Hey speaking on AI predicting the possible future fallout 4 did something akin to this with the railroad, and the P.A.M Predictive Algorithm Mechine. There was a theory that pam possibly set off the war with China.
It truly has a bleak feeling to it. It's funny cos my New Vegas urban legends vid felt totally different to make - cos it was sunnier in the game, not just grey and horrific everywhere. New Vegas still has its dark content no DOUBT about it, but Fallout 3 really does feel like the world is a complete nightmare. Very little bright spots.
Fallout 3 genuinely gave me a sense of dread ,in some places in the game , like the darker metro tunnels etc . Even on the surface with the bleak grey skies. It honestly felt like dark and gloomy, and just added to that stark survival element. Like even the skies are grey and depressing most the time. And just about everything out here is unfriendly. Made me stay on my toes, stay alert,all that. In that regard it was a genius way to bring the most immersive experience I've ever had in any game. I've seen some idiots, ( trying to look edgy) , make UA-cam videos, trying to point out how " trash" 3 is. When the reality is F3 is one the best Fallouts ever, for so many good reasons. Apparent in comments here, and Iiterally last best Fallout game Bethesda ever made. If Bethesda had kept on making Fallout games with the same quality of F3 . Fans would be singing Todd and the teams praises 24/7, instead of complaining 24/7. F3 was the game that made me love Fallout in the first place. Never had a computer in the 90's or would've played F1 and 2 back then no doubt.
This game used to scare me so bad. I miss the era when all these creepypastas and creepy secrets in games felt like they might exist somewhere undiscovered, instead of being datamined day 1
My best guess for the ratman thing is that someone confused it with that GTA rumor about a ratman in the metro, or it was possibly mentioned in some ancient video game rumors video because I swear to god I remember hearing something about it
Thank you - yeah I'm trying to avoid all the gimmicks and just focus around the actual content... like, if you can enjoy it without even seeing the visuals, I've done my job right! I've said this to subs for a long while now - I will never say like and subscribe, I'll never do musical or bombastic intros, I'll never drag out the ending. So I'm glad you felt the vibe :)
You know its funny because when I first went into the Dunwich building, it didn't occur to me that the objects moving were paranormal activity that were scripted. I think I just assumed it was just buggy Bethesda objects lol!
What's even funnier is that the disappearing head _is_ just buggy Bethesda objects. Unlike other objects in the building designed to get flung around, that head is actually an entire body clipped through the scenery with physics disabled, but when you reload the cell the physics get re-enabled and the body gets shunted through the floor into the void.
The Fallout Numbers Station pasta changed my life forever. As a kid of 13 years old, trying to find a creepypasta was real or not, started listening to Galaxy News Radio on my way into GNR thru the ruins of downtown DC. To try and get a feel for what things will be like once I kill Three Dog. I wish so much that I could remember what I first felt when I started listening to the music. Billie Holliday, The Ink Spots, Andrews Sisters & Danny Kaye, the various transcription bands, Roy Brown, etc. Clearly I didn't hate it. That mixed with the fact that I could jam out to Roy Brown, Billy Munn, etc while blasting raiders & super mutants, or melancholically ponder life and prewar days while listening to Billie Holliday or The Ink Spots, etc made me quickly fall in love with music of the time and those genres. 9 years later, I still have a strong appreciation for Fallout 3, creepypastas, and otherwise, but exploring off of the music from that game has completely changed my life. I've been collecting 78rpm records since 2017, researching their artists and labels, and writing a book about one of those 78 artists unappreciated mostly. I've met and known some pretty unforgettable people who did the same things I did to get here, and I'll always have the Fallout Number Station creepypasta to thank for it.
Just have to say I absolutely loved reading this comment. This is what it's all about. Nobody knows where life will take you and what can spark off a passion or a lifechanging new direction... a creepypasta! Who would think of it? There's a lot of people who look down on this genre of horror or entertainment or whatever, without scarcely for a moment thinking about the millions of people who's lives could have been influenced by it - like yours. A lot of people have formative experiences with these sorts of legends and it leads all kinds of places. Thanks again for sharing, I really enjoyed reading your comment.
@@shadesofslay although the art of Creepypastas have certainly died out and turned into something completely different now, for both bad and good, they still have a place in my heart. I've had thoughts of trying to narrate them, after reading one to a friend said that I really have the voice for it.

Yes No Bs. I'm more comfortable and chilled while playing New Vegas than I am Fallout 3 especially at night. I always feel like someone is just a few feet away from me at all times or this subtle sense of dread. Kinda like that one empty level in GMod
I didn’t play a whole lot of fallout 3 but compared to NV and 4 it’s def the most unnerving of the three of them. I was truly terrified while wandering the capitol wasteland

Interesting. Another commenter mentioned GTA as a possible source - I've never completed Portal 2, but isn't Doug Ratman in Portal 1 as well? Anyway yeah, definitely intriguing to consider that this is a general gaming urban legend... seeping from one community to the next!

3:45 that is 100% an Easter egg. The skeletal remains can also be found in the museum in DC. it just got copy and pasted in the water for players to discover
Mr. Crowley stays at Underworld until you bring him all the bunker keys. If you decide to give them to him instead of going to the bunker yourself, he leaves and traverses the wasteland towards the bunker. That's possibly why he was spotted in the cemetery. I once gave him the keys and waited for him to return with the power armor but he never came back so I went out looking for him. Went to the bunker and noticed it hadn't yet been unlocked so he hadn't been there yet. Turns out for some reason he went into that warehouse that stores all those unexploded nukes and got stuck on the shelves in a running animation. Dispatched him and took all the keys for myself. That was actually when I realized I could go to the bunker with all the keys without him, after pickpocketing his off him of course
I love that rather than just teleport him there, they make him actually go. Leads to all sorts of emergent gameplay/situations and even the glitches are amusing.
@shadesofslay Yeah he actually trots through the map to his destination. It's pretty cool. I do wonder what would happen if he encounter a deathclaw or something that killed him along the way if that's possible. You can follow him the whole way if you felt like it
@@Redneck_Hero It could happen - in fact, there are stories of missions being borked for this very reason - especially in Oblivion! THAT has the best NPC stories. Looking forward to doing those episodes.
The only problem with that is the cemetery shouldn't be in the path to the bunker, at least in my memory. But, I remenber Crowley following me back to an random dungeon to attack me for stealing the armor, checking in the Wiki it says: "After obtaining the armor, Crowley can appear randomly at places which the player character has fast traveled to or waited at." So probably the player that investigated the cemetery had stole the armor and Crowley spawned next to him. Also, I'am pretty Mr Burke also follow the player during a quest and in very rare occurrences he can follow you for months ingame time due to bugs, so he is another suspect as the ghost.
Would love to see more videos of this style about Fallout 3. I think it’s a game that has amazing atmosphere and “vibes”, even if lacking in the players ability to make choices. Your voice is relaxing in a way that adds to the vibe of creepy subject matters.
I remember my older brother once telling me about a tribe of Big Foot that lived within the Grove imagine my disappointment finding the location 5 years later finding out its only home to a bunch of hippies
My favourite myth was always the living FEV experiment. You know those bloated corpses in the dungeon where Fawkes is? Apparently you could see run into a living one in the wasteland near the Washington monument
Fallout 3 must be the only Fallout game which is zanny, supernatural and horrorish in nature, everywhere you go you feel like you entered into hell, not into a wasteland which i really really like it.
@@SpacemarineHelldiver You're right, there's nothing overtly supernatural in NV really, but there's stuff I found to be spooky - a great example is Vault 11.
I 100% remember the ratman legend when i was younger. I cant find anything on it myself. but i do remember at the time seeing images of a smeagol looking guy with a rat face. If i remember correctly it was kinda hunchback and had stringy hair.
that last area you showed pertaining to "the point lookout witch" is definitely "Ruzka's lair". it's an unnamed location where you will (sometimes) find the only Yao Guai in point lookout. the reason i say "sometimes" is because, for some reason she occasionally fails to load in when you arrive there. the solution that always seems to work for me is to save, quit and reload and there she is! the big red ball is a dead giveaway! kinda weird i know but, being the serial killing trophy hunter that i am in fallout, whenever i go to point lookout i always make certain i don't have any Yao Guai meat in my inventory so it doesn't end up getting mixed up and i can be sure that i'm adding the actual remains of Ruzka to my grisly collection! on a different note, this and the Terry Pratchett video you did have easily earned my subscription. love what you do dude. thanks for sharing your wonderful work.🙂

That last entry in the Numbers station creepypasta used to spook me the most back then. Its so alien and out of place for Fallout 3. Now after watching this i realize just how stupid it sounds. Ah thanks again for another nostalgia trip.

I absolutely LOVE that mod. I was just getting to it in my TTW playthrough (that's on the channel) but I've paused that for a little while. I'll share it soon though!
Flowers show up in a few places: there's hollyhocks in Tenpenny Tower, President Eden has some daffodils, and all types can be found around Tranquility Lane. I believe they may also show up in the Pre-War Theme for the player homes but don't quote me on that. There's probably more scattered around but I don't have the G.E.C.K. installed to check. Definitely a rarity though!

There was also one that suggested the radios after you killed Eden/3Dog would begin broadcasting predictions of the real world future which would come true

I remember hearing about the rat man. Can't remember where but he was supposed to be a half man half mole rat guy that had a unique combat knife that could supposedly one shot the player
"Hinter Dir" - Fallout 4, Pint-Sized Slasher... who ironically has a unique combat knife, just can't remember if it was Creation Club or not, the reason I remember the letter, I don't know much German at all, but understood that and still got jumpscared XD
Sure creepy things happen. I remember I often heard something following me but turning around revealed nothing and the footsteps stopped after I turned around. But that could be an audio lag. And once an important character died suddenly then when I left and came back in they were alive again.
The footsteps happened to me not long ago, I can't remember exactly where, I am sure it was somewhere around the Nuka Cola factory-Arlington Cemetary in a ghoul infested location. Definitely not Dunwich, Ain't going there until after Point Lookout lol

@@shadesofslay as I remember them, some people claimed the Ratman was a shadow in the distance. Others said they heard him make sounds through the walls, but could never see him. I seem to remember him being associated with the flooded sewer, but that could just be me misremembering. I heard the rumor enough that I was shocked you couldn't find more about him online. I thought that was one of the more popular rumors if I had heard of it. I assumed the ratman was an allusion to the brain or the crazy guy who tamed wildlife from the interplay games.
@@shadesofslay well I'm no ghost scientist but it seems to me that graveyards are places where the dead are put to rest, whereas ghosts are restless spirits, and ghosts tend to haunt the places where they died, so there wouldn't be ghosts in a cemetery unless someone actually died there, which is uncommon. of course that's not to say that there are no haunted cemeteries, just that they tend not to be.
Interesting.. very interesting, I love the fallout lore a whole lot but never knew about the puppet man nor the rat man in fallout 3 HOWEVER, I always knew about the creepypasta of rat man in GTA 4 I think GTA 5 as well. What even intrigued me tho as well was the numbers station. Crazy how I never heard of it til now yet I went to go check out the creepypasta video and hearing it just makes me feel hella uneasy. Either way this video was just as good as the new Vegas one! We need more like this
I’m glad you found it interesting - and don’t worry, I have LOADS more from these games as well as others - I’ll be careful to say what’s just rumours etc. but even if they’re fairly well known to some people, you’re a good example of how it’s still new to others! I hope you get to read this. I played Fallout 3 on 360 back in the day. On my first playthru of Operation Anchorage, I encountered a bug I have never seen listed or reported anywhere else. As you know, the Outcasts kidnapped a Gary clone to rip the pipboy off his arm or whatever. You can find this clone in a room adjacent to the simulator room. However on my playthru the model for the Gary clone was an elderly black man with greying hair. It still wore the correct jumpsuit and was still called Gary but it was NOT a “Gary.”

Comment section exclusive eh - but yeah that is an odd one - got no clue what would cause that! Maybe someone else will come across the comment who has some idea of what may have caused it. It’s not often you could call game glitches special, but somehow, there’s just something about the combo of the charm of the Bethesda game glitches plus the totally unique nature of some of them that makes them - well, not always - but mostly acceptable and kind of something that adds to your own personal mythology with the game. Of course there are some bugs that are just not funny - but ones like this? Gold. Thanks again for sharing it here!
@ I say never, but I did see it mentioned ONE time on the talk page for op anchorage on the old UESP fallout equivalent that I’m not sure still exists. One guy was like “hey this happened to me” and explained the same bug I had but there was very little response to it, if any.
Great video. I always love the atmosphere of Fallout 3 and the creepy mysteries I’d come across on the forums. I always found the numbers station one disappointing however. As soon as the legend went down the whole predicting world events rabbit hole. To me that just sounded straight out of a creepy pasta with no truth to it.
I'm pretty sure my first time seeing Fallout 3 gameplay, was over at some guys house, i was about 9 when the game came out, so his parents weren't so keen on letting me watch their son play it. What i did see though, were the glowing ones in the Dunwich building, so around 2013 or so, i got Fallout 3, and tried to track down the location i saw, but little did i know that when i returned there, it would actually feel like a horror segment. It's really cool, though, to have the little bit, i did see, be so infamous today.
great accent. a lot of us listen to fallout videos to pass time at work or later in day when dozing off. a lot better than some of the monotone or poor audio recorded fallout channels. keep up with the longer form esoteric fall out info. thank you
I remember adults refusing to play F3 because it was too scary 😂 same people had no problem with Dead space. Running out of resources, finding a hurdle you can't beat, those are more threatening than any misshaped monster. Fallout having those as well only makes it better!
True - interesting because games like Fallout really do (in some ways) show someone’s character through how they play, how they persevere, etc. and you’re right, trying to survive can be scary.
I grew up thinking Call of Duty World at War was super scary, cause they did catch a scary WW2 tune in campaign together with the Nazi-Zombies mode besides, but by this year I had played stuff like Amnesia with headphones in the dark
I’m replaying fallout 3 after playing it as a kid years ago and I have to say it’s definitely fitting for the Halloween season with the pre war decorations scattered around the map and the dark atmosphere it contains! I 100% New Vegas and now it’s time for 3 and I’m loving it so far.
I was playing FO3 a while ago with a bunch of mods and one of them somehow broke the Raven Rock radio station. I switched it on and Eden was just repeating "Stand now at the precipice." Ad infinitum.
@shadesofslay Bioshock is still my all time favorite game and franchise to this day. I have the definitive(?) edition on Xbox one now and revisit it from time to time on my series x. Great series. Even Bioshock Infinite. I love that game. Ever since I first played it on Xbox 360 all those years ago, I still often day dream about walking through Rapture just trying to imagine what it would be like. It truly was a unique game and we have System Shock and Ken Levine to thank for that. My only gripe with the remastered edition is they didn't include Bioshock 2's multiplayer

@shadesofslay I do have the remake of System Shock 2 but haven't really spent any time playing it yet. I just know that Bioshock is the spiritual successor to it. A game that spawned one of the greatest games in story telling, gameplay and environment is worth checking out. I have a huge backlog of games that I need to complete but my adhd always foils my attempts and I wind up playing something else. Working on it though. Still wanting to get back on PREY and complete that. Absolutely stellar game if you haven't already played it. Imagine Bioshock on a giant space station
Theres a lot of effort being put into poisoning AI data sets. Nightshade is one tool for digital artists, there are others for writing, videography, audio, and an AI identifying arms race. Theres an even bigger legal arms race thats building a lot of momentum and could see AI use having to cite its sources. I doubt AI will be used in some Fallout of the future to write creepy pasta, it won't be fun if you can just pass it though a detector and find out some vaguely creepy prediction easter egg was made with GPT-4o mini (cheapest mainline version).
Your last comment on predictive AI contains horrifying implications. Going by the paperclip analogy for Ai, If it really was, it could mean the AI didn't predict the events. It steered the world so the events would happen as it was told would happen.
Mm! In fact - and you may be referring to this in another way - I was also thinking of a particular ‘information hazard’ that I won’t tell you, because once you know, you’re doomed! Maybe I’ve given too much of a hint! But maybe you know already.
Also I would use Blackhall Manor as a player home whenever in Point Lookout. Would store caps and weapons in the bedroom safe upstairs and the bed wasn't considered owned so the player could sleep in it. To hell with Obadiah Blackhall
@shadesofslay I enjoyed it. Was really the only fancy place other than Tenpenny Tower that I enjoyed calling home. Sure it wasn't an official player home but there were no limitations that kept you from doing that. And it was a mansion and that always a plus in my book lol. I would never take the Krevbekneh(?) back to him. I would always take it to the Dunwich building and take it to the obelisk and then eliminate Obadiah once I got back since I discovered what he was doing in the basement.I would have liked to also take Desmond's mansion as my own but we all know what happened to that place. One thing I still do to this day is name my player character in 3 and in NV the same name and just let my head canon pretend that they were the same person just years apart. The kid from Vault 101 eventually left the Capitol Wasteland and ventured towards the Mojave and took a job as a courier and then the events of New Vegas would start thus expanding his adventure since he left the Vault
@shadesofslay Yeah it's a shame it gets blown up. Was much bigger that Blackhall Manor but also a lot of the rooms were blocked off anyway so it wouldn't have been that much fun as a player home

Fallout 3 is the only 3d game that feels like you are in apocalypse. All the rest feels like they have some measure of their shit together. New Vegas is the worst at feeling post apocalyptic.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Fallout 3 does feel like an apocalypse - however it’s almost as if it’s day one after the bombs dropped. I love it, totally, but if you look at Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Chernobyl - life has returned, etc. obvs Chernobyl is a bit different but it’s still lush. In Japan, people have completely rebuilt the cities and live there less than a century after total nuclear obliteration. So in a way, while it feels more gloomy, it’s actually a bit less realistic as to what should be expected. I BELIEVE fallout 3 was meant to be set much sooner after the war, but this was changed during development. I could be wrong. I’d have to look back into that again. But that may be worth digging around to see if there’s an explanation for the (fantastically) apocalyptic atmosphere of Fallout 3 in particular. I love all the games - I adore Fallout 3. But, it’s unique in that it’s kinda off the timeline in terms of what a natural recovery would look like centuries after the fact. Whew, I wrote a book there! But again, thanks for sharing, and I totally get why you’d like that gloomy feel. I made a video about the beauty of fallout 3 - hardly gets any views. But it sums up the tragic beauty they managed to capture in that game.

People who think the dunwich building is scary need to see some real scary shit. I BEG of you to play the "Metro" series! It's a much better post apocalyptic setting with some real good scares done much better.
The most disturbing thing that Bethesda decided to add to Fallout 3 in my honest opinion was those two Brotherhood guys who keep showing up randomly to pester you long after their quest was finished. Normally it wouldn’t be so annoying, just creepy, but since the official player housing in 3 doesn’t have the containers set as owned by the player, these two chuckleheads will often snag a weapon or two along with whatever else catches their eye on the way out your front door after you inexplicably wake up in your bed to find them silently standing over you. 😱
I rested in Megaton house once, had started a new game, turned around from bed to door, and a BOS trooper in power armor was standing there. He immediately headed out my door and left Megaton, heading towards the Citadel (I'm near certain) with me hot on his tail. No idea why this guy had showed up, hoping he would lead me somewhere, to something, but I was having his gear if he got killed, which happened not long after, don't remember what got him, probably feral ghouls. Probably just a glitch, I hadn't met the BOS yet.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love all the Fallout games I've played extensively - 3, New Vegas and 4. I've dabbled with 76 but have no problems with it other than not being so into online game vibe anymore. 1 and 2 I've never really delved into but I plan on it. Fallout 3 is in my opinion unfairly criticised. No game is perfect. But all I can say is that as a fan of Fallout and Elder Scrolls (and soon to be Starfield), Fallout 3 fits into that 'special' game bracket for me. There are very, very few games that feel as immersive as Fallout, ES etc. So I'll unashamedly continue to love them all :)

Apparent in comments here, and Iiterally last best Fallout game Bethesda ever made. If Bethesda had kept on making Fallout games with the same quality of F3 . Fans would be singing Todd and the teams praises 24/7, instead of complaining 24/7. F3 was the game that made me love Fallout in the first place. Never had a computer in the 90's or would've played F1 and 2 back then no doubt.

My best guess for the ratman thing is that someone confused it with that GTA rumor about a ratman in the metro, or it was possibly mentioned in some ancient video game rumors video because I swear to god I remember hearing something about it

You know its funny because when I first went into the Dunwich building, it didn't occur to me that the objects moving were paranormal activity that were scripted. I think I just assumed it was just buggy Bethesda objects lol!

What's even funnier is that the disappearing head _is_ just buggy Bethesda objects. Unlike other objects in the building designed to get flung around, that head is actually an entire body clipped through the scenery with physics disabled, but when you reload the cell the physics get re-enabled and the body gets shunted through the floor into the void.
The Fallout Numbers Station pasta changed my life forever. As a kid of 13 years old, trying to find a creepypasta was real or not, started listening to Galaxy News Radio on my way into GNR thru the ruins of downtown DC. To try and get a feel for what things will be like once I kill Three Dog. I wish so much that I could remember what I first felt when I started listening to the music. Billie Holliday, The Ink Spots, Andrews Sisters & Danny Kaye, the various transcription bands, Roy Brown, etc. Clearly I didn't hate it. That mixed with the fact that I could jam out to Roy Brown, Billy Munn, etc while blasting raiders & super mutants, or melancholically ponder life and prewar days while listening to Billie Holliday or The Ink Spots, etc made me quickly fall in love with music of the time and those genres.
9 years later, I still have a strong appreciation for Fallout 3, creepypastas, and otherwise, but exploring off of the music from that game has completely changed my life. I've been collecting 78rpm records since 2017, researching their artists and labels, and writing a book about one of those 78 artists unappreciated mostly. I've met and known some pretty unforgettable people who did the same things I did to get here, and I'll always have the Fallout Number Station creepypasta to thank for it.
Just have to say I absolutely loved reading this comment. This is what it's all about. Nobody knows where life will take you and what can spark off a passion or a lifechanging new direction... a creepypasta! Who would think of it? There's a lot of people who look down on this genre of horror or entertainment or whatever, without scarcely for a moment thinking about the millions of people who's lives could have been influenced by it - like yours. A lot of people have formative experiences with these sorts of legends and it leads all kinds of places. Thanks again for sharing, I really enjoyed reading your comment.

Mr. Crowley stays at Underworld until you bring him all the bunker keys. If you decide to give them to him instead of going to the bunker yourself, he leaves and traverses the wasteland towards the bunker. That's possibly why he was spotted in the cemetery. I once gave him the keys and waited for him to return with the power armor but he never came back so I went out looking for him. Went to the bunker and noticed it hadn't yet been unlocked so he hadn't been there yet. Turns out for some reason he went into that warehouse that stores all those unexploded nukes and got stuck on the shelves in a running animation. Dispatched him and took all the keys for myself. That was actually when I realized I could go to the bunker with all the keys without him, after pickpocketing his off him of course
I love that rather than just teleport him there, they make him actually go. Leads to all sorts of emergent gameplay/situations and even the glitches are amusing.
@shadesofslay Yeah he actually trots through the map to his destination. It's pretty cool. I do wonder what would happen if he encounter a deathclaw or something that killed him along the way if that's possible. You can follow him the whole way if you felt like it

The only problem with that is the cemetery shouldn't be in the path to the bunker, at least in my memory.
But, I remenber Crowley following me back to an random dungeon to attack me for stealing the armor, checking in the Wiki it says:
"After obtaining the armor, Crowley can appear randomly at places which the player character has fast traveled to or waited at."
So probably the player that investigated the cemetery had stole the armor and Crowley spawned next to him.
Also, I'am pretty Mr Burke also follow the player during a quest and in very rare occurrences he can follow you for months ingame time due to bugs, so he is another suspect as the ghost.
Would love to see more videos of this style about Fallout 3. I think it’s a game that has amazing atmosphere and “vibes”, even if lacking in the players ability to make choices. Your voice is relaxing in a way that adds to the vibe of creepy subject matters.

Fallout 3 must be the only Fallout game which is zanny, supernatural and horrorish in nature, everywhere you go you feel like you entered into hell, not into a wasteland which i really really like it.
There's def aspects of this sort of thing in NV and 4, but 3 100% has the most blasted sombre wasteland of the modern Fallout games.

that last area you showed pertaining to "the point lookout witch" is definitely "Ruzka's lair". it's an unnamed location where you will (sometimes) find the only Yao Guai in point lookout. the reason i say "sometimes" is because, for some reason she occasionally fails to load in when you arrive there. the solution that always seems to work for me is to save, quit and reload and there she is! the big red ball is a dead giveaway! kinda weird i know but, being the serial killing trophy hunter that i am in fallout, whenever i go to point lookout i always make certain i don't have any Yao Guai meat in my inventory so it doesn't end up getting mixed up and i can be sure that i'm adding the actual remains of Ruzka to my grisly collection!

I was hoping someone would pick up on that flower, I zoomed right past it on purpose!
Flowers show up in a few places: there's hollyhocks in Tenpenny Tower, President Eden has some daffodils, and all types can be found around Tranquility Lane. I believe they may also show up in the Pre-War Theme for the player homes but don't quote me on that. There's probably more scattered around but I don't have the G.E.C.K. installed to check. Definitely a rarity though!

Sure creepy things happen. I remember I often heard something following me but turning around revealed nothing and the footsteps stopped after I turned around. But that could be an audio lag. And once an important character died suddenly then when I left and came back in they were alive again.
The footsteps happened to me not long ago, I can't remember exactly where, I am sure it was somewhere around the Nuka Cola factory-Arlington Cemetary in a ghoul infested location. Definitely not Dunwich, Ain't going there until after Point Lookout lol

@@shadesofslay as I remember them, some people claimed the Ratman was a shadow in the distance. Others said they heard him make sounds through the walls, but could never see him. I seem to remember him being associated with the flooded sewer, but that could just be me misremembering. I heard the rumor enough that I was shocked you couldn't find more about him online. I thought that was one of the more popular rumors if I had heard of it. I assumed the ratman was an allusion to the brain or the crazy guy who tamed wildlife from the interplay games.

@@shadesofslay well I'm no ghost scientist but it seems to me that graveyards are places where the dead are put to rest, whereas ghosts are restless spirits, and ghosts tend to haunt the places where they died, so there wouldn't be ghosts in a cemetery unless someone actually died there, which is uncommon. of course that's not to say that there are no haunted cemeteries, just that they tend not to be.

Interesting.. very interesting, I love the fallout lore a whole lot but never knew about the puppet man nor the rat man in fallout 3 HOWEVER, I always knew about the creepypasta of rat man in GTA 4 I think GTA 5 as well. What even intrigued me tho as well was the numbers station. Crazy how I never heard of it til now yet I went to go check out the creepypasta video and hearing it just makes me feel hella uneasy. Either way this video was just as good as the new Vegas one! We need more like this

I hope you get to read this. I played Fallout 3 on 360 back in the day. On my first playthru of Operation Anchorage, I encountered a bug I have never seen listed or reported anywhere else. As you know, the Outcasts kidnapped a Gary clone to rip the pipboy off his arm or whatever. You can find this clone in a room adjacent to the simulator room. However on my playthru the model for the Gary clone was an elderly black man with greying hair. It still wore the correct jumpsuit and was still called Gary but it was NOT a “Gary.”

Comment section exclusive eh - but yeah that is an odd one - got no clue what would cause that! Maybe someone else will come across the comment who has some idea of what may have caused it. It’s not often you could call game glitches special, but somehow, there’s just something about the combo of the charm of the Bethesda game glitches plus the totally unique nature of some of them that makes them - well, not always - but mostly acceptable and kind of something that adds to your own personal mythology with the game. Of course there are some bugs that are just not funny - but ones like this? Gold. Thanks again for sharing it here!
@ I say never, but I did see it mentioned ONE time on the talk page for op anchorage on the old UESP fallout equivalent that I’m not sure still exists. One guy was like “hey this happened to me” and explained the same bug I had but there was very little response to it, if any.

Great video. I always love the atmosphere of Fallout 3 and the creepy mysteries I’d come across on the forums. I always found the numbers station one disappointing however. As soon as the legend went down the whole predicting world events rabbit hole. To me that just sounded straight out of a creepy pasta with no truth to it.

I'm pretty sure my first time seeing Fallout 3 gameplay, was over at some guys house, i was about 9 when the game came out, so his parents weren't so keen on letting me watch their son play it. What i did see though, were the glowing ones in the Dunwich building, so around 2013 or so, i got Fallout 3, and tried to track down the location i saw, but little did i know that when i returned there, it would actually feel like a horror segment. It's really cool, though, to have the little bit, i did see, be so infamous today.

Running out of resources, finding a hurdle you can't beat, those are more threatening than any misshaped monster. Fallout having those as well only makes it better!
True - interesting because games like Fallout really do (in some ways) show someone’s character through how they play, how they persevere, etc. and you’re right, trying to survive can be scary.
I grew up thinking Call of Duty World at War was super scary, cause they did catch a scary WW2 tune in campaign together with the Nazi-Zombies mode besides, but by this year I had played stuff like Amnesia with headphones in the dark

I’m replaying fallout 3 after playing it as a kid years ago and I have to say it’s definitely fitting for the Halloween season with the pre war decorations scattered around the map and the dark atmosphere it contains! I 100% New Vegas and now it’s time for 3 and I’m loving it so far.

@shadesofslay Bioshock is still my all time favorite game and franchise to this day. I have the definitive(?) edition on Xbox one now and revisit it from time to time on my series x. Great series. Even Bioshock Infinite. I love that game. Ever since I first played it on Xbox 360 all those years ago, I still often day dream about walking through Rapture just trying to imagine what it would be like. It truly was a unique game and we have System Shock and Ken Levine to thank for that. My only gripe with the remastered edition is they didn't include Bioshock 2's multiplayer

@shadesofslay I do have the remake of System Shock 2 but haven't really spent any time playing it yet. I just know that Bioshock is the spiritual successor to it. A game that spawned one of the greatest games in story telling, gameplay and environment is worth checking out. I have a huge backlog of games that I need to complete but my adhd always foils my attempts and I wind up playing something else. Working on it though. Still wanting to get back on PREY and complete that. Absolutely stellar game if you haven't already played it. Imagine Bioshock on a giant space station

There was a myth in GTA 4 of a ratman in the subay tunnels. The poster might have misremembered and mentioned the wrong game.
It’s possible - another commenter, I think, picked this up as well.
Theres a lot of effort being put into poisoning AI data sets. Nightshade is one tool for digital artists, there are others for writing, videography, audio, and an AI identifying arms race. Theres an even bigger legal arms race thats building a lot of momentum and could see AI use having to cite its sources.
I doubt AI will be used in some Fallout of the future to write creepy pasta, it won't be fun if you can just pass it though a detector and find out some vaguely creepy prediction easter egg was made with GPT-4o mini (cheapest mainline version).

Also I would use Blackhall Manor as a player home whenever in Point Lookout. Would store caps and weapons in the bedroom safe upstairs and the bed wasn't considered owned so the player could sleep in it. To hell with Obadiah Blackhall

@shadesofslay I enjoyed it. Was really the only fancy place other than Tenpenny Tower that I enjoyed calling home. Sure it wasn't an official player home but there were no limitations that kept you from doing that. And it was a mansion and that always a plus in my book lol. I would never take the Krevbekneh(?) back to him. I would always take it to the Dunwich building and take it to the obelisk and then eliminate Obadiah once I got back since I discovered what he was doing in the basement.I would have liked to also take Desmond's mansion as my own but we all know what happened to that place. One thing I still do to this day is name my player character in 3 and in NV the same name and just let my head canon pretend that they were the same person just years apart. The kid from Vault 101 eventually left the Capitol Wasteland and ventured towards the Mojave and took a job as a courier and then the events of New Vegas would start thus expanding his adventure since he left the Vault

@shadesofslay Yeah it's a shame it gets blown up. Was much bigger that Blackhall Manor but also a lot of the rooms were blocked off anyway so it wouldn't have been that much fun as a player home

Fallout 3 is the only 3d game that feels like you are in apocalypse. All the rest feels like they have some measure of their shit together. New Vegas is the worst at feeling post apocalyptic.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Fallout 3 does feel like an apocalypse - however it’s almost as if it’s day one after the bombs dropped. I love it, totally, but if you look at Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Chernobyl - life has returned, etc. obvs Chernobyl is a bit different but it’s still lush. In Japan, people have completely rebuilt the cities and live there less than a century after total nuclear obliteration. So in a way, while it feels more gloomy, it’s actually a bit less realistic as to what should be expected. I BELIEVE fallout 3 was meant to be set much sooner after the war, but this was changed during development. I could be wrong. I’d have to look back into that again. But that may be worth digging around to see if there’s an explanation for the (fantastically) apocalyptic atmosphere of Fallout 3 in particular. I love all the games - I adore Fallout 3. But, it’s unique in that it’s kinda off the timeline in terms of what a natural recovery would look like centuries after the fact. Whew, I wrote a book there! But again, thanks for sharing, and I totally get why you’d like that gloomy feel. I made a video about the beauty of fallout 3 - hardly gets any views. But it sums up the tragic beauty they managed to capture in that game.

The most disturbing thing that Bethesda decided to add to Fallout 3 in my honest opinion was those two Brotherhood guys who keep showing up randomly to pester you long after their quest was finished. Normally it wouldn’t be so annoying, just creepy, but since the official player housing in 3 doesn’t have the containers set as owned by the player, these two chuckleheads will often snag a weapon or two along with whatever else catches their eye on the way out your front door after you inexplicably wake up in your bed to find them silently standing over you. 😱
I've never had that happen to me, but I've heard of it! I feel a bit left out that they aren't stalking me :(
I rested in Megaton house once, had started a new game, turned around from bed to door, and a BOS trooper in power armor was standing there. He immediately headed out my door and left Megaton, heading towards the Citadel (I'm near certain) with me hot on his tail. No idea why this guy had showed up, hoping he would lead me somewhere, to something, but I was having his gear if he got killed, which happened not long after, don't remember what got him, probably feral ghouls. Probably just a glitch, I hadn't met the BOS yet.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love all the Fallout games I've played extensively - 3, New Vegas and 4. I've dabbled with 76 but have no problems with it other than not being so into online game vibe anymore. 1 and 2 I've never really delved into but I plan on it. Fallout 3 is in my opinion unfairly criticised. No game is perfect. But all I can say is that as a fan of Fallout and Elder Scrolls (and soon to be Starfield), Fallout 3 fits into that 'special' game bracket for me. There are very, very few games that feel as immersive as Fallout, ES etc. So I'll unashamedly continue to love them all :)
