I love this gen's starters. Infernape is a legend, like his inspiration Sun Wukong, Empoleon has one of the most amazing dual typings ever, and Torterra is an awesome tribute to the mythology of the World Turtle. I'm so glad the postgame makes it possible to have all three on your team without doing trade olympics.
Empoleon’s entire line is based on royalty with the final evo being a nod to Napoleon Bonaparte (aka French Emperor).

This is one of my favorite starter trios but if I’m being honest, empoleons typing is terrible. Steel imo doesn’t complement water well at all. What were once resistance to fire and a strong matchup to ground suddenly go away only for grass to be neutral and fighting to be a weakness.
@@steveneumann9011 Bruh what are you talking about? Empoleon's typing is one of the best. He gains resistance to 11 different types and no 4x damage.

A few things that you can do to save some time:
You can find Roselia in the Grand Underground as soon as you have access to it, so there’s no need to catch a Budew and evolve it with friendship (plus, there’s a chance it will have the egg move Extrasensory if you’d rather use Shadow Ball on Gardevoir since it’s less risky against psychic types). Roselia will also learn Giga Drain at level 30 if you wait to evolve it.
For Houndoom, there’s a biker in the southwest of Veilstone City that you’ll pass on your way to Maylene’s gym. Talk to him, and he’ll give you some Nasty Plot TMs.

Personally I don’t think it’s necessary to have two normal types so for that reason I’d make the team the same except switch staraptor for togekiss and make the gardevoir a gallade. That way you get a lot of the same coverage while also maximizing type diversity
Use garchomp instead of snorlax it literally covers the same types but with a higher speed and attack stat
what moves would be recomended for togekiss, gallade, and garchomp?
Empoleon’s resistance’s and being a bulky special sweeper is what makes it one of my favorite Pokémon of all time. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a Emperor as well. It’s just cool af.
I kept my Piplup unevolved. There's just something hilarious about beating Cynthia with 5 pokemon and 1 cute baby penguin pokemon. They're my stealth rock setter and defog user if I need either. With drill peck and hydro pump. Because again. Winning with a baby penguin using hydro pump just tickles me

One move I appreciated on Empoleon was Aqua Jet. As the only priority move on my team, it came in clutch when facing Pokémon that outsped my entire team, particularly when they have Speed investment (cough, Pokémon League, cough).
In my Empoleon build I got around that with lots of bulky strength and defense
My empoleon was surf, flash cannon, ice beam, and aqua jet and I loved it. Great coverage and both stab with priority

Am I the only one that prefers the high damage of Hydro Pump instead of surf. I don’t mind the lower accuracy.
I love this team, and about half your team is the ones I went with. Empoleon was my starter and went with Roserade, Honchkrow, Gallade, Snorlax, and Garchomp.
My Empleon had basically the same moveset, however I kept Aqua Jet over Grass Knot as it has STAB and Priority, which came in handy at times during my playthrough.
Mine is exactly the same. Plus, when I find an Ability Patch, I can swap out Torrent for Defiant, which boosts that physical Attack stat up two stages every time someone else lowers its stats. Aqua Jet perfectly works with that ability over Grass Knot. Plus, with slow speed as what Empoleon has, it NEEDS that priority move!

You can also get Flamethrower in Fuego Ironworks. It’s actually quite easy when you memorize the spinny arrow puzzle.
I went in blind and had a lot of trouble since so many of the E4 plus cynthia use earthquake. I limped through and then got annhilated by Garchomp.
This helped me a lot to rebuild, a lot of other team videos just assume you chose infernape. Second time around I swept most of E4's pokemon and swept Cynthia with a boosted Roserade. I didnt take the time to find a shiny stone first round, but it made a huge difference. Thanks a bunch for the video and tips!

I used Drill Peck on my play through Empoleon. I know it’s more of a Special attacker, but I feel like the Flying coverage benefits it more than the Grass coverage from Grass Knot
the thing is the flying coverage doesn't do much in the later games. It's great for Gardenia though. Grass Knot helps it run over Bertha entirely and Cynthia's Gastrodon.
That’s true, but fighting is a weakness Empoleon comes across more often than water, but your argument is valid.
@@HANSIMUSMAXIMUS thing is there's no reason and it'll be unwise to even use empoleon against a fighting type that isn't weak to water or steel.
You can also put on Earthquake for Empoleon to get Ground coverage, plus put Drill Peck to get coverage against Fighting type and lastly to deal with it other weakness that is Ground you can just run Surf and/or Ice Beam on it
With Torterra edition, I definitely recommend Magnezone as a team member somewhere. It has the sheer power to destroy most things with STAB alone, and Thunder Wave is a solid tech option for whenever.
I've been watching this channel for a bit now, since I got BDSP. I think you criminally underrate Crobat. GOATed Atk and Spd, and I currently have mine with Cross Poison, X Scissor, Giga Drain, and Air Cutter. Good coverage alternative to Staraptor. More folks need to join the Crobat gang.

You know originally I was using Gardevoir for my team but after getting the sixth badge and watching your previous BT video I went and caught me Cleffa and evolved it into Clefable to use.
And honestly I think it was for the best since Gardevoir can't take hits like Clefable. Hell it tanked two Poison Jabs (without the affection benefit) from Cynthia Garchomp and it won me the battle with a Moon Blast.
I'm probably alone on this, but I really like Flame Charge on Houndoom. Gives you a way to fix his middling speed while still putting out damage. Then again, I'm also running Destiny Bond on mine, so speed control becomes more useful there.
Nice team for Empoleon the team is so diverse. I like how Houndoom and Snorlax were included there. I’m looking forward to the best team for Torterra next!

The one Move I always use on Empoleon is Surf as Empoleon's Sp. ATK is so high it does good damage even to nuetral resistant types. So my Empoleon looks like Hydro Pump or Scald, Surf, Flash Cannon, and Ice Beam with a Modest Nature and a Wave Plate. And with that you have a decent coverage for most types with 3 out of the 4 being type bonuses.
Tbh, if you need a Flying type, I'd use something else(Togekiss, Vespiquen, Crobat, Noctowl, etc.) so that you have better STAB attacks. Also, I'd replace Gardevoir with some sort of Ice type to deal with Flying types and replace Snorlax with Garchomp because Ground types are helpful.
I love how this is the exact team i used in my first playthrough, except i played Luxray and later Garchomp instead of snorlax

I love all the starters of this gen, but Empoleon was by far my favorite. My team in Brilliant Diamond ended up being:
Empoleon (water/steel)
Houndoom (fire/dark)
Electivire (electric)
Togekiss (fairy/flying)
Garchomp (dragon/ground)
Gengar (ghost/poison)
Before I got Garchomp, I had an Alakazam, but I found he was a bit redundant with Togekiss and Gengar and I needed a physcial attacker. Also never actually used Garchomp before so I wanted to try it out. Best decision I made all playthrough.
I used the Best Team for D/P in my first play through and Cynthia worked me a few times and then I found out that they’re programmed to be basically perfect mons, so there’s that lmao

@@JP-2303 she actually doesn’t have togekiss anymore! she has spiritomb, roserade, gastrodon, milotic, lucario, and garchomp. i don’t remember if she had togekiss on her pearl/diamond teams, but i remember she had one on her platinum team. but also, i definitely recommend using this team and finding a gible in the underground. i also wanted some spice on my team, so of course i had to incorporate some of her team onto my team
@@caileighk2806 True. 3* out of 6 are. I played more Platinum than Diamond/Pearl back in the day, which is why I remember her to have Togekiss. These remakes are based on D/P which is why she has Gastrodon instead.

I've got a similar Empoleon but with Aqua jet, houndoom as a mixed attacker, invested in a togekiss which has grass knot to provide coverage for rock types and cynthias gastrodon. Then I've got Garchomp (nuff said), Luxray, and lucario. I find togekiss and Empoleon bulky enough to last and the others have such crazy attack stats that a STAB and/or swords dance/nasty plot is enough
Fun fact: if you work at security at a samsung store you will be a guardian of the galaxy
I really like this team, includes my favorite Flying type, Normal type, Grass type and Psychic type, as well as two Pokemon I've always wanted to use in a playthrough. This is the team I'll try to build, with some alterations, when I get BD or SP.
I would say replace grass knot for drill peck if you want coverage against fighting types
6:51 I actually used this method in Shining Pearl to get 2 shiny stones to get both Roserade and Togekiss on my team. Didn’t take too long to get the second one after I got my first one. And the first one did take some time but not much
But I did wait to evolve my Roselia till it was level 30 so I can get Giga Drain without having to get the TM or move relearner. (And I believe I got to that level first time I got to hearthome)
I'm in my first playthrough of Brilliant Diamond (haven't played a Pokemon game in a minute), and my team is so inefficient, but I love them. I have Empoleon, Gyarados, Luxray, Rapidash, Staraptor, and Bronzong.
What I love about this game is the auto XP Share from every battle.
Idk if it's normal or not, but it seems like I got lucky with my Gyarados' Attack attribute; it's nearly matching its HP.
I'm always running Empoloen since it's my favorite starter. Was running basically the same team, but instead of Snorlax, I choosed Gligar. It's a beast, great against the entire Elite Four.

This one’s really similar to my last platinum play through.
-Empoleon (my original and favourite starter) with surf, flash cannon, ice beam and aqua jet
-Staraptor with fly, brave bird, close combat and return
-Roserade with sludge bomb, giga drain, toxic and leech seed
-Garchomp with earthquake, dragon claw, rock slide and swords dance
-Gallade with leaf blade, night slash, psycho cut and close combat
-Houndoom with flamethrower, dark pulse, nasty plot and thunder fang

-backup/placeholder gyarados with waterfall, crunch, dragon dance and ice fang
Then the MVP bibarel for HMs
That was literally my BDSP team bar Houndoom (I had Froslass instead)
I picked a really similar team too, but I switched Staraptor with Togekiss

Honestly I think it would be a good idea to try for a ground type for the last gym. If it was me I’d go with garchomp and if you don’t wanna raise up a gible after the 6th gym then you can always go for a geodude early
I’m watching this after I already played through with Empoleon and my move set was ice beam, grass knot, flash cannon, and surf. Not the best water type move, but I needed to replace bubble beam.

Why wasn’t Magmortar mentioned?? It’s tough getting a magmarizer, but throw thief on something, grind a little, and you have one of the best mixed attackers with great move coverage in the game.
I was lucky enough to catch my first Magby with it holding a Magmarizer. And a nature that wasn’t too bad lol.

This is basically your rival's team if you pick Chimchar, except replace Houndoom with Rapidash and replace Gardevoir with Herracross
12:17 When I was planning out my team for Shining Pearl, I was kinda struggling on what to do with my last two Pokémon cause I needed Ice, Ground, and Dark or Ghost (I didn’t really think I needed Fire because I was putting Flamethrower on Togekiss, which I still ended up doing btw) and I was originally going go with Weavile and Gallade (and give it Earthquake and Rock Slide for coverage) but then I thought “Maybe Houndoom and Mamoswine will be better” but I did go with Houndoom and Mamoswine. But when I was looking for a good nature on Houndoom I found one with Thunder Fang but I had to settle with a Naughty nature though (because it was taking too long and they were pretty hard to catch because all I had were normal Pokéballs)
But the only problem is I can’t figure out what to use for the last move though, and I don’t want to use a status move. I might go with Iron Tail.
Houndoom with Beat Up + King’s Rock is underrated imo, plus it’s just that funny

I got my switch a couple months ago and I’m a life long Pokémon player but the last game I had was ultra moon. I just started BD and my current team (all between lvl 39-41) is Emp, Houndoom, Drapion, Mew, Gligar, and Luxray. I’m planning on swapping Lux at some point for something else and maybe Gli too. Edit* ultra moon was the last game I played before getting the switch, I also played let’s go and Arcues before starting BD, I’m about 7 hours in.

Hey Mystic, just curious but with the pickup pachi’s why not do Gallade instead of Gard? For the stab fighting and OP psychic stab, I’m just curious but with Roserade having DG and being super special that fairy moves were covered. Just picking your brain 🧠

I revived my team from original Diamond.
That being Empoleon, Luxray, Crobat, Golem, Gallade and Gardevoir.
Just glad they changed up the underground so I didn’t have to wait til after the Pokemon League to get my twin Ralts.
Finally, a vid on Empolion, that's who I'm using on Shining Pearl (Infernape on Brilliant Diamond), & I know I'mma' use Mismagius & Jirachi, but the other member Idk 'bout bein' atm Crobat, Drapion, & Toxicroak...

That's the same team I made when I started to play one month ago, with exception for Snorlax, I used a shiny Luxray
This was already my team but I used this video as a guide for movesets. I can sweep the E4 pretty easy, Cynthia puts up a tough fight but it all goes to shit by the time I get to garchomp. His earthquake destroys almost the entire team and the love mechanic doesn’t even show its face during the battle, not once lol. I’ve lost to that damn thing 4 times now

I went with an interesting team with Empoleon because I got incredibly lucky with my first Honey Tree and got a Heracross, a Pokemon I always wanted to use for a playthrough. I went with:
Empoleon: Surf, Flash Canon, Ice Beam, Grass Knot
Staraptor: Brave Bird, Close Combat, U-Turn, Roost
Drapion (as a Tank Build with Battle Armor): Cross Poison, Toxic, Knock Off, Thunder Fang
Houndoom: Flamethrower, Snarl (for Sp Atk debuffing), Sludge Bomb, Nasty Plot
Heracross: Close Combat, Megahorn, Throat Chop (Replaced with Facade and a Flame Orb in post game, Swords Dance
Garchomp: Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Stone Edge, Crunch
I basically wanted a solid mix of type coverage hitting on both Physical and Special sides. I have a few Debuff options with Intimidate on Staraptor and Snarl on Houndoom to keep me alive, and knowing Drapion isn't likely to get one shot out of nowhere thanks to no crits means I can set him up to stall in a lot of scenarios. Knock Off is also huge against the Elite Four and beyond since all their Pokemon have held items and Drapion gets stab.
Nice my post game team I made is charizard, metagross, rotom wash, gyarados, clefable, and breloom, pretty good Pokémon for the battle tower and I got all their ivs and evs maxed.
My team is finished for BDSP and I picked Empoleon so my team (in order of catching) is:

This was so late for me while I was searching for a good team for my empoleon. I used rapidash, luxray, Staraptor, altaria, and Rydon. It was really just my panic team made for coverage
Instead of Grass Knot for Empoleon, you should try Drill Peck. Flying type moves are good against grass and fire so that’s good coverage
Grass knot is too good against the Quaqsire and Wiscash in the E4 tho

If Staraptor really needs a normal move for type STAB, then go with Giga Impact, you can buy it now in the veilstone department store.

Other than having Honchkrow instead of Staraptor, the first four Pokémon are essentially the same as my team so far!
Grass knot is virtually useless if the opponent isn’t heavy, even if it’s weak to grass. When I had no grass coverage, I gave it to my mew, but I just ended up replacing it with a better move and getting a roserade.

I am looking forward to get both Pokemon brilliant diamond and Pokemon shining pearl games for Christmas🎄. I also would liked to play as Dawn and choose Piplup as my starter Pokemon so I can do better than the anime Dawn and what Piplup would never do. And that is catching more Pokemon and evolve Piplup into Prinplup and then to Empoleon.
However when I was watching UA-cam of any ideas what to expect on Pokemon brilliant diamond and Pokemon shining pearl, but when I was looking to find out about Wonder Trade that I've just found out today that at the moment is unavailable😱. I mean it isn't fair because I was looking forward to get both Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl games for Christmas and I was hoping to used Wonder Trade for any Pokemon I want. Now I'm going to have to wait in early January to hear more news at least that what I though it's going to happen😒.
It was my first time choosing Empoleon during the remakes so I went with this team. Really enjoyed using Empoleon.

My hall of fame!
I have two of these pokemon on my team. I have other pokemon on my team, and they're pretty helpful if you want to face the Elite Four! (I'm not trying to go against the creator's suggestions, I'm just giving some more.) Luxray and Pachirisu can handle Cynthia's water types, which is helpful if you wanna get through Milotic and Gastrodon the annoying creatures. Palkia, packed with a fire and ice type move, can handle Roserade, Togekiss, AND Garchomp at the same time. Crobat can also handle Togekiss if you have a Poison type move.
Again, I'm not trying to go against this video's suggestions. This is just my team in action if you want.

If I'm unable to get a Houndour for certain reasons. What Pokemon do you recommend swapping to take Houndoom place in the team while keeping the rest the same?
I used this team, except with Garchomp instead of Snorlax. It absolutely kicked ass :)
.....still don't like Empoleon that much though 😅 I only picked it because my partner picked Chimchar 😅

I did
Empoleon with Scald, Flash Cannon, Drill Peck, Ice Beam
Roserade- Petal Dance, Sludge Bomb, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball.
Drapion- Cross Poison, X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Night Slash.
Bastiodon- Metal Burst, Stealth Rock, Rock Slide, Flamethrower.
Luxray- Thunderbolt, Spark, Crunch, Volt Switch
Gyarados- Crunch, Ice Fang, Dragon Dance, Waterfall.
Really hope Mystic reconsiders putting Staraptor on the Torterra team if he's gonna have Snorlax on the team there's no point of Staraptor being there. They're better pokemon to fulfill the Fighting type/Infernape role

Houndoom's move set are the exact same one on my Renegade Platinum run.
My team was
Empoleon, drapion, houndoom, alakazam, hippowdon, and roserade
Now that post game has started I use gliscor over hippowdon (drapion and houndoom are my 2 all time favorites)
Fell in love with gliscor once it kept withstanding ice moves
I picked piplup and my team was froslass empoleon gallade houndoom roserade and salamemce (meant to be gliscor but got a bagon in trade) this team was very good
Lmao I almost had the exact same team but I have electiver instead of Snorlax. I have one but I love electiver and I couldn’t leave it off my team. Can you tell I watch your other videos 😂
