@@dudessjoddie it depends on which language you mean ahaha! the “cc” sound actually depends on the letter you find next. In this case it is “I” so it is a “sweet” sound in Italian like in English you pronounce the word “China”. In the word “bocca” (mouth in Italian) the “cc” is pronounced hard, like in “thick” plus the “a” Italian sound. Hope this makes sense :)
How did you know that I’ve been thinking about making focaccia bread? When I was first married, we lived in a duplex, the owner, Dina was an elderly Italian who was absolutely adorable. She was a jewel. A retired seamstress, she would make her “gravy”, talk about when she came over on a ship as a young girl and as she showed me her photographs, many times standing in front of a “machine” (cars). She would call me and let me know she made us some focaccia bread. I always wished I had asked her to teach me her recipes. Thank you for sharing your recipes, your beautiful photos/film/stories of your farm and beautiful family. Blessings and thanks! Teresa
This is my 9 year old nephew’s favourite bread. The bakery always runs out of it when we try to buy him some. He’ll be so happy to make some with his mum. Thanks so much for the awesome recipe! 🖤
My notes on glutenfree foccacia: Add little less than half a teaspoon baking soda after flour Full packet of sweet dough yeast Poke after 30 min add more olive oil and let rise Chill in fridge about 40-50min bake at 225C for 20-25 min only do around 2,5-3 cups flour and 1 cup water And Yes it is ABSOLUTLY DIVINE
I just made this and oh my goodness. It’s amazing! I always doubt my baking abilities but you make it so easy with your recipes and instructions and I’m so thankful!! Thank you for sharing your recipes and knowledge with all of us!
Wow ! John you nailed it ! Best methods for nonprofessionals! Thank you! You are the only chef who makes it possible for home casual bakers! My focaccia turned out so good, exactly like your! You are real my friend, your videos are not just for entertainment ! Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just made this and swore to my husband I would never buy bread in a supermarket again. This is amazing!!! I'm starting to get used to making my own fresh focaccia now! I imagine making fresh bread for my family. Ahhhhh core memories will soon be unlocked!
Oh yum! I'm really looking forward to making this recipe. It looks delicious! Brian's comment made me chuckle. You can feel the love in your home. It was lovely to see your beautiful land with the bees, goats, and sunflowers. Happy country living for sure!
John, I love your cooking videos! They are very clear, organized, informative and entertaining! You are my go to chef when I'm looking for a recipe! You're a rock star!
Thank you, John...this is probably the best bread I've ever made. Like you, I divided mine in half. I baked one in a round cast iron pan and the other in a 8 x 10 metal pan....they turned out awesome....takes some time but really pretty easy.
I'm really excited to try this recipe, my guy. I am not familiar with this type of bread but I love cooking with olive oil and this looks crazy delicious. I enjoy your videos & my baking game is really coming along. Never thought I'd get into baking but your post are just so appealing til I can't wait to try making one of your recipes. Keep 'em comin'! Much Respect!
I love focaccia! It’s my childhood’s favourite! However, the bakery nearby stopped making it one day and I always wanted to ask what that is. Twenty years later I know it’s focaccia and I still can’t buy it nearby (need an hour drive) - NOW I CAN MAKE IT MYSELF 😭 thanks John!!
JOHN ! you are my favorite chef on youtube honestly! i searched up how to make this bread , but instead i wrote dough . i didnt find ur video and when i tell u i was sad i WAS SAd untill i found ur video my smile appeared!❤ thank you for making amazing videos for us❤❤
my dough is rising overnight as we speak! for that final tablespoon of olive oil on top i think im going to infuse with some fresh garlic and finely chopped rosemary for a couple hours so get some additional flavor. CANNOT WAIT to try it!
The bread looks amazing, something I would like to make with my son. I love the way you sneak in your teacher comment about the sides, only one side in a sphere.
I loved how easy you made this recipe seem, so I tried it today. It turned out exactly like yours looked! My husband said that my focaccia looked and tasted the way it’s suppose to. It was beautiful, but didn’t last long because it was delicious!
I really enjoy watching all of the videos. They're so easy to follow and so are the written recipes! Also, love John's attitude in each video. He makes me smile😃 So far, so good with any recipes I've made!
There is a recipe online from Inspired taste, they infuse thyme, rosemary and garlic in some olive oil and add it to the dough and then let it rise. It taste 100x better I love it!
The amount of love you put into your recipes is amazing. You motivate me to prepare my own food at home. Thank you so much for these amazing recipes. I enjoy them. Can't wait to have my dream kitchen so I can be cooking more often.
Super easy to make! I would just replace the dry yeast with the fresh one, which isn’t always easy to find. It will make the focaccia easier on digestion.
wow? Majestic what a best recipe i love it and this si one of the new best recipe again i have been waiting for and its new to me, sounds not familiar but looks so yummy thanks for sharing this recipe
Brian is absolutely correct. ☑️ A Double “cc” in the 🇮🇹 Italian vernacular is spoken with an HARD “C” like the sounds of Kooky Kanell , not unlike our favorite Preppy🧑🏽🍳…John Kanell. 😉
This looks Ahhh-Mazing! I really want a piece of it! ❤ There's a newish place near us that serves a half order for like $4 and it comes with 3 butters; sundried tomato, garlic, and kalamata. They're all SOOO GOOD but yours looks better! yum
I didn’t get your book from Santa…so went to Amazon ( I think they are the real Santa)! Love your book! I have made the carrot cake, and it turned out just like the picture. Delicious! And I have done the dinner rolls. They were a hit! Look forward to checking out the quiches. Happy New Year!
Working at a bakery I made focaccia every night. One night I was careless and tipped the pan pulling it out of the oven. The oil poured down my arm. I scarred my whole forearm and a good part of my thigh and was off work for about 2 weeks. Still love it though lol
I love focaccia bread! I thought this would be more difficult, I will definitely need to try this. John - can I make this for my gluten-free bestie with almond flour? What, if anything else do I change? I love 💕 your videos so thanks for all of them.
As a gluten intolerant guy, I would use a little xanthan gum, and gluten free all purpose flour ( or you could use a couple of egg whites aswell). There's some absorption differences and it might need 10% more water. But almond flour will help with the retention of moisture. But I don't think you could use just almond flour.
Whenever I'm looking for a recipe on youtube, and I see you have a video for it, I completely disregard all other videos and recipes. I know yours is going to be the best one. Every. Time. 🎉❤
Just did the same thing lol
Literally just did the exact same
Oh my sameee!!
Me too 👍
I too follow this strategy!
Dear Italians, please don't kill John for mispronouncing focaccia, we love this man
Italian speaking here! His pronunciation is totally fine, and his recipe is *perfection*
Actually, Lucky for John I'm Sicilian & Napolitan. 1st we'd feed him THEN we'd. . Well, that next part
😂😂😂
@@ilariacaporali677 but ‘cc’ is ‘ch’ isn’t it?

Agreed. Sometimes I get teary-eyed watching. I dream about the farm 🚜 life and growing sunflowers 🌻

I make my focaccia with rosemary, sundried tomatoes and olives! It’s a great combination!!!
That sounds delicious!
Can I come over?
Just had that same combo from Eataly.

This is perhaps the simplest focaccia recipe I have yet to see, gives me hope that I can scrounge up the time needed to make this fluffy goodness.
This is genuinely the best recipe! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made this recipe and how much my family all love it

I made this focaccia today and it was absolutely fantastic, I added olives and cherry tomatoes on top. Wow, I will be making it again really soon.
Have made this twice , overnight in fridge. Turned out perfect. Thank you John
I tried this with an olive oil that I previously cooked and infused with thyme and garlic and the added flavor really went a long way ❤
I minced a tablespoon of rosemary and put it in the dough, and sprinkled some leaves on top too . Yummiest recipe thx John!
