cube ghost when in solid view i can see smoke simulation normaly does it mean my hardware dont support volumetric smoke ?
I've done this three times now and I believe I've done things correctly. However, after baking when I hit the play button the smoke is realistic and conforms to the force field and collides on all sides but it runs at round one frame per five seconds or a crawl. Then the program crashes and puts me out of operation. what could I be missing? I then have to force a program manager to shut it down and abort. Your instructions are fine and I think my graphics card should be able to handle it. Any suggestions? Would cycles or eevee cause this?
again correct me if i am wrong please. if you set the render output to Targa and not PNG, it will increse your render time with none notable diffrends, by my experience but i just found this method to use for me so i mid be wrong
Жаль английского не знаю, но понимаю, что тут все объясняется достаточно досконально.. вроде повторить урок смог, спасибо! 🤝
Great tutor. Could you please explain what should we set to decrease smoke at the end of frame. I mean the smoke start increase then it slowly decrease before ending. Thanks
The Dissolve setting could work for that.
I noticed it is pretty blurry, especially when you zoom in, any way to combat this without destroying your pc?
Question, does it also work using Cycles?
Hey, my domain is just a grey box, what do I have to do to see that neat smoke plume?
Antiloompa Smoke domain> settings > bake data
Great video! Just one question, where is the epic music?
The interface in v 4.0 is a bit different. I think the "behaviour" settings might be under "Plain" in it, from checking, although Im not sure if its the same thing. V4 has a CFL setting in Smoke Domain but not a "Behaviour" one - though a "Flow Behaviour" one is under Plain when the Smoke Domain is used. There is a "Border Collisions" setting in v4 but its by "front" "back" etc, rather than "Collide All". I assume then I should select "Front", "Back" etc? Also I cant find the "Bake" in V4. Any idea where it is? I also don't see "High Resolution". Thanks., Great tutorial though.
Cool!!! :c)
how do you make it rotate at :34? mine wont do it
hi thanks for the tutorial. But why I still see the Smoke Plane and its shadow when I render the image. Can I. make it invisible and just see the smoke flowing out? thanks again!
what version of blender 2.8 are you using? you need to disable the render of the smoke plane in the outliner. He does it at 14:09
Hi I made perfect dust storm after this tut, just one hurdle i dont see it when i move it behind the scene as clouds supposed to. I tried different location but it doesnt work anywhere but front. any suggestion thanks
I think you have to adjust your camera start and end clip value.
2:50 Ok I'm having a problem here, since nor the turbulence or the wind seems working on the smoke, it just animate like before you put'em.... is there something I'm missing? @_@
Cool....
Hi, after baking by activating the volumetric I can barely see a small patch of smoke in Evee. How can I do?
I have a smoke simulation on a plane. Looks good but I cannot cast shadows And I do not think I am seeing this either in your example. Is this possible yet with beta 2.8
Apparently it's not possible at the moment. Here's a good list about limitations in Eevee: docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/render/eevee/limitations.html (I don't know when this was last updated but it serves as a guideline). Some of the features "aren't implemented yet" but it doesn't say that about volumetrics. Maybe it's a fundamental problem and cannot be implemented. I doubt that, though, since there are ways to "hack" the shadow into the ground, at least. :P They're not pretty solutions, probably, but you could try this method for example:
1) Render out the smoke.
2) Create a plane and put the image sequence as its texture.
3) Then use this method: imgur.com/iWPhzEI
4) And make sure that the material settings on the rightmost menu are set so that the "blend mode" isn't opaque and the "transparent shadows" option has hashed or clip selected.
All in all that's quite a hassle because you have to basically rerender the whole thing. But heh :D I wanted to try if there's a way to create a material that's invisible to the camera and now I at least know one way.
How long did it take you to bake...mine seems forever...and can you do this in cycles mode? Thanx in advance. I'm also a newbie and this is my second project and like the way you teach.
I recorded this tutorial a couple months ago so I do not remember how long it took but I am guessing from the settings around like 20 minutes or so. Also thanks for the compliment! :)
@@BlenderMadeEasy I lost it at the point where on the second plane , when hitting control R to move the plane it wouldnt work.
This is great! Have you fixed the link for your Instagram yet? This one points to another youTube video. Thanks.
whatever i try i get no smoke in viewport or render ? what could be the issue?
Im following the instructions witht he force field and the turbulence but the smoke just keep shooting directly upwards as if I didnt put any forece fields.. can anyone help
?
I have my renderer set to Eevee, however when i play the animation the smoke will not render, its driving me mad lol. I created a plane, i put the quick effect smoke on it. Then play the animation, no smoke renders. Any idea why?
Sean Amador volumetric tab on evee
Sir when I add Quick smoke the smoke block is already appear like not yours and when I scale it, it also change like the way I scale it.Like It doesn't not depend on the paper that added
Question on smoke.. how do i make the smoke go to a point from emitter object to another object, which is the best method/forcefield?
you can use a curve guide, you can also make a particle system emit smoke and follow the curve guide
The force fields aren't affecting my smoke domain. Can a kind soul tell me how I could go about solving this problem?
for some reason I cant find the temperature difference option pls help (I'm on blender 2.91 btw :)
I'm confused, what is the plane for? Seems like all the physics settings are already in the box?
Thanks for this video ! But I have a problem : after 1 minute and 32 seconds of this video, I shoud normally have "basic" smoke, so I followed every steps made in the video but I don't have any smoke…! Does anyone know this problem ?
as someone else said elsewhere in the comments: 'you can't just play it, you have to first click "Bake Data" on the Smoke Domain > Physics tab (blue dot with small orbiting dot icon) > Bake Data'
Good video but the render take up a freaking long time my laptop is playing its getting hot in here by itself !
when i edit the domian it breacks complettly
best
when i hit play after creating a quick smoke effect, nothing is happpening. Not even a smoke shows up. What should i do about it ?
Hi people keep mentioning press W in various different tutorials & it doesn't do anything on mine, downloaded the latest one on the wbsite, 2.8 or 2.81? & also I don't have a middle mouse btn? or i do but its for Cpi Also doesn't do anything...
3:53 the high resolution is like the children in the particle system? a higher number means more particles but also a higher number of children.... is this correct? :)
How do you play the sequence of the smoke?
Finger Up, and sub. Could You do tut, how to make, smoke simulation, with thunder flashing inside, fire flash inside??
Agreed
QUICK TIP!!!: for those who have thin fog (almost invisible) on EEVEE and get the density up a lot without changes, just look for the distance parameter (start - end) and scale it down on the volumetrics config.
How much was the render time?
Hi great video, I dont have a button to turn on volumetrics. I can turn on shadows, any suggestions? thanks
Matt D yeah same here I think he’s using an earlier version of 2.8
@@lukas_g243 same here
simulation visible only in solid viewmode.. in render eevee black domain cube shows and cycle only emitter shows.
no smoke in render view..
how to fix it?
