Killer video! Thanks for the shout out! I'm impressed with the CNC skills.. let's put to rest the CNC controversy. It IS woodworking and it does take TALENT!
Amen to that! Thanks :)
Dude!!! LOVE your work!!! I'm a veteran that was medically retired from the army due to injuries I sustained in Iraq. I recently got into woodworking and I really love it, it's therapeutic for me. I just got the x carve with zero knowledge on cnc machines. I will be learning a lot from your videos. Thank you for posting them and sharing your knowledge.
Wow, thank you. For your service to our country, for watching our channel, and for your kind words. You'll love the xcarve, I'm sure. I'm so glad you've found some useful info in the videos.
The more I look at it, the more I like it. So smooth and so textured at the same time.
Great work on the video and the project. It was clear and easy to follow. The end result is striking.
Mike Reese thanks for watching!
A quick and efficient way to get rid of tabs is to use a table mounted router and pattern bit.
That’s mighty nice man👍
Thanks a lot!
Do It I'll get there one day. Lol
Very nice
Thanks!
love the design , but your method of machining away all the unwanted surface area prior to the sculpting I do not understand how you did it- if you could make a quick info video of that technique - it would be much appreciated. Karl W
Did you sand the texture at all or did you use a finishing wheel of some sort to get the fuzzies off? I am looking for a way to easily remove most of the fuzz from the sign I made using your instructions here.
Great question. I just kind of rubbed them off with a combination of narrow scraping tool for the larger fuzzies (like the tip of a paint can opener), and used some fine grit sand paper for the rest. I don't go too crazy with that stuff. I like calling little remnants of things like that "character" and hope the customer agrees :)
What software was this?
the 1/2 straight bit you used, is your collet 1/2" or does the bit step down to a 1/4 shank?
1/2" collet
Did you have to sand the bare wood after the water based finish raised the grain?
I knocked it down a little before the second coat, but not much. The look was supposed to be like a rough gouge, so I left it kind of rough.
What kind of spindle do you have on the Shopbot? I have a PRT Alpha with the very loud Porter Cable router they originally equipped them with, need to go to a spindle at some point...
So, I bought this second hand. I know very little about the spindle except that if you search for an inexpensive one on Amazon, it's pretty much the first that comes up. Its good though. Relatively quiet, water cooled, easy RPM control. On the negative side, it isn't integrated with SB3, so all controls are manual. But I've never really minded.
Nice work, what software are you using for the textured tool paths?
Thanks. I use Vectric Aspire.
@@DoItProjects thanks, have seen that and it looks nice and simple to use, but is expensive and not worth the cost for a tiny but cool project i have. Could i pay you to generate the code for my cad if i send it to you? this is the project, would that work on my CNC machine? forums.maslowcnc.com/t/texture-surface-options/11095
how long was the toolpath timewise for the texture?
Jason Fuhrman About 2.5 hours. Mentioned in the video at 3:31.
