Blender 3 Quad Remesher JRemesh Addon

- JRemesh is a new Blender addon for quad based remeshing. You can add modifiers like the Multiresoultion Modifier to Quad-based meshes which is not possible when using voxel remesher. Then these meshes can be used for instance in a hardsurface sculpting workflow.

So as I wrote on github, one library that you use in this is only for windows. So this addon can't be used for Mac or Linux machines. Just an fyi.

I found out about Instant Meshes just yesterday and was thinking of trying to make a wrapper for it to use in Blender, guess you beat me to it! Can't wait to try this out, thanks for the addon!

0:21 these files need to be extracted to a folder on your hard drive(i.e. My Documents) then once the JRemesh addon has been installed, you need to look at it's description. There is a drop down arrow that needs you to locate the Instant Meshes folder for it. Then you're ready to rock n roll.

I anserted my own question. I had to unzip the instant mesh and point the location to the actual application. Worked like a charm. Thank You!

I was just thinking of trying that paid quad remesher addon, then i saw this.
This is nice. I tried this already and it works, but i think on simple meshes only.
When i tried it on more complex meshes, about 110,000 vertices, an error pops up.
If the error does not pop up, it will just remesh and copy just a part of the original mesh.
Lastly, i hope it will consider symmetry in the next version.

Yes, quad remesher is amazing. Altough I have it,, I am still using Instant Meshes and also Quadriflow for some of my hardsurface remeshings because it sometimes suprises me with great results :-)

I'm confused as to why I'm getting artifacts when I'm doing the same thing as you are in this video with the cube. The remesher (instant meshes) is for some reason taking bites out of the edge/artifacting.

The quadriflow option in the addon doesn't seem to do anything other than duplicate my mesh with a different name, am I missing something here?

@@JayAnAm This Remesh is wonderful, it works better than the one that comes with Blender.I only found one bug: when I use Deterministic + Boundaries (Open Mesh no N-gons) with low number of vertices, for example 5000 it throws error. And when I disable the Boundaries option this error goes away even though the result is not the same on these edges.

I copy-pasted the whole sequence of steps but you can skip to 4)
1) [Cmd + , ] Open Blender Preferences
2) Go to Add-ons, search for "JRemesh"
3) Expand the JRemesh Add-on and find at the bottom of the path to "Instant Meshes Application"
4) Navigate to the Instant Meshes.app and manually fix the path to the following: "Instant Meshes.app/Contents/MacOS/Instant Meshes"

I am a little condused. I open it in J remesher first? Then is it somehow linked through that to blender? I have the addon installed and managed to opem my dense obj mesh in J remesher. Maybe someone can help me. I have a lot of heavy CAD models I need to open in BLender. Any help would be very welcome.

So the biggest problem I have with instant meshes is that it does not do symmetry, if you can solve that then you can be king of blender for the entire month of April. And the thing I hate about the blender implementation of quadremesher is that after remeshing it leaves annoying holes in the mesh, however it does for some reason do things symmetrically.
how do you fix the holes?

I can verify that it now works. Just make sure your path to instant meshes is "/Applications/Instant Meshes.app/Contents/MacOS/Instant Meshes"

@@bryanbrunsell5832 You install Instant Meshes just like any Mac App. Into your Applications folder. Then you have to point to the app in the addon.
What does "JRmesh: [Winerror 193] %1 is not valid Win32 application" mean? I'm using blender verson 3.5.1. I don't think i'm linking the instant meshes executable file correctly in the preferences. Is it a .py file or the instant meshes zip file?
Fixed it. I originally did not download the binaries. I downloaded the master zip. Which did not contain the .exe

it doesn't load the zip binaries directly into the jremesh addon, unzip it first and load the executable file
Hi! I installed the addon and put the instant meshes zip in the preferences but it doesnt work and gives me an error, but i noticed in the installation screenshots that you have to put the .exe in it but im not able to find it in the folder? I'm confused on what I did wrong
nevermind im a dumbass, I downloaded the Instant Meshes from the Code button like with the addon, and I should've downloaded it from scrolling down and clicking on the "Microsoft" like you showed in the video. I assumed it would've been the same thing, apparently not :p

When they removed proprietary solving library (Gurobi). They start working on it in a couple of months.

Instant meshes is the application that does the quad based remeshing. JRemesh is just the integrating addon for Blender that calls the Instant Meshes app. In the next version Quadriflow will be integrated as well.

@@JayAnAm The biggest problem I have seen with quadriflow is that it leave gaps in the resulting mesh which have to be closed manually, I hope you can resolve that with your addon.

@@JayAnAm Ah, i need to select the zip file, but now i get another error, WinError 193, 1% is no valid windows32 application (I am running a 64bit system). on blender 3.3 alpha. maybe blender version to new? update: Error also on blender 3.0

To point to the Instant Meshes application, you need to unzip the files(Instant Meshes and dataset) 0:21 to a folder. Then point to that Instant Mesh folder under Blender preferences JRemesh Addon(should be a down arrow under the addon description).
I can't seem to get this to install. Using Blender 2.8 but when I click remesh it keeps saying Can't find path to Instant Meshes is missing.
If I try to use the Quadriflow I get an error about something on Line 141
Followed the instructions on the Github and the same issue.
Tested the instructions in Blender 3.0 and it works but it doesn't work for 2.8 which is what I need. Please update the add-on for 2.8! :)

[Fixed it] I should have read it better. I needed to download the .exe file from Instant Meshes, NOT the WinRar Archive. I´ll let my comment stay here if someone has the same issue.

Hi, i downloaded instant meshes and JRemesh and installed it after the instructions you wrote on your GitHub. I added the Instant Meshes .Rar archive to the preferences of JRemesh. If i click the Remesh button blender gives me the Error "JRemesh: [WinError 193] %1 is not a valid Win32 application". What can i do to fix that issue? I can´t find anything related to that error message online :/

So I just got the newest version of the addon and blender quadriflow doesnt work, it just makes an exact copy of the model you are trying to remesh.
Which is the exact version you are using because I fixed a bug for quadriflow recently.
This is super cool not working for me on Mac tho :(

Following the installation process on osx is a nightmare. I paid for the addon but i'm yet to see it running on my blender 3.2.1.
I've installed the addon.
i've installed the Instant Meshes Remsh addon and even tried to connect to both .exe, .app and .py files as described in the documentation.
This is what i get when i try to run the remesher
JRemesh: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/path/to/addon/B28_InstantMeshesRemesh.py'
It does the same with any of the alternatives placed in the filepath field in preferences.
