As gamers we should be very concerned that this type of game with all it’s scripted garbage, simplistic puzzles, constant frame dropping, boring boss fights, lack of atmosphere, lack of horror, poor voice acting, rubbish enemies, werewolves that look more like animal from the muppets, rinse and repeat zones, average graphics and very short campaign can sell for £50 and have the entire gaming press swooning over it’s magnificence. Sadly most gamers are not one bit concerned, in fact they lap this up like a dog drinking water which is why for the foreseeable future we will be shovelled more tripe like this and charged through the nose for it, sad times.

Completely disagree with you on this one, I think this game is awesome. Graphics are amazing with Ray tracing and hdr on my 3090. Horror wise it's scary and atmospheric with that classic RE cheesy dialogue. As for frame drops you need to look at your hardware as I don't think this is a widespread problem. Mac, your opinion is just that, your opinion. Don't pretend that you speak for the gaming community with your complaints because you honestly don't.
Editing this just for clarity. I'm a big fan of this channel, it's hilarious and I actually agree with a lot of the rants especially about woke or sjw stuff. I guess as a fan of the channel I feel like Mac is assuming everyone who subscribes agrees with him and this isn't the case. You don't have to agree with Mac to enjoy his work. I respect his opinion but I don't like being told that I'm part of the 'problem' with modern gaming for liking Resident Evil. I find that disrespectful as a fan of this channel.
@@grahamt19781 amazing game.... quality over quantity, performance on next gen consoles is superb and it’s aesthetic and storytelling is gripping and immersive!
I think this game will divide games some like me think it was pretty good like you I enjoyed the the way the game looked(maxed out with Ray tracing) had no frame drops luckily and reminded me of resi 4 which it was inspired by. Only thing is I do wish it was a bit longer and the story was a bit more coherent went off the rails at times and I was like wtf happened
The irony that she said "no place left to run" yet you can simply run into the room with the trader lmfao
Welcome t8 the resident Evil franchise
That's all resis
IGN gave it an 8. Probably knocked off 2 points because they couldn't solve that insanely tough window puzzle
I don't think they got there. They probably got stuck in the piano puzzle.
Nah, they probably wanted it as long as TLOU2
They also gave Alien:Isolation a 6. They utterly lack the ability to sort the wheat from the chaff, so should NOT be reviewers.
Oscar Giner even the piano puzzle is pathetic
@CaliDorko ...and yet you think Village is great? The problem isn't that you have poor taste mate, it's that you have NO taste. Based on that call alone, I'd hate to hear your music collection: as it's guaranteed to be riddled with mediocrity. You utterly lack the ability to sort the wheat from the chaff.
The window puzzle cracked me up.
At least WABs are still truthful

3:17 Isn't this the same guy from RE 7? Nothing should scare him anymore.
Yeah it’s same guy. The voice actor and writing is trash.
Main Character Franchise Syndrome. There's probably people playing this who've never played RE before, just because The Tall Lady became a meme, so Ethan has to act scared and wimpy as the audience would (or should)
I mean several years have passed since re7, I know he's been military trained but has he been fighting BOWs since then? Plus, re7 was much smaller in scale and had way less shit going on
He's been living a peaceful life with Mia for 3 years since RE7. Then one day Chris busts in, kills Mia, and kidnaps Ethan and his baby. Before he can even come to terms with that going on, he wakes up in a car wreck and makes his way to the village. He barely catches a glimpse of the monsters before he's pulled down there by one and sees the pile of dead bodies.
Yeah man what a pussy
@@XemnasKH funny how you skip over all his military training between the games.
Apparently the game director at Capcom said they wanted to make the game less scary because many casual gamers found RE 7 too frightening and off putting to play. From what you're saying Mack it sounds like Capcom have made the game too safe and full of dumbed down casual horror for the casuals.
Capcom should just make a difficulty option that says I am a casual gamer/pussy.
Removing what was good in your game is beyond stupid, just add settings option to make it less scary is the correct approach.
@@jeffvella9765 imagine buying a horror game and then not playing it because it did its job too well. lol...
@@bullshitdepartment ikr like they should have just ignore that feedback.
well it happened to me when I played doom 3 for the first time, I needed a stress break every 45 minutes. The sound in that game was scary as fuck and the fact that you had to hold the torch instead of the gun really kept me stressed.
That's relative I guess, I didn't find RE 7 scary, just boring with scripted nonsense. Could not get myself to keep playing it too far. Sadly I bought it in deep sale and still felt ripped off.
It's also a bit strange to have a modern, plastic, UK-style wheelie bin designed to be picked up by bin lorries in the middle of a mansion in the mountains of Transylvania.
Look out the window part killed me
60 seconds from a 12 hour game, oh no. A whole one hour sequence that is up there with some of the best horror moments in modern video games? He didn’t bother mentioning that.
@@robreich6881 Fucking this. That whole section was scarier than even RE7 and thats one of the scariest games of all time IMO
Same lol
@@robreich6881 Twelve hour game? I walked through it at barely nine hours, one hour sequence that's good? No part of the game was specifically better than the rest, well, no part was better than the rest but the thirty minute puppet area was pretty garbage compared to the rest of the game. The game does not live up to the hype.
@@sebastionstewart4567 The time clock on the game doesn't include cutscenes or reloads. The actual time to complete for most people including the cutscenes and reloads for deaths is gonna be 12-15 hours on hardcore. I can't speak to first playthroughs on Standard.

At 9:30... that happens in RE2R and 3, Tyrants don't follow you into the safe room...
Exactly. Thats the fucking purpose of a save room...
There is other threats to navigate to get to the safe rooms in those game though especially RE2 remake.
This is literally "old good new bad".
I've played loads of RE and I thought this game was good.
Capcom allegedly toned down the horror in RE8 because RE7 was too scary for many ''gamers''.
I don’t want to live anymore.
That's what I read, too.
It's a shame (and quite obvious) that these alleged "gamers" are probably the 12 year olds who shouldn't be playing M-rated games in the first place, but WTF does Capcom (or any gaming company) care when it comes to increasing sales, right?
I saw that too. Sad and pathetic.
I think that's just a another bs from them
It's just like how CDPR claimed that they shortened the campaign of Cyberpunk 2077 because people complained Witcher 3 was too long and some people didn't finish it.
It's like who the F*** cares what those people think! these games aren't meant for short ass attention span, can't handle real horror asses. they're the minority!
When the fan base are more interested and hyped for remakes of games Capcom made 16 years ago than the games they make now. F’in lol.
You'd be surprised how many fans trash the remakes because their nothing like the first remake lmao
Who says the fanbase is more interested in that?
Fanbases are dumb, all of them. In a parallel universe where Capcom listened to survival horror nerds and made 30 RE games with tank controls that takes place in mansions and police stations, the fanbase is complaining they don't innovate and keep releasing the same game over and over again.
Survival horror franchises died or became action oriented for a reason. There's a limit to how many times you can put an average Joe in a foggy town or a mansion that looks the same as the previous 3 games but the moment you tweak the formula just a bit the nerds start throwing tantrums.
Resi 2 remake is sensational and scared the absolute shit out of me haha
@@Ocean5ix "takes place in mansions and police stations" thats exactly what Re7/re8 is but with retardedd vampire/lycan monsters, pathetic puzzles and a very boring main character. So maybe they should have listened to their original nerds instead of the zoomer nerds?
Your laughing while explaining the “outside the window” combination thing is the most infectious thing since.... nah, too soon.
Good one Man 😂

Resident Evil has gone down the pan over the years. The RE2: Remake was astounding and showed what they are capable of producing, sadly what has followed has been increasingly disappointing.
I thought the game was astounding
Game was amazing
Village: not scary, no cool melee attacks...horrible story/boss fights....butchered Chris...mercenary mode doesn't hold a candle to RE5
At this point their only good games are remaking the old ones.
RE4 remake is coming too.
The puzzles section had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair! It made my whole day cheers
Decades of grooming the consumer base into thinking this tripe is exceptional gaming.
It’s sad really. Gaming has peaked. There’s a reason why post 2014 it went down hard. Microtransactions and suits took over the industry. It will never be the same again.
"Had bacon & egg sarnie for breakfast" makes everyday an auto 10/10. Mack is compromised.
8:37 "what's wrong with gamers today?!"

I had to quit out of the demo when there weren't proper DS4 prompts on Steam. There's a mod for the full game because of course there is. If a game releases on ps4/ps5, and clearly pc gamers use that controller, why not just throw in what's already programmed? Seeing YXBA is aggravating.

@@Grandmastergav86 People without* discernment aren't sold on that kind of nonsense.
FTFY.
That looking out of the window for the combination is absolutely ridiculous 😂 Dumb. The games producer Tsuyoshi Kanda in an interview said that the devs dialled back on the scares as some people who played Resident Evil VII found them too scary. They wanted to create a sequel ‘that anybody can feel comfortable jumping in and playing’…..’so that players aren’t in constant fear’. Ahh bless.£50 my arse.
JackFrags thought it was genius. Lmao.
@@satnav1980 Obviously he needs to have a word with himself.
The point of the easy window "puzzle" was for the jumpscare.
Its funny because I read that interview too and couldn't help but remember Fatal Frame received complaints about it being "too scary" and instead of dialing back the scares they double-down in fatal frame 2. This is was for max profit not for the well intention of reaching a wider audience, and even if that is the intention its still deliberately motivated for maximizing profit.
So that combi thing and it not being scary to some makes it not worth the price?
Worst thing is, there is no tension.
There are no stakes, if you as a player never know if the character is seriously hurt, or if he will heal anyway in 10 seconds because apparently it doesn't matter if he looses limbs or parts of his body get ripped into shreds.
You can't release a horror game like this. There is no horror. No tension. Nothing at stake. And saddest of all, it means there is no atmosphere.
Plus, the character is completely out of touch with the setting, his writing and VO doesn't fit his actions. Additionally they tried to include like 10 different themes, but they don't finish a single one of them. This is a patchwork gone wrong, sadly.
What were they thinking.
Just got out the castle after 3.5 hours, shocked at the lack of atmosphere and there's so many cut scenes but what is shocking is its actually easy and there's not much skill involved
maybe on normal, but most games these days require no skill on normal mode. normal has become the new easy, because nobody wants to admit they need easy mode so developers drastically nerfed normal to keep them from complaining.
this is why those of us who enjoy a challenge never play any modern games on easy, we usually start on hard and if there's a very hard we'll do that on the 2nd playthrough.
re village is pretty challenging on hard, and village of shadows is just insanely difficult.
Resident Evil: Bell Edition
I gotta say...people do seem to make Horror Genre into a standard fps shoot-go next area-boss-repeat-cutscenes
Which is why I kinda sceptical on Horror games...people call them horror for just the looks or jumpscares isn't really a horror game..it looked more like Tom&Jerry Hide&Seek kind of thing with lots of puzzles & maze of hidings🙄
What's truly shocking is the 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam.
The problem, as you have pointed out before is, the damn bar is just set so low now. It's amazing what gamers eat up and love. I am waiting for the day when a company sells a game trailer for $60 and gamers call it game of the year. They were smart to advertise old big boobs. Watching other people play games can indeed be quite boring, yeah.
I enjoyed WesSideLive's stream. But I mean, it's Wes, he can make just about anything enjoyable to watch.
Ok so the performance problem isn't just me. I play on the same settings you do on my RTX 2060 to get the frames to be acceptable, and even then many cutscenes lag behind on audio noticeably with a slo-mo feel to the framerate.
I thought I couldn't max it out due to my 6GB VRAM limitation, but from what I am seeing, you have to run it at the same settings I do on your OP GPU to allow the game to be playable. This is something else.
Did they allow a higher bin of features to slip through the graphics settings that the console port wasn't designed to efficiently handle?
If your character can easily recover from danger, it becomes nothing more than a health point system. The player needs more meaningful consequence than that in order to be scared. Supply and demand, or rarity, can be used to allow for recovery to an extent without ruining the experiences of risks and danger...But, it is better in a horror game to have mortal danger, because the possibility of loss is part of what is so scary.
That red plank thing is ridiculous. The player isn't supposed to be shown where the danger is! They are supposed to use their own intelligence in a game like this. Choreographing danger to the player ruins the atmosphere, the immersion, and eliminates almost all risk.
That fish monsters should be chasing the player along the entire course of that plank level area, smashing the large platforms, etc.
Waited for this exact review. Thanks
I watched Michael does life play through this, he struggled on the puzzles while on casual... 😂
Pretty entertaining 6hour stream tho i love the guy but he has shit for brains
@@HarryB291 He is brilliant especially his heel personas but he seems to be going through a bit of burn out and he resorts to ranting, so I leave it a week and stop watching then return to see him back on form again.
Micheal does life has been falling off. He was getting really good for a while too but now he just rants or complains about his fan base
this ain't silent hill. difficulty does not affect puzzles
The puzzles are the same but to be fair re never had hard puzzles
did you download the game ready driver ?
Agree with all these points. The problem with puzzles nowadays is that if people don’t get them first time they just give up and google the answer online. So it’s almost a waste of time to make them complicated. Sad but true.
So true.
My problem with the RE puzzles was never that they were complicated, but that in the end, most of them were nothing else than fetch quests and that most of them do not make _any_ sense even within this universe. 1.284 steps and 392 items in order to open a door in a _police station_ that is supposed to be passed by dozens of people every day? With the items having arcane symbols on them and the puzzles making references to things that happen(ed) in places and to people with zero association with this or _any_ police station? Hmhm...
@Furzkampfbomber Well, it wouldn't make interesting gameplay if it was just, walk and shoot.
Also, the previous games explained the reasoning for the puzzles' existence. In RE1, the mansion was made to be a deliberate death trap to guard and hide the lab that was making the tryant. In RE2, the police station was originally an art museum that was renovated by Chief Iron's, who was an Umbrella lackey that deliberately created the puzzles in the police station to undermine the police and ensure he kept ammo and medical resources for himself if an outbreak occurred.
OMG the puzzles parr! I'm dying!
It may not be worth a buy but your always worth a view.
I had a good laugh when Mack said, "I dunno, maybe its her ex-husband..." around 9:15
Resident Evil, by name only!
LOL i lost it at the "look at the window"
At first they didn't have the note in the game but then they concluded that having the solution outside the window was too much thinking outside the box/room. So they added that note.
@@leto1178 Dunno, AFAIK games have a couple of methods to show the solution for a pass or key (the usual search for a note or search in the environment...having too look at the window is nothing outside of the box if you played more than three games of this kind), being in a small room doesnt help either. Imagine those people playing a classic point and click adventure then...true horror. RE puzzles never were too hard, i get it (specially if you compare them with..dunno Silent Hill, that's outside of the box)...but this one is borderline insulting.
@@JUANMAS7ER The joke was that the solution is always inside the room/box but that one time you had to "think outside the box" (to look outside the window). I wasn't defending the easy puzzles, it was just a very dry joke.
@@leto1178 Oh, im really dumb then, sorry :P
@@leto1178Mack cut out a jumpscare that happens moments after looking out the window, which is why the solution is so obvious. It's setting up for a scare, but Mack acknowledging he got spooked would go against the narrative of the review, so he cut it out.
Would love to know your thoughts on Alien Isolation. For me, a great example of modern, first person, atmospheric horror.
He has a review on it!
He loved it. One of my favourite games. In fact I’m going to replay it cheers.
Yeah he likes it
Ah, must have missed that one! Thanks guys.
I played it once and I am still reluctant to play it, now that's a scary game one that makes you question if you really want to play it again lol.
To be honest in my opinion this shouldn’t be called horror it’s not frightening at all, it should be called a FPS shooter and leave it at that
No, people (rightfully) shat on RE6, because it mainly tried to be "Resident of Duty" for the most part, as well as they way over the top "Michael Bay" styled "storytelling" and explosions - that is what RE6 made such a bad game - not the case at all with VIIIage.
I just purchased this for series x for $20 and thoroughly enjoyed it. It starts off slow walking around looking for crap but by the time you exit Dimitrescu's Castle it's starts to pick up. It actually scared me a few times too with my 5.1 setup. I definitely recommend it. The graphics and HDR in sole of the areas is pretty impressive too.
Yeah, I'm waiting to buy this game on a deep sale for about $30. I'm sure at full price, and on release that this game was trash, but for $30, it's probably a good game. I find that games are experienced differently depending on how much I paid for the game. The more I've spent on a game, the higher my expectations, and the deeper I fall into disappointment.
And the new Winters' Expansion DLC that adds "Shadows of Rose" to the game, is one of the most atmospheric Story expansions i've seen in a long while, splendid 3rd Person view included, but sadly it looks like Mack's not gonna (re)review that, ever. 🤷🏻♂️
Mack was spot on, this is woeful.
@@Grandmastergav86 How can he be "spot on" about something he hasn't even played? 🤔
I solely speak about the "Shadows of Rose" DLC here, (and Mack hasn't tested/reviewed that, he only reviewed the main game) - busted! 😂
We went from an old school zombie survival horror to transformers and a dollar store Magneto. This entire situation is so incredibly sad.
I guess the zombie dogs, giant spiders, and giant bats and tyrants just don't exist in the earlier games, guess we just forgot Nemesis turns into a giant tentacle monster
@@drefozz Most "oldschool" complainers barely played the old games. They're just replicating what others say. RE has always been as ridiculous and messy as a MK story.
I doubt anyone in their right mind would say the original trilogy and it's remakes are more scary and more survival horror than RE7. But hey.. people do crazy things in the name of nostalgia and being an "OG".
@@Ocean5ix OG Re games were simple zombie stories, the story went downhill with Code Veronica and it's stupid Matrix Villian Wesker. After that the series started making James bond villains instead of having the zombie monster as the final boss.
Yeah, I miss nemesis. The original one, not the stupid scripted remake version. He's the best villian, he doesn't talk about Global Saturation, he just wants STARS.
@@Vishnu_Karthik You can like whatever you want. That said saying RE is about zombies but stating that you like Nemesis in the same sentence makes no sense.
Resident Evil is a name that means something inside is evil, which is pretty funny because it's pretty much Evil Within. The japanese name is Biohazard as you know. In other words RE isn't about zombies, it's about biological weapons. And it hasn't gone downhill since Veronica, it went downhill halfway through 1 when you see mutated spiders, giants snakes and a hulking mutant. None of that classifies as a "human that died and came back to life as a mindless deteriorated corpse", which is the definition of zombie in pop culture.
@@Vishnu_Karthik and I don't like 5 and 6 either. That said all the other games are fine with Revelations 1, 2 and 7 being the best of the non OG ones.
Could you do a review on bacon and egg sarni...and rickety Manor?
Vampire lady was clearly social distancing, saving lives
You mean like the zombies with save rooms in literally every other RE game?
Nothing beats a "Worth a Buy" notification. Love your honesty Mack. Keep it up
Bet if he was praising the games the comments would all be saying what a great game it is.
True
@@mail123619 that would make sence... seeing as most people watching his channel has a similar taste in games
I wouldn't....
Probably because it would be good.
Start saving me hundreds of dollars and maybe I’ll start listening to you too.
Based Mack, always going against the grain to tell the truth.
Space Dandy Man! 👏🎉
Yes, because reviews are objective truths 4head. I think the game is pretty good considering it's got lots of replay value and a mercs mode. The performance definitly needs some work though with the bugs and stutter. RE7 was even shorter and everyone praised tf out of it (not Mack though tbf).
@@BILLYSLAPZZZ No need to be salty just because I don't like your wanky horror game mate. I didn't like RE7 either, none of them have felt fun to me since 4.
@@errantbard937 I played through res evil 4 on Nintendo Wii about 10 times. It was just so fun, especially with the point and shoot aspect. I’d never played a game, quite so much. I bought res evil 4 on wii around 2007 for £8 and it’s the best £8 I’ve ever spent. I was tempted so many times to buy it on PS4 but in my heart, I know I rinsed the game, far too much and I probably wouldn’t enjoy as much as wii version. I still remember getting resident evil on release back in the 90’s. I still shudder just thinking about that nasty HUGE spider in hallway. Am I the only adult gamer that just don’t love gaming like I did, as a kid? I almost wish that I did, then I think, ah fuck it. Saying that, I’m a console pheasant, always have been, always will be but the day I see every console game, running at 4k60fps will be a special day. They promised 60fps on PS4 and we all know how that turned out. Now they say Ps5 8k 120fps hmmmmmmm. Speaking on Ps5, it’s got to be the worst launch, ever. It’s been out 6 months, most can’t find a console and even worse, there isn’t even 1 great game to play on it.
@@grahamkelly8662 I feel you bro, I love all the Resi games up to 4. All I want now is a buddy cop survival horror game with Chris and Leon, keep Chris as the stoic straight man and Leon as the over the top action hero from RE4 and we'd have one hell of a fun game on our hands.
So they made a horror game without the horror, ok wow
Man, sometimes you complain just to complain.
Yeah, why have standards?
Agreed. I usually Like his videos but honestly this one was a little bit bitter feeling.
Like the part where he moans the picture is too colourful and obvious. If it was the other way around he would just moan that it didn't stand out enough and that "This one puzzle was shit because it just didn't give you a chance to find where the answer was".
Honestly this game has been a ton of fun so far for me but mack is entitled to his opinion and I love him for his sometimes harsh views that speak truth. But this time it just didn't resonate with me.
I enjoyed it and that's all that matters to me tbh. Games are there to be fun Mack. Don't get too bogged down in the bullshit like movie critics.
@@nemesis908 The game is good. I’ve played through it twice. It’s just not his kind of game, which is fine. But he trashed it like it’s objectively bad and it isn’t.
Standards are one thing. Expectations that can’t be met in a genre/series he’s clearly no fan of is another.
@@Goosedanger Are you still salty about the witcher 3 and dark souls reviews??? This man has saved me tons of money, so what if he was wrong about one or two games, out of the hundreds he reviews. All his critisism about this game is valid. You're getting scammed right infront of your eyes, you could get so much better for 50 pounds. The most atmospheric part of the game is with the baby monster, until you hear it despawn. Its a heavily scripted, poorly written game no better than its predecessors. Alien isolation is twice the length of this game, more emmersive, cheaper and came out all the way back in 2014. Truely disappointing to see how standards really have dropped within the masses. Contrarian hipsters? Really? To quote mack, "what the hell are you on?"
Wow this entire reply section has the audacity including this triggered simp fanatic for this game, to get at worth a buy for giving raw criticism which he made himself clear if you don't like it then leave, yet you call him a complainer but don't look at your own selves...literally crying like babies over him doing what his channel is based off like yikes.
