Was on amlodipine for ages without a problem. Only side effect, a bit of an occasional cough. Doctor switched me off in favor of my beta blocker and lisinopril 5mg and my usual medicine for Grave's and life was grand. Doctor announced increasing lisinopril to 40 mg and that she'd not reintroduce amlodipine, but promptly prescribed 5 mg. Now getting hypotensive episodes, I'll be discussing that in detail this coming Friday. A reordering of morning vs night dosing helped prevent some overlap, but the syncope and vertigo from the hypotensive episodes, while decreased, remain in lesser severity. Yeah, if followup wasn't so close, I'd be informing doctor of test d/c of the calcium channel blocker and if effective, have some sharp words about massive increase in ACE inhibitor *and* simultaneous dosing of a calcium channel blocker. Only sharp words of a mild variety, as doctor is still a resident and that's why residents are there, to learn from mistakes. I have recently been prescribed Amlodopine following referral to A&E with a blood pressure of 238/ 148. They also added Ramopril after 2 weeks. I was told this was due to protien in my urine. I found this video helpful
@@DrODonovan I am fine thankyou BP is down and I have adjusted my diet. I went for my flu jab and they took my BP as I hadn't had it done for a while. Lucky they did as I had no symptoms at all. Anything could have happened
I had a BP of 220 / 150, thought it was sinus headache, was put on amlodopine, , I've used it for about 20 years, with no side effects or problems. Was unable to get medication for about 2 months. No transport. No severe headaches( just usual sinus), got to clinic but my BP was 175/120. The doctor who treated me first said I had a severe type of hypertension as it was do high and I didn't feel suck, called it malignant hypertension. It is now back under control.
Most common side effect for amlodipine is a cough. Doctor took me off of it a few years back during a thyroid crisis, as I was then given a calcium channel blocker and a beta blocker that works synergistically with the thyroid blocker. Recent excursions in BP saw doctor prescribe it again, along with a massive increase in the calcium channel blocker and a bit of a medical misadventure, as doctor didn't notice a urologist also prescribing Flomax for no good reason, which also lowers BP and well, nearly literally passed out in the street. Tunnel vision, gray out, the whole nine yards, barely kept my feet by tripoding with my cane, fighting to just stay erect, as I didn't want to break the concrete sidewalk with my head. Or roll and turn into the road's newest speedbump... Doctor did an "oh poop!" (OK, another word to judge from her facial expression when I mentioned Flomax, which has been discontinued and I'll be having some words with the urologist at my next appointment about that, given contraindications and no medical need for the crap in my case). Still don't have a handle on the BP, that's all over the map, hypertensive one day, hypotensive for hours another, but my electrolytes and fluid balance are also wandering due to chronic diarrhea that I'll be seeing a GI doc for this coming week. Oh well, it's fairly simple organic chemistry at this point, not (shudder) endocrinology. Got a follow up with endo soon as well. Did well with the cardiologist though, we'll see after this week's imaging how the vascular surgeon evaluates my AAA...
I'm taking, since 2001...for the past 23 years, no side effects, no fever, no flu,no tention.. Blood pressure, remained. Excellent between 128/73..but, as age catch up, as I'm at 70 years now.. If hospitalised, it rests at 145/78...but, at times with stress and Not sleeping well, it reaches 155/80..but, it came to normal, the Brand varies with Malaysian Pharmeautical manufacturers, nut, content Amlopphine, remains the same and dosage of 5 or 10 mg, in thre morning.. @@truthbaetold Thank you, for asking. My doctor stopped the Amlodipine and raised the dosage of Losartan to 100mg/daily. I must check back in next week to follow up. Thanks for the video. Got here from another video about Amlodipine side effects, many of which I appear to have (swelling of ankles, weird rash on legs, tiredness etc). Think it's time for another chat with the gp..
had to get off lisinipril due to every side effect under the sun, switched to amlodipine about a year ago and all seemed ok at first, then i randomly would have my big toes hurt bad, then right above my ankle would hurt to where it felt like my legs were gonna break as I limped, then it went to my knees, and elbows, couldn't even straighten out my arms. Do you have enough sodium intake? Cause your kidneys cant get rid of ex potassium if you don’t have enough sodium. Lots is people cut the salt out of diet, but your body needs some salt. Also, other blood pressure meds can also cause the kidneys to not eliminate the extra potassium.
I wish I could take Amlodipine for my angina, but I had severe fatigue and increased chest pains when taking it. I told my cardiologist and he told me to stop.

I have just discovered I have high blood pressure and I also have a very fast heart rate which I take Chanel blockers and a beta blocker. It’s an enzyme inhibitor meaning that your enzymes don’t work as well.. Grapefruit juice can block the action of intestinal CYP3A4 enzyme, so instead of being metabolized, more of the drug enters the blood and stays in the body longer. The result: too much drug in your body

The pitting edema, itching, nausea, diarrhea and redness of my swollen feet are more concerning than the spelling. Thank you Doc for this important information.

What took her so long? it's not that I didn't complain about the swelling at least every annual fitness check. The new medicine that I take seems to manage my hypertension just as well.

Thank you! Very informative Dr. Question , can I take Viagra while on amlodipine.
Thanks for your advice doctor ,I had been taking Amlodipine 5 mg for the last 2 yrs ,I'm also on pressure pill and heart pill.my point is ,I noticed recently when ever i take the Amlodipine my stomach really hurts, but at the same time it keeps my pressure down.i take half instead ,but the stomach still hurts.i spoke to my doctor about it and he says if i stop the amlodipine the pressure.wil continue to get high .
There are other meds, I too had stomach pain with this med and ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis. I told my doctor to change it out to something else
There are a lot more blood pressure meds, he could try on you.
They never want to change our meds.😢
I have B/135/77
I take Alpha lipocio Acid does that blood pressure medication is affected
I also experience night sweating when taking amlodipine 5mg with telmisartin. Waiting to see endocrinologist bc nephrologist says sweating is not a side effect of amlodipine
My ankles were very swollen for about a month before I realized it was the amlodipineDo not take it again
Should I be worried taking this at the age or 28? Can cutting the 5 pill to 2.5 can I take those too to start
And is it ok to train intense?
I am taking amliodipine 10 mg daily and I have a problem of tinnitus, headache and stomach pain.I told my doctor but she gave me nothing for that.
Demand a med change, amlodipine gave me pancreatitis
I have to discontinue mine because it give me terrible terrible headache
I was given 10ml over a year ago but told Dr it made. Y ancles swell, so they gave me stockings, came in handy for flight but I hust changed my prescription to 5m and no swelling for a year now.
I have just discovered I have high blood pressure and I also have a very fast heart rate which I take Chanel blockers and a beta blocker.
The gp won’t give me anything for my high blood pressure and says I need to see a health specialist to change my diet and exercise. I’m disabled so can’t exercise and I only eat one extremely small meal a day. A baby eats more than me.
I’m concerned as my average bp is 150/105-178/110
My HR 109 resting to 165/170 when walking short distance to bathroom.
I’m banging my head against a brick wall.😢
Seek information about whole foods (unprocessed) that will help to stabilize your blood pressure. Mostly vegetables and fruits. Reduce salt and sugar intake. There are exercises you can do while sitting especially those that require lifting your arms above your head.
@@julletcoley756 thank you for the suggestions I will try what you suggested. I’ve never really used salt it’s not for me but I do like some sweet things especially fruit chews and lemon cheesecake!
I have now started some medication and I’m seeing a health coach at my GP surgery.🤍

I hope you got it under control🙏🏼
Thanks Dr. Is it good taking Novas with simstovatin
Please, are Amlodipine and Lisinopril taken together? Are they responsible for loss of libido? Thanks.
Just started it 3 days ago I’m waking at night sweating is this normal will it ho
How's u now
I’m off it all
What are the natural remedies?
Develop your own personel rehab exercise routine dailey start gently maybe 5 or 10 easy windmills, add what you can and feel your body each day. 😊do it exercise😊
I take amlodipine, it causes my ankel and legs to swell sometimes.
Yup normal
My doctor took me off of it because of ankle and leg swelling. It was terrible, my legs constantly hurt. Now been off of it and my legs are back to normal.
Any nasal swelling or constant nasal congestion?
I am taking telismisrtan with mg of Amlodipine for last 10 years There is no any problem with me.
There is also 2.5 mg available
Grapefruit it’s a natural blood pressure lower ? Why it’s forbidden to take grapefruit with amlodipine ? What’s the grapefruit side effect ?
It’s an enzyme inhibitor meaning that your enzymes don’t work as well.. Grapefruit juice can block the action of intestinal CYP3A4 enzyme, so instead of being metabolized, more of the drug enters the blood and stays in the body longer. The result: too much drug in your body
How do you take Garlic when. Ex forget 320/10 mg
Thanks doctor and best regards
You’re welcome
Is it safe to take this in early pregnancy?
I am on AMLODIPINE for about five years. I am now experiencing pain behind the knee, also peripheral neuropathy (feet ). Can it be Amlodpine? Also my sytololic pressure ranges between 140 and 150. I am not happy. Please advise.
Wow, do you think you have calcium build up behind the knee because of amolodophone. I want to get off them too
It works but it is now giving g me neuropathy.
Yes same issies with me too
Thank you sharing
got ed after taking amlo..! side effect??
I was told by my doctor to stop the Almlodopine and couldn’t do so straight away but I I feel 5hat might be dangerous should I half the dose for a period to get my body accustomed , I am still taking
candersantan8mg
There are so many foods that relax arteries with no side effects! Just look up how to lower blood pressure naturally
I wonder why they always say "tell your doctor if you are taking such and such a tablet" Surely your doctor knows more than anyone else what you are taking" ? Its on their screen.
Doctors ignore SO much!! You have to be your own patient advocate.
exactly!!
Tanks for the video.isExlopine same as Amlodipine?
i was on amolodopine developed irregular heart beat i was refferd to heart doctor but befor i went i read the side effects of my medication and amolodipine swollen ankles gums irregular heart beat what else who knows the doctor wrote to mine to change them the ankles down gums down heart back to normal i spoke to a doctor while i was in hospital lately he said it was a cheap medication

I am expirencing a dull pain in my calf, Is this whats called neuropthy, a circulation issue or a side effect amlodipine possibly?
Yes , that happened to me.
Same happened to me. It was a burning/numb sensation on my right thigh.
@@israelbrown566 yes it comes in many forms. My feet started first with the numbness. After a while it was like I didn’t have any cushioning on my feet. Now I can feel my leg getting and my doctor still won’t change to another medication.
Can I take 20mg of Amolodipine if my pressure doesn't come down?
Thanks an advice
Took this.... Still had a stroke/high blood pressure 😞
IT ALSO COMES IN A 2.5 MG!!!!
Thanks
@@DrODonovan No Problem, & FYI: I don't take this dangerous drug!
Interesting, but those incredibly annoying swishing and swooping noises make me stop paying attention to what you say. If you love those noises so much, why not have police sirens and babies crying also?
Scary how talks about a bp medicina for 6 year olds as if it the most natural thing shouldn't we be worried
If they have heart problems then they need to keep BP under control. My daughter was born with heart condition.
I actually had a heart attack and 4 stents put in and my Dr. subscribe Amlodipine!! Your saying don't take it??
Jeez after all this time and l have been putting it in my mouth.
Stops you exercising at high level. This should be made clear.
Couldn't get my HR over 120.
What kind of a doctor spells amlodipine that way?
What difference does the spelling make? The information is what's important.
@@lettiegrant9447 As my Comp 2 professor in college would say, sloppy spelling, sloppy grammar means sloppy logic. A UA-cam poster, particularly a doctor, should spellcheck their work before posting.
@MrBubbagrump Amlodipine is spelled correctly My physicians PCP and Cardiologist, as well as the pharmacist spells it that way. The brand name is Norvasc. As a retired nurse, it is spelled correctly.
I am more worried and interested in the side effect, adverse reactions, black box warning than the spelling. The pitting edema, itching, nausea, diarrhea and redness of my swollen feet are more concerning than the spelling.
Thank you Doc for this important information.
@@lucydobson25 Yes, the spelling was eventually corrected. I can only hope that my comment initiated the change. And, yes, I know all about the side effects of amlodipine. I had horribly swollen ankles, that were very painful up until a year ago when my doctor finally changed my medication. What took her so long? it's not that I didn't complain about the swelling at least every annual fitness check. The new medicine that I take seems to manage my hypertension just as well.
@@lucydobson25 Yes. I see that sometime after I posted this, the spelling error has been corrected.
I s it good to be taken Aldocure Vasoprie and Amlodipine together for curing high blood pressure
Is Exlopine same as Amlodipine?
The sound effects were extremely distracting. I kept wandering around my house trying to figure out what was wrong making that big thumping whooshing sound.
wow thats just way too much talking to get to the information. I gave up
Any suggestions on how I can improve would be appreciated. Should I speak slower , less information or both?
I felt like every time I was asked to stay until the end and more info was given that information was being withheld until the end in order to get my attention to purchase something. I've been through this before. As I didn't stay, I really don't know for sure. was interested in the information, but didn't want to stay with the videos, etc. for so long to find out what it was about. I don't usually comment and don't like to be negative but others have expressed the same issues with these ads that say they have natural help for different types of health problems.@@DrODonovan . I do appreciate your replying. Thank you.
You forgot EDEMA as a side effect.
best way to take it,,,, is don't, terrible side effects, finally off the crap now, sort ya diet and walk every day,all good now 😂
Same here, walking eating healthy food lowers naturaly. My feet swole up so much i had burst blisters between my toes very sore.
@@stevejohnson732by any chance did you get any nasal swelling or nasal congestion taking this medication?
So instead of doing what a doctor told you you're practicing medicine on your own? How small is that? Not saying they (doctors)know everything but they know more than me!
Very informative video. Thank you.
@@charleshamilton585After the covid debacle I have no trust in any doctor. Amlodipine is a nasty drug. You go right ahead and do what your doctor says. I have called out my doctors and let them know how I feel about their treatment. I’m doing much better after dropping most of my meds.
Does amlodipine affect erection?
The first thing it to check the spelling on the thumbnail 😂🤣
Apologies about this. I have changed it.
I don't like to watch your UA-cam because a lot of interrupting advertising of unrelated items. My phone is realme and my mobile telco is umobile. Are they the culprits. Idiotic
Wost medication ever just work out nd eat different
