FYI at the start of the video when I mention the Ford Puma first being released, I was talking about this new variant. This video makes no reference to the original Puma as for me, this new one is a completely different car albeit with the same name. I wasn’t a huge fan of the original Puma to be honest with the exception of the Racing Puma! As always guys, thanks for watching 😊
You made a very good point about the B&O sound system. However, I have to confess I only found the front passenger door card rattling when I received my car from new. I took it back to the dealer and asked them to fix it and to their credit, they did and now even at max volume its brilliant. It does help if you have a particular track with a "mid bass" that demostrates the rattle well, that then prevents them going "Oh we tested it and couldn't hear any rattle". In particular, I would even loop that specific part of a track which causes the rattle and then pan between each of the speakers to demonstrate good vs bad. Whilst i accept we have semi conductor part shortages, I don't think that excuses Ford missing sound deadening foam from your vehicle!
Yes they were. They were fantastic handling cars. We're talking about a car from the mid 90's. Also based on a mk4/5 chasis which was one of the best handling fiestas ever made.
Absolutely fantastic video mate! I'm picking my new Puma ST up in 4 days in the Mean Green colour and I CANT wait, especially after watching this! Thanks and subscribed!!!
Just watched this video again love it after a long wait picking my puma st up next weekend can't wait and mine will have the new performance seats and some other interiors upgrades
Great review mate! I was a bit like you especially with the looks but the more I see the Puna on the roads the more I like it! If I had the money I'd think I'd go for the Puma ST over the Fiesta ST.
I have the Mk8 Fiesta ST, and I would 1/2 consider the Puma if it wasn’t so ludicrously expensive compared to the Fiesta. As they’re based on the same platform I can appreciate it being priced as a ‘Fiesta Plus’ but it’s almost competing with the Focus, which is bigger and more powerful.
Your exactly right about the sport mode! I've got the focus st and that's what I found that when it's in sport mode you get the feeling all it wants to do at every opportunity is just blast away and it doesn't like slow movements of the steering/throttle which if you try to drive a bit calmer it becomes very twitchy (suppose that's what normal mode is for🤷♂️)
@@CarFocused oh yeah you do get used to it but for a while I thought it was just me because I drive lorries 80% of my driving life and as you can imagine responsive is not something a lorry does so I thought it was me just being over sensitive so I'm glad you picked up on it👍
I have to admit the Puma looks very nice in black and has grown on me. I was looking at one in the Nottingham Ford dealership while getting my Focus serviced.

Great video. My mate has a Focus ST, but it's an obvious boy racer car. The looks of the Puma have really grown on me, so am thinking of one of these...I want the fun and performance, but not the boy racer label.
The left hand side of the rear diffuser just cries out for 2 more exhaust tips to match the right hand side. I know Ford deny an RS version will be coming but surely that diffuser was made with 4 pipes in mind?? (Fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤔)
The puma is a grower looks wise I also hated it from the start but then I didnt like the original puma until I bought one as a donor car and that grew on me massively (the amazing 1.7 and close ratio box helped), think id still take a fiesta st but then i havnt the family but id deffo take a puma over the focus.
Great review mate - nice 1 👌 Looks a really good car but not sure where Ford are coming from with the eye watering price though. That amount of money moves you into the territory of BMW/Audi/Mercedes etc.
@@CarFocused Yeah I guess it just depends what car you really want at the end of the day. I’m sure with some haggling you’d be able to get a decent discount atm I’d hope
To be fair you looked like you had a lot of fun in that car! The extra practicality is always welcome over a fiesta st. But for 29k its only 3k off a focus st with 80bhp more which is also practical and great fun. What would be your pick?
Hard mate as the Focus is a little more grown up and doesn’t quite have the feel of the Fiesta - albeit it’s not far off. The Puma feels very similar to the Fiesta in terms of thrills but actually has a bigger boot than both the Fiesta and the Focus, which is appealing. The Focus would probably edge it for me personally - in full spec form with PP.
@@CarFocused i was genuinely surprised with the extra space under the floor. 80l of space is very useful and helps with make the puma to be more practical than it has any right to be. I will also say you did a spot on job editing this video. It felt old school while still feeling professional throughout
I would have got the Focus ST but I needed the ground clearance so I ended up with the Puma ST. I’ve not been disappointed with it and in Mean Green it looks a little different from the mainstream offerings.

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t believe for one second they couldn’t have produced an RS in some form, rather than setting the goal they had and just giving up because they couldn’t reach the desired power/emissions target!!
Another very good review in my opinion, not really compromised by the 'make do' approach today. The main issue I have with this vehicle is that it is so expensive (considering how many parts (and therefore economies of scale) are in common with the Fiesta. Like you I really disliked the look of the Puma when it first came out but the looks have grown on me a little. But as it is still a jacked up, heavier small car with a digital dash, IPad stuck to the dash, oversized wheels and with questionable build quality I would give it a pass. I actually have a MK8 Fiesta in my sights in a few years time, which will replace my MK3.5 FoST. Reasons for this include 'proper' handbrake, good economy but with a 'peppy' engine, Analogue dash, reasonably cost effective, not an EV, BHEV, PHEV or SUV, still mildly tuneable with the Mountune goodies. As my wife and I are unlikely to need the extra room this offers I think the Fiesta ST would win for me. It will be interesting to see how long Ford wait before hybridising the Fiesta MK8. I am guessing just a couple more years at most (2023?).
Update: My wife drove a 1.5 Puma ST ('23 plate) very recently to see how it compared to our FiSTs with a view to maybe upgrade to a slightly bigger car soon. Conclusion: Definite 'no'!

Weird that the Puma gets slated for its cabin when it actually has soft touch materials and the t roc has hard scratchy plastic everywhere and is even more expensive

Great review as always mate. A bit odd the rear diffuser is matte black. Not sure what to make of it tbh. Does the higher driving position not dampen the engagement compared to the Fiesta ST? Quite like the look from the front and that blue is a great colour. Wheels look good too - not that I’d go for diamond cut alloys again until they can seal them better.
Thanks Simon - with the seat pumped down you don’t really notice the higher position all that much. As for the diamond cut wheels - time will tell I guess. Thanks for watching as always bud 😊
Such a shame it’s not available with the 8 speed auto slush box that’s available on the 1.5 3 pot focus. Cracking gearbox for everyday driving and with so many gears your always on the power. I’d have considered one of these if the auto was available :(

Nice review. It looks fun to drive but I can’t get past it ugly looks! The only current ford I like the look of is the mustang and I don’t mean that hideous electric thing lol.
I just purchased a Fiesta Mk8-5 ST3 two weeks ago, and l find the ride quality is intolerable at times and overly firm and crashes over uneven road surfaces. I actually regret buying it now £29500 =metallic paint. The winter pack should have gone for one of the Puma ST's I decided on the fiesta mainly because Ford was doing 0% interest over 2 years a stop Gap car... well, it is now 200ps through the front wheels with manual gearbox, which makes pulling away from a standstill embarrassing at times as the little car really struggles for traction god knows what it'll be like in the winter 😮
I absolutely hate this car, but I gotta defend the exhaust tips. I love that ford just throws those honest steel tips on their ST models. I prefer the look on the fiesta/focus ST over the chrome tips you get on a Polo/Golf GTI. Kinda looks aftermarket from factory.
I'm not a fan, I hate the looks & I confess to being confused to the direction Ford are taking. The new Focus is an ugly pig compared to the last model, the Mondeos being discontinued for another ugly crossover & the engine range & drive train options of their current car range makes absolutely no sense.
That’s fair enough Ian. I do agree about the styling - for me the best era was the ‘kinetic design’ era. It’s all been downhill since then. But what I can say is that this little car is certainly fun to drive 😊
@@CarFocusedIMHO Ford need something aesthetically pleasing in their range, they've become obsessed with practicality over style. Cancelling the Mk4 RS won't help either nor will importing lard arses like the Mustang
Another boring bloated crossover car that looks like any other . The Ford range is so limited when you consider the range of models it had in the past. This car sounds like a fart in bottle.
Firstly, crossovers are for confused non car people who want a hatchback but also notice the vast amount of SUV's on our roads (we are now sadly just like them lot across the pond) and feel the need to try and 'fit in' So for Ford to do a 'sporty' crossover, is a little bit cringey tbh. Who are the target customers? People who have zero intentions of driving quick but want to be seen driving a top of the line model that gives the impression of something they are not?? OAP's who want to upgrade from their four year old Nissan Juke?? It's a bit of a mockery and a slap in the face of the Ford Racing Puma tbh. That car was never quick, but it at least was a hot hatch (when it first came out) and wasn't trying to be three cars in one.
I am an owner of old Fiesta ST (time to replace) and a huge fan of the fast hatchbacks but my wife wants a SUV. Taking into account my financial might ( unable to afford two cars), the Puma ST would probably suit the both sides (everyday drive for my wife and weekend fun for me)

Fart in a bottle 😂😂💨
30K FOR A PUMA?!?!
May seem expensive but it’s still cheaper than the competition. Cars are just expensive these days 😢
@@CarFocused yeah I guess, but I thought the fiesta st3 was like 24k. Just confused as to why this is so much more 🤔
@@Hazardous975 yea you’re just paying for a bit more room. It is a bit of a steep price hike!
yes dont like this car they all odd these crossover things like a fiat 500 Plus !
Firstly, crossovers are for confused non car people who want a hatchback but also notice the vast amount of SUV's on our roads (we are now sadly just like them lot across the pond) and feel the need to try and 'fit in'
So for Ford to do a 'sporty' crossover, is a little bit cringey tbh.
