I tried for several years to get my sister to try keto and carnivore and sent her countless memes, articles, and videos but it was a Ben Bikman video that sent her down the path of carnivore.
I’m 68 years old had a stroke 7 months ago did not eat meats was a vegan for 2 years now back to eating meat I am doing well and I can say it works thank you very much doc berry
I have FH and have had a stroke even though I lost weight. I think my CAC score of 117 is due more to over 60 years of eating too much sugar and highly processed foods. A little afraid to go full out carnivore, but def feel comfortable eating more beef, butter, and eggs, but still eat a lot of fruits and and non-starchy vegetables. It’s been easier to set a “bright line” about not eating “foods” that include added sugar, grains, and/or seed oils, but am still hesitating about going full carnivore. Is it possible that this kind of eating (carnivore) is better for the majority of people, but maybe not for me? I’m focusing on eating more fatty fish, but don’t like it yet.

I started carnivore Monday and I am loving it! I'm obese and diabetic , my gallbladder was removed couple years ago and I have fatty liver disease. I haven't been able to eat beef in years and very little other meats. I have been stuck on trying a vegan, a vegetarian and keto and all failed and I was horribly sick. I have only ate steak and eggs all week and I feel FABULOUS! I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it in my clothes already. I can not digest veggies or grains at all. I haven't had any gas or bloating all week. I thank The Most high above for stumbling onto your youtube!
Oh yes! I remember the feeling of wellness and contentment I developed after the first few days of meat and eggs. It was quite overwhelming to experience the absence of pain and discomfort. Some days are not quite so great, as your body adapts and heals, just remind yourself that the process is continuing when you stumble or get stuck. Cheering for you!
All I can say is thank you Dr. Berry. I started a rather rough journey back in February this year. I had a boil that turned into septic shock on me. I ended up being taken to the hospital with a blood sugar level of 1099 and my ac1 was at a 12. After I was brought back down and recieved surgery I was given the news that I was type 2 and told how to maintain my problem. Man I was lost and I found you and a few others that helped guide me. I switched to very clean meat and good fat diet with a few vegetables here and there and cleaned up my whole diet and started 12-14 hour fasting and I went from 289-197 in 5 months. My ac1 is sitting at a 4.8 and my resting blood glucose is at 80. I no longer take the insulin or the metformin. You helped me through this scary and lost part of my life and just wanted you to know that you are making a difference and you helped me find my way. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS.
Bravo! You learned from Dr. Berry and other teachers and ran to good health with that information! Most people don't even try. Congratulations to you for saving your own life...with our teachers' help. You would be a terrific Dave Mac interview!

I got labs today at work. I'm 61 years old 5'9" 165lbs ketogenic since 2019. Carnivore since June 2023. All numbers fasting: A1C 5.3 Glucose 94 LDL 153 HDL 91 TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 258. As is my shoulder bursitis and ankle and knee pain, all gone since getting rid of the plants. Thanks Dr Ken!
Thanks to you, Dr. Bikman, Lustig, et. al., I have stopped eating processed food. Without "good" information I would not have made the change. Thank you!
I think people know that processed foods probably aren't very healthy for you. But changing is the challenge. Most people lack the willpower and discipline to change.
It's like you tell a child don't touch the hot stove.. they won't listen until they experience it. Yes, everybody probably knows that sugar and ultrproc food is bad but they probably don't know how bad it really is, they need to have a key experience to turn around. It doesn’t have to do with discipline. You need to give people a reason to change which is not communicated by today's health standards. For me it was wearing a continuous glucose monitor more like for fun and then starting to dig for answers to my questions about the data. I came across Dr Lustig and fell into the rabbit hole. I was shocked about the stuff I had no clue about, and same applies to probably most everybody

I was literally reading "Why we get sick" this am while waiting to have my blood panel drawn at LabCorp. I added the fasting insulin test to boot. I have been following the keto diet for over a year now. Down 40lbs. I weigh less than I did in my junior year of high school. I am 45. I play competitive soccer 1 day a week and coach my 2 sons' soccer teams. I am now running 4-6 miles a week. My 2 older parents(75+) are in the throws of T2D, cardiomyopathy, afib, cancer, fatty liver, and more. I just wish I could get through to them with the PHD and what Prof.Bikman are all about!
I haven't even fully switched to lion diet because I can't put down the sweetened coffee with cream. Honestly those two are my weaknesses at this point -- the cream and sugar. But even with that, after a few weeks, I'm noticing all kinds of good. My muscle tone's increasing and I haven't started exercising, and my ability to relax is also greatly heightened -- I feel a deep relaxation where I used to feel a bit of fatigue, almost a stressful kind of tiredness. I think both of those changes might be related directly to the production of chemicals et al involved in muscle contraction.
Just today my primary doctor got mad because I will not take a statin. He told me the doctors I am listening to are quacks. He says the standard of care for a diabetic is to take statins. He says the bad things about statins are not true.
I have a high cholesterol which I have had for years. I read a book on cholesterol and did further research to find it’s normal with some ways of eating
If you opt to stay with this Doctor while searching for a more open-minded one, perhaps you might point him to some of the research that these doctors whom he is calling "quacks" are basing their knowledge on. It probably won't do any good but it's always worth a try.
I went from a vegetarian high-glycemic diet to a healthy keto diet & IF. My bloodsugar went down but my HbA1C went up by 0.3 points !! I ve been freeking out until I heard this podcast today. Thank you so much.
What’s a “healthy keto diet”? Obviously You’re still way too high on carbs or high glycemic foods. Sugar free foods and boxed keto trash are usually the culprit. Maltodextrin is in most sugar free garbage. It’s more spikey on your blood sugar than sugar. It’s criminal.

I will agree that this is one of the best interviews I’ve heard. I’m so excited to hear people start talking more about the flaws in the theory of evolution and opening their minds to the more reasonable and plausible theory of a creator!
Both doctors agreed there was evolution but Dr Bickman said no evidence. What neither said was the complete lack of evidence for macro evolution. Very short version my view. There are two types of evolution. Micro (adaption. Real) and macro (change from one kind to another. False). The chimp has 70% DNA a banana has 50% DNA. Macro Evolution is a Hypothesis not a theory. God did not use macro evolution, that would mean there was un living, illness, disease, osteoarthritis and tumours, before man arrived. At the same time it negates the death of a man on a cross. If God used macro evolution then He introduced sin NOT man, Which means we do not need Jesus to save us, we are innocent victims. Which we are not.
Thank you, Professor Bikman, for acknowledging that there is NO logical contradiction in believing in both Evolution AND in a Divine Creator. Thanks also for stating that ‘belief’ and ‘theory’ are excellent words. You are a model of diplomacy! 🙏
I Was told by my doctor I needed to be a vegetarian and take medication to lower my blood pressure. I ended up getting worse and I ended up having a stroke. I decided to just start eating meat and after 7 months I feel better. I no longer have high blood pressure or taking any medication. Whatever your going through I hope you feel better.
Vegetarianism is a bad nightmare ! You learned the hard way by being lied to by people pushing plant based BS ! And the proper human diet is making you healthy again, steak and eggs baby !
LOVED this conversation. The willingness to talk about evolution was so refreshing. My highly educated 30 something children get flustered with me when I call evolution a theory and not a law.
They’ll learn one day :) We have all taken a lot of information in this world as Truth, without understanding “how the sausage is made.” Many more false idols and sacred cows that don’t serve our best interests out there…best to ya 💪
It's a bad theory based on a poor usage of the scientific method. No one except God was there in the beginning. He told us what he did. I used to believe in evolution and called myself an atheist. But when I got better information I realized that the Bible was way more accurate than all of that stuff I was taught. None of the scientists that promote an old age of the universe and evolution were there in the beginning. And none of the methods that they use to extrapolate into the past are accurate Beyond a few thousand years. Which is what the Bible says about the age of the earth. Approximately 6,000 years.
Respectfully, this is a misunderstanding of language. Your words imply that there's some kind of hierarchy wherein a theory is inferior and "just a wild guess" but a law is superior and somehow more proven. That's just not how those words are used in science. Laws are predictive rules about how nature is expected to act under specific circumstances, often small enough to be written as an equation. Theories are overarching explanations of how and why nature works in those ways. In order to be widely accepted by scientists a theory must be well supported by many different lines of evidence over a period of time, including experimentation. Laws can be used as evidence to support theories but theories will never become laws because they serve a totally different function. Certainly Evolution is a Theory, but that does not make it lesser. One of these doctors is a cell biologist, which is built on *Cell Theory*.
Started Carnivore 1st January this year, Im 69. My A1c was 5.4 on the 18th of May tested at the Public Health Collaboration Annual Conference 2024 in London. I was 16st 5 lbs now 12st 2lbs. I had gout attacks that lasted for weeks with uric acid levels in the 8’s and 9’s. I began a plant-based diet with zero fruit and low carbs, e.g. no grains, legumes, etc. Uric acid shot up to 12.1! So I committed to carnivore. Now my uric acid is in the 6’s and has been as low as 5.6. This video is getting me interested in allulose to further lower the levels. Thank you both!!

Ben and Ken are kings in my opinion! Wishing they were here in England have learnt so much from them, often to face criticism from my peers! Thanks for your advice, i still keep sharing despite the challenges from my friends.
I dont go to the doctor unless its next to impossible for me to heal. Had a lump/cyst in my leg so had to go a few months ago. My doctor slowly explained to me why i need certain tests done (all age related,67 yrs old) and seemed to know ahead of time i was going to say no to all of them. He looked so sad, almost as if he regretted even having to ask me but there was a new assistant with him he was training. He asked me twice a year ago if ive had my jab. I said nope dont need it! So the last visit he asked/recommended that i have a bone density test, mammogram, shingles and a shot for old people pneumonia. I said no thanks to all. Theyre not pulling that crap on this girl! 🙏🏻❤️🤣
I just turned 63 last month and recently had bloodwork done for the 1st time since changing over to Carnivore and was informed by my GP that all but one of results she said are pristine. The exception being my cholesterol and she once again recommended going on statins which I politely refused. A cardiologist would want me on statins even tho I'm considered a low risk for heart disease. Go figure. I told my GP that I am eating low carb and she thought I would do well with the Mediterranean diet....no thank you. I feel better than I have in decades all thanks to people like Dr. Berry and others like him.
You did not mention if you were following a low carb diet. If not Doing so would be the best for your future health. First time I've heard of American Diabetes Society. This is real good news! It would be great if Dr Richard Bernstein could be part of this. His book and all he teaches is similar to yours and is what has kept my Type 1 Diabetic son's A1C at a steady 5.6 and lower rate at minimal insulin doses.

For slightly high a1c, I thought Paul Mason's recommended test of reticulocytes was spot on. As long as a low number is not accompanied by other indications of a pathology like anemia, it will support/confirm a lower demand due to slower turnover -- ie longer-lived red blood cells!
@@MK-ft3qt Mason's method is to test reticulocytes -- if that's low, and no pathology is otherwise indicated, the indicated cause will likely be low demand due to increased red blood cell longevity. Don't know if he has been able to verify the strength of this association by independent tests. Ken has a fairly recent discussion with him in one of his videos. FYI, my a1c was 5.7 when last checked, so my 5+ years of ketovore has done a great deal of good for this 73 yo carcass, and I'm going to credit lower senescence of red blood cells, as well as better skin!
@@robertphillips93 I think I understand. He's saying if a person has a normal RBC count on a CBC blood draw, the low riticulocyte RBC count will be low because there's no demand for more production of RBC's because the RBC are living longer.
Thank you for speaking on the question of faith and evolution. I have an acquaintance who is atheist and loves to mock my faith. He invokes human evolution as though it is a proven, documented fact. A couple of years ago I said that we can agree to disagree, but he persisted with his snarky attack. So I told him that he has his religion and I have mine. He was very upset by that comparison.
@@gins8781 A common misconception among those who deride faith is that it is mainly for purposes of receiving solace and strength. As if that just about sums up the deepest human needs!
Despite I convinced the GP to order the fasting serum insulin test, despite the blood was drawn put on ice and sent to the laboratory, the test was not done. This is in one of the biggest (surely not the best) hospital in the country, proud to be partner of the Trinity College. That's Ireland. 😬
Thank you for giving us answers that are saving lives. For many years I have noticed that when I am fasting and am cooking a meal for my family, that the smell of the cooking food is almost like having eaten. My hunger and weakness is greatly decreased in just smelling the food and possibly due to the business of working in the kitchen.

At 78 you need a raised LDL. T Cells go into retirement at our age and LDL is part of the immune system. C victims of the past 4 years were more likely to survive C if they had a higher than normal LDL. Those with what Drs say have normal LDL were more likely to PASS. My mind & memory is improving still after years of a Carnivore diet with sweet/carbo binges. Now on a strict Carnivore & in three weeks I notice improvements! 😊
I managed my son's type 1 diabetes for several years, and in the case of type 1 diabetes, you know that the insulin you use is what's required to manage the total daily effects of food. I started him on a very carb controlled diet at about 25% carbs (30 grams 3x per day) and about 60% fat. He had to use about 1 unit of insulin for every 6 grams of carbs he ate at a meal, or about 5 units per meal x 3, and also basal insulin about 8 units a day. On a suggestion of a high carb type 1 diabetic researcher, I tried a 75% carb diet for 10 days. Within 3 days I had to reduce his insulin to 1 unit per 15 grams of carbs. His basal insulin also dropped a little. This happened gradually over 3 days though. Note that his total daily insulin requirements were the same, even though the insulin for a given number of carb grams was greatly reduced. When he returned to the 25% carb diet it also took about 3 days to go back to his old carb ratios. Now, it does demonstrate that muscles will load up on fatty acids or on glycogen depending on what is present. The 25% carb diet produced less variability in blood sugar, and particularly less risk of low blood sugar and lower peak blood sugar that occurred later. This also shows that insulin resistance should be based on insulin required to manage total energy expenditure. Some high carb advocates point to the fewer carbs covered by a unit of insulin and refer to it as insulin resistance, but on a total food basis there was no change. However, also note that low carb diets don't require LESS daily insulin than high carb diets. The exception would be that if the high carb diet pushes blood sugar up faster, it might result in hypersecretion of insulin which may also result in lower lows, and an increase in counter-regulatory hormones like cortisol, adrenaline and glucagon, so high carb might require a little more insulin because people hyper secrete, but carbs don't tend to do this if they are consumed around activity. Also the lowest insulin requirements occurred when switching from high fat to high carbs, but the lowest occurred in the 3 days switching from high carb to high fat. Overall, low carb/high fat lowers peak spikes after meals, raises baseline blood sugar, raises fasting insulin slightly, and reduces the overall range on the high and low end, but has no effect on total daily insulin exposure unless enough fast carbs are consumed to cause high spikes which result in hypersecretions, hypoglycemic trending, and stress hormone counter regulation. Oh, and one more thing, "slow, low GI carbs" like al dente pasta and legumes required 1.5-2.0x as much insulin to manage relative to their carb content than other carb sources, and extended over 6-12 hours. They seem to stimulate the release of liver glycogen as they pass through the intestines, so low GI carbs are probably the worst for total insulin exposure.
I don't think pasta or legumes are low on the glycemic index. Veggies are but even Brussels sprouts and broccoli will raise my bs. Meat, seafood and butter keep my bs on a very even keel
It's relative. Al Dente pasta is about 40 and if there is fat and protein it can be 20. Low glycemic index, but high glycemic load. Legumes are similar. Note that my post does NOT recommend them by the way, but it's largely because they are inflammatory.
Funny, when I went keto back in 2018, I was binge-watching everything I could find on the interwebs, and virtually NOBODY was discussing the Randall cycle... until Prof. Bart Kay showed up on the scene. Bart - thanks for raising that 60 year old piece of science to its current status. I'm sure if Big Food, Pharma and Agriculture had their way, it would have remained buried.
@@brucemckay6615 Saw it as soon as it came out. Bart knows the Randle Cycle inside out. I watched Bikman's clip before Bart got to it, and as soon as Bikman said "Insulin Resistance" I knew Bart was going to have a field day. Unfortunately, Bikman still seems to consider it to be a pathology to be treated (like most of the medical community), whereas Bart points out that is a normal physiologic cellular response to protect itself, and there is a simple 'fix' - "stop pouring carbs down your stupid gob!" 🤣
@@masterchiefburgess Calling it insulin resistance implies a malfunction, Downregulation of Insulin Receptors due to oxidative stress from excess glucose sounds better.
Minute 31, I totally agree with Dr. Berry. I believe that some people do get fat by looking at a picture of food. Chain reaction to dump insulin into blood stream. That’s why time restricted eating works so well for me.
And there it is. My doctor could not give me an answer as to why my RBC is continuously been high for the past 5 years. You helped me realize that's my marker for the other problem I'm chasing, insufficient autophagy!
Would have been great if Prof. Bikman talked to Prof. Bart Kay about the Randle Cycle. They probably agree on 90% of the things, a polite debate between the two would have been quite educational
@@doffmoffin As I mentioned, with Ben Bikman they probably have 90% agreement, so hugely doubt that would get ugly. A few very minor things as it seems with the Randle Cycle, and personally I'd really be interested in hearing them debate insulin resistance
Bart isn't a scientist in the field of bioenergetics and doesn't understand it the way Ben does, which is still a practicing scientist in that field. I do believe Bart is a good scientist, but he isn't the "best" and the "smartest" scientist he portrays in his youtube channel reaction videos. Both have very educational info, but the person who you put your trust in is where the disagreement between the two will be irrelevant. Ben has more scientific experience in the Randle Cycle than Bart has, so his disagreement would be unfounded, unfortunately. The two gentlemen don't need to debate it would only bring a negative view to the people who "think" is wrong. Watch both of their content, and you can draw a conclusion of the info without them debating each other. There is no such thing as debating facts only opinions.

Dr.Berry and Prof. Bikman thank you
Thanks to you, Dr.
@@333Susannediscipline does factor in. Sugar addiction is powerful. I've read countless comments of ppl that know of it's evils, go keto or carnivore and still fall off the wagon.
@@patedwards8844 sure, it factors in, but it's easier to keep in check if you're mentally determined and for that you need to have a pretty good motivation why you're doing it, hence logical explanation helps.
Mine tell me to eat veggies cause I need them! lol 😂 they don’t know all the chemicals on them.
Hope you find a better doctor. I no longer trust any "scientist" who is closed to having old knowledge updated by better data.
The Great Cholesterol Myth is a very informative book.
Sounds like you need a new doctor. I stay away from them as much as possible.

@BeefNEggs057 how do you know Doudou still high on carb, or boxed keto trash???

Thanks
They’ll learn one day :)
We have all taken a lot of information in this world as Truth, without understanding “how the sausage is made.”
Many more false idols and sacred cows that don’t serve our best interests out there…best to ya 💪

For slightly high a1c, I thought Paul Mason's recommended test of reticulocytes was spot on. As long as a low number is not accompanied by other indications of a pathology like anemia, it will support/confirm a lower demand due to slower turnover -- ie longer-lived red blood cells!
Are you saying a lower RBC on a riticulocyte count might me normal? If RBC count is low, would HCT and HGB be low as well?

Love it when the 2 best brains In the keto space get together!!
Excellent discussion! Thank you both.
The Power of Bart Kay compels me to summon him because you said Randal Cycle.
👍
Funny, when I went keto back in 2018, I was binge-watching everything I could find on the interwebs, and virtually NOBODY was discussing the Randall cycle... until Prof. Bart Kay showed up on the scene. Bart - thanks for raising that 60 year old piece of science to its current status. I'm sure if Big Food, Pharma and Agriculture had their way, it would have remained buried.
Yeah…. Watch BK’s review of Ben Bikman’s recent commentary on the Randle Cycle…. I’d say BK understands it a lot better than BB….

Would have been great if Prof. Bikman talked to Prof. Bart Kay about the Randle Cycle. They probably agree on 90% of the things, a polite debate between the two would have been quite educational
I don't think you can use "polite" and "Bart Kay" in the same sentence.
@@doffmoffin True statement!
Failed scientist and algae salesman Bart Kay just did a video correcting Bikman's ignorance and criminal misunderstanding of the Randle Cycle. And he wasn't bitter or a knob at all.
