When I saw the pounding this game was getting in other reviews I just knew Mack was going to have a field day with this one 🤣
last evening, watching itmejp do a sponsored stream of this game on twitch, his best comment was "who told me to play this on hard difficulty" because he died a couple times. lol

Mack never disappoints with his rants.
He hates that X-ray stuff in all the shooters. I like to think of it like you are psychic who can sense people like the Jedi not X-ray vision like Superman. Your eyes are not seeing them through walls and floors but you are special person who can sense danger.

Well, FEAR actually faked it by telling enemies where you are, but... I don't think it really matters, when it achieved the feeling of clever enemies and it was done properly.
Time Splitters 2 (2002) definitely had better AI

That's the only upside of this shitstorm of PC ports being fed in the Gamer trough under the guise of AAA release standards (and price). I get to laugh my ass off watching Mack lose his shit over how ridiculous it got.

There's nothing in a name anymore. The employees leave because of corporate culture but the names stay the same. I'd be surprised if there's more than a handful of people from the Dishonored and Prey days still working at Arkane Studios.
The founder.... Raphaël Colantonio leaved Arkane Studio in 2017, maybe this is why Arkane Austin is RIP now.
Only Arkane Lyon is not bad at the moment they made Deathloop last time.

There is an even easier way to deal with the vampires which I saw on another video. They cannot path around any largish object, like a table, large crate or a car. They will just stand looking a bit confused on the far side of it while you go make a cuppa or something.
Isn't that the lore? Garlic, Crosses,...large-ish objects like tables or large crates. 🤣.
Is that why most of the houses and buildings have all of their shit pushed to the sides of the room and are generally empty?
I dunno the best way I've found to deal with them is shutdown, uninstall, watch movie, brush teeth, go to bed.

For me, Deathloop was the signal that told me Arkane was going downhill. And here we are. Thanks for the review Mack, I know it had to be painful.
Never saw the appeal of that game either....Prey and Dishonored were peak Arkane.

deathloop is overhated, especially after the patches since launch. It's not as much an immersive sim as the other games because it's primarily a narrative driven action shooter and not a stealth game. The default options for difficulty scaling and excessive hud elements definitely make the game too easy, but these are also easily fixed in the options menu. I don't think the game is perfect (color tiered loot 🤢) and the ai was pretty shit at launch, but it's miles better than Redfall.

Currently going through Dishonored 1&2, the painterly artstyle and immersive gameplay is so good. Truly bizarre to see Arkane drop off like this. Go back and watch your reviews on those games and basically everything you praise is completely gone in both Deathloop and Redfall

Dishonored 1 was the best game they've made
People honestly tend to see studios TOO much as one single entity. A game company exists of dozens to hundreds of talented (or untalented) developers. The average AAA game developer tends to stay in one studio for 3-5 years MAX before moving on. This means the team that released Dishonored in 2012, and the (already different) team that released Dishonored 2 in 2016, are both VASTLY different than the studio in 2023. The talented people who were in the studio back in those years probably have nothing to do with this disaster.
What also really matters is one person running the show with a vision. That is what we had back in the day. Not the case with many of these companies. Even when the personal changes you still have that one person overseeing everything and with an uncompromising vision.

I have a proposition as to why these modern games from these large developers are coming out in such mish-mashed and chaotic states: forced diversity. Diversity is the opposite of unity. These games are not coming out as unified products. They are coming out like Frankenstein monsters that are stitched together from various random parts.
Anyone else care to weigh in on this?
i'd say the unity thing is debatable, but diversity hiring is definitely part of the problem. i don't know if "diversity quotas" are really a thing but these companies seem to hire people who are perceived as "diverse" (and don't get me started on how wrong that entire idea is in the first place; it's very possible for a group of same race/same sex people to be more diverse than a group of mixed race/sex people in terms of class/background/views/personality) rather than people who have the actual skills and experience to make a good product. i also believe nepotism is at play too, these wokelords get in positions of power then bring in their mates who align with their politics rather than hiring people on merit

I always feel I can't be surprised by the state of AAA gaming, but every time a new disaster comes about I'm somehow still stunned.

I made this mistake with Bioware and Blizzard back then.
Studios change alot in 5 years and you can bet that most of the good Devs in your favorite Studio are often long gone.
I liked the original 2006 Prey from Human Head Studios, before Bethesda bought the IP and cancelled Prey 2. It had some really innovative gameplay - portals before Portal, weird gravity walkways which made for interesting 3d space fights where up became down or sideways. A forgotten gem.
what's funny is I heard Redflag or Redfail to describe this game that it didn't dawn on me you could also say "Dreadful" and I started laughing cause it's so obvious
I played with my son last night. Some of our bugs were: The sniper rifle has 4 lenses appear and you could not see your target, we both started floating and were able to fly around the map, the vampires got stuck in the ground and our guns were invisible.

He then says "Yeah the game is locked to 30fps but its a smooth 30fps..."

I love the way that Devs these days release fully fleashed out games. It's a real strong suit of theirs.... Fucking hell, this looks woeful.
Redfall could've been a co-op combination of Dishonored and 30 Days of night. Like this...if it was free, it would be disappointing, but the price just makes it insulting - like many AAA releases these days.
Honestly the one thing I was looking forward to about this game was Mac's review, and it delivered! I'm glad the game came out so that I could get the laugh's that this review gave me. I dont bother buying games anymore, I just watch these reviews as they are literally more fun than the games!!!
I feel like I’m usually pretty good at finding the fun in games. Even if it’s bad I can usually squeeze a few hours of fun even just messing with the AI or something. Not this game. There is no fun to be had here

That's shocking. I thought the characters being cringy would be the worst part but it looks like Arkane are trying to speedrun great to terrible dev any%.
I am a massive fan of Arkane games. Loved all Dishonored games for their depth and very particular attention to detail. They actually innovated in Dishonored 2 and Prey! This same studio who made this piece of shit made PREY. It's unbelievable. I let Deathloop off my radar for a while due to the fact it was very much a different style of game, but I learned to love the invasions, the amount of clues and such, it played out very well when you see it as a different style of game that Arkane makes. But Redfall? It's almost unplayable.
Arkane dropped the ball, and they really need to pull their finger out of their arses if they want to sell a good game, because god forbid they release sequels to Dishonored or Prey in this state.
When gaming rants are more entertaining than actual games. I don't even play video games anymore.

These poor development studios... Another one bits the dust. They've seemingly lost all their incredible talent. Whoever is responsible for creating Dark Messiah, Dishonoured, & Prey... They have obviously moved on. What a f*cking shame because I loved so many of the games they made. Deathloop was a flop but for Arkane this was the nail in the coffin. (Drum sound effect)
Most developers from Arkane moved to aother studio that made Weird West ;-)

This is pretty insane. I haven’t seen a single good review of this game whatsoever. They had to know it was bad before they released it right?
I'm working a game, alone, in early access and I get so much hate for my game which isnt even done, but games like this, cyber punk and the new starwars comes out with an unlimited budget, not in early access and sells millions. This is why these large companies will continue to do this. And WTF, day one patches, really you couldn't take the time to finish your game.

I remember the days when a game needed to be on point before release cause there were no day one patches or even updates. Its like developers are like, f it we can just spend the next year or so fixing all the crap we didn't have time or care to fix all while charging us full price, when games now a days, nearly all should be in early access and half price since we are becoming game testers. Even in my early game making days I made some crappy games, but they were playable.
The good things:
- The town design
- The stake launcher as a weapon concept
The bad things:
- Optimization
- Gameplay
- No matchmaking
- Empty town
- Dumb AI at all levels
- No recoil
This game screams mid shit worth 20$

Ever since they and many other developers have stated their desire to be more diverse in 2019, game quality seems like it has gone down.

It's a petty reason but the way they bastardized Black Hole Sun in their unskippable UA-cam ads was a big turn off. So sick of these trailer "cover" songs where they have a Billie Eilish knock off lazily singing, basically whispering the words like she's falling asleep to Inception bwooommms to a simple piano tune that sounds nothing like the OG, not even the same chords. They just bank on people knowing the words and imbecilic consumers will register the words they're familiar with in their little brains and think "I remember the thing! Life was good then. Thing remind me of happy times."
