I love this game. My only real complaint is how short it is. I beat it my first time in a couple days. Ive got 2 campaigns started now on survival mode which certainly adds to the fun and makes you take your time. I wish they had included short faced bears, hyenadon, giant sloth, giant beaver, terror birds, gigantopithecus or even bigfoot.
Tbh, you're the best reviewer on UA-cam. You're not easy on games and you're not selling out to game companies. I rarely buy a game without watching your review with it. Every single review that you make and I get the game I agree with. Except for Hurtworld.
There are not many reviewers who aren't afraid to day whatever the fuck they want about a game and for that I thank you. Ive had enough of bullshit reviews which either blindly smother a game in praise because other people say its great or blindly hate on a game because people say its bad. You're the only youtuber I can rely on for a good review so keep it up. cheers!
Everybody is complaining, but I feel you Mac, it's a fun game to play! Yes it's a Far Cry game, so it obviously looks and feels like a far cry game. I'm curious if all those people who are complaining actually played the game?
You're the best reviewer on UA-cam because you're hysterical but very informative i've never been truly entertained by reviews until I found your account.
Guys was sent this link tonight from a viewer...thanks Helguard: www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/mar/04/microsoft-monopolise-pc-games-development-epic-games-gears-of-war Disgusting if true.
+Worth A Buy To be honest, I never liked epic games and I hope microsoft will continue to treat them like underdogs, epic games thinks that all pc gamers are pirates anyway. Dont get me wrong I dont like either what microsoft is doing to pc, but hearing the opinion of a wannabe victim like epic games makes me sick as well.
nah they have not long launched the store just look at steam when that first launched all the same complaints now everyone loves it they've already said they will open it up more.
I forgot me closed quotes again so *"" there's both! Pffttbb haha and btw that translates into spoiling the entire game story line even tho I've never even played I watched about 5mins on twitch before it lagged out forever. And this review is pretty much all I know about it. So if anyone cares to learn the far cry primal language then my other comment will spoil the entire story but it's a more rare dialect so that vernacular maybe different than the ones that ya maybe already familiar with. So lmao it's just a clever stupid joke and an oxymoron haha
It's not innovative but the setting is fairly unique to this type of game. I wish there were a few more "low-tech" games in the FPS genre, so many are focused on BFG style gun play.
Mack, please dont ever ever change. Whether or not we disagree with you, you tell it like it is from your perspective and its what I love most about your WAB vids. Keep up the good work mate! Also, will you live stream/Review "Layers of Fear"?
Between you liking this game and TotalBiscuit not liking it , the two of you have given me enough Pros and Cons for the game that I'm going the "Wait for the steam sale" rout. But I will likely end up getting it. Thanks for the well thought out review Mack it's guys like you, TB, and very few others who really help me find the Pros/Cons I look for when deciding how to spend my cash.
Ohh such innovation, such innovation. Ubisoft are truly ARTists, such openminded people with such high imagination working there. Another original and fresh far cry game.
Ive never played a far cry game, but I love fps survival games. Gathering stuff. etc etc I've watched a few videos on this game and I can't wait to give it a try. Enjoyed your video on this.
Afrah Ali hey kiddo I'm talking about the gameplay it's similar to the previous.... Doesn't matter what they put in the title if the gameplay is the same okay dummy??
I'll admit, I'm surprised by a thumbs up on this. One thing you usually do that is strangely missing in this review: Price. How much is it? Several other reviewers that I don't think have an agenda have said the game is short...very short. Now I have to start up friggin Steam and see for myself. Is it worth 20 USD? 30 USD? More? Less? Ugh. I just looked at what they're charging for this. $60???? Where's the DING, Mack???
+Degas I paid £30 you should all know by now to check GMG, steam is way too expensive for AAA games. Also the game looks massive, am like 20% through at 9 hours played but I guess if you speed run it you will do it a lot quicker. I actually stopped playing to do the wab as I felt I was rushing it too much, I want to play it slowly just as I did with FC3.
Mack, what I love about you is that you're brutally honest. And a lot of the time, I share your opinion on games, so I trust your word. You've saved me a pretty penny with your videos, thanks for doing what you do. Keep up the good work :)
Great review and I'm glad you are having a good time. Since you enjoyed Farcry 3, of course, you would enjoy this one. Not sure if I should be hyped for hours of gameplay footage on this one, though. I personally see too much Farcry in this, a waste of opportunity on so many levels, so it is a pity and a pass for me. Well, at least until it's an easy 5€ grab in a sale that is. PS: How is this arcade game made for survivalists or admirers of that genre? You have everything in abundance, no punishment whatsoever, mechanics for kids, and the HUD basically takes away every single independent thought.
Great review Mack, I'm right along with you for how I felt about the game. It took a bit to really get into it and before I knew it I had 30 hours playing time. The immersion could have been incredible, I've turned off all the UI stuff on the screen and it really is a good looking game, especially at night. But like you said being attacked every 5 feet takes away a bit of the immersion. Sadly Ubisoft seems to be happy with being safe and making good games and not trying to be innovators, which I think they could if they wanted to. Hopefully WiLD when it comes out will be what this game could have fully been.
My God! i never seen any of your videos before! this is the very first time and i got to tell you! I LOVE the way you explain things you are incredible funny guy! and also direct to the point! I had a blast watching. I am a power gamer and I watch thousands of lets play and reviews and only very few guys I enjoy watching! you are one of my 2 best now! please keep it up! I LOL all the time wile watching! you are very good at this I hope your make some money out of this you deserved every penny !!!
+Anal Devastator lack of content? you not only can do more in this game than any other far crys before it but it looks better. i understand one not liking a game but to say primal lacks innovation or content compared to others is just a lie. unless your talking about multiplayer that no one played.
+DylNade that's BS. You only need to go to how long to beat to see it has less content. in order of average story length, story & extras and completionist Farcry 3 is 16 hours, 25 hours and 37. Farcry 4 is 16 hours, 29 and 43 and primal is 15 hours, 22 and 26. Primal has no co-op or multiplayer as well I believe. Fair enough if you like the game but please don't lie about content to people
+Kevin Wilson Am actually 15% into the game and played 10 hours so unless people are just rushing through the main story this has a lot more than 26 hours to it, mind you am now playing on hard with everything disabled and it's fucking awesome, slow but awesome.
Worth A Buy it's like any Farcry game, once you open an area and start going to each icon within that area, colectibles etc it goes very slow. It's very possible to be at 15% after 10 hours by doing side-quests and collectibles and revealing the map. Once you advance the story it jumps a lot more, Farcry3/4 were like that any way. I'd say story missions alone are 60% side quests 20% collectibles and revealing map 20%. I play games like that any way. I like to do everything within an area before side-quests and advancing the story. TW3 I had played 50 hours and was at 20%....completed it 83% (I didn't get all the ? in skelliga) at 100 hours.....43% jump in the same in-game time?
TIP: You can turn off (there is an option) every single part of the HUD and make the game hardcore - increase immersion. The visuals and the sound are your only guide to survive and it can be hard but amazing.
I knew this game was fucking hopeless as soon as I found out there were no guns and it was primarily melee combat only. Farcry, and tbh an overwhelming amount of first person games, has an absolutely TERRIBLE combat system. You just fucking swing a club or stick or bone like a baseball bat. It's so damn simplistic. Spamming the same basic swing because that's all they have is shit game design.
+Nasmr If you are looking for a good first person melee combat game, you should try out chivalry: medieval warfare. i quite enjoyed it back then at release, easy to learn and hard to master. Or i just misunderstood your post and it is just a normal rant, not sure.
Elethio rodriguez it's a good question. Personally first person is a terrible choice for a melee combat game. Even chivalry (someone reccomended it) is very slow paced swing fest a lot of times. Personally, even though mack hates it, first person is the best. As mentioned by dark souls but it gets ruined by the silly OTT fantasy weapons. I'm still searching for a truly skilled sword/staff combat system tbh. I just hate these extremely telegraphed and over arched swings 99% of melee combat systems do.
It's the map from Far Cry 4 with almost entirely the gameplay from the spirit realm there. I like how you upgrade a base and stuff instead of just weapons, but for me, this is no more than 15 bucks.
This game was okay but definitely not as good as FC 3,4 or 5 imo. I got about 40 hours entertainment out of it and got it for AU $20 which I think is good value but I wouldn't pay full price. I lost interest and never finished it and unlike 3,4 and 5 I don't feel the desire to finish it. It's not a bad game though but it's not a classic either
and i am still waiting for another blood dragon, fuck the far cry series, give me my explosive sniper rifle, give me my quad barrel incendiary shotgun, give me my laser rifle, give me my over powered star, give me my bad ass 80's soundtrack and of course, give me my fuck you button!!!!
If you're in an area with a certain animal that's attacking you, you call that animal to you're side (if you've tamed it) and then that animal type won't attack you. They run away instead because your companion lets them know you're cool ;)
The game has grown on me. The sound is fabulous. I wish they would have maybe let you become the beast...that would have been innovative!. Great WAB Mack! And you can up the level as you play...top tip ;)
Hey Mack! Love your channel even though I definitely don't agree 100% of the time but that's to be understood from two seperate people and I respect you give your honest opinion no matter what. This is a review I do agree on however and it was spot on. I'm having great fun with this as well, and if I could give the suggestion of trying to raise the difficulty and losing some or all of the HUD? I've played on the hardest difficulty without any HUD or assistance since the beginning and I've got to tell you, 15 hours in I've never felt more immersed in a game. They could have done SO MUCH MORE to put this game over the top, but to get the most of this game and really get that "Caveman" feel I turned the reticle, HUD, notifications, everything off. I try not to use my hunter vision or whatever and don't use my owl at all but I guess that's personal preference. Just a suggestion of something to try. Keep churning out the great reviews man, you're one of the last hopes for all of gaming.
I've heard that to make it a better experience, you should turn off mini-map, raise the difficulty and turn off subtitles and it plays completely different to any thing Far Cry has done before. Haven't tried it myself but sounds like it could be worthwhile.
Lol I love you, you are the only person on UA-cam who gives honest reviews, keep doing what your doin cause you help me and everyone else who has a fucking brain pick out the best and worst games
Even on Expert difficulty, its not particularly hard to play but it's fun and if you make mistakes you have a decent chance of getting wrecked in a hurry, so I'd recommend everyone play that mode, its more fun when games bite back a bit. 5 hours in, i'd say its alright. It's nothing much new really, just Far Cry with animals and no guns. If you like the Far Cry formula, you'll probably like this.
great review...I've not played this but have played Far Cry 4 and felt the maps were poorly designed but most of all... like this one, I felt I was being attacked by animals every 30 seconds... it was ridiculous. Needless to say I got fed up with it after a few hours of play and got rid. This sounds like it's pretty much the same game but just re-skinned with a prehistoric cavemen theme.
I've been on the fence over buying this, but after watching your video I will eventually buy it,. at a decent sale price. Right now I have several games awaiting a play-through, but this is now on the list. I love and respect your honest videos; keep it up, Mack!! I always know I will get a good honest review with you.
I'm just so Ubisoft out at this stage, I have played this game for a few hours at mates on his PC but I just couldn't get into it. Like Mack said maybe a few hours in you will get some enjoyment but for me the first few hours really determines whether or not I can stomach to keep playing a game till completion. Ashame about no Co Op however, as bleak as it was in FC4 I really did enjoy blowing up Kyrat with my mate.
They had an opportunity to make an interesting, gritty, different Far Cry game with the feel of being in a tribe with properly crafted weapons and more stealth. But instead they make this safe, boring, unimaginative Far Cry 4 skin.
+TheTechnoLocker Couldn't agree more, watched my bro playing this and it looked wank, not a fan of the animals (just tell the tiger to go kill everything) and the gameplay in general looks boring and samey. Also for £40 i'd expect a lot more than what we've got.
Mac, I think your review is spot on, thank you. I've been enjoying this and could not understand all the early hate. It's my first Far Cry game (even though I'm a veteran games too) so i don't have any of the other "its a Far cry game" baggage. So well done for IMO hitting the spot. Even the overpopulation comment which is my main gripe too.
This game is great! It's all about the immersion. If you like all the other Far a Cry games, you will like this one. You might think the melee weapons are subpar but there's actually more than meets the eye. Different weapon types, multiple upgrades, plus you use the animals as strategic weapons. Instead of just throwing rocks to distract, you can swing them around in a sling and hit people in the head. It's funny. Lol. They still got the Eagles swooping down and stealing animals, which is always great to see. Idk. I see a lot of people complaining that's it's too much like the last Far Cry game, but is that really a bad thing? Far Cry is awesome and fun. Like someone else said below, most people complaining about this game haven't even played it #Fact
Mack, i love these videos! But i think you leave out a very important thing, the price! I think this is £50 or something like that. (€59) - is it really worth that ? I would never ever give that kind of money for a game, certainly not when it is actually copy/paste content that could have been sold as DLC. (Press "Read more") There has been put alot of effort in this game - they have had experts on stoneage language in on this, the voice acting and motion capture are really great - i know that.
+TheSkogemann It's £30 and I originally had a 2minute part of the video explaining that it's not worth £40 but you can get it from GMG for £30 (which I did) but I knew if I said that I would be accused of selling out and only thumbing it up for profit, so I edited it out and bitterly regret that as I gave in to the trolls. I have since made another video discussing this review and I do talk about that very issue, it goes live soon, just uploading now. This won't happen again, I will always mention the price and if you can get it cheaper on GMG I will review it at that price, fuck the trolls, I will just ban them.
+Random Person Game is fun, game can be hard, game is not dumbed down at all, has great Ai, excellent game play that I have never seen in a Far Cry game ever, amazing map which is NOT the FC4 map and I am totally having a blast. Sorry that you listen to all the idiots but you are missing out on a very good game here.
As usual an excellent review Mack. And I agree, it is... kind of an 'copy' game-play/ mechanics of all FC games after FC3 (Maybe before also, I don't remember), but it is still fun but it get very repetitive though. And that brings me to your point in your review were you bring up: why not do something new instead of all those capture points you need to overtake? Bring something new and fresh to the game Devs. Thank you for your time making the review Mack, If I am looking to buy a game, I always go to your channels and if it is a thumbs up I know it is something I will like and enjoy playing as well ;) Cheers, Erik
Thanks Mack, you're the only reviewer I trust to deliver me the truth and as a bonus you make me laugh while doing it. I've watched all of your videos, as soon as I can get the disposable income I'll be supporting you via the store or patreon, it's the least I can do as you've definitely saved me from spending cash on subpar games. I think it's the least I can do. Sidenote - Do you think you could be the catalyst we've been waiting for to lead the crusade against the money-grabbing bastard game devs? Vive la révolution!
weapon wise the game is not huge on different weapons but it's huge on crafting and skills and upgrading and the level of exploration is massive and amazing! I would give this game worth a buy! :)
Wish there was a Hard-mode like in Dying Light. Like no radar/minimap, no scan (yes, there is scan in DL) and so on... And thanks for an honest review, as always Mack :-)
Playing this with the minimap turned off and the on screen prompts turned off, in Survivor mode on the hardest difficulty makes it the hardest in the series since Far Cry 2. And it's great. The series used to be damned challenging. That's been missing in the series. I am thoroughly enjoying this game and I never thought I would. I only just started playing it a few days ago. It is Worth a buy!!! (Weapon tagging turned off as well.)
I so far have really enjoyed this game. My spears and my sabertooth, take out all the fools Story is meh, but the gameplay is great. I love that you never feel alone. Always a bit on edge.
I think the main complaint people have is simply that it doesn't innovate. The same can be said of Far Cry 4, and there were a lot of complaints about that when it came out, but by and large people seemed to enjoy it, although no one could deny that it was basically just the previous game, plonked in a new map. This time, its the same complaints, but they are more widespread, and more people are hesitating before buying. The formula that worked for the previous two games is starting to feel really stale and repetitive. Ubisoft will have to really do something amazing and fresh with the next Far Cry, or players will turn away. It can't simply be a different setting, with another "chosen one" protagonist...
+Tele Blues Man well, people are dumb, one way they say that the game is great and that they shouldn't change it, and then when they keep the next game similar they bitch about it
I love whenever Mack starts rambling while reading the words the developers at the beginning you can tell it's gonna be a great video.
One of those games that makes me ache for the days when a demo version was just industry standard.
Can't stop laughing at this shit.

this game on survival mode is so damn fun.
Totally with you on the level of danger at all times, it really wears me out to be on high alert every step
not only does it lack innovation, but it took away most of it because of the setting.
DylNade the setting of this game is no more than an excuse for the sheer lack of content compared to even far cry 2
+Anal Devastator lack of content? you not only can do more in this game than any other far crys before it but it looks better. i understand one not liking a game but to say primal lacks innovation or content compared to others is just a lie. unless your talking about multiplayer that no one played.

Farcry, and tbh an overwhelming amount of first person games, has an absolutely TERRIBLE combat system. You just fucking swing a club or stick or bone like a baseball bat. It's so damn simplistic. Spamming the same basic swing because that's all they have is shit game design.
+Nasmr I think I used my club two or three times, I am a bow and arrow ninja
+Worth A Buy The thing is, in 3, I played mostly with the bow too.
This channel is golden
It's the map from Far Cry 4 with almost entirely the gameplay from the spirit realm there. I like how you upgrade a base and stuff instead of just weapons, but for me, this is no more than 15 bucks.
Classy guy. Absolutely an hero.
Catbus Driver nice meme
This game was okay but definitely not as good as FC 3,4 or 5 imo. I got about 40 hours entertainment out of it and got it for AU $20 which I think is good value but I wouldn't pay full price.
I lost interest and never finished it and unlike 3,4 and 5 I don't feel the desire to finish it.
It's not a bad game though but it's not a classic either
They brought the patch out thinning the world, it's pretty immersive..
and i am still waiting for another blood dragon, fuck the far cry series, give me my explosive sniper rifle, give me my quad barrel incendiary shotgun, give me my laser rifle, give me my over powered star, give me my bad ass 80's soundtrack and of course, give me my fuck you button!!!!
Not a game I'm interested in myself but I always enjoy your reviews Mack :D
Thank you for the videos.
I remember how awesome the fire was in FC2.
Yea I knew you going to like it, you liked Rust... For me this game is crap and I don't even have to play it to know that...
I've heard that to make it a better experience, you should turn off mini-map, raise the difficulty and turn off subtitles and it plays completely different to any thing Far Cry has done before. Haven't tried it myself but sounds like it could be worthwhile.
I really trust your judgement on games. You do a great job at breaking down the good and bad. Thanks for being honest. Keep up the good work Mack!
Hopefully they have a Honey badger DLC companion..
Lol I love you, you are the only person on UA-cam who gives honest reviews, keep doing what your doin cause you help me and everyone else who has a fucking brain pick out the best and worst games
Poking Butt Simulator 2016
bear that in mind ( skins a bear in-game ) xD
Great review mack. I'll be getting this at Christmas when it's £15.
+Rick Rude doing this will not only get you a game cheaper, but also this is the only way to get a good quality game with patches and bugfixes.
love this game. i enjoyed the constant combat and when i didnt wanna fight...i would just fast travel so that never bugged me. great review
OMFG I can't stop laughin at the commentary.... this is amazing. You have gained a sub dear sir :)
as a game, it's hella fun. and hey, it doesn't have a season pass. good on Ubisoft for partial control of themselves.
Mack says ding ding ding while ringing the bell lmao he's been drinking.
Way to go Mack. New background music!
Love the 'Oonga Boonga, wenga jenga tunga' :'D
I'm just so Ubisoft out at this stage, I have played this game for a few hours at mates on his PC but I just couldn't get into it. Like Mack said maybe a few hours in you will get some enjoyment but for me the first few hours really determines whether or not I can stomach to keep playing a game till completion. Ashame about no Co Op however, as bleak as it was in FC4 I really did enjoy blowing up Kyrat with my mate.
I love your reviews and I knew this was review was gonna make me laugh as soon as I seen the thumbnail. Keep up the good reviews!
Great video Mack. Loved your impression of us. Keep it up dude.
It seems like an AAA version of the Forest
They had an opportunity to make an interesting, gritty, different Far Cry game with the feel of being in a tribe with properly crafted weapons and more stealth. But instead they make this safe, boring, unimaginative Far Cry 4 skin.
+TheTechnoLocker Couldn't agree more, watched my bro playing this and it looked wank, not a fan of the animals (just tell the tiger to go kill everything) and the gameplay in general looks boring and samey. Also for £40 i'd expect a lot more than what we've got.
This is perhaps the Biggest load of rubbish since the London bin man strike.
If you could make that using three animals at the same time posible by wednesday, that would be great...
Mack, i love these videos! But i think you leave out a very important thing, the price! I think this is £50 or something like that. (€59) - is it really worth that ?
I would never ever give that kind of money for a game, certainly not when it is actually copy/paste content that could have been sold as DLC. (Press "Read more")
There has been put alot of effort in this game - they have had experts on stoneage language in on this, the voice acting and motion capture are really great - i know that.
+Worth A Buy Mack, I'm better and cheaper than Old Meg ;)
+Random Person Game is fun, game can be hard, game is not dumbed down at all, has great Ai, excellent game play that I have never seen in a Far Cry game ever, amazing map which is NOT the FC4 map and I am totally having a blast. Sorry that you listen to all the idiots but you are missing out on a very good game here.
MACK, CAN YOU PLEEEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION ???
Where do you get your awesome background music ?
As usual an excellent review Mack. And I agree, it is... kind of an 'copy' game-play/ mechanics of all FC games after FC3 (Maybe before also, I don't remember), but it is still fun but it get very repetitive though. And that brings me to your point in your review were you bring up: why not do something new instead of all those capture points you need to overtake? Bring something new and fresh to the game Devs.
Thank you for your time making the review Mack, If I am looking to buy a game, I always go to your channels and if it is a thumbs up I know it is something I will like and enjoy playing as well ;)
Cheers, Erik
Thanks Mack. Wasn't expecting a thumbs up.
This is my first far cry game and it's amazing. It's hard enough on expert but its worth it.
weapon wise the game is not huge on different weapons but it's huge on crafting and skills and upgrading and the level of exploration is massive and amazing! I would give this game worth a buy! :)
you're like me with the witcher 3. Didn't start enjoying it until I was 7 hours into the game
Wish there was a Hard-mode like in Dying Light. Like no radar/minimap, no scan (yes, there is scan in DL) and so on...
And thanks for an honest review, as always Mack :-)
I can barely wait for the day when you'll review STALKER 2,if it ever comes. Now THAT's a game.
+Dario Liotine Metro took a crack at it. gave me reminiscence of Stalker.
+Dario Liotine God i love seeing fellow marked ones praise the best fps in the last decade. STALKER 2 please!!!!! =D
Love me some games, will give it a crack. Thanks.
this game is good so long as you play it on very hard and turn off all hud and indicators and mini map. then its actually cool and fun and refreshing
Worth a Buy? No.
Worth a Torrent? Yes.
I so far have really enjoyed this game. My spears and my sabertooth, take out all the fools
Story is meh, but the gameplay is great. I love that you never feel alone. Always a bit on edge.
i really enjoyed this game , couldn't get into previous far cry titles
They figured out how to solve the horrible ubisoft writing staff! Just fire them and make caveman characters that grunt!
+Long Qua Missionary Unga?
7:46 Hi there stranger.
Fuckin great review Mack! You and Karak @ ACG are the best. Subscribed.
+Tele Blues Man well, people are dumb, one way they say that the game is great and that they shouldn't change it, and then when they keep the next game similar they bitch about it
it's a rock!! and I can't see what's behind it!! I'm shit! I'm shit! 😂😂😂 lol!!
LOL!!! "It's Ubisoft, aaaarddd!" :D Laughed my pants off! :D
