There are a ton of apps that can accomplish this but this is the only 100% free method I am aware of. As always if someone finds a better free option share it here in the comments and I will test it out.
It's not that it is not enough it's that nolo home is more compatible with Nvidia chipsets. If serious about getting this working I'd try an AMD 2022 driver to test.

@TheThorns Which smartphones without pentail in your opinion are best suited? Sony XZ Premium: IPS, ppi ~800 Sony XZ2 Premium: IPS, ppi ~800, but the presence of an additional white pixel. Is bad. Not suitable for VR. Modern smartphones have a much lower ppi. At the same time, their matrices are OLED, which will entail a pentail.
There are so many phones with varying hardware. Not to mention that this software is very picky. You may have better luck checking forums and or just contacting their support directly.

I'd make sure nolo is fully updated and also restart the PC , phone and router. Many people never restart their phones and sometimes that does the trick. Best of luck.

it uses the phones gyroscope and accelerometer. So looking up, down, turn left , turn right , tilt to the side left & right. For additional movement such as head position while leaning in or bending over you will require a webcam or kinect bar.
I think it could be a very good but that all depends on your router, phone, system and comfort of the headset. For the setup in the video if I had a wheel at the time of filming I'd play it!

The only time I noticed latency issues was when I was also streaming a movie also over wifi on the TV while also trying to test this. once I turned off the TV it went back to normal. This is heavily dependent on your graphics card , phone wifi chipset and router used. If this doesn't work out for you I suggest dropping the money for iVRy. With iVRy you are paying for better compatibility & stability.
The sound is broadcast to the phone and there is no picture, sometimes a menu appears but it is impossible to interact with it, a black screen on the smartphone.
As stated in the video there are numerous ways to track movement and controller. For VR chat a webcam or xbox kinect works best for full body and using a standard controller for general menu changes. For gorilla tag I am uncertain as I have not tried 3 degree wii controllers on this game.

depends on what you are using it for. For VRchat you can turn old android phones into slime trackers. Or you can use Amethyst and an xbox Kinect for full body tracking. however if gaming and things like hand position and wii motes your only half way decent option is driver4vr.
So...this half-worked for me. I have it on my smartphone, and my smartphone is connected and able to be used as a headset. the problem? the screen is blank on my smartphone. Any idea what's causing it?

sounds like an IPD issue. Does your headset have an eye adjustment or are you straight up using a google cardboard? There are several tutorials on how to measure your IPD so you can adjust the lenses accordingly.
This is dependent on software for you PC so you will need to look into it yourself. Also keep in mind that many VR games require 6 degrees of movement for the controllers to work correctly. Most 3rd party controllers are only 3 degree.
You using 2.4 GHz wifi or 5 GHz wifi? If using 5 GHz I would try restating the computer , the phone and possibly the router. Would also check to make sure Nolo PC is fully updated on the windows side of things. Not sure if you already did these things but they are the most general things to check. Best of luck
There have actually been lots of hand tracking for phone VR in the past. Actually gear VR had phone hand tracking. The issue is 3 degree versus 6 degree of movement. Phones only tend to have one out facing camera or stacked if multiple. In order to have 6 degree hand tracking on phones we would need base stations or additional adapters for the tracking. I think no one has created this for phones due to cost of development and lack of intrest in phone VR when compaired to other headsets. Good thing is running performance test is not required to complete the tutorial. It just helped you get a better idea of how well it will run on your system.
I get everything connected but when I launch something I only hear the sound and when I move my phone it moves on my pc screen but there is no screen on my phone only sound
As far as free software not that I am aware of. however iVRy is the cheapest and most stable I know of but have not personally tested on anything other than a geforce 1050 and 3060
This is a free third party software that is designed for their Nolo hardware. You are just tricking it to work with DIY headset. It favors Nvidia cards over AMD. However some have had luck using older AMD drivers. It prefers windows 10 over windows 11. Even if you have a top of the line system if you have an AMD card or are running windows 11 it may not work.
If the games works with the controller than it works with the controller. Some games like borderlands allowed mouse to move head but all actions to be performed with controllers. Keep in mind this was even before the VR version.
Have not tried it , as Nolo was designed to work with steam alone and it does that job well. Since I'm not at home to try this , I am making an educated guess below. Let me know if it works! * You might want to add a non-steam game to steam library and then try and load it within VR. Go to Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library and choose the game you want to add. Then go into Steam VR home in VR and try to load it from your library while in VR.
depends on the glitches and what game is being used. Please note this is very finicky. It prefers NVidia cards over ATI. also tends to work better on windows 10 versus Windows 11, and if your phone specs aren't at least as good as a Samsung Galaxy s6 or s8 I wouldn't even bother.
Make sure you are on 5ghz wifi and not 2ghz wifi. Also make sure the software is updated on the PC. If those two check out fine then you might want to try the steam version even though it takes forever to update. I personally have not tested the galaxy s22 series so if you figure it out or still fails post a comment so others know.

Sorry to hear this & a bit surprised you can't just override it with advanced settings. Should I assume that developer options and advanced options are locked by your provider?

Nolo can be used for free for basic headset functionality but there will be no depth, just 3 degree of movement using the sensors on your phone. Have not personally tried the switch controllers. I know the wii controllers can be used as a standard controller and some basic motions.
check for updates on Nolo and steam VR make sure you restart your machine & phone This software favors Nvidia cards over AMD. However some have had luck using older AMD drivers. It prefers windows 10 over windows 11. Even if you have a top of the line system if you have an AMD card or are running windows 11 it may not work.
As long as it is being done through steam VR I don't see why it wouldn't work to display. Would have to use standard keyboard and mouse without any hand motion navigation and unsure how the resolution would look. Basically will it work? sure! will it look good and be functional? unsure! have not tried myself.

The gear VR is somewhat unsupported unless you jail break it. for most it is best to just buy a nice phone VR case. Also the Samsung gear VR only goes up to the galaxy s9. At least here in the USA that is when it stopped support. @@olej215
Everyone I have talked to seems to have better luck if they try an older driver. Nolo will not be updating the android or windows version anymore so we are stuck using 2023 drivers and some early 2024 drivers. Nvidia cards have the most compatibility and ATI cards are a hit or miss. worst case buy iVRy from steam.

Compatibility is picky for this free method, however if you don't have an NVidia card and or a compatible phone iVRy on steam has better compatibility. iVry isn't free but at least you'll have working VR that imitates a CV1
Assuming you are talking about network equipment and not internet I have to assume you are on wireless G / 2ghz wireless and not wireless 5ghz / N. Sorry if you are, can't change that requirement. Also sucks they have since turned off the cable option, something about issues with permissions being an overseas app, same old FCC regulation stuff.
I do have a 5ghz bandwidth, but the wifi at home is so bloated of everyone using it, that its impossible to keep up without a very compressed image, and even then, it just breaks and stops working, same thing with airlink streaming, even ALVR, so I'll be tethered to a cable forever...

Hey, for some reason there's ghost vive controller that shows up and stacks ontop of the xbox controller, messing the controls, what do i do?
Depending on the game you are trying out you should be able to disable that in game settings.

Is it noticable and to what degree would you say ?

if using chrome try firefox, also may want to clear history on browser. Just tried it and it worked fine for me in USA. Make sure you follow my steps.

It really favors NVidia over AMD. however some have had some success installing older AMD drivers.

i successfully connected to my phone,
but my phone only showed "Connected to SteamVR",

Are you able to load a game from the desktop and then try and use nolo? Might just be steam home being odd.

Try restarting everything but have the controller already pugged up.
VR Preformence Test was delisted 6 months after this video was uploaded. This means that a section of this tutorial doesn't work anymore.

I get everything connected but when I launch something I only hear the sound and when I move my phone it moves on my pc screen but there is no screen on my phone only sound

As far as free software not that I am aware of. however iVRy is the cheapest and most stable I know of but have not personally tested on anything other than a geforce 1050 and 3060

This is a free third party software that is designed for their Nolo hardware. You are just tricking it to work with DIY headset. It favors Nvidia cards over AMD. However some have had luck using older AMD drivers. It prefers windows 10 over windows 11. Even if you have a top of the line system if you have an AMD card or are running windows 11 it may not work.

If the games works with the controller than it works with the controller. Some games like borderlands allowed mouse to move head but all actions to be performed with controllers. Keep in mind this was even before the VR version.

you are visiting it on the phone correct? Depending on the android version you may need to allow permissions.
How can I use it for other games than steam games
Have not tried it , as Nolo was designed to work with steam alone and it does that job well. Since I'm not at home to try this , I am making an educated guess below. Let me know if it works!
* You might want to add a non-steam game to steam library and then try and load it within VR.
Go to Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library and choose the game you want to add.
Then go into Steam VR home in VR and try to load it from your library while in VR.
I have glitches on android, do you know how to fix that, I used apk from under the video.
depends on the glitches and what game is being used. Please note this is very finicky. It prefers NVidia cards over ATI. also tends to work better on windows 10 versus Windows 11, and if your phone specs aren't at least as good as a Samsung Galaxy s6 or s8 I wouldn't even bother.

Make sure you are on 5ghz wifi and not 2ghz wifi. Also make sure the software is updated on the PC. If those two check out fine then you might want to try the steam version even though it takes forever to update. I personally have not tested the galaxy s22 series so if you figure it out or still fails post a comment so others know.

Hey, As you did I Download aircar but the Problem is the controller doesnt work even tho steam vr picked up the controller
restart steam and potentially replug the controller before starting steam. What kind of controller are you using? Did you ever get it working?

Nolo can be used for free for basic headset functionality but there will be no depth, just 3 degree of movement using the sensors on your phone. Have not personally tried the switch controllers. I know the wii controllers can be used as a standard controller and some basic motions.

As long as it works overall with your video card yes you can get it to work with war thunder.
What about virtual desktop?
As long as it is being done through steam VR I don't see why it wouldn't work to display. Would have to use standard keyboard and mouse without any hand motion navigation and unsure how the resolution would look. Basically will it work? sure! will it look good and be functional? unsure!

The gear VR is somewhat unsupported unless you jail break it. for most it is best to just buy a nice phone VR case. Also the Samsung gear VR only goes up to the galaxy s9. At least here in the USA that is when it stopped support. @@olej215

Basically any game that doesn't require motion controllers. Lots of them out there, just use the steam filters when searching VR content.

Everyone I have talked to seems to have better luck if they try an older driver. Nolo will not be updating the android or windows version anymore so we are stuck using 2023 drivers and some early 2024 drivers. Nvidia cards have the most compatibility and ATI cards are a hit or miss. worst case buy iVRy from steam.

It is impossible to use this, it is better to buy a full-fledged VR helmet
Compatibility is picky for this free method, however if you don't have an NVidia card and or a compatible phone iVRy on steam has better compatibility. iVry isn't free but at least you'll have working VR that imitates a CV1

Assuming you are talking about network equipment and not internet I have to assume you are on wireless G / 2ghz wireless and not wireless 5ghz / N. Sorry if you are, can't change that requirement. Also sucks they have since turned off the cable option, something about issues with permissions being an overseas app, same old FCC regulation stuff.
Isn't Wireless G like 20 years old and wireless N over a decade by now?
I do have a 5ghz bandwidth, but the wifi at home is so bloated of everyone using it, that its impossible to keep up without a very compressed image, and even then, it just breaks and stops working, same thing with airlink streaming, even ALVR, so I'll be tethered to a cable forever...
Oh yeah and my mistake, I realize that I typed wifi instead of internet, meant to refer to my internet speed overall
