@@sr_b-cy4hw There's no national dex? Cause that would have at least some reasoning (I recall many games with nat dex had swarm mechanics with mons new to the region). If not, then oh god, I hope that they won't make it a DLC.
I remember reading up how to find feebas in the original Daimond and being flabergasted at the BS condition: They can only be found in 4 spaces in one specific lake covered in fog. And the spaces change daily.
I used to think Feebas could only be fished up with a Super Rod because Serebii said so, but I was not long ago pleasantly surprised to learn that you can fish it up with just an Old Rod, so you'll reel in either Magikarp or Feebas and not all other kinds of things. I also found a guide several years ago that showed how to best fish for Feebas, by starting from the top left corner of the lake and go one tile at a time, just fishing up 1 mon per tile (since Feebas is pretty common in the Feebas tiles), instead of dotting randomly around the lake. That way, I ended up finding a Feebas tile surprisingly quick, within the first 3 rows (I think, might have been 4) from the top. Then you can just fish and catch Feebas in that tile until you get one with a Sp. Atk-boosting nature (which loves dry food) or a neutral nature (which happily eats anything), or use the strat Ant used, if you have a Synchronize mon with a Sp. Atk-boosting nature. In the old games, I had no trouble making poffins, it was easy making good poffins. This game's version of making poffins is freaking bs, I tried doing the same as in the old games, but no matter what I did, the poffins always turned out foul, even when I did it perfectly, without burning or spilling a single time, and I didn't know what the stupid game wanted from me, so I gave up on poffins and moved on. When I learned you need to use DIFFERENT berries, I thought "wtf that's bs that was never a problem in the og games why should that be a problem now i hate you gamefr-- i mean ilca". Though having learned how the mechanic works now, I managed to finally make some good poffins and evolve my Feebas at last. I typically prefer the beauty evolution over Prism Scale since trading is usually difficult for me (I have to borrow my brother's 3DS or Switch for trading in gens 6, 7 and 8), and I still prefer beauty in BDSP as well. I really love how Legends Arceus allows you to just USE evolution items on Pokémon, including trade mons, I was so happy with that, and I hope gen 9 includes this mechanic as well. Oh, btw, I ended up catching my Feebas in a Love Ball, it was a female with the wrong nature, so now I have a bunch of level 1 Feebas in Love Balls. Including a dry-loving Milotic in a Love Ball.
A lot of youtubers ha ve been shocked about the "new" friendship mechanic, but i distinctly remember my espeon toughing it out 3 times in a row against my friend all the way back in pokemon X
Wasn’t this a thing start ping from x&y cuz of Pokémon amie, most of the poketubers who play walkthrough knew about this cuz they played the game slowly
When I was a kid I didn’t understand that Feebas needed a max beauty stat to evolve, I thought it just needed to win the Max Rank beauty contest. I don’t remember how but I got lucky finding the Feebas in Emerald, and somehow won the Beauty contest and I was so heated that Feebas didn’t evolve
Ah, gotta love the affection mechanic. If memory serves that sorta stuff like "toughed it out so you wouldn't feel sad" was added in X/Y, and basically if the Pokemon has enough of those pink hearts in the affection system for the game (Pokemon Amie in X/Y and other names I can't remember for later games that incorporated it) they get like an extra chance (not heightened but like a whole second check in the code or something, can't remember specifics) for checks to end status conditions (even ones that don't end naturally), checks for critical chance, dodge/miss chance, and as you saw, even tanking deadly attacks with 1 HP left. It was meant to emulate the anime series trope of the partner Pokemon getting a second wind or pulling off an impossible win because they valued their trainer so much they couldn't stand losing for them
@UCPhGRRK7BpnKo-Je-_RI1dg The mechanic itself is a great idea in theory. For casuals, it allows you to bond with your Pokemon and get some perks because of it. They did it great in XY/ORAS and SM/USUM because it was toggle-able However, they then started forcing it upon you. BDSP suffers from this because affection is automatic. Not something we want to do all the time. Some people like the challenge that comes with the regular game without boosts like affection. Same goes for the New EXP Share (Gen 6 and onwards). The idea was really good and would fix most people’s problems with grinding, but making it necessary in SWSH made it so much worse. Tl,dr: The ability to toggle things makes the game better.
While the friendship mechanic does make the game easier, I find it also makes the connection to the Pokemon feel more real. Also there are some really clutch saves.
I just wish that certain trainers (Like Gym Leaders, Elite 4 and Champion) had it work for them too. Like imagine thinking "I'm about to beat Cynthia! Garchomp is going down! It was close but--WHAT DO YOU MEAN HER GARCHOMP DID NOT WANT TO MAKE HER SAD?"
It simply shouldn't be forced on you. In previous games you had to spend time with the Pokémon in Pokémon Ami and feed them stuff and treat them like a pet to get the bonuses. That way you could completely ignore it if you didn't want all battles to basically become an A button mashing game. But now you survive attacks, dodge 100% accurate moves, deal a ton of crits and win matchups you really shouldn't. That's horrible game Design. Or an even better solution: Introduce hard mode like in Pokémon Black/White (2) and disable these bonuses for this mode in addition to changing the opponents team, moveset and level
"Well, that's underwhelming" was pretty close to my reaction when I first completed a pokedex and saw that certificate, its the kind of moment that makes you go, "wait, is that seriously all I get?"
What else are they going to give lol a new type of Pokémon? Seriously though, the one time I did 100% the dex in gen VI it felt cool getting the shiny charm. It’s only too bad I stopped caring about Pokémon coincidentally after completing the goal
Yea, and it's not even like in BOTW where you get litteral tree-poop because I think it kinda gives a message like: "It's more about the journey than the ending of the journey" because you can't really say that with a pokemon game since they are way more linear, shorter overall and mainly focus on the ending than BOTW.
@@jj-rath9110 What OP means is adding plot elements from Platinum into the Diamond and Pearl remakes (so the Distortion World would be in both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, with no Platinum remake) rather than remaking Platinum in addition to Diamond and Pearl.
The Snorlax Vs Grachomp Fight was even more exciting to watch live, literally no one in chat thought that Ant could win that fight after he lost Infernape and Empoleon. Then came Snorlax with its thick plot armour.
people complain about that mechanic, like it cheapens the game, but whatever, it creates these great clutch moments. if you want a challenge you really have to do PvP, come on. the in-game battling is mostly just for fun.

The honey tree, carnivine, and Cynthia luck in this run was absolutely insane - I guess it acts as compensation for the torture endured in the underground 😂
Gotta say, the patience I've developed from shiny hunting the last few years has made finishing 'dexes feel way less awesome than when I was little, but doing it all in a day does take a lot of game knowledge and prep. Nice.
Don't forget the huge amount of luck. It took me a week of doing nothing but honey trees on cooldown to get Heracross, but he gets it in the first half of the video, no stress.
They actually dropped the Gotta Catch 'em all motto around gen 3 or 4 when they realized that it wasn't feasible for the average player anymore. But by then it was so ingrained in culture that I don't think anyone really noticed.
I own complete copies of every game and just checked. The trade mark phrase appears on gen 3 game boxes. In gen 4 it is nowhere to be found, not even the manual. However it is possible to get every pokemon up until generation 8 where they decided to stop players from owning all the pokemon.

I caught a carnivine with only 3 badges on brilliant diamond. I never knew there was a "daily chance" for it. I just happened to stumble upon it in the safari zone.
I am always a fan of spending time and improving friendship with my pokemon. Other kids in my highschool mocked me at first but it saved my ass in a battle or two back then, and they eventually realised it's good to have, even as a backup plan. It's good to see that it was useful here.
Interesting piece of trivia, the suction cup ability actually DOESN’T work in the original Diamond and Pearl games due to some bug. I believe they kept this in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl too.
@@dekusi1857 portions of the game might actually be copy-pasted, considering the snowpoint gym's innards can be skipped to fight the gym leader immediately
@@gate3929 I think it's more that they didn't redesign the gym graphically to account for diagonal movement than literally copying and pasting the code. Especially since the internal code has undergone _significant_ changes in the years since Gen IV.
Well, this may be because BDSP is a remake, and since he has played the original a lot, he decided to try and get every Pokémon. Besides, who the hell would wanna do this with a new original Pokémon game with new Pokémon?
This stream made me appreciate the weird gimmick spawns that the Sinnoh games came up with. It can be annoying when every Pokémon isn’t just readily available especially if you wanna use a rare one on your team but I feel like it makes the memories stronger and keeps the region more memorable if you used the Heracross you lucked into from a honey tree or something.
I wanted to use a Drifloon, ended up deleting my save file after changing the clock to 10pm on a Thursday, playing through to the Windworks again in the 2 hours before the clock rolled over.
If Munchlax didn't exist in the underground, there is a 0% chance he would ever have beaten this challenge. (Assuming it's the same as in diamond and pearl) Depending on your trainer ID (which is random), Munchlax can spawn in 8 random honey trees across the entire region, at 1% each.

Affection isn't a new mechanic. It was introduced in gen 6. What's sort of new is that after two generations Game Freak saw that it was silly to have two separate "friendship" systems with separate mechanics so in gen 8 they merged the two.
Unfortunately it means the game is just genuinely and unavoidably easier because of it Enemy trainers dont get free crits, focus sashes and status heals, its why they had to resort to loading up the hard endgame fights with held items and great movesets to compensate

That Milotic was absolutely impossible. I had a Gyarados I DD’d three times on spiritomb (was gonna just do it six times but I got spc def drops) and knocked them, Roserade and Gastrodon out, and then milotic tanked gyarados and knocked out four of my Pokémon before I could finally take it out. That flame orb marvel scale recover combo was no joke at all.
@@serpent2776 I was low on health and was gonna get knocked out if I didn’t heal by the time milotic came out, so I decided to heal and then the flame orb activated. His move set was Waterfall, Ice Fang, EQ, and DD, Adamant nature max attack, so I used eq, I knew it wouldn’t do a whole lot, considering marvel scale, but it did under half and from the sp def drops when setting up on spiritomb, I was fighting a losing battle with it. I had to stall out the recover pp and all her full restores before finally barely taking it out. I think that's because becoming the champion should be the main concern when you are playing pokémon, but he is like "I'll take a break from doing what actually matters, guess I'll become the champion meanwhile"
I've only ever completed the Sun and Moon Pokédex and that took me like a month because I only had one copy of the game so I had to wait for gts trades for Pokémon I needed, and Wonder trades for Pokémon I was unlikely to get on the gts with the Pokémon I had (legendaries and stuff). So mad props for doing it in a day, that is insane, you literally work so hard on these videos that I have nothing but respect for you. Smallant is so cool, what a lad
I remember being a master of the gts SuMo economy, because people would trade any worldy possession for a sneazel holding a razor claw LOL. The only way to obtain a razor claw in that game was from the Jangmo-o line holding it in the wild, so I'd take a pokemon with compound eyes and thief (and maybe a pokemon with frisk) out to fight them and let the Jangmo-o call for backup until I'd gotten some claws.

I remember reading up how to find feebas in the original Daimond and being flabergasted at the BS condition: They can only be found in 4 spaces in one specific lake covered in fog.
And the spaces change daily.
It is so hard and I want it so bad to challenge the elite four
@@edwinner100 I got Feebas, but I don't have NSO, so I can't trade.
And then they have the audacity to make it either a trade evolution or dry poffin evolution
@@blackfoxstudios4101 gotta be honest tho its really easy to make the poffins

It was meant to emulate the anime series trope of the partner Pokemon getting a second wind or pulling off an impossible win because they valued their trainer so much they couldn't stand losing for them
Mongus
@UCPhGRRK7BpnKo-Je-_RI1dg The mechanic itself is a great idea in theory. For casuals, it allows you to bond with your Pokemon and get some perks because of it. They did it great in XY/ORAS and SM/USUM because it was toggle-able
However, they then started forcing it upon you.

Also there are some really clutch saves.

just made the game insanely easy, my pokemon didnt die 3 times in a row and it constantly hit criticals

I think the idea for the first gen was that you'd be able to use the game boy printer to print out the certificate.
Yea, and it's not even like in BOTW where you get litteral tree-poop because I think it kinda gives a message like: "It's more about the journey than the ending of the journey" because you can't really say that with a pokemon game since they are way more linear, shorter overall and mainly focus on the ending than BOTW.

Luckily one of my two Pokémon left was Torterra with Giga Drain, EQ, Crunch, and leach seed, with a big root, so he took out lucario easily and was able to tank her Garchomp.
@@serpent2776 looking back on it, I woulda just EQ’d Milotic instead of healing, before the flame orb activated, but I definitely underestimated just how bulky it was gonna be, I was still in the mindset of tryna sweep her entire team with just my Gyarados. No matter what I was doing at that point, I didn’t have a single move on anybody that was even doing half of its health, so I had to stall it out, and I play by a rule of only use the same items they use, so I already used my healing items on Gyarados.
@@Mrdonjuliothewicked I had a blissey that her milotic barely did damage to so I just stalled all her pp out while healing blissey w whatever moves she has and eventually brought in my gyarados who knows ice beam and dd, maxed it out then whiped rest of the team, it was the most dreadful 15 minutes of stalling in my life but the only way I was winning since my highest level was a lvl 59 gengar lmfao
Snorlax: belly drum and last resort. For me it 1 shot everything but the spiritomb (yes, even milotic and garchomp)
I love how Buneary starts off hating absolutely everyone
"I decides to take a break from the underground to become the champion"
Idk why but i found that hilarious 😂
I think that's because becoming the champion should be the main concern when you are playing pokémon, but he is like "I'll take a break from doing what actually matters, guess I'll become the champion meanwhile"
As someone who watched the stream: This was such a legendary stream. Good job ant and keep it up :>

As someone who hates battling but loves trading/collecting, seeing UA-camrs complete the pokedex is a vindicating experience
Thats the definition of a pokemon player when a new pokemon comes out
I never realised that carnivine had such specific spawn conditions. I got it as my second encounter in the safari zone

me too. i’ve played diamond like 5 times now and every single time i was ever like “i want a carnivine” i will have one within 5 minutes
I got it on my FIRST SAFARI TRIP
I've only ever completed the Sun and Moon Pokédex and that took me like a month because I only had one copy of the game so I had to wait for gts trades for Pokémon I needed, and Wonder trades for Pokémon I was unlikely to get on the gts with the Pokémon I had (legendaries and stuff). So mad props for doing it in a day, that is insane, you literally work so hard on these videos that I have nothing but respect for you. Smallant is so cool, what a lad
I know that pain dude 😭
Lol I did that too.
@@MidnightBlackSky I did pretty much the same in gen VI lol, those sneasel are an amazing commodity, they got me everything except mythical pokemons!
