no problem at all! you and all the other channels posting instructional content on these softwares are the absolute best! Almost all the videos I find are so clear and easy to understand! huge props to you man!
I'm so happy I could help, and hope this tutorial has brought your video production to the next level ... and reduced your stress along the way! Thanks for letting me know.
I was literally having anxiety attacks trying to get my “far from perfect” green screen footage to work using Fusion and the Delta Keyer. This is everything i was looking for. THANK YOU
I saw this method described on a website somewhere. It got close, but your video absolutely crushes this technique. Thank you so much. The big revelation here is that this method uses far less system resources with exceptional results. Thank you again.
Hey, you are a GREAT teacher!!! I love the way you go back and review what you just did. That really helps. So many other DV editors go way toooo fast. Thanks for making this comprehensible.
Thanks so much! That means the world. I get mixed reviews... people hating how I go back... others, like you, appreciating it. I'm looking for that happy medium, and trying to make my tutorials concise but also easy to follow and understand. I'll keep honing my style as I go. I'm used to teaching in person / live before a crowd, so a lot of that comes across in my teaching style here. Cheers!
I remembered this video from 2 years ago and you've saved my life again, I couldn't figure out why my keys sucked so bad and it was because I had HSL and not 3D applied, THANK YOU AGAIN
thankyou so much! I am much more interested to know how to make the camera movement in 12:29 to be like the camera of UE 5? which is just like real time handheld, is it possible to do it inside fusion? thanks!
This series is presented in order to help viewers learn the skills needed. Augmented reality virtual cinematic camera work is coming, but there is a lot to cover before then.
Robbie not sure you'll see this by now but you recorded your Davinci screen bigger and clearer than I've ever seen. I can see every setting and detail in your DR. Beautiful job!
My trick was to bite the bullet and invest in a 4K display. Then, I record the screen capture in full resolution (using GeForce Experience). It allows me to punch in with brilliant quality. Thanks for noticing my little extra effort! It makes me feel better about the cost to know someone appreciated the end result 😆
mind blowing!!!! Exactly what I have been searching for. As a matter of facts, I downloaded RUNWAY ml video editor just for this purpose not knowing RESOLVE does it all!!!
You're a lifesaver! Thanks so much! One thing I had to learn though, sometimes you need to go back in and choose the plus dropper to select more of the screen.
This tutorial has helped me immensely! I practiced this on a green yoga mat before my first green screen shoot and it really gave me the tools I needed. The only time "we'll fix it in post" hasn't given me an anxiety attack
I can't believe it was that simple!! I recorded several green screen footages with obvious large shadow (I was moving less than a meter, and light was just coming from a ceiling fan). The magic mask did a basic job while cutting elements because of this shadow. I did exactly what you said and BOOM! The video look perfect. No one from Hogwarts could do a better job! Thank you so much!!
This tutorial is a total life saver! I can't believe how much better this method is when compared to Davinci Resolve's official keyers. Thank you so much for posting this!!
@@TheShowShow some of the interface design changed since you made this video, and I can't seem to find the de-spill switch. There is a slider now, but it doesn't seem to do anything for my footage... Am I missing something? Thanks!
Very helpful video, but ohmigosh how did you do the tracking shot at the end (12:28) where the camera is moving and both you and that background are tracking?!?!
Thanks so much! I'll be teaching this very thing, and through the coming tutorials you'll learn how to create, augment and use full 3D virtual sets that you can move your camera around while maintaining an actor, on a green screen, within the scene. I hope I got your sub so you can follow along 😉
This is a game changer for me! I could never get perfect greens screen effects. First with delta keyer was always a problem with partially transparent areas, then the 3d keyer which was much better but still not perfect, now this looks perfect! Have to try some more in different scenes but so far wow, what a difference! Thank you !
I like the way you did a quick repeat of some of the more complex steps that could be easily missed. It saves your user from having to run the recording back again. It was easy for you to do and it also saves your user a lot of effort. That’s win-win. Good job thank you
It means a lot to me that not only did you notice the effort, but also expressed your appreciation of it. It also reaffirms my methodology as I endeavor to create an educational channel that is helpful to all sorts of users. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I completely disagree. Yes, it helps those who didn't understand. But if you didn't understand, watch the explanation again. However, it greatly bothers those who watch attentively and understand what's going on.
I love you. I started the tutorial like I know all this. I was doing it all wrong. It was working... sometimes... But you just saved the project that my God. This is the only video I found with this information in it I was looking so hard. thank you so much. And the tutorials two years old. I was in discussions with some what I would consider pros. And this did it.
I really do hope many of my tutorials will remain valid for many years to come. While buttons move around and sometimes features change, I will be trying to keep my subscribers up to date. Thanks for the feedback. I'm so glad my tutorial was so helpful for you!
Thaaaaaaannnnkkkkk you . I've just transitioned from iMovie as I just found out about it's limitations in layers when it comes to green screen etc. However my green screen worked perfectly in iMovie, it was just hard to add more layers. So I uploaded my video to DaVinci and freaked out, shadows and light was showing up everywhere and I had 3 hours of video shot like that. You are a life saver, thank you 🙏
Although the qualifier works with isolating certain colors, consider using the delta keyer in the Fusion page which is a dedicated keyer for complex keys or the 3D keyer on the edit page for faster easier keying. Would give a much better results.
Glad I googled this before even filming content! Now I know both how to film in order to maximize the resolution of my subject AND how to get a near perfect green screen. thanks!
I cannot begin to thank you enough for this video. I was trying to find how to convert a vertical shot into horizontal with DaVinci Resolve and you did just that. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for showing that 3D keyer is now matured and fast tool. I will probably use it instead of delta keyer. It also seems to be much faster while rendering.
Great details and covering all the potential snags. Thank you.

Copying Chrissie's comment: OMG I needed this so much a couple of days ago! I almost considered trying to paint my PC screen with green acrylic at one point. This worked OK, except green filtering through loose hair. Couldn't solve that one!
I have never used a green screen before, but got given one recently so wanted to know how to use it with Davinci. really good video that I will probably watch many times.
Awesome! Have fun. Be sure to sub: I have many tutorials on the way, including how to use your new green screen to place yourself in an interactive virtual environment! 💪
Hi there! I was wondering if there is a way to do multiple chroma keys? My flooring is a slightly different green than my screen and it seems that even if I drag my blue line over both colors, it doesn't quite want to catch it all. I'm so close to figuring it out... until I realized you can't have two alpha outputs. Help would be so much appreciated!
This was very helpful, thank you! I will use this to try my next shot, since I want to emulate a white room. I plan to shoot in front of the white wall and put the green screen on the floor in order to get the 3D appearance. I would then blow a white wall a bit and key out the green to white. Do you think this would work, or I need a larger green screen that would cover wall + floor?
The success of this approach will depend on your skin tone. The reason we use green is because it's so far away from any human skin tone, so it works flawlessly pretty much every time (unless your subject is feeling really sick and their skin is green - haha!) My skin, for example, would not key well against a white wall using this technique. If you have darker skin and wear clothing that is far away from white in the spectrum, it could work. You'll have trouble with teeth and eyes, regardless, which can be overcome using the technique I use to leave my green Category5 TV logo on my shirt when shooting on green screen. Instead, you may want to shoot on a white wall and then blow it out in post (increase the luminance, remove all shadows). But keying on green can work pretty well for white room as well, as shown in our Matrix spoof (which was shot using the technique I describe): ua-cam.com/video/yx9TxQ2tPf0/v-deo.html
Yes. You can save the corrector node as a shared node and apply it to as many shots as you like. As long as the color profile / lighting are the same, this is common practice.
Great tut with excellent advice. I would never have thought of using the 3D qualifier for this. One criticism though: drop the music. It's too loud, too distracting & not needed.

Thank you so much for the info. Davinci can be so overwhelming as there are so many panels. What bugs me as I always end up working in a small window. I press P to make it big, but you can not edit there. So I end up working in a 3 inch window. : (
This was one of the biggest selling points for me when considering buying DaVinci Resolve Studio: Fullscreen clean output to a TV. So I can edit on one screen, with my 4K 55-inch TV showing me my preview. Never going back 😍
Absolutely Amazing!!!! I make super cheesy home videos with my kids using a green screen, but they are young and the screen always ends up crumpled. This is a game changer and lets me make lasting memories much easier! Thank you for sharing this wonderful workflow.
Just set up my screen for the first time today and these tips helped me to get the result I needed out the box. Lighting is crucial on this, but once that is decent, you’re off to the races. Thanks so much for putting this together. Excellent vid. 👊🏿
Is there a key I need to press to be able to make multiple lines? You show that you can let go and draw other lines but when I do that it starts the line over.
Would be awesome to see this video updated for Da Vinci 18, A lot of the buttons are moved around and it's easy to get lost, especially for those (like myself) that are not familiar with the Color page.
Thanks! What if there are two or three people in the shot, around the complete frame, not just a narrow center area. Will this technique, in general, work for that? Thanks! …Rowby.
Yep, will work for multiple subjects since it's using the green color to key, not tracking the actors. Note that it may help to scrub the timeline in the color screen, and when you encounter anomalies (from changes in lighting, shadows, etc) you can then key that out by pressing the icon that looks like a qualifier with a + symbol next to it, and then drawing onto the shadow. Continue to scrub the timeline until you're happy with the results. CTRL-Z to undo if you accidentally click a spot that screws up your key.
Yeah, my green screen is brutal sometimes. We have a sky light in our studio, which can be really nice on bright days. But when a cloud rolls overhead, suddenly the lighting changes! My method was birthed from my need to make it work even though it's "not perfect" - Happy I could help you too!
Hello ! I wished it had worked for me but I could not find the same settings in my version of Da Vinci :/ no 3D option, no selection with the qualifier.. Unless some info were missing..
I am using DaVinci Resolve Studio, which required a purchase (personally, I bought a Speed Editor, which came with DR Studio). If any of the tools or features I demonstrate are game-changers for you but unavailable in the free version, my suggestion is to tally those up as "pros" when considering buying the Studio edition. I've regretted many purchases in my time, but DaVinci Resolve Studio is something I have never once regretted dropping some cash on.
Hey, Robbie! Thanks for this fab step which I got working yesterday. However, when I fired up my DR 18.6 a moment ago, the Toolbox, Dissolve, Generator all disappeared from the Edit screen. Why, and how do I restore?
THANK YOU! YOU SAVED MY ENTIRE VIDEO AFTER TRYING TO USE THE 3D KEYER. ABSOLUTE LIFESAVER.

Continue to scrub the timeline until you're happy with the results. CTRL-Z to undo if you accidentally click a spot that screws up your key.
Crystal clear teaching. Thanks so much GBU❤
Absolutely stuning
This was an awesome video thanks so much!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Great work, easy to follow. I am using this to put a Japanese zen monk in the metaverse. No, I'm not kidding :)
BIg ups man. Appreciate it
you're the best sir!
Awesome! I was losing my mind to have perfect angles and lighting....Dude, thank you so much! 💥
Yeah, my green screen is brutal sometimes. We have a sky light in our studio, which can be really nice on bright days. But when a cloud rolls overhead, suddenly the lighting changes! My method was birthed from my need to make it work even though it's "not perfect" - Happy I could help you too!
@@TheShowShow It was very helpful and I saved so much time on my last vid....Thanks!
This video is a life saver!!
Hello ! I wished it had worked for me but I could not find the same settings in my version of Da Vinci :/ no 3D option, no selection with the qualifier.. Unless some info were missing..
Just did it in resolve. I am stunned by this.
thank you greatly! From me and my cats :D
Are you using the full paid for version as I do not have the ‘drop down menu’ to allow selection of 3D?
Perfect, Thanks!
Glad it helped!
