Between you liking this game and TotalBiscuit not liking it , the two of you have given me enough Pros and Cons for the game that I'm going the "Wait for the steam sale" rout. But I will likely end up getting it. Great review Mack, I'm right along with you for how I felt about the game. It took a bit to really get into it and before I knew it I had 30 hours playing time. The immersion could have been incredible, I've turned off all the UI stuff on the screen and it really is a good looking game, especially at night. But like you said being attacked every 5 feet takes away a bit of the immersion.
Sadly Ubisoft seems to be happy with being safe and making good games and not trying to be innovators, which I think they could if they wanted to. Hopefully WiLD when it comes out will be what this game could have fully been.
All the Far Cry games have been cut and paste since Far Cry 2.

It's the map from Far Cry 4 with almost entirely the gameplay from the spirit realm there. I like how you upgrade a base and stuff instead of just weapons, but for me, this is no more than 15 bucks.

Fair enough Mack. I haven't played Farcry since 3 so not sure whether to get this or 4. I'm just concerned about the combat in this game (if it's repetitive, lacking in variety, etc) and is there different effective ways to take down bases? Also whether or not ill be able to get back into the gathering/grinding aspect. I'm intrested in it, but just don't know if it's good value for me.. and won't know till I'm playing it -_-

it is pretty good game i would suggest who have not read the subtitles and skiped it to restart the game the story makes sense and its pretty cool.

You're lucky Mack. On my pc the game runs at 20 frames per second on ultra, and sometimes it goes to 30 fps. It never goes below 10 fps though. I have a gtx 560 ti 2gb. yes, I know I need an upgrade, but the game is still playable and looks gorgeous.

enjoying what I've played so far no performance issues on gtx970 i5 system getting rid of the guns has made it a lot more interesting.

The game ran fine for me out of the gate. 270x/6300/8GB.
In fact, I can play it nearly on max and get a playable framerate. Probably around 30-40fps, depending on what's going on.
One of those games that makes me ache for the days when a demo version was just industry standard.

So if anyone cares to learn the far cry primal language then my other comment will spoil the entire story but it's a more rare dialect so that vernacular maybe different than the ones that ya maybe already familiar with. I love this game. My only real complaint is how short it is. I beat it my first time in a couple days. Ive got 2 campaigns started now on survival mode which certainly adds to the fun and makes you take your time. I wish they had included short faced bears, hyenadon, giant sloth, giant beaver, terror birds, gigantopithecus or even bigfoot.

+My Gaming Corner I have not done anything over and over in this game, I have 10 hours into the game and literally have not done anything more than once. It's a fun game with loads of original stuff to do that is NOT in any of the other far cry games. I thumbed it up because I am enjoying it and because it's a fun game worth the £30 I paid for it. Just because you hate it does not mean I must.

in the end though, i realised (long ago) that when i watch his videos, i'll just treat it as entertainment (especially when he goes on a rant and ring his bell) and not something that i will base on whether i'll buy a game or not.

I agree with most of what you say. BUT: Assasins Creed is just as shitty in my opinion. A good story cant make up for a lack of innovation (Black Flag being the exception).
+Chinga3000 I never play a big game for less than about 10 hours, I have over 20 hours in TW3 and 19 hours in MGS V and TLOU was about 8 hours. I liked Primal after 4 hours, so stop making up bullshit, you are just a fucking troll and are walking a very narrow line here. I'll admit, I'm surprised by a thumbs up on this. One thing you usually do that is strangely missing in this review: Price. How much is it? Several other reviewers that I don't think have an agenda have said the game is short...very short. Now I have to start up friggin Steam and see for myself. Is it worth 20 USD? 30 USD? More? Less? Ugh. I just looked at what they're charging for this. $60???? Where's the DING, Mack???
+Degas I paid £30 you should all know by now to check GMG, steam is way too expensive for AAA games. Also the game looks massive, am like 20% through at 9 hours played but I guess if you speed run it you will do it a lot quicker. I actually stopped playing to do the wab as I felt I was rushing it too much, I want to play it slowly just as I did with FC3.

It's not innovative but the setting is fairly unique to this type of game. I wish there were a few more "low-tech" games in the FPS genre, so many are focused on BFG style gun play.

You're the best reviewer on UA-cam because you're hysterical but very informative i've never been truly entertained by reviews until I found your account.
I knew this game was fucking hopeless as soon as I found out there were no guns and it was primarily melee combat only.
Farcry, and tbh an overwhelming amount of first person games, has an absolutely TERRIBLE combat system. You just fucking swing a club or stick or bone like a baseball bat. It's so damn simplistic. Spamming the same basic swing because that's all they have is shit game design.

+Nasmr If you are looking for a good first person melee combat game, you should try out chivalry: medieval warfare. i quite enjoyed it back then at release, easy to learn and hard to master. Or i just misunderstood your post and it is just a normal rant, not sure.
Elethio rodriguez it's a good question. Personally first person is a terrible choice for a melee combat game. Even chivalry (someone reccomended it) is very slow paced swing fest a lot of times.
Personally, even though mack hates it, first person is the best. As mentioned by dark souls but it gets ruined by the silly OTT fantasy weapons. I'm still searching for a truly skilled sword/staff combat system tbh.
I just hate these extremely telegraphed and over arched swings 99% of melee combat systems do.
This game was okay but definitely not as good as FC 3,4 or 5 imo. I got about 40 hours entertainment out of it and got it for AU $20 which I think is good value but I wouldn't pay full price.
I lost interest and never finished it and unlike 3,4 and 5 I don't feel the desire to finish it.

I would never ever give that kind of money for a game, certainly not when it is actually copy/paste content that could have been sold as DLC. (Press "Read more")
There has been put alot of effort in this game - they have had experts on stoneage language in on this, the voice acting and motion capture are really great - i know that.
+TheSkogemann It's £30 and I originally had a 2minute part of the video explaining that it's not worth £40 but you can get it from GMG for £30 (which I did) but I knew if I said that I would be accused of selling out and only thumbing it up for profit, so I edited it out and bitterly regret that as I gave in to the trolls. I have since made another video discussing this review and I do talk about that very issue, it goes live soon, just uploading now. This won't happen again, I will always mention the price and if you can get it cheaper on GMG I will review it at that price, fuck the trolls, I will just ban them.

+Random Person Game is fun, game can be hard, game is not dumbed down at all, has great Ai, excellent game play that I have never seen in a Far Cry game ever, amazing map which is NOT the FC4 map and I am totally having a blast. +DylNade that's BS. You only need to go to how long to beat to see it has less content. in order of average story length, story & extras and completionist Farcry 3 is 16 hours, 25 hours and 37. Farcry 4 is 16 hours, 29 and 43 and primal is 15 hours, 22 and 26. Primal has no co-op or multiplayer as well I believe. Fair enough if you like the game but please don't lie about content to people
+Kevin Wilson Am actually 15% into the game and played 10 hours so unless people are just rushing through the main story this has a lot more than 26 hours to it, mind you am now playing on hard with everything disabled and it's fucking awesome, slow but awesome.
Worth A Buy it's like any Farcry game, once you open an area and start going to each icon within that area, colectibles etc it goes very slow. It's very possible to be at 15% after 10 hours by doing side-quests and collectibles and revealing the map. Once you advance the story it jumps a lot more, Farcry3/4 were like that any way. I'd say story missions alone are 60% side quests 20% collectibles and revealing map 20%.
I play games like that any way. I like to do everything within an area before side-quests and advancing the story. TW3 I had played 50 hours and was at 20%....completed it 83% (I didn't get all the ? in skelliga) at 100 hours.....43% jump in the same in-game time?
Fucking Poopisoft. Between them, Activision and EA... Buying a good game is more of an issue of avoiding the shit that these three companies spew, and finding the diamond in the rough... I guess I'll give this a try when it goes on sale. I love the subject matter (primitive tribal stuff). So... It may work for me.

No surprise, really. Mack loves Farcry games. He got copious amounts of shit for his WAB of Farcry 4, too. I'll never understand people who support Ubisoft - they're the most anti-PC pack of pricks in the gaming industry; I'll never forget that one developer comment in Watchdogs ini. file which literally stated, "It's PC. Meh, 65 euro for the same game except with taming animals. Fuck that. Fuck that deep and hard in the ass. I may eventually pay about 15 for it in 2 or 3 years whenever ubi decides to sale it. Having said that I thought 4 was awesome, not story wise obviously but molotoving an elephant from a gyro never gets old haha.

Nah, this game is not on my radar. I LOVED far cry 3, thought far cry 4 was pretty good, and this is just mediocre. Gone down hill alright. I'll get this at a much much much cheaper price, if at all.

Not "Far Cried", "Assassin's Creeded". The tower mechanic is from assassin's creed 1, where it was kind of a nice little exploration thing to do in a climbing game, and then it somehow took over all of ubisoft even if it doesn't fit at all.
Also the beast mechanic and setting is basically ripped straight from Michel Ancels WILD, and it was probably shit out in like 5 minutes to try and beat him to the punch.

OK . Did you know that far cry Primal has the same map as far cry 4 ? Compare them , are very similar , clearly they used the far cry 4 map as base to do this , and i don't accept things like this for a AAA game , sry not worth a buy ( the story is not great to so why someone should spend 40$ for this game when can spend 3$ for Far cry 3 ? )

Ive had enough of bullshit reviews which either blindly smother a game in praise because other people say its great or blindly hate on a game because people say its bad. I personally see too much Farcry in this, a waste of opportunity on so many levels, so it is a pity and a pass for me. Well, at least until it's an easy 5€ grab in a sale that is.
PS: How is this arcade game made for survivalists or admirers of that genre? You have everything in abundance, no punishment whatsoever, mechanics for kids, and the HUD basically takes away every single independent thought.

this game reminds me a lot of assassin's creed 3. endless repetitive busywork to set up your lame-ass little village which means absolutely nothing in the long run. except it's farcry. i don't know, this game looks so boring. if you ask me they should have pulled some of the fluff and bullshit and just sold it as a standalone expansion like blood dragon.

It might have gotten the thumb up, but this just isn't FarCry to me.
I've heard that to make it a better experience, you should turn off mini-map, raise the difficulty and turn off subtitles and it plays completely different to any thing Far Cry has done before. Haven't tried it myself but sounds like it could be worthwhile.
as a game, it's hella fun. and hey, it doesn't have a season pass. good on Ubisoft for partial control of themselves.

great review...I've not played this but have played Far Cry 4 and felt the maps were poorly designed but most of all... like this one, I felt I was being attacked by animals every 30 seconds... it was ridiculous. Needless to say I got fed up with it after a few hours of play and got rid. This sounds like it's pretty much the same game but just re-skinned with a prehistoric cavemen theme.
They had an opportunity to make an interesting, gritty, different Far Cry game with the feel of being in a tribe with properly crafted weapons and more stealth. But instead they make this safe, boring, unimaginative Far Cry 4 skin.
