Dr. Berry has never seen me, he doesn’t even know I exist, but he has had a bigger impact on my health then any doctor I’ve met. He honours his Hippocratic oath every day.
This is what real "Health Care " looks like in contrast to the Big Pharma directed Standard Of Care system of Disease Management. God bless and protect you.
I lost my dad to Alzheimer’s at 69. I started carnivore a year ago and what a difference. My physical and mental health have improved so much. I’m a 55 year old male. I’ll continue to eat this way. Miss you dad.
Me, Pat Williamson frontal lobe dementia. Was a nurse, trauma, cardiac, taught education at the hospital, and taught at the college level nursing . Was crushed at the diagnoses! Also told I would not improve and the first 3 years were horrible then changed my diet mainly stopped sugar. Most people have no idea. I am very thankful of incredible improvement but also very aware of what I have lost . Hopefully there will be more improvement.
@patwilliamson4701 Hi Pat! I was diagnosed with MCI, "almost certainly Alzheimer's - early onset". Hit the library & the web (which did NOT go well - I was the guy with dementia) & eventually realized Neurology is full of bunk (took years). Became convinced that dementia - and many other neurological disorders - is simply cascading inflammation in the brain. What neurons are affected in you defines how it's diagnosed. Essentially it's a mitochondrial energy disease. I think that's true for most people, but there ARE other potential causes: environmental toxins, disease (esp. viruses), heavy metals, concussions - esp. repeat concussions... I've got a list of perhaps 15 things that it appears CAN cause inflammation in the brain, inflammation of neurons anywhere (so peripheral neuropathy, too). So Alzheimer's is probably best seen as a syndrome, not a disease. It appears there are a lot of things that can reliably cause what will be identified as AD. Question in any given case is: what likely caused it? For most people, the most likely cause would appear to be metabolic. And not just for AD: I think this is true for many other dementias, including simple Senility. We're simply not designed as a species to live on a high-carb diet. We're hugely adaptive: we can certainly do it, can live on widely different diets all around the globe, but there's fall-out & eventual disease for some people. Some are susceptible; some perhaps not. Healing it? Done that, both Peripheral Neuropathy (PN) & Dementia. Again, the theory (since confirmed) was that it was metabolic. Getting off carbs is the main thing: you've done that. Go Keto or Carnivore & stay off carbs. For life (perfectly healthy if you're wondering). You know as a nurse that very significant inflammation is dangerous: huge bruises, for instance, cause enough cellular destruction that breakdown by-products of cellular destruction can trigger destruction of nearby cells, causing a cascade. That can be fatal, certainly will cause significant tissue (esp. muscle) destruction. Now imagine cascading inflammation in the brain. What to do about that? There are two dietary supplements that are documented to cross the blood-brain barrier are neuro-protective (endorsed by the FDA no less): 1) Alpha lipoic acid. Crucial you get a pharma-grade R-version not the cheap L-version; it's a chiral molecule. The L version is cheap, shelf-stable and completely ineffectual. In my area AOR sells a a couple of versions of this; AOR appears to be a reputable supplier working to good standards. It isn't cheap: the r-version is tough to synthesize & make shelf-stable. Cheaper stuff is all over the market & is generally the L-version or a mix: you do not want that. ALA is not only neuro-protective but is it causes neurons to grow, pop out fresh synapses. Very cool. A chiral molecule, comes in two forms: the R version is more expensive, very susceptible to degradation (avoid temp swings, store carefully, watch expiry) it degrades to the S version which is cheap, shelf stable & near-ubiquitous on supplement shop shelves - & is entirely useless. Make sure your supplement manufacturer works to pharma standards, be picky. AOR is a good brand but I'm sure there are others, and supplement distribution tends to be regional (I can't find a lot of US brands in Toronto). 2) Curcumin is a systemic anti-inflammatory BETTER than level-2 NSAIDS (such as Celebrex) without their side effect profile (if you're a tiny minority, Celebrex can stop your heart). DOES cross the blood-brain barrier, reduces inflammation in the brain. Cool. Hard to adsorb, works best not as a dry powder capsule but instead delivered with lipids in a fat-filled capsule. In Canada/NE USA a supplement company called SISU makes a really good product. Add a little black pepper to your food: there's solid evidence pepperine (an extract of black pepper) increases adsorption in the intestine, but you only need microscopic amounts. Just add some pepper to your meal. Both supplements are entirely non-toxic in nearly any dose, and are self-limiting: too much, you get diarrhea, just dial it back. My neurologist took 8 years to come around, followed my progress with increasing interest (originally very skeptical, wrote me off). He's now convinced, has changed his practice: tells me he puts all his neurological patients on this protocol and after a year reported to me (today in fact) considerable though not universal success. And on the Web you can find increasing numbers of reports - especially UA-cam videos - documenting the success of this approach. Dementias including AD & senility are almost certainly reversible - highly treatable - in many (most?) cases. I have thoughts on this but this Comment is long enough. One primary reason: no pharma company will research or sell this approach. You can't patent any of this stuff. I did add one prescription drug which I think was helpful, but I won't say it's going to work for you or anyone else: that job belongs to your neurologist. We added Amantadine, a dopamine receptor-cell agonist. I think it was very helpful, but discontinued use after 8 years. Speaking of which: this is going to take time. Sorry about this, but you need to have realistic expectations. It took years to create this problem and nerve tissue - neurons - heal slowly. It'll take a few years. But they DO heal. I have found other things you can do to boost neuron recovery, but this post is becoming a book. Hit me up for more. I've had considerable experience dealing with the medical community in seeking treatment. Good stories there. 🤔🙄 If the cause of your dementia is something other than metabolic dysfunction, you may need something else as treatment. For instance, heavy metals can sometimes be chelated out, which case the neurological impact might be reversible depending on the metal involved. Parkinson's (PD) & therefore PD-related dementia is often definitely linked (not all cases) to environmental toxins including dry cleaning fluid (Tetrachloroethylene / perchloroethylene), agricultural pesticides & herbicides & electrical wiring-related toxins. My have a brother in Australia currently suffering PD: was an electrical engineer, spent his career in the Australian navy as a submariner. Submarines are toxic sealed tubes, so maybe that's how he contracted PD. That said I think whatever the cause, cascading neural inflammation is a constant theme, the outcome & a continuing problem regardless. Enabling better mitochondrial energy production is likely to be helpful in cases caused by causes other than metabolic disorder, just don't expect a cure. Might also help in cases related to long-term physical damage (repeat concussion in football/hockey players, boxers etc.) or viral infection, but again I'm not sure how much you can reverse serious physical damage. Still, won't likely hurt. The FDA HAS endorsed the use of both supplements "following any insult to the brain": concussion, virus infections ('flu, likely therefore COVID too), heavy metals poisoning, metabolic disorder, etc. And the Keto diet has been used since the 1950s to treat drug-resistant epilepsy in children, where it works well & is the standard of care. One last caution: remember the list of diseases associated with metabolic disorder (or simply detrimental outcome from a modern crap carb-rich diet) includes heart disease & cancer. After getting my brain back & substantially recovering from dementia & PN, I contracted breast cancer (fun wow). Keep an eye out for other problems is all I'm saying. In my case we caught it early - stage 2 I'm told - but treatment (chemo, surgery, radiation & now tamoxifen) causes (oh boy) cognitive problems including dementia and PN. Same symptoms but different etiology, mechanism. I'm working at it but it isn't assured I can reverse both this time. We'll see. Just keep an eye out for other issues, K? If you find something suspect jump on it, get tested ASAP. Sooner caught, better treated. Pat, take heart: you can likely treat this effectively. I got my brain back; hope you achieve reversal too. I wish you well with it. * Update 2024-08-21: I discovered the Comment here was corrupted, missing paragraphs. Don't know why. I've rectified it, I hope. Sub-Comments (level 2) appear to be flakey in UA-cam.
As a former activities director, often working with dementia patients, I did things like create a "cafe" where music from their era was played, I had an apron and asked what they wanted from our menu. Within this context I was able to encourage conversation - play board games, dance -- before I started this the TV room was the only place they gathered...And I saw activity as both helpful for the individual and the staff (aides) that had to help them
I lost my sister and brother to Alzheimer’s this year. He was 75 and she was 74. So tragic as they knew that this was their death sentence. My other sister died suddenly at 53 of a sudden cardiac event 15 years ago. I am the only one left. Thank God I found the PHD 3 years and am on a journey to better health. I am still very scared.
G-d bless you. I wish you long and healthy life. My mother had Alzheimer's. I visited her as much as possible and hired personal care workers to look after her and keep her company. It was so difficult. My heart goes out to you.
I have early onset Huntingtons disease I one meal a day and some 72 hour fasts Last week I went to John’s Hopkins for my twice a year checkup and I improved on my cognitive testing You don’t improve with Huntingtons ! Thanks for getting the word out
@@MyUA-cam2022 hello. Yes there have been improvements, Crohn's is in remission, Parkinson's slight improvement have stopped taking one drug and seems ok. 100 plus days on carnivore and still have bad days of low energy, double vision, and balance issues. After 70 years of bad eating I don't expect improved health really in less than 6 months. Halfway there!
I lost my mother an ER nurse to Parkinsons last year. She followed the low fat, high plant based diet for years, because that was what all the people around her "knew" was best. She even took Statins early becasue of high cholesterol and avoided eggs and butter. When she started getting acid reflux (probably due to H Pylori) she turned to Prilosec as soon as she could get an Rx. All of those things ruined her health, even though she worked in the ER until age 70, she spent much of that feeling aweful! The problem was that she had her whole family following her diet avoiding animal fats and eating more veggies than meat. I wish that I had known that she was so wrong 20 years ago, her last 20 years would have been so much better and so would mine. Clawing my way back to health with the PHD in the last 4 months. Thank you so much!!!
I am sorry abour your Mom. It sad to hear stories like this. My sister's Father in law was 62, a vegan, golfed daily, very low stress job as a small business owner. Didn't smoke, very low fat, no breads or pasta, no surgar and no soda, etc. Went from golfing at 59 to diapers in a nursing home at 61 and dead at 62. His sister also died of Alztheimers at 64. Not sure what her diet habits were but she had it for several years before she passed as well.
My 73 yo mom was diagnosed with "Parkinson's" like symptoms about 18 mo ago and I have watched her decline/deteriorate at a disturbing rate since that Dr said those words to her. 4mo ago I had to move her in with me. I'm about to start her on this keto diet since we've got nothing to lose right now as I'm also seeing cognitive decline, gut problems, arthritis, depression& anxiety, low kidney function..etc. These videos have given me hope that we're going to get her back on track..
…not giving medical advice…but i would highly recommend researching high dose vitamin B1 therapy as a helpful protocol for healing neurological conditions in conjunction with keto/carnivore. (See Elliot’s EONutrition as a starting point to educate yourself on how deficient most of us are and how it has helped many with neurological conditions. Dr. Peter Osborn and LowCarbDownUnder also have numerous links to many related research studies.)
I’m proud to say the ongoing improvements of my slow-moving ALS ( MND ) clients is over 50% showing improvements in 90 days or less!! I’m a Health Coach. My group is REVERSING ALS / MND. My group is making ALS / Medical History! ( You are SPOT-ON!! )
My dad just turned to 77 and is what I call having moderate symptoms of Alzheimer’s and has been diagnosed. His sister is one year older than him and hasn’t known anyone for years and has been in a nursing home for years with Alzheimer’s or dementia. My dad‘s brother shot and killed himself 13 years ago at the age of 68 because he recognize he had beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, and had been taking care of my grandparents with Alzheimer’s for years and didn’t want his kids to have to take care of him. That is all on my dad side of the family. My grandmother on my mom side is almost 99 And is in perfect physical health and in her late 80’s began to have mild memory issues and now usually can’t even tell you her name. Her daughter, my mom died 3 years ago of an abdominal aortic aneurysm caused by lifestyle but was already beginning to have some memory issues. So having this very strongly on both sides of my family has really put some fear in me. I started with keto four years ago in an effort to prevent it, even if there is a small chance, it will prevent it.I added intermittent fasting to that about a year and a half ago. I can definitely tell that when I am in ketosis, my short-term memory improves quite significantly. I pray this will keep my kids from having to take care of me for years. We have longevity in our family and if I am not mentally well I don’t want to live that long.
@lisahammon2422 - when someone has an epidemic in your family like this, I look for both common eating/lifestyle habits, DNA testing, and even generational curses. Be blessed with all the wisdom, clarity and help you need to avoid this fate. Jesus is Healer and Savior, His Holy Spirit a Helper and Guide.
A question I always ask, when you see the diseases common on both sides of the family, what common dietary lifestyle did they share? Thank you Dr Berry for phd!
Also.. Meds and other products have FLUORIDE in them. Fluoride hardens the pineal gland in your brain. Causes many mental issues!!!! Plus this fluoride in water and medicines etc is sourced from CHINA the most contamination in the world. But should NEVER be in any product. Its claim for cavity prevention.. Is a LIE! MANY OF THESE HEALTH ISSUES ARE INTENTIONALLY CAUSED to our innocent from foreign and domestic enemies!!
A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I’m only 46 years old. I was told to avoid red meat. Every day I felt tired, lethargic, and had a cognitive fog. At our Easter get together this year my uncle spoke of this diet and how it was changing his life. Shortly after I took the dive and began carnivore. I’m very pleased as I have a lot more energy, the brain fog is gone, joint swelling is gone and my skin has cleared up. I’ve also noticed that my fine motor improving
My 46 year old sister was just diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and I have shared multiple studies, videos, books, and other sources about why it is important to at least try a ketovre/Carnivore diet for 90 days, but they refuse and she continues to get worse. It blows my mind that people won't do whatever possible to save quality years of their life. I'll keep trying until she does it or until she passes.
I had the same situation with my dad. They refused and now, 5 years later there's almost nothing left of him.😢 Mom died in December and dad lives in an assisted living facility 50 km away where they give them crap all day long. It's extremely frustrating and sad.🥺
Alzheimers had not run in the family until my Mother was diagnosed with it in her late 80's. I looked after her for 10 years; it is a horrid disease. She had battled weight issues on and off throughout her life and had a weakness for sugary foods eg cookies and cakes etc. She also fell into the lo fat, vegetable oil lie and ate 6x a day. So sad! Since I became Keto/Ketovore 2 years ago, I have learned so much and just wish I could have helped her. Thank you for this info!
My wife has dementia. It is advancing as time goes on. It is the most horrible thing I have ever dealt with in my life which includes war, death of loved ones, stage 4 cancer etc. When someone that you have loved dearly for 60 years disappears before your eyes and there is nothing you can do or help or fix or mitigate it is crushing to your soul.
I am sorry to hear, Gary. Now you can get her started on a Keto regimen and have her take supplements that Dr. Bredesen uses on his protocol for his patients.
My dad has had dementia 6 years. He didn't remember me so I would remind him I am his favorite child and we would laugh a lot. I was in control of his diet and started removing carbs (slowly) and adding a more keto diet. He is not a victim to the disease anymore and his memory has improved significantly. I my dad is back! Food is poison, or food is medicine!

good to hear a GP (as we call 'em here in Australia) talk so frankly about the frustration of dealing with Neurologists in terms of improving outcomes in patient health, as a patient this has been my experience too. My heart goes out to people getting advice a bit on the late side, but every day the information is getting better thanks to the hard work of Matthew and others studying the 'why' of metabolic and mitochondrial health. Such a departure from specialisation which increasingly isolates systems and parts of the body from one another until you end up with someone who is basically clinically useless. Who takes their heart, liver or brain to a medical appointment and leaves the rest of their self, their genes, and their life history at home?
My grandmother died in 2021 with alzheimers, Parkinson's, diabetes. For years, I tried to get her caregivers to stop feeding her processed junk. I even tried to get them to let her come live with me so I could take care of her. She was willing, happy even! But they acted like I was crazy and didn't let her go. I could have given her more and better years. How many more and how much better? I don't know, but I've seen such drastic changes in so many lives, including my own, that I know I could have helped. I'm a little bit bitter about it.
I'm so sorry for your loss! 😢 How did your grandmother's caregivers end up with authority to refuse you? Do you have tips to help others who might end up in your situation?
Thanks Dr. Berry you gave me the reason for my leg cramps.... I Was diagnosed for PAD after your test you suggested on your video! My wife age 71 has Parkinson's with Psychosis, osteoporosis , spinosis, arthritis etc.. I have been telling her to go on Paleo then Keto. She finally agreed after seeing this video! I have been on Keto about 10 years; started under Dr. Westman. Lost 69 lbs. In 6 months. So thank you!! We hope to move to TN where we hope you will be our Doc..

More engaged with daily life and type 2 diabetes is now stable, brought A1C dawn and no more insulin shots. Very good results ongoing.
I saw my neurologist after a long time and I had lost 40 pounds and stopped several medications and told him I had accomplished this with a carnivore diet. He whispered that he thought that was the correct way to eat and that several other patients were doing the same.

The care in nursing homes is atrocious from this mitochondrial perspective: very high carb, 3x a day plus carby snacks, minimal physical activity, virtually no time in the sun, hours before TV. This method of care has to be accelerating the damage. Prime intervention time seems to be in younger people to prevent the onset. God bless your efforts to take this revolutionary model mainstream. ❤
My husband was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He’s 52. He hasn’t started carbidopa/Levodopa yet. We’re trying to switch over to a carnivore diet along with high dose B1 therapy. We’re still in the beginning stages of both of these changes. 🙏🙏
@@auroramatera7555He’s recently just started the high dose B1, he’s up to 200mg of the TTFD form, but also takes a multi B complex which has 100mg of the HCL form and magnesium. So far no improvements, BUT you have to SLOWLY work your way up to a dose that will hopefully help the symptoms improve. Look up Elliot Overton videos about this. He goes into great detail. This was originally done by a Dr. Constantini in Italy who was treating patients with multiple issues, but with Parkinson’s he would advise the HCL form because it’s cheap and widely available to most everyone. He also meant this therapy to go along WITH Parkinson’s meds and said that it halted progression, improved symptoms and helped counteract the dyskinesia that the meds cause. Good luck on your journey. I’m praying for everyone suffering with this.
My former boss, Chris Davis, passed away at 73 earlier this year from Parkinson's. He was a leader in the Australian water industry, and a key spokesman. He naturally ended up as the spokesman for Parkinson's NSW. Was always fit and looked after himself. If he had been exposed to the research/trial of Dr Matthew Phillips and Kiwi nutritionists on Parkinson's reduction via keto, he would have adopted the changes being the logical engineer he was, and would be alive and well today. I only found out this stuff few months ago, but been low carb intermittent faster for last few years.
My mother has dementia. It’s progressing. Desperate for dementia help. She lives in Sun City West and I live in Chicago. Thank you for this valuable information.
I have been listening to this Doctor a lot lately and he’s my new crush! So sweet, so smart, so handsome! Then I heard him say that he rides a motorcycle 🏍️ and that completely sealed the deal! My husband's Mother had Dementia, she wound us getting RSV and passed away about a month ago. His Father has Alzheimer's, late stages, is in a nursing home in NH. My husband is Type 1 Diabetic, he met you Dr. Berry at KPL and asked you a question that has helped ease his mind. With being on the ketogenic way of eating since 10/2020, his diabetes has improved immensely (AC from 7.9 to 6.1 now). I feel his dystonia has been maintained also with eating this way!! I lost my mom in March is year, she wa 77. She spent the last year of her life in a care home, going steadily downhill. Within just a few months she stopped taking for the most part & did not usually recognize visitors. She was a very creative, sociable, happy person reduced to a 90 lb invalid. I had no idea about the info I've learned from Dr. Berry & others since her passing. If I'd had any idea about metabolic syndrome etc., I would have went right to work on her diet as a starter. As it stands, I will use the info to try & prevent myself from going down that same path. Thanks to the doctors out here giving us info that we actually need.

Happy to see more work in functional neurology. I too have never been helped by a conventional neurologist, be it for my parents or my dogs. Keep fighting the good fights.
I have been using what you might call the modified Atkins diet for 11 years as of this Friday. It works so well for general well-being, reversal of metabolic syndrome and improvement of energy levels that I would recommend it to anyone with a neurologic condition. Chances are if you have a neurologic condition you have metabolic syndrome. Statistically speaking that is. I appreciate Dr. Phillips research because it did give me what I needed to encourage to patients with Parkinson's to make changes that have been wonderful in response. One was an exception to my rule and that he was metabolically well, even with a normal fasting insulin.
John, I think you're an MD in Montana, no? One caution about your last statement: a lot of people with "normal fasting insulin" can still have metabolic syndrome. I'm probably an example. I presented with fairly obvious metabolic problem: had been passing out after meals with perfect reliability for years. Sugars, carbs, knock me out. Also had increasing cognitive dysfunction, peripheral neuropathy. It all screams metabolic; I demanded testing. simple blood sugar test, HbA1c & glucose tolerance test. Yet clearly I had a metabolic problem. ALL medical tests are, as you know, a case of yin & yang: a battle for accuracy vs. specificity. So ALL medical tests have a (usually) known false negative/false positive rate. Problem: all medical tests in the hands of practicing clinicians immediately tend to become a binary, pass/fail. Clinicians do NOT want to hear about false negs/pos. ALL THREE diagnostic tests have a known false-negative rate of about 28%: about one-third of all patients who SHOULD test positive, won't - for a variety of possible reasons. That's astounding, and (for patients) VERY disturbing. Not that there's a fail rate in testing (that's unavoidable if inconvenient). What's disturbing is the insistent ignorance of clinicians that there IS a fail rate. For instance, the A1c is clinically useless in asplenic patients. I lack a spleen: it was removed when I was a youth. I've pointed this out to my endocrinologist repeatedly, and provided her with ample documentation of the validation testing that was done on the test 40-50 years ago. Yet she continues to insist my score is perfect & "You don't have a problem." She's the fourth endocrinologist I consulted seeking treatment and the third GP. All sang the same song. None was interested in potential problems with the test. Another example of why A1c might fail (doesn't apply to me): it fails if the patient is black & has had sickle cell anemia. There are different reasons why the other tests fail in me, but they're all causes identified during validation testing long ago (since completely forgotten). (& no, I'm NOT an MD - just a frustrated patient with a consulting background): rely more on history & physical exam, less on test workups. As you were encouraged to do in Med School, but as too many clinician have since tended to ignore. For testing try fasting insulin, but what really counts is what happens to insulin when the patient eats. No one wants to test that. I've tried. I was diagnosed repeatedly (diff clinicians) with PN & AD (early-onset). Told it wasn't treatable, was progressive, terminal & advanced (given a couple years maybe). Certainly wasn't functional. WAS stubborn: hit the library, the web. Took 2 years (had dementia!) but decided my problem was metabolic in etiology. Had to come up with own treatment plan: started with Atkins then hardcore Atkins (Keto, but didn't know back then that there was a name for it - Keto wasn't a thing the way it is now). Added 2 supplements (tried lots but only 2 work) and talked a neurologist into writing a prescription for one drug (Amantadine). I think they all helped. HAVE identified a few other things that help. Takes time - years - but I've reversed AD & PN substantially, convinced my neurologist to change his practice: he's using this protocol with all his patients, tells me (1 year in) that he's found considerable success where patients will stick to the plan (a lot of patients find going strict Keto is hard - many are elderly). And it definitely takes time - years. I'm thrilled you're helping patients with appropriate therapy. Hope you find helpful the caution about testing & clinical exceptions who display "normal fasting insulin" & don't flag positive on standard metabolic tests. Hope too you don't find my intrusion impertinent. Thanks for reading.
@@jamesthompson7282 Thank you very much for sharing your story. It is encouraging to me. When I was in Medical Student in the 80s I think they really tried to teach us how to think. Now the focus is on protocols and guidelines. The emphasis on listening to patients and trying to troubleshoot their problems has gone by the wayside. I appreciate the reminder about false positives and false negatives. Your comment about hemoglobin A1c are especially valuable. Continuous glucose monitors clearly demonstrate the limitations of hemoglobin A1c. I keep learning more every day. I appreciate when my patients to help me do research. They appreciate the fact that I will take their suggestions to heart. Yes I practice in Montana.
I've been on the Keto diet since the 4th, because of a high A1C and now my glucose is testing in the good range. Dr. Berry is my equivalent of an AA meeting.
I am so happy to hear the information presented in this wonderful video. At age 67 I have a little neuropathy and a mild case of essential tremor. I wondered about the role of metabolic health on my conditions. I'm feeling hopeful after this video. I'll be periodically asking fellow ET folks about their use of ketogenic and LCHF diets as it relates to a reduction of symptoms. Let's continue alone these liines, please!
Dr. Berry, Thank you so much for bringing in this guest. My nephew and nease are both young people and they both suffer from cerebral ataxia. I hope this info will help them improve their condition
Oddly, no one in our family - on either side - so far has ever had any kind of dementia. Also, none of our family members has ever had a stroke so far either. Perhaps it's because our diet has been heavily influenced by the majority Polish population in the town we grew up in... Lots of cabbage and red meat (pigs in a blanket, kielbasa with sauerkraut, ham and eggs, etc.)
My mom Died on 7/4 from Combination of Parkinson’s and dementia. She was on meds for over 20 years and it was a waste of money. Sure wish I had known this before now because I think I could have helped her
I'm sorry, Bethany. My mom passed from very fast PD in 2014. I did not know at the time that she was in dementia. We lived 2400 miles apart and I rarely saw her in person. I have regrets. I couldn't know what I didn't know, but it's my mother, so the standard is high.
My mom has Alzheimers. She is very stubborn and won’t give up sugar and carbs. We knew about keto and Bredesen when she barely had symptoms. She was not willing to make changes. Her symptoms have progressed. She’s in bad shape and is a full time job.
My boyfriend has Parkinson's and I had cancer..I'm doing keto and fasting and taking coq10 and excercise and alpha lipoic acid and red light therapy for my mitochondria..He's doing more meat but we r constantly tweaking his diet because he's too thin and his medicine lowers his appetite..Were trying to add more good fats ..He's afraid to eat butter etc but I'll keep trying ..Thank you.
Happy to find this video. My husband has Multiple System Atrophy. I am trying my hardest to get him on a Keto diet. I have done keto for years and am now carnivore. He has benefitted all these years even though he eats chips, candy and ice cream. I only make meals of meat and he gets a sweet potato or a vegetable now. We are 9 years into his disease he is 62.
I am stoked that I have been listening to dr ken berry for a couple years and dr matt phillips for a couple months because he lives here in nz... what a joy to hear that they agree on the fundermentals...
Great talk! Listening from Canada. My job is to look after my health and make my body ( terrain) a fighter and hope for some medical help when needed. I’m responsible to avoid sugar, consume saturated fat and protein, optimize V- D, B 12, HDL etc.
Huntington's disease runs in my husband's family. I've already lost my mother-in-law, husband, and youngest son to HD. My older son also has HD. When my husband was in the hospital, I realized how very little the medical profession knows about HD. I have had to educate many doctors on the disease. My mother-in-law never got an accurate diagnosis (it was before genetic tests). My husband had been seeing 2 different neurologists that were at a HD Center of Excellence and both of them misdiagnosed him and missed HD. His psychiatrist was the one who suspected HD and got him tested. My oldest son with HD had a heart attack last year. When he was in the hospital, the doctors would all profess to know about HD but they only seem to pay attention to the chorea severity. But in my husband's family, that is not an issue until the end of their lives. For years, it's the psychiatric and cognitive problems that are the most problematic.
My aunt and my father in law both passed away from Alzheimer’s. I was fond of both of them and gutted by one of their deaths. I started keto + IF to reverse diabetes but stayed on it for Alzheimer’s prevention. The family history scares me. Horrible disease. 😢
My father died of Alzheimer’s within 3 years of any symptoms. He was only 71. He was a career fighter pilot with several colitis ejections back in the fifties and sixties, and played football (not soccer) in high school and college. My brother is now in his 6 or 7th yer with Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson’s. He is 78 and still managing to be cared for at home, with aides and techs. My mom died at 90, inflammatory breast disease (Pretty much old age). I’ve had triple negative Breast cancer at 39, a cerebral aneurysm with a craniotomy at 43. Finally a ruptured colon, with peritonitis and all that crap, at 47. I’m now 73, ride a bike for exercise, and am almost the last one standing. Great video, very accessible and interesting! Pat
My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia a few weeks ago. I've watched several videos about it and realized that there is something you can do to reverse it.
I agree and don't give up. I have been taking care of my mom for 8 years. I cleaned up her diet, no sugar, no grain, no meat, no dairy, also no medications 3 months I gave her cilantro juice to clean up her body, and coconut oil. After 3 months I started the keto diet and supplements. I try everything that I read. She doesn't take any medicine, and her doctor doesn't understand how good she looks for who has Alzheimer's. It's a slow process, but I have seen the other diseases go away, so some day her brain will be clean too .

Did you see the article a couple of months ago in Stuff? I couldn’t believe it when my mother-in-law mentioned what she was reading in the Taranaki Daily News. I don’t go near the paper myself usually but this article was fascinating and encouraging.
Thank you both for a VERY informative video! That said...thank you, Dr. Berry, for attempting to always bullet point the information your guest was trying to offer, but with many more words than J.Q. Public can use to formulate their understanding of what was said. I've never understood, since being Carnivore, why people just don't get the simple truth. Nutrition Matters. We are what we eat. We eat to live, not live to eat. God provided the very best ancestral diet for us--just eat it and get on with your life! Everything about Carnivore makes good COMMON SENSE. Regarding fasting....why can't we just be Carnivore for a few weeks...begin to actually listen to our bodies -- cravings, tastes we enjoy and THEN, if we don't want to eat, OR we actually have a life now, that doesn't revolve around eating, and we just don't feel hungry--because we now know what that feeling really is...fast if you FEEL like it. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY finally! Why if we trust our bodies to know enough to get rid of the visceral fat first (pretty smart!) ...wouldn't we trust it to know when to and not to eat? Why does it have to be so scientific? God made our bodies to be in a state of healing....just LISTEN to your body! Thanks again Dr. Berry for being a doctor we can trust♥
Just starting to watch. So powerful. 5 years on ketovore, then carnivore turned my life around. However, my young brother died of parkinson about 2 years ago. I wanted to put it on carnivore but could not fight the system and find the words to talk to family. We have 2 more family members with parkinson, one dead, one survivor. Kids with diabetes. Love the terrain theory.akes sense. Powerful. Thank you so much.
My Husband ids 49 yo and has newly diagnosed Glioblastoma in May of this year.. Resection is not an option. We have studied for 6 months and are treating as a metabolic disease along side of standard of care. We live in Middle Tennessee and are considering making an appointment with you Dr. Berry. Thank you for what you do to try and help people.
Check out Dr. Thomas Seyfield. Also checkout Paleolithic Ketogenic Diet and Advanced Ketogenic Therapies. They have had great success using this treatment
Thomas Seyfried was featured in UA-cam video with 4 people who had survived terminal cancer … one was the spouse of a woman with glioblastoma. It was very inspiring.
I agree with @rockydiane - find Thomas Seyfried. They are using a keto diet, along with meds to target glucose & glutamine, allowing for low dose cancer meds. He says glioblastoma is treatable.
My family has a story about the widow of a Revolutionary War soldier whose widow needed witnesses to verify her late husband was a veteran of that war. Over 30 veterans who knew her husband came forth to testify. They were all over age 70 having survived the war and no medical care in pioneer Kentucky. Probably ate the hunter diet.
Yes, I had a mother that died from Alzheimers and now my 79 yr old brother has gone to a memory care facility. He was in a drug trial for 3 years with no good result. His wife took him off the trial when he went into the facility. He also was on statins for high cholesterol. He would not get off them.
My mother has Alzheimers. She is 88 years old. She has been diabetic for over 40 years. We both went keto and intermittent fasting in 2019. She lost 50 lbs and was able to get off insulin injections. The Alzheimers has progressed slowly.
Presently my brother diagnosed with Parkinson’s, our mother also had Parkinson’s. Looking back we are fairly sure our granddad, mother’s dad, also had it.
I have recently found the information that 5 - 10% of parkinsons cases are due to generic factors. It means the inclination is there but not necessary it develops. Better start keto regime and intermittent fasting before you get it, too.
I know that feeling well... I know for a fact that I forgot things when I was kid but now when I can't remember something it comes with a micro panic attack
@@Paul-hl5lsI became super sensitive to my own lapses of memory after my father died with dementia; I was looking for signs. But then I reminded myself (lol) that I have always been like that - walking upstairs and then forgetting what I was there for. Everyone does that. It's less about memory than distraction, failure to be present. It's not a good habit but it is the human condition. Absorbed in a task, a sport, a skillful activity we can be in flow and totally focused on what we are doing. To be in this state at all times is impossible but practice of mindfulness will expand the intervals of being present. Don't worry :)
Read Dr. Palmer's book Brain Energy. It is very enlightening as someone with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. It helps clarify the very real impact of the standard American diet on mental health and dementia.
Thank you, Dr. Berry for the different videos you have done on this topic. My Dad had Parkinsons that lead to frontotemporal dementia and my Mom had Alzheimers. I wish I had known all the information that I have come to learn this past year when I was helping take care of them but at least I know now and can incorporate things I've learned for myself and my siblings as the odds for us aren't that good.
I am 57 year old female with an undiagnosed movement disorder that began last winter. I also have head pain daily and insomnia. I have used the paleo diet since February 7th and have already seen results!!! I am using supplements for blood sugar and oregano oil and silver for viruses. Methyline blue in small amounts. All of this is allowing me to walk better and talk clearly again. I have used ambien for sleep for a while. When I got bad this winter, I noticed that when I took the ambien at night, the uncontrolled movements disappeared and my speech was normal!! So in December, I took ambien in microdoses during the day. It helped with ALL my symptoms. I had to stop using ambien in that way so that I could sleep at night. I realize that ambien is not approved for use in this way. However, I found scholarly articles about using ambien for movement disorders in other countries!!! So, I pray that you guys see my post and someone please check into this!!!
My grandmother had dementia for 18 years. It was awful watching her deteriorate. I'll never know if my mother would have gotten it because she passed away at 62. A couple of her brothers did succumb to it eventually. My MIL now has it and is non-verbal for the last few years already. It is such a heartbreaking disease.
Great vid, thank you. The hardest thing is finding a health care provider who truly understands Metabolic Syndrome and how to deal with it. I have been on a low carb - then Keto - now carnivore diet for almost 2 years. Still looking for for a GP/Cardiologist - hell I'd go to a veterinarian if I could find one (BTW - some vets get this better than MDs/NDs) Would be nice if you posted the clinics in the various countries that deal with this. I have been on several sites and still no luck, even the one posted by Dr Berry. On my own, making progress, no longer Pre-diabetic but would like help with overal numbers that are not responding as well as I would like.

My mom has Alzheimer’s. She’s 71 and was diagnosed at 69 even though she had symptoms for years prior to that diagnosis. She’s currently on aricept. I think it’s fair to say it has little to no affect on her. Her condition is progressing quickly. And though they may do the best they can, the neurologist has really been no help. In fact, she went down hill fast after her official diagnosis. It’s a terrible disease. It’s too late for my mom to get help but I’ll continue to educate myself with videos like this.
This is a great video on how to help a loved one who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s or alzheimers or dementia to cope better and easier with their illness; just by changing their diet to a ketogenic/ carnivore diet - under the supervision of their physician.
This is so close to my gained understanding over the past ten years. I was heading rapidly downhill with health, and had several wake-up call realizations that led me to read the research literature, and pointed to the pathways described so effectively in this presentation. Now, one further comment and question-provoking expansion that I have started down tentatively, is a better understanding of the research for mitochondrial functionality that takes into account quantum mechanics (physics). Especially, the importance of the light spectrum in daylight. It is becoming aware of how we 'eat' light as another evolutionary adaptive pressure. I would love to see this conversation, during a part two, include some provisions of light 'therapy' toward mitochondrial functionality support in line with paleo conditions at mid latitudes! Thank you! Excellent presentation!
I hope someone from the carnivore community can get through to the people treating Bruce Willis. If his condition can be effectively treated by the carnivore diet, it will be a game changer. Imagine the message that would send, the publicity, and the impact it would have for him and everyone else out there suffering.
Yes. Holding both theories in mind at same time so important. When patients get UTIs after going back to drinking sodas all day long, terrain has a lot to do with bacteria action.
My grandmother passed from Dimentia. Her body was donated to science for study. I was told she had a rare form of Dimentia. Idk, just what I was told. I'm concerned about myself in regard to this. I am SIGNIFICANTLY stressed right now in my life and am forgetting things. I'm hoping this isn't a precursor. I'm going to get back on the horse and get serious!
Fasting has done amazing things for me, but it is confusing when Keto experts I trust warn against fasting because they don't believe in fasting. I wonder if they ever really tried it themselves. So much social pressure against Keto and Fasting, but when you start to get amazing results then you can tune them out better, but they still don't believe till they try it for themselves. Dr Phillips insights from working with patients really helps to understand the social pressures and how to successfully help more stay with it. Thank your for sharing.
Hi, I fully agree. I see ketogenic diets and fasting protocols as cousins. Both can have a role but one may be more effective than the other in certain circumstances. Sincerely, Matt.

My husband Dan has Parkinson’s disease. He was diagnosed at 60. He's 66 now. We're going to start this lifestyle now for both of us. My last physical showed me getting close to pre-diabetic ACL numbers.
My Uncle was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s and his condition worsened quite a bit over the last few years. However, I suggested that he adopt a Keto duet with a bulletproof coffee every morning to boost his healthy fat levels for improved brain function and his symptoms (tremors/shaking, mental fog and confusion, vertigo and balance issues, General pain, depression and anxiety, etc) have improved DRAMATICALLY in only a few short months. He’s also lost 50 lbs and is feeling so much better mentally and physically. I found you Dr Berry about 19 mos ago and have lost 65 lbs, reversed my T2 diabetes (A1C 7.5 to now 5.6), high blood pressure, chronic arthritis in my knees, acid reflux and sleep apnea, triglycerides now normal (220 to 100), HDL higher, and also reversed my depression and anxiety, and so much more on a PHD starting Keto and now Ketovore. Thank you so much Dr Berry (and Neisha!!) for everything you do to help people achieve optimal physical and mental health. You guys are literally lifesavers. 🤗🍾🙏👍
I have Dysphonia, a Neurological disorder effecting nerve conduction of muscles that control vocal chords. Hoping Carnivore diet will help. This interview with Dr Matthew Phillips is very encouraging.
Sister/Friend with PD who has been dedicated to good eating, mostly veggies, low fat, etc. Doesn't know that is the WORST nutrition for PD. Her 'belief' like most of us is that way of eating is the best for health and weight management. UGH. They have her on STATINS for gawd sakes. Yikes. Trying to get her to rethink (without preaching) what the conventional medical community is trying to push for her PD and IF questioned about diet sure her way if eating looks look to them. Thank you for all you do!. Love Dr Berry and know that his and his colleagues' information is based on fact and NOT big pharma and big food and big insurance driven influence.
Dr. Berry has never seen me, he doesn’t even know I exist, but he has had a bigger impact on my health then any doctor I’ve met. He honours his Hippocratic oath every day.
Same here. Dr Berry helps me with his UA-cam videos. I send links for his videos to my friends.

I lost my dad to Alzheimer’s at 69.
I started carnivore a year ago and what a difference. My physical and mental health have improved so much. I’m a 55 year old male.
I’ll continue to eat this way.

How did you're dad eat do you think that helped,,
Me, Pat Williamson frontal lobe dementia.
Wow...
Fantastic, I'm so pleased for you!
I bet you will improve more. Keep up the good diet!

@patwilliamson4701 Hi Pat!
There are two dietary supplements that are documented to cross the blood-brain barrier are neuro-protective (endorsed by the FDA no less):
1) Alpha lipoic acid.
If the cause of your dementia is something other than metabolic dysfunction, you may need something else as treatment.
Thank God for Men like Dr. Berry and Dr. Phillips who are not afraid to swim against the torrent of conventionalism. Great interview!
As a former activities director, often working with dementia patients, I did things like create a "cafe" where music from their era was played, I had an apron and asked what they wanted from our menu. Within this context I was able to encourage conversation - play board games, dance -- before I started this the TV room was the only place they gathered...And I saw activity as both helpful for the individual and the staff (aides) that had to help them
Cool you that you did this for these dementia patients.

Hello! Have you started your mom on keto/carnivore diet? How is she now?
…not giving medical advice…but i would highly recommend researching high dose vitamin B1 therapy as a helpful protocol for healing neurological conditions in conjunction with keto/carnivore. (See Elliot’s EONutrition as a starting point to educate yourself on how deficient most of us are and how it has helped many with neurological conditions. Dr. Peter Osborn and LowCarbDownUnder also have numerous links to many related research studies.)
I have improved greatly

How do you think a mitochondrial disease would be effected by a carnivore diet?
Is a LIE!

Hi I'm in NZ too and have PD. Is your husband continuing to improve? I've been keto for 3 years and carnivore for 3 weeks

If you don't just give up, it says how much you love your loved one. I'll pray for you and your sister.😊

I'm sorry. Heartbreaking. I hope this info can help you and your wife. ❤❤
Hugs for you and your wife.

These two doctors should be in charge of everything.
good to hear a GP (as we call 'em here in Australia) talk so frankly about the frustration of dealing with Neurologists in terms of improving outcomes in patient health, as a patient this has been my experience too.

What is the dose of B1 that he is taking ? How does he manage his symptoms without meds? I truly appreciate your support. ❤❤
Come back and give updates, praying for you both,
@@auroramatera7555He’s recently just started the high dose B1, he’s up to 200mg of the TTFD form, but also takes a multi B complex which has 100mg of the HCL form and magnesium.
Please update us as you can
Merry Christmas and Happy happy New Year 2024. Please share with me the dose of B1 and how it helps him. Thanks 🙏

I lost my mom in March is year, she wa 77. She spent the last year of her life in a care home, going steadily downhill. Within just a few months she stopped taking for the most part & did not usually recognize visitors. She was a very creative, sociable, happy person reduced to a 90 lb invalid. Dr Mathew Phillips‘ work is awesome!!! Thanks for the excellent interview

Thank you very much for sharing your story.

@@susanneschauf7417 My mom was the same. We argued in the beginning, but I knew it was for her good . I didn't give up. It's alot work, but I'm still trying.
@glaciela34 Thank you for sharing and encouraging me. I will keep at it 😊👍🏻
Brilliant discussion, thank you. So pleased to have Dr Philips in NZ working towards solutions using keto and fasting.
People worldwide would be seeking help from Dr. Berry if he still practiced! I too am from middle Tennessee and docs of his caliber don't exist here!😢
Thomas Seyfried was featured in UA-cam video with 4 people who had survived terminal cancer … one was the spouse of a woman with glioblastoma. It was very inspiring.
Go watch Dr Chaffee. Neurosurgeon who treats GB with Carnivore & fasting. Great results.
I agree with @rockydiane - find Thomas Seyfried. They are using a keto diet, along with meds to target glucose & glutamine, allowing for low dose cancer meds. He says glioblastoma is treatable.
Sent this to my mom, thanks so much to the both of you for the info🙏🏼
Thx Drs Berry and Phillips for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
My dad passed away from Alzheimer’s. His Mother passed away from Alzheimer’s. Two of his sisters have it. I’m terrified of it. 😢
Sounds like Ketosis and Fasting are your best tools
My Omi had it (mom’s side ). So my mom and I are also fearful.
Let’s do our best to avoid it🙂👊🏻
I know that feeling well...
Thanks to you both...
I was diagnosed with periventricular white matter disease.chronic angeopathic changes 2years ago.am beginning to have balance issues double vision, memory problems slower processing in thinking. I'm 60. began carnivore 8months ago have blood pressure and diabetes under control first time in years.
I love you Dr. Berry.
I hope you keep sharing this type of information. Must be hard to give info not considered mainstream! Kudos to you Doctor Berry, and many thanks! Profound info, really enjoyed every minute! Grateful to you!
What awesome interview Ken! It was easily understood, practical and offered totally different view to look at 4 diseases that everyone want to avoid, As a Kiwi we are very proud of Matt Phillips! Keep up the great work! 👍👍👍
Thank you for all you do and all the research ❤️
Your think Michael J Fox would be interested in the diet aspect, but his organization won’t help fund these types of studies. Such a shame.
Excellent discussion.
Most people listen to the explanations and science of keto and fasting and then respond with likes and dislikes.
Richard,.thanks dr.ken Berry great interview with this Doctor i definitely will watch this recorded interview again you both are very right to the point.thanks for keeping it real for our health and wellbeing info.take care sir.👍5*****s
My husband Dan has
Parkinson’s disease.
Dr.Mary Newport
I have Dysphonia, a Neurological disorder effecting nerve conduction of muscles that control vocal chords. Hoping Carnivore diet will help. This interview with Dr Matthew Phillips is very encouraging.
hey, just wanted to see if you had an update for us and would share with us
Sister/Friend with PD who has been dedicated to good eating, mostly veggies, low fat, etc.
Husband recently diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, sister with Alzheimer’s, niece with Huntingtons.
Dementia grandmother wish I new then what I know now thanks for this video
