The Ford Puma ST is a performance version of the regular Puma, which itself is already both practical and great to drive. The ST model has more power, some upgraded parts for improved handling and a sportier appearance inside and out. Can it tempt buyers away from more powerful rivals like the VW T-Roc R and Audi SQ2, as well as traditional hot hatchbacks? Nicola Hume takes the Puma ST to the track to find out.

Had mine for 2 months. It’s fantastic, and this coming from someone more used to things with German badges that are significantly more expensive. This is the most fun I’ve had in a car in years. Just buy it.
Is it unbearable on bad roads?
@@valteroliveira1523 no it’s fine
What's your mpg like?
@@DarthxLunaive heard the mpg isnt all that bad, around 40-50 mpg
Such a great point about the climate panel. These touchy slidy trends drive me mad
I was disappointed about the car industry. Then i found Kermit and he brought back fun. It's like a swiss army knife and can be fun, can load a lot of stuff in its trunk and it can be economic. I love the gearbox and the knobs.
Love the comment about the buttons, screens for heating and heated seats is ridiculous! Really like Nicola's review style! Keep up the good work
Brilliant review with some good humour. Nicely done 😀
Great review Nicola. Seriously tempted by this one!
What a fabulous review. Thank you. Fun, entertaining and informative. Well done.
Thank you so much!
Good review 😊
I bought the 2021 ST LINE V in Frozen White. (The Kermit Green wasn’t available in Australia) . Although the price was high at AU$36K I’m extremely satisfied with it. For a 3 cylinder, turbocharged engine with dual clutch, it rips through the gears. The build quality is superb, handling: great for the price, 10spkr B&O sound system: powerful and tight (expanded, surround mode recommended). Loaded with clever features. I was most impressed when a phone call came in on a hot day and the air conditioning blower (fan) reduced its output so I could hear better, very thoughtful. Windscreen instrument package assists with rain detection, speed limit sign sensing, auto lights. The power tailgate can be opened 4 different ways including from the passkey. Some minor shortcomings include; Rear indicators could be a bit bigger, and the reversing lights are woefully underpowered but that's ok if it's not raining as the reversing camera has got you covered. I may to need squirt some expandable foam behind the wheel arch covers to prevent bass-heavy Doof Doof causing a small amount of rattle. For those who like a snappy response I recommend Sport Mode for the bitumen.
You make all the other reviewers look boring ,great fun keep it up
Great review 👍👍👍
"what more could you want in the boot?" Well, a spare wheel would be nice - don't like the modern trend of removing them. I've had a couple of punctures recently and without a spare would've been stranded at the roadside waiting hours for recovery. With a spare, I was on my way within 15 mins...
Thought that myself!
You can spec the puma with a space saver spare wheel.!!but kind of defeats the object off the mega box as you will then not have your full 80 litres..
Puma comes with a spare wheel but its an option and costs 110€ .
me to and also i look on a spare wheel as not only for a puncture but safety for getting hit from behind.
@@teatimetel174 make no difference with safety
This is one of the best car reviews I have ever watched and it answered all the questions I had about the car, without any bias. Thank you ☺
You're easily pleased.
@@bustestlucloc4630 your mom is too luckily
@@bogotvorprvovencani And you're American. I'm sorry.
@@bustestlucloc4630 how did bro come up with that
Just asked Carwow to get me a quote on exactly this spec this morning. That’s spooky!
Great review. You’re good at this. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lovely review
Thanks!
I drove a Puma in Portugal in 1998. What a blast!
Puma ST looks amazing! the normal one looks kinda funny even the st line. Nice presentation too!
Thanks!
Great review 👍 that puma st in green is absolutely gorgeous, enough room for camping gear an mountain bike with wheels off in boot with seats down. Plenty room for rear seat passengers too and when u want fun on twisty roads it has that too, plus it looks amazing, as for fuel economy use eco mode in busy town traffic or long motorway jaunts an use sport mode on a and b roads for fun, think people buying fords st models won't be caring about mpg much anyway lol 💚👌👍
Orderd mine today 😍😍 just wait 4 months. And of course in mean green 💪💪
...you've convinced me. Thank you
The Puma must’ve attacked her knees...
Pesky pumas...
A puma bad fashion victim critic 😀.
Best car reviewer together with Mat Watson. Would watch their reviews forever
Just got mine 4 days ago, unbelievable car.
Keep up the good work missy ;) you light up my screen :p
Matt and her should collab!
Matt who?
@@carbuyer lol good one
@@carbuyer you literally don't know matt ..!! Matt is the host of the carwow channel..like her..!!!💁💁😂😂
Yeah if would be great to see them together..!!!😂👍👀
@@saadkhan9797 just for the record. Mat watson worked for carbuyer before…. So they know him better than you do. Also Mat has become increasingly annoying over the years, i rather not see him anymore
Looking forward to your next Shakespeare quote 🤣🤣
She could review a bog brush and it would be fab.
Very helpful will definetely consider getting the ford puma for my next car quite ideal for me and my family. Most appreciated :)
I really think Ford needs to bring this to the NA market. Would give it's class a good sporty competitor
I used to like Matt Watson reviews at carbuyer, fun yet informative. Nicola does an even better job :) loved the Shakespear part and agree with others over the heating controls. Bit shocked by mpg at pace and not keen on keyless entry, but outweighed by the positives
Are the parts expensive , I’m worried about the mpg ….other that I love it , seen one in the green and it looked a stunning green …slightly darker and laquerd
Can you do a best cars for ulez. Thanks
Buttons and dials...
AV IT!!!
🤘🤙👏
Can you review the Toyota CHR GR please
Nicola is a great presenter! love her style
Can you do review of the Honda jazz
We filmed the Jazz recently. Video coming soon!
Carbuyer commenters are an odd bunch
Living in the north of Norway and having a quite steep hill up to my house makes my dealbraker for this, and the regular Puma, the lack of four wheel drive. Should be an option on every SUV and crossover in my opinion...
I have doubt about that everybody who lives in north norway drives 4wd
@@Tom-uk2ow No, but far from everybody lives at the top of a hill either. I do...
On small crossovers like this, 4WD simply isn't popular enough to make business sense. A set of winter tyres is probably more effective!
@@carbuyer Winter tyres are required where I live. Not enough for the worst days during winter so cars like these aren't for me. Their loss - i'll buy an older, slightly bigger crossover from a different brand...
@@SuperAndrewrhodes No.
Love her
she is one of the best car journalists in today's business, with to the point information, and exceptional presentation.
Ford Dealer: Which puma are you interested in?
Me: An ST in Kermit spec please
Is a 2021 worth having , need advice , cheers
The same sort of power and performance from 1.5 litres that the ‘legendary’ 2.0 Sierra Cosworth struggled to achieve back in the 1980’s. How things have changed!
Yeh, right!
Progress.
I wish this was in NA. I want it soo bad
Can't find fifth gear review with rad u can u , What's the pump set back
Simply love the review presented by you ❤😍
Astagfirullah
@@zomils don’t pick on a person because of his/her name. Just let him be.
What a beauty 😊
Being an ST does it hug the road and is it lower than other pumas
6 speed manual, just body size, plenty boot space…. great job Ford👍
It's a fantastic package, for sure.
Broken every week👍 yep cheers Ford 😐
U are funny 😂 great review
Those headlights look like the 2017 Ford GT
Are those 20” wheels on there
Good review but that is not an SUV, it's a Crossover. When the ground clearance is so low, it's not very hard to make a hot hatch out of it.... Besides this it's a really good review, good humour 👍
She's only saying what Ford describe the car as which is an SUV... Or in this case Ford's first Performance SUV. So you can't criticise the review for that, if you don't like the fact they call it an SUV then take that up with Ford
@@jacksebsmith fair enough. 🤷🏽♂️
Great car! And great Nicola. . . . . . very nice and pretty !!!!!!!!!!!!!
She's a right laugh! Great review.
Unlike the Ford Puma ST, Nicola continues to impress, I award you a 🐞.
P.s. for pretty much the same money you can get a GR Yaris Circuit, I flippin' know which I'd prefer 😉
Find one
@@neilyoung5029 that comment was a year ago 🙄
@@peter.russell okay let me rephrase…..one is a sporty small SUV/Crossover…..one is a road going rally car hatchback which until today I used to sell for a living…..apples and oranges. That comment was just now.
What abt the 4x4 abilities?
Well it’s not a 4x4 so probably terrible, but so would a pogo stick.
She is good
She is really likeable...love the energy👌
This feels like carwow
Puma used to be a sporty 2 door coupe with a bullet proof Yamaha engine.. now it's just a mess trying to find a place between a focus and a kuga.. why not just keep it as the coupe ??
Because no one buys them! SUVs are big business...
It's just a name, it's not trying to pick up where the original Puma left off. Imagine it were called something else and judge it for what it is
Only in green?? Another color??? 😊
Im in Australia/=What my best option ?
Great review but look at the state of your jeans. Smarten up
You are so funny, don't know your background but stand up might be something to fall back on. Great review by the way.
*Picks up pen and starts writing ‘Mother in law’ jokes* 🤣
If you want a sporty SUV? Well, no. Actually, we all wanted a remake of the Puma coupé.
Comments section = bunch of blokes moaning about the presenters clothing! Welcome to UA-cam.
Kermit Spec? Ohhhhhhh dear! 😁
Come on, tell us you don't agree?!
@@carbuyer as if anyone would dare argue with Nicola!
Whay in british , Ford PUma si Piuma and not Puma?
Looks like copycats of carwow. That camera angles, way of presentation. Hmm.
Matt fan here. 🖐️
Nah it's actually better than Carwow...
matt used to work for carbuyer
You want sharp steering imo
Great video and review and I’m not even interested in the car. Wink.😝.
pumas taking away sales from the fiesta and rightly so.everyone wants to sit up higher.
💚💚💚
Great review, but I hate those chapter mark things in the progress bar, please take them out 🤞
Those boot capacities are misleading I think, but the actual boot size with the floor in standard position, probably isn't any (much) bigger than a fiesta, would imagine its smaller dimension wise compared to Kamiq and captur
DJ, DJ 😂 ♥
This, better than the Fiesta ST? Fecking ‘ell…
Wow, what an excellent presenter!! Wtf are the BBC doing not hiring people like her for Top Gear instead of dull celebrities who know nothing about cars? Love the car too.
Damn!! I love her more than the car
It scares me that the most replayed section of this video is about the boot space
Surely this isn’t where the ST name should have fallen :(
So she is saying that if u drive un economically you’ll only get about 20 mpg ? Seriously.
No awd..no suv.. .come on ford!
Great review. Honest & informative, BUT the cheesy Shakespear intro nearly lost my interest.
Keep to your straight talking reviews please.
Look forward to your next one !
Discusses 'turn in'.. while pootling around a corner at 30mph in 4th..
It's easier to present a video at 30mph in 4th. Rest assured Nic thoroughly assessed turn in at a lot more than 30mph!
Please do review of Golf R or A45s or GLS63S
Nobody cares about VW!!!
There are people who actually care about Volkswagen.
@@DaveDVideoMaker what a stupid corrupt company who doesn’t innovate in their designs
@@belltond1527 I do and YOU should. Yes they have gotten slightly worse recently but they still have some very capable cars
@@georgedowns4034 they don’t innovate they just use a similar design look at the polo that came out in 2017 it already looks dated
Glad to see someone who doesn't need makeup to look gorgeous... @Nicola ❤️
The car looks good from most angles apart from the front. If you could describe the “face” of the car, “gormless” seems to fit the bill. It ain’t sexy.
Good job you used the word dial, as if you called them knobs it would have been a totally different type of video! 😜😂
..and, it's made in Romania :)
Seriously? Can we put a sock in the DelBoy presentation style now?
???
👍
The interior is a let down to me ! That screen puts me off 😢
Puma that looks like Frog🐸
Well, now you mention it!
A charming car presented by an even more charming pilot. What I don't like is the Puma's internal combustion engine. A battery electric version of the Puma would be great. 8)
u wot m8
Good review, this is harsh but surely anyone over 30 should think carefully about ripped jeans as a fashion statement...sorry but it’s distracting, just an opinion, and aware it’s not politically correct but it was my first thought not great colour choice for car ..
this looks hatchback not suv
Am I bothered though??!
I am...
