After years of taking statins and benazepril, my hypertension kept getting worse. When my BP hit 204/ 100, and I felt like crap, I decided I’d rather die than continue like that. I threw all the drugs away and waited for the end. With in a month, my BP was down to 130/60 with a pulse of 60. My last blood test, my cholesterol was 155 with the balance in the normal range. I feel thirty years younger.

@@nebovas9432 25 years for the anti hypertensive, 4 years for the statin. One thing I did that also had a positive effect was to quit caffeine. I work out for an hour a day and walk 2 to 5 miles a day. I own forty acres of forest and spend a lot of time thinning and pruning up my trees. I grow a huge garden and pretty much live out of that in the summer months. I plan on digging an under ground root cellar this summer so I can better store my produce. I went through some severe hard times awhile back and I now meditate to try to maintain a positive mind set..😁

The only meat I eat is Chicken. Have never felt so better at the age of 75. Red meat is dangerous, and also, the killing of such gentle Innoscent animals goes against my mind. I believe I am an animal lover, and, I try my best not to eat anything that has a face. But, I do eat fish and Chicken, I feel bad about that, because, they are helpless as much as any other being that is killed to be put on our plates. I was a true Vegetarian, but could not afford to be a Vegan, even though when I have seen the thin grey people many seem to become, but, they are true animal lover,s. After three years of not eating any animal, I was quite weak, but did not realize I was, until I started feeling faint, and, often ending up in hospital. Then ,after feeling very hungry, one day, I had a vegetable Chinese takeaway, and I started eating it quite quickly, and, somehow small prices of chicken had been accidentally put in, I felt a surge of energy, after eating a peice, it also was delicious, and, showed me, that i needed to eat the white meat, fish also, made me feel stronger. I suppose each of our bodies require different food to make us feel happier and stronger, but, as a Nurse I have seen many people who eat huge amounts of red meat, and, when taking their Obs, they are generally off the scale with heart attacks, Cancer etc etc. So along with my fear of becoming a heart attack victim, and my great love of Cows, Sheep etc etc, I want to keep my feelings of love for them, and know I have not caused an animal to die because I have been told since a little girl to eat them, especially for Sunday Roast, which I still enjoy, just without the flesh of a precious animal, entering my system, I never liked the taste of Lamb, beef, and Pork gave me bad pains everytime I had to eat it.
I do feel bad about Chickens too as my Daughter's brought home some baby chicks, that were destined to be fed to Snakes, they grew up, all Cockrels ,to be clever and affectionate birds ,each with their own funny Characters and very tame, they all lived a longtime , and died ,naturally, of old age. I never ate chicken after that, except for when I started to feel so much stronger and had less migraines etc etc. Fish , yes, I do eat them, because I knew the benefits of eating them, as, I was a fairly weak child, with constant illnesses etc. So, each of us, have our own personal thoughts about eating meat, and, I never feel superior or special by not eating red meat, each to their own.

If a doctor doesn't ask what type of diet you are on, they don't care about your health. It's up to us to do our own research, doctors are in a club with politicians, seeing who can own the biggest house nicest car biggest boat of all their club members, I'm taking my chances with common sense. Like quitting smoking 14 years ago, stopping the beer drinking the 15th of last month , eating mostly red meat, cheese butter bacon and eggs. lost 22 lbs last wellness visit, bp generally normal to slightly low. I was literally nearly killed by Candesartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker. I now am taking Amlodipin with minimal side effects (slight edema) - but my hypertension is well under control. As for Candesartan, the first day I took it I got insomnia. The entire six weeks I took Candesartan i could only sleep one hour (!) each day, only after tossing and turning for six or seven hours, out of utter exhaustion! But what nearly killed me were severe choking fits which came ever more often after the third week of Candesartan. Neither two general practitioners nor a lung specialist nor a neurologist could diagnose the horrific fits of asphyxiation or sudden insomnia. None of the asthma/cortison sprays prescribed helped at all!. Not even the doctors at an emergency ward where I ended up after an especially severe fit where I had to call an ambulance suspected it was a side effect of Candesartan!! The fits were occurring ever more often (every couple of hours) and were becoming progressively severe. The fits stopped when I decided to stop taking Candesartan. The insomnia was another matter. It took six months for me to progressively start sleeping longer than an hour. At best I could go back to sleep for another hour four, five times in succession to get at least a total of 5 hours. Even today, five years later, the only reason I am sleeping five-six hours with one or two interruptions is because I am taking 200 mg of Pregaballin per day on account of neuropathic pains - a coincidence - never meant as a cure for my insomnia. What was scary was the fact that none of the five doctors I consulted could diagnose the choking fits or the insomnia - none of them, not even the GP who prescribed the Candesartan linked Candesartan to my debilitating and life-endfangering symptoms! How I finally decided to stop taking Candesartan? I googled it together with insomnia and got a load of hits pif people getting insomnia from Candesartan...

There is no “best” medication for b.p. A combination (drugs and effective dosage) is developed that works for YOU, based on your health history, and sensitivity to each drug. If you have a reaction to a newly prescribed drug, you can look up drug reactions simply by asking your phone. If the reaction matches more than a couple of days( unless severe like chest pain), then notify your doctor. I also recommend buying a drug guide book(used) or talk to a nurse you know

Whether you decide to eat animal protein or to be vegetarian, try to find out how and where your food was treated before it came to you.
And love yourself enough to stop consuming toxic loaded things like cigarettes, alcohol and the drugs prescribed to you to treat problems caused by the “officially recommended diet”.

Can give you gout! If it does its because your kidneys now bypass purines. Was told by a pharmacist that lisinopril was better for my heart and kidneys….. so how is it better or how is hctz not? Didnt need gout! How compromised are my kidneys that they no longer filter purines?

I got gout from hydrochlorothiazide! Was given lisinopril and i asked the pharmacist what was the upside and the downside on lisinopril was told it could cause a dry hack. If it does see dr about something else. Upside its better for kidneys and heart!!!!! So why ever rx hctz if lisinopril better for kidneys and heart??? My dr told me my kidney panel came back and their fine i shook my head and he said the results are fine and i said my kidneys didnt use to bypass purines giving me gout! He was dumb struck…..

The docs gave this to me. I couldn't walk without help and my blood pressure doubled. Stopped it after a month and one doc screamed at me. It didn't matter to her if I couldn't walk without hubby's help or that my bp doubled. Dropped the drug and the doc.

Why don’t you list the bad meds before rambling on and on. I’ve been on the same meds for 50 years, I don’t want to listen to you lambasting them, or go through a lot that I don’t need to be concerned with. These so called helpful methods shove my BP. Right up as I wait as if the sword of Damocles is hanging over my head ready to fall.😢

What ALL the stupid commentators below forget is that "NO ONE CAP FITS ALL"!
