Out of all the apocalyptical professions available in Fallout 76, I feel like the one where you get high on neurotoxic moth dust and study a wise bug...might be the better pick
The Wise Mothman is trying to protect humanity from Ug Qualtoth i think. Marlon says the voices he hears are always appeased after communing with the Wise Mothman, those same voices sound a lot like the ones the raider Hugo in the quarry heard back in F4... That was Ug Qualtoth and he eventually convinces Hugo to end himself after he's no longer useful. The Wise Mothman saved people from "the flood" aka the nukes. And We know Ug Qualtoth is connected to radiation given his influence over ghouls, the radiation emanating from his obelisk, radiation surrounding the sleeping giant in F4, and mini nukes at his altar... I like the idea of a cute highly intelligent moth beefing with Lovecraftian horrors. 👀
@@falloutboiden6271 The obelisk of Ug Qualtoth underneath Dunwich in f3 turned jamie and his father into ghouls plus it also attracts feral ghouls, they surround the obelisk worshiping it. Pre war, Ug Qualtoth led Constance, the owner of Dunwich to the quarry there she found the body of a sleeping giant, she was supposed to free this creature, she turned Dunwich into a mining business in an attempt to do so. The sleeping giant is a giant metal "statue" underneath the quarry in F4, it's breathing continuously shakes the earth, he's also surrounded by ghouls and radiation. The voices Hugo hears come from the sleeping giant.
The Wise mothman opposes eldritch forces... Although it seems more like they are more aimed at stopping the Interloper. Vengeful mothman serves the interloper instead.
I just built a nice room dedicated to the wise mothman in one of my vaults with a mothman power armor and everything still need a couple things to complete the room but im quite happy with it 😊
The cryptids (and especially Mothman) is the actual reason I play 76 and why I got into fallout. So it's definitely gonna be amazing if they give more attention to them in future updates. I'm enjoying the Rip Daring season, and hopefully I'll clear that scoreboard this week :D
Really great lore exploration. As a side note, recently a Mothman (not sure which kind) got inside a large camp structure of mine and with one blast destroyed everything in the room!
Nothing spookier than wandering down the street, freshly new to the game, taking a turn down a broken road towards an ever increasing amount of eerie looking trees at night only to see a couple spotlights nestled in between trees and upon getting closer realize its a monster.
Well I think, much like with the aliens in the fallout universe, the moth man was something that existed before the great war and without humans hunting it for a long time, it was able to procreate and even involve due to radiation
I remember when I first started playing 76 on launch, I encountered a Wise Mothman in a random encounter. It was hostile, so I had to kill it though. I know that encounter has since been removed from the game, but encountering the thing at level 2, fresh out of the vault, got me interested in the Cryptids of 76. Still obsessed with them and their lore to this day. “Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt” has been my favorite season so far because of this. Can’t wait to learn the lore of the Blue Devil and Ogua once they’re added! Good video as always, Friend!
Oh that’s awesome you got to see that! Ended up being removed before I had a chance too. Cryptids are probably my favourite thing in 76! Appreciate you checking the video mate 😁
In the vault used for daily ops, the one full of ice from damaged cryo units, there are tubes with giant cocoons/chrysalids. Think that vault was mutating the stock of animal subjects it was supposed to preserving.
Correct! Those are called experiment tubes. The only conflicting bit of evidence would be the timeline - the first sightings of the Mothman were pre-war but the team in Vault 96 entered after the bombs dropped. With specific instructions not to introduce any species or mutations outside the Vault. They would later escape though. Not sure what they will end up doing with it, but they really do look like chrysalis pods so there might be a connection!
@Uranium Fever but we do also know that the mothman cukt was prewar, and there is a secret cryotube we can't access while exploring that vault which has a "special" occupant that has properties that don't follow known laws of physics. I've always been of the opinion that it was a flatwoods monster, but with the knowledge that the mothmen can teleport in combat, aren't normal and never have been normal, and that the experiment pods visually look like mothman cocoons it is at least a possibility that there is a connection.

I’m not a huge fan of Fallout’s take on Mothman. He’s supposed to be half man, half moth.. in 76, he’s basically just a giant, supernatural moth. Btw, I grew up and still live only 45 minutes from Point Pleasant irl. I’ve been there a few times and have seen the real statue of him.
I’ve never been there but I was watching a documentary about mothman on history channel and they showed a drone fly by of point pleasant and I instantly recognized it from the game, granted it’s bigger in real life but the layout of buildings and stuff looked roughly the same
It would be nice to get a mission where perhaps radiation mixes a human with a mothman and becomes what looks like the classic mothman. Or they could show the king mothman or queen mothman or something and they’ll look perhaps like the classic. Also now that Indrid Cold is in the game and in real life he was seen by people in the town at the same time as the mothman I could see a quest connecting them together.
@@UraniumFever76 i know and i think at least from a game design perspective they reused parts of the mirelurks, because if you have allready a more leged model with animation capabilities why start from scratch. It would explain why mothy has such a round head and this weird not the slightest insect like wings, they don't fold under a protective part they just wrap around it's body like arms. Given the state of which 76 started i think reused and recycled assets/creatures are very likely. *deaws tinfoil hat*
@@UraniumFever76 absolutely i mean they did the 2.&3. Deathclaw in FO4 (Gulper, Gatorclaws) for FO76 they added the Sheepsquatch. They all have similar frames and the Gulpers are still coded partly as Deathclaws because they have a low change of dropping their claws. After moonshine i often have 3-5 in my inventory. So curious will the devil drop Sheepsquatch pelts and Deathclaw claws?
I was honestly really hoping for both Cults to have a reputation system kinda like we have for Foundation and Crater. It'd be so cool to be able to delve more into them even if just from an RP standpoint.
I built my first character around the mothman cult and all my camps have been around some place with some relation to the wise mothman, currently situated in the area point pleasant
I think Mothman is a dimension jumper. That's why they both appear in our timeline and in Fallouts. Plus you literally see them "jump" in a puff of smoke.
Yo, these things are so cool and badass! I just randomly stumbled upon this video, and I never even knew these things existed. I bought Fallout 76 on release, played it for about 10 hours, and then never picked it up again...
When I first started the game I ran into a mothman just sitting there and I walked up to it and it didn't try to kill so I just walked away I'm surprised it didn't kill me
I think the moth man is an FEV infected moth. Still, I have no idea about The Interloper and The Visitor. There must be a connection with the Zetans somehow.
If i saw this when i was 10 years old i would freak tf out! i made a project in 4th grade about Point Pleasant, West Virginia where the original mothman is from. I was real into cryptids as a kid (thinking they were real LOL) . and i used to play a ton of fallout 3 aswell so seeing them both wouldve blown my mind.
Funny how there's been many creepy pastas surrounding the idea of a Moth man, Ik there is one where you can summon him and he'll answer any question you ask him, but its recommended you dont ask more than 3, and how you cannot mock or insult him. Another I believe it was also another mothman where it goes to a man in a forest, forcing the man to bring children to the mothman for it to Eat. After it was done or the man ran out of them, eventually the "Seed Eater" ate him as well, and afterwards theres other rumors that follow soon after it, My knowledge on the seed eater side though is limited since its been a while when I last read it
Something people don't really talk about is the moth man also has claims in ohio. Ans many people depict him destroying the bridge that connects the two states. Which happens to also be destroyed in the game. I don't think the nuke did it.
First time I got back onto FO76 after awhile they'd just added mothman and I was just building my house when a stalking mothman appeared out of nowhere and scared the ever living shit out of me before disappearing again
Wow I never knew about Wallace. I do like the idea that the Mothman was a man made creation. Maybe Wallace did have some influence on the birth of the mothman. Maybe created as a government surveillance project?
Either way it should've never been given such a crappy event in its name. The equinox this month has served only to cancel out the mutation events.. which is tragic as there isn't anything worth getting from the event. Cool concept, tragic execution.
I play these games and wonder how the hell someone keeps their skin so nice and clear! I'm already a crater-face and those damn nukes wont help unless I'm a ghoul!
Wish a lot of these faction were joinable in the games, it’s like Bethesda always creates these bad ass factions with cool stories just to make them not playable. Would love to join the cult of the moth man or the gunners, or the Rustdevils from fallout 4 etc. They should really add more story gameplay to these factions.
May I ask what music you used in this video precisely? 👀 Just looking up Epidemic Sound didn't show anything 😭 Great video!!!!!!!! Loved every second of it!
I should update that lol I used most game soundtracks for this one. The video opens with a track called ‘Midnight Aristocracy’ from Warhammer Total War. Generally all the others are tracks from Fallout 76!
I theorize that the purple eyed mothman is being corrupted by the Flatwoods monster/the zeta. (I commented this before getting to the end of the video.😂 good to know my thought process was on track)
I was one of the few who beta tested 76. Seeing a Wendigo chase you across the map were good times till people broke the mutations and started spam killing
I am hoping for a mothman theme update where we get the ability to nuke the interloper and fight it. I have wanted to fight it for over a year now. I am sure others are itching to kill the cosmic horror.
Is sample x001 possibly a mothman? They def seem to be able to ‘shift’ and honestly I always got the impression that the moth men are a pre war species from all the lore we have
Ive not yet seen your channel before, but im always open to more fallout content (even if its the game that hath no name) simply curious though, whats your take on 76 and canonicity? Because if 76 IS indeed canon then there are indeed eldritch and possibly supernatural entities like our mothy boi, potentially a dunwhich horror, and the CoA are seemingly blessed by some form of entity, wether it is indeed Atom or something that accepts the misguided praise is a mystery. Sorry for a ramble but i live in the wasteland at this point. Hope ya dont mind my mad ramblings in future video comments!
Hey thanks for checking the video bud! Oh man what a question… topical too as I’m working on something else that’s heavily related to that question. In short it’s very problematic I think.. 76 has some of the most overpowered things in the series. Ultracite as a power source, the Flatwoods monster and of course all these unique species. How it’s all going to line up in terms of a timeline with the other games is unclear currently. I think it’s canon to a point but something big will happen that explains why we don’t see a lot of these things in future games. Not at all I love seeing theories, and welcome any thoughts you have on future videos!
@@UraniumFever76 the only theory ive seen that i personally use as an excuse to play it, is that the appalachian wasteland is a vault tec simulation designed to give a possible look into what the wasteland may offer based on knowledge given by various companies/entities, posiedon, enclave, robco and general atomics, so its not the wasteland we get but a pre war projection OF the post war landscape. Hard to explain in text but it can account for the amount of small discrepencies but could be used in latter mainstream games for different companies or such, just slightly altered to fit the canon. Thats my hope anyways. Im also very interested in the pre war monument and architecture possibly related to zetan, (or dwemer ill die on this hill), or seperate civilization cabot found. I checked your post but didnt see a date, any timeframe for that? Dont mean to be nosy!
@@spacewhale5919 Got a video planned on that too bud lol Virtual Strategic Solutions could be behind it! I personally think there is some evidence to suggest it could end up being something like that. The Purple one is definitely the friendliest currently! A blue one would be really cool. Rejoice brother!
Entertaining, informative and captivating. Thanks from Panama city Beach, FL
Appreciate that mate! Thanks for checking the video 😊
Am I the only one that thinks the Mothmen are kinda cute
Cute/gross if you have your sound on..
I'm struggling with my scavenger Ally so Ive been trying to search for other allies and I hope I can find new allies with this new update
Steven scarberry is an ally from the scoreboard!
He’s so pudgy and adorable..you leave mothman alone lol
That’s awesome Darth! Would love to see it for myself. It’s a very different take for sure!
I’ve never been there but I was watching a documentary about mothman on history channel and they showed a drone fly by of point pleasant and I instantly recognized it from the game, granted it’s bigger in real life but the layout of buildings and stuff looked roughly the same
I can see how youd have this opinion. I don't share it, but I understand it.
Never had an issue with them, the red ones like to give me beans though for some reason.
The Mothman is only a glorified Mirelurk with wings.
haha think that's a tad harsh on the Moth lads Anna! That sonic blast can be nasty!
@@CRYOKnox on that we definitely agree lol the blue devil is looking a little like the Deathclaw model already on first viewing!
Dude when u read these stories you put me in a trace , like i floating on air , keep doing what you're doing m8
Yay just in time for Mothman Equinox my first so yeah excited 💪
Yes me too! I need to get footage from it this time!
I wish we could have one as a pet or let us join the cult
I was honestly really hoping for both Cults to have a reputation system kinda like we have for Foundation and Crater. It'd be so cool to be able to delve more into them even if just from an RP standpoint.
Great idea!
When I first started the game I ran into a mothman just sitting there and I walked up to it and it didn't try to kill so I just walked away I'm surprised it didn't kill me
Steven is Indrid Cold. Voice is the same.
They are the same actor!!
Starting the video, and ur voice is perfect
Thanks! Steven scarberry says the first line though haha
Why not both?
Funny how there's been many creepy pastas surrounding the idea of a Moth man, Ik there is one where you can summon him and he'll answer any question you ask him, but its recommended you dont ask more than 3, and how you cannot mock or insult him. Another I believe it was also another mothman where it goes to a man in a forest, forcing the man to bring children to the mothman for it to Eat. After it was done or the man ran out of them, eventually the "Seed Eater" ate him as well, and afterwards theres other rumors that follow soon after it, My knowledge on the seed eater side though is limited since its been a while when I last read it
Absolutely epic brother!!! I can't wait for more like this!!! 😎😎
Cheers buddy! Plenty more on the way!
@@UraniumFever76 one word ADDICTED!!!! 😁😁😁😁
Oooh, nice one mate!
Thank you matey!
Mothman straight up looks like the Hash Slinging Slasher 😂😂😂😂
you forgot ab the third event to meet him the random encounter
They removed it after Wastelanders!
my Fallout76 character is totally one of the cultists that pray to the wise mothman he's so freaking cute 🎉
Oh that's really cool! I wish we could join one of the cults as a faction!
@@UraniumFever76 100% id love to be able to do like a daily mission for them like killing the red eyed lier or gathering eggs
Yeah they really tease whatever he wrote a lot! Would be a shame if it ends up being nothing!
PRAISE BE THIS HOLY MOTHMAN
Either way it should've never been given such a crappy event in its name.
The equinox this month has served only to cancel out the mutation events.. which is tragic as there isn't anything worth getting from the event.
Cool concept, tragic execution.
I bough a baby mothman plushie from Squishable. He enjoyed you video.
That’s great haha! Thanks for checking it out! 😊
But most importantly: will we ever be able to tame one and have a big floofy pet mothman?
I built a church underneath a mothman spawn next to a cultist base. It's pretty great when the mothman is perched above the altar.
I play these games and wonder how the hell someone keeps their skin so nice and clear! I'm already a crater-face and those damn nukes wont help unless I'm a ghoul!
does anyone else get reminded of the Radiance from Hollow Knight when listening to the mothman cultists unhinged ramblings?
Wish a lot of these faction were joinable in the games, it’s like Bethesda always creates these bad ass factions with cool stories just to make them not playable. Would love to join the cult of the moth man or the gunners, or the Rustdevils from fallout 4 etc. They should really add more story gameplay to these factions.
Is it just me, or does anyone else have a sudden urge to dress in mothman cultist gear and kill other players in fallout?
Ur audio is much higher quality than most.
Thank you! Appreciate that.
I hope they include this stuff in a good game so I can properly enjoy it
4:45 Is that a God damned Vincent Price impersonator
See, this is why we need to gather as many mini nukes as we can and seal up Lucky Hole Mine for good.
Put a lot of Purple Eyes around the Interloper.
Preach. How has it taken this long haha that thing should stay buried!
Monster or Alien ? No idea, i just keep shooting them until they stop moving, then i keep shooting just to be sure
@@UraniumFever76 Ah nice! Thx! Keep up the FANTASTIC work! 😄
Whatever Mothmen are, I'm dating several of them
Haha that's quite impressive!
I theorize that the purple eyed mothman is being corrupted by the Flatwoods monster/the zeta. (I commented this before getting to the end of the video.😂 good to know my thought process was on track)
I love moth man IRL and I always try to take pictures of him in the wild I have some that put the devs to shame for the loading screen
so he's basically the jersey devil but for W Virginia?
Seems like it! They actually teased the jersey devil as a possible future Cryptid.
Good one dude🍻
Thanks Pat 🍻 appreciate you checking the video mate!
irradiated moth
Do you think its just radiation though?
@@UraniumFever76 probably slurped up some of that good ol' Huntersville tap water
that the extra fun of fallout when the line between if something here because of the radiation/mutations or by something else entirely
Yeah I like that there's a bit of mystery to it!
I was one of the few who beta tested 76. Seeing a Wendigo chase you across the map were good times till people broke the mutations and started spam killing
I dont play Fallout or even really like it. But i bought the Mothman Pop Vinyl because he is awesome.
08:17 But in this possible future combat encounter...could we sacrifice him instead?
insect or alien, maybe both? its definitly one more then the other, and thats a freaking bug
As a member of the Mothman cult I can confirm we make oils out of Mothman eggs
This is some good content! Solid script, loved the clips and enjoyed the themes you brought up.
I am hoping for a mothman theme update where we get the ability to nuke the interloper and fight it. I have wanted to fight it for over a year now. I am sure others are itching to kill the cosmic horror.
Is sample x001 possibly a mothman? They def seem to be able to ‘shift’ and honestly I always got the impression that the moth men are a pre war species from all the lore we have
charles got that eighthead
Recently i was attacked by the mothman Stalking one with Red eyes was an interesting fight
They are kinda cute
So the Ancient Minds video is a really big one (I'm using some mods from Fallout 4) and getting shots from the other games, so I think it could be two weeks or so. Planning to have some smaller lore videos out in the meantime. Will definitely update once its ready to go though!
Im so bummed out i missed the Mothman Cultist Ally
its too supernatural imo to he something genetically mutated from radiation so I think it's an alien
