Different judges in a different state apparently. Had she acted like that in Judge Boyd’s courtroom, she would have been stopped after the first sentence. Regardless if she can’t pass a competency eval or not, this is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. I get the empathetic approach. But you can be empathetic while still demanding respect to the court. Judge Simpson would have muted her immediately and just spoke with the attorneys. It’s sad what some of the judges allow for the sake of empathy…
The defendant has to be under threat, duress, and cohersion for that to happen.

Well, the first problem is that they live in the state of Washington.
This judge should never have allowed it to have gone that long.
I can’t believe this judge let her ramble like she did.
She obviously has a mental health problem, and thus it's sometimes better to allow them to air there thoughts, much can be found within the rambling of mental health patients.

That woman is speaking like an 85 year old with severe dementia, but she's only 59. She obviously has some very serious mental health problems. I can't even believe that anyone would speak to a judge in that manner. There is no way that she is right in the head. I feel so bad for the judge. She is extremely professional and patient.

The woman was already in jail and was cursing about not being able to plead guilty.
Not without making way less money and working customer service. We have to put up with this all day and it's expected.

Judge was a pro who knew it would be childish on HER part to take a rant personally when it came from someone elderly and deranged. She did hit the point however when it was unacceptable to disrespect the court.

The Judge and Attorney’s handled her so well and they were so professional. I am so impressed. She obviously is mentally disturbed and didn’t need to be yelled at to provoke further escalation of her behavior, nor would contempt do anything on a case where someone was obviously mentally disturbed but waste financial resources on. She needs help and then, deal with her criminal charges.

This Judge knows of the Defendant. She's stated the Court is well aware of her mental concerns. She recognizes holding the Defendant in contempt would solve nothing here. God bless this Judge. It's a difficult job and she recognizes the difference between crazy and conscious disrespect. That said, we know damn well this Defendant is currently occupying a bed in a mental health hospital.

Washington Revised Codes, Title 10, Chapter 10.77, Section 10.77.050. No incompetent person shall be tried, convicted, or sentenced for the commission of an offense so long as such incapacity continues.
