This man is a legend in my eyes. The tests, the trials, everything he has gone through to make cheap gloves that allow you to FEEL in VR. That is crazy, I could never do something like this but I’m glad he is following his dream and doing it!
Thank you!!!! But it's not just me, we wouldn't be nearly as far as we are without all the people who helped get this project where it is!
@@LucasVRTech but only YOU have created a milestone for the Future VR Timeline!
I know I'm Lady but I wish I could buy these at a mark up
Haven't seen a young dude do something this cool with VR since Palmer Lucky showed of his Oculus Developer Kits.
@@LucasVRTech hear me out, add the buttons like in an old Nintendo Power glove
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Glove
He's just casually innovating the vr industry in his home by giving us functional cheap vr haptics I would not be surprised if 10 20 years down the line in history books he would be mentioned as one of the people who changed the industry
What a legend
20 years seems like long enough for books to become unused
@@BeeTaster lol 😆 he has an interactive exhibit in a vr museum
@@e-manyvelez7430 mich better 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
@@BeeTaster (Realizes the issues with that eventuality) I'm going to have to keep physical records on clay and glass panels for long term preservation...
Thanks for working to make an open source haptic glove. I hope this will open up more innovation in the vr accessories space
I hope this kid gets rich
And when he does, people will call him an evil capitalist 🙃
Same bro
I've had these parts printed/ordered and sitting on my desk for a while now. I assemble them now and again, but will be great to sit down with a video to finally assemble. Thanks a bunch for this project!
Mine are assembled but... I did a bad job crimping and they don't work great, the ESP32 is just sort of stuck on there, my power management is lacking, I don't have the joystick because I got Index controller sticks and the footprint won't /quite/ fit on a perfboard... etc. etc. I'm sure at least some of these issues will be solved by the tutorial.
It’s amazing how much this person has done for vr building affordable gloves for the vr community and that he is not only making gloves so you can FEEL vr but he is also working on temperature, squishy, and finger tracking simulation WHILE ALSO making an affordable vr treadmill!
This is awesome! Have you considered selling kits as merch? I could imagine a lot of people would be interested in something like that so they don't have to worry so much about hunting down all the right parts.
There'd be a demand for that but then he'd spend too much time assembling and shipping kits and not enough time prototyping and testing
@@sirspamalot4014 If he sets the price too low, yes. If he sets the price high enough to represent the value of his time, then no.
@@Andernerd Money has nothing to do with it, if he's building other peoples kits, he's not prototyping. We need him prototyping so the system gets better, more compact and more durable instead of pumping out hundreds of the same design that could be improved.
@@Andernerd the entire point of this project is an affordable haptic glove that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars, that ruins the entire point of this
@@sirspamalot4014 absolutely. Also note that he's a student. Each project is a learning experience in engineering. His experience incrementally builds up so he's an even better engineer. If he's doing production and shipping he's not gonna be learning that.
Seeing the whole progress of this project is been amazing. I mean, it started with a "essy" project, but Lucas has been coming with better and better solutions for each individual problem and big design upgrades on each version. Absolutely amazing.
I respect you so much. to be such a young engineer, building and creating something that youre pationate about thats OPEN SOURCE AND FOR THE PEOPLE is an amazing feat. thank you so much for what youre doing and much love
Man this is why I love this community. Everyone is just so creative and manages to make tech easily accessible to share to the rest of us!
I got turned on to this project when you showed up on LTT and I have to say I am still just beyond impressed, it's simple yet complex, elegant yet mindblowing. I cannot wait to see prototype 5.
Valve should hire this guy for making their next VR headset being rumoured.
I hope this will have a more clear and full instruction this time. I can't wait to see my old parents reaction when trying this!
My grandpa freaked out playing oculus rift, these will blow there mind
I would like to say, you're a true innovator and the fact that you don't have at least a million subs for that simple fact alone is crazy, but thank you so so much for releasing this kind of stuff for VR enthusiasts who don't want to shell out top dollar for some haptics. I salute you and would personally donate if I had the funds (why I'm here in the first place lol) but I cannot express gratitude or appreciation enough for everything you've done, and plan to continue doing.
I've always been interested in haptic feedback and always thought it would be the next leap to take on VR. you did a very good job on all your prototypes iterations! Looking forward to your next improvements
Thank you for consistently making updated tutorials! I've seen so many groups of people completely ignore the fact that their official tutorials haven't been updated to their current product. Wish you the best!
Waiting to by an ended just so I can make these gloves so excited and thanks to Lucas for bringing us all an amazing and affordable solution for what’s currently an enterprise level technology
I can really tell how much effort you are putting into creating and editing these videos. Just know it isn't going unnoticed!
Thank you so much for doing the work to put this together and help others get VR hapitcs. You're a total badass, and your production quality/on screen presence has improved so much recently it's awesome to see that kind of growth.
Thank you, bro! Thank you for taking the time for doing all of this!
I'm looking forward to you your projects!
currently building mine the tutorial comes great at the perfect moment. I think you are an amazing engineer, and I'm really looking forward to the treadmill.
I’ve been planing to build these soon, ordering the parts right now, this guide will be a big help, thanks!
Did you build it?
It's been a while since I've come across a 10+ minute video that I've watched all the way through and been genuinely impressed at every aspect of. The production is great, the instructions are great, and the gloves look incredible! Hopefully I can build myself a pair sooner rather than later. Nice work.
Thank you for your hard work and passion! Your efforts allow a lot of us to experience the more luxury side of VR without the bonkers price tags! :)
I just ordered an XR Elite and absolutely look forward to having a go at this project once it's here!
Absolute king, prototype 5 looks sick! If using both haptic gloves hasn't been implemented yet seeing it in prototype 5 would be crazy!
so excited!! i have all the parts and have started, but got stuck so im glad to have the tutorial :DD
Bro you're awesome. I've kind of followed your project for a while and man you've come so far to make something amazing!
This is exactly how I imagined that I would make such gloves, even the details are the same.
You are simply amazing. Thank you very much for publishing the source code.
I've been making a VR headset for the past 6 months and I have to say this is definitely going to be added to my arsenal of VR trinkets!
How’s the headset build going?
These are insane you should sell these, they would bring vr to the next level
My mind is blown every video release. I have everything needed to build it allready but V5 looks super good! These designs are so amazing that its hard to wait. xD You are doing a great job!
Your work is incredible. I can't wait for v5. It's amazing how quick this has come together. I wish you the best for putting this in more games. I can't wait to try and make some.
Prototype V = MASSIVE HYPE! The concept alone is enough to allow a clear picture of how efficient these are going to look and feel compared to type IV. Ordering everything for type 4 and building type 5 the moment you upload the files
wd40 isnt a lubricant, its a rust inhibiting solvent, that will even remove any actual lubricant in a part, so it will clean something like a potentiometer at first, but it wont act as a lubricant. you need ptfe or some form of actual lubricant oil to get actual long term lubrication in a moving part.
My first proto 4 is a year old at this point and still rotates smoothly, so maybe dissolving the original lube that comes on the pots is the important part
Good catch. I didn't even think about that. Hopefully he sees this chooses a different lubricant
@@LucasVRTech i'd imagine theres probably no lubricant in those pots as standard. some pots have a thick lubricant behind the pcb where the back end of the rotating shaft meets the case. but most of the time pots don't need to be that wear resistant or ultra smooth feeling. the part that will wear out is the carbon layer on the pcb, no real way to prevent that. but for this application some fluid in there might help.
wd-40 being a solvent is also bad for any plastic parts that might be in the pots, but i'd imagine even if they become brittle the pot will still work for a long time without issue. Just be better to use something made for the job. chain oil, 3in1 oil, sewing machine oil, or one people might have to hand, baby oil. Just dont use food oil, they'll go rancid.
This is so cool to me. I'm here so that when I finally do get into VR and VR games I can make these myself. But for now I'm here to support you and help with the YT algorithm.
Love the hard work you put in brother, I can see you have a real talent for this and you deserve the props. Don’t stop making tech 😭💯
I wonder if arm muscle tension is a possibility here. Like, imagine there being real tension not only when gripping a lever, but also tension/resistance when pushing/pulling a lever.
Anything is possible. But you're talking haptic suit. Not just gloves.
@@inventiveowl395 Maybe it could be an addon that reaches from the fingers to the shoulder point.
@@rookiepaw7305 probably will come after the haptic gloves is finished; no sense in making another prototype with that prototype still being made, with great progress
Strap a TENS unit to your muscles in your hand.
I think this looks great and I'm really looking forward to see how this evolves even further over time. Though, I still need to get a VR headset and a PC capable of running any games at all.
Regardless, I'm really liking this idea of force feedback gloves for VR.
I wish I could make a project this large scale, props to you man!
Amazing work
hey dude, whens the next video coming out?
This is the prime example of "you don't need to be big to make something big"
You are epic, man!!
Sick job. You probably hear this a lot anyway, but I genuinely feel that you and your friends have been doing amazing work to drive all of this forward. Thanks for that.
This is already really cool but prototype 5 looks extremely exciting. Love the 3dprinted spring and gear solution, hall effect sensors are also really cool and way more reliable in my experience. Wanted to make this but prototype 5 is too exciting.
does anyone know the release date for v5 its been a year
There is no release date
Absolutely love what you're doing and can't wait to see where prototype 5 ends up heading. Will definitely be having a go at building this!
Man, I'm really proud of my designs sometimes but you have more talent in your little finger than I could possibly imagine. This is a really cool project and I'm excited to see the next version! Good luck at MIT!
Hey! How's Version 5 coming along? Really cool project, would be interested to see how it's evolved in the past year and a half
If only I had a 3d printer
It's amazing how simple you've made these!
This is AMAZING! The apps and the driver on steam are so next level!
sombody should sell a kit of all the this stuff
It's been a year Lucas
Wow that’s really freaky. As soon as I buy all the supplies and equipment to finally do this project you release this video! Thank you!!
I've been keeping an eye on your work for quite a while now, you're doing some really amazing stuff. I don't own a 3D printer right now, but some day, when I do get around to purchasing one, these gloves will be one of the first things I make.
its 2024 now do i still wait for a new video or just make this
Hi Lucas. I would like to propose how your cool invention could be used to help people with disabilities. I am a teacher. I was talking today with a lady who has an animatronic prosthetic hand. It is connected via bluetooth and you program it to be able to perform various set actions eg pinch, grab, tripod pinch etc. She then flexes a muscle in her forearm and a sensor detects it and grips, pinches etc. I thought what a great idea it would be to use a glove like this on her good hand to "program" or "teach" the animatronic hand various new gestures, and her animatronic hand would mirror her gloved hand. This sounds possible doesn't it? You can currently "teach" it new gestures / actions through the app, but it is a complex process and a lot of guesswork, but having a glove on the other hand to teach it seems like the perfect solution. Is this something you would be interested in pursuing with your invention - using it as an interface to "teach" prosthetics new actions? If so, please contact me and I can put you in touch with her and the developer of the app that goes with the animatronic prosthetic hand. Thanks. Keep up the good work by the way.
wow the fit and finish of this project has improved tremendously. applause all around
Been following you since you first posted about the gloves on TikTok. It’s amazing how far it’s come!
I wonder does it work on pico 4 or does he still need to add it
its been a year, any updates?
dude ! you're a legend. Perfect background music choice btw.
been watching ever since the first prototype, the improvements are insane and I cant wait to see version 5!
I can wait to see more of prototype 5. It looks like its going to ve much slimmer without the string coils
Hope he’s okay haven’t uploaded in a year now.
I think the big time corps got him so they wouldn't have to compete with 60 dollar gloves when they want to charge 500 for their own gloves
incredible work. My old mind is blown with your innovation and knowledge. Subscribed!
This is probably the coolest VR project I've seen so far
dang bro what happened
He posts mainly on tiktok
guys i dont think prototyp 5 is coming
Yeahh its been a while ,just let him cook, he doing all this work unpaid in his free time
he dropped the beta a while ago on the discord server
Bruuuuuuuh that was just awesome my man. I am very impressed. Keep up the great work!
You're amazing king, what amazing progress!
Keep up the great work man, it’s so inspiring !
Yooo 17 minutes is so short for something like this! Awesome, that makes this project feel so approachable. You’re single handedly knocking out half of the barriers to entry for the whole world to get into VR
Hell yeah ol son!! Keep up the hard work!! They keep looking better and better!!
Thank you so much for making this project ! It's awesome ! Can't wait for a Quest 2 standalone compatible version !
holyy this looks awesome. The amount of debugging tools you made alone is more than any company would ever give you, gotta love that eye for details. Didnt know we are that far in vr already :D
wow ive been playing vr for 3 years and this is just amazing thanks for sharing this
These solutions are quite smart and thoughtful. This actually makes be cooler fr.
Hats off to you Lucas, respect! Never let anyone extinguish the creative fire in you, wish you all the best! :)
watching in VR! This is the first video I've seen of yours and it was amazing! Now subscribed!
We need to spread this man's channel all over the world man, someone sponsor this guy ! Really appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into developing these gloves.
Love the update vid! Grats and Grateful man!
That looks awesome!
Thanks for sharing and DIY guide!
Absolutely nuts, the level of ingenuity here is insane
Wow huge improve so far from v4 to v5, you're a legend! Waiting for prototype 5 to try to make it and try it
Straight heat. I can't. Once I get a proper workshop going I'm going to be joining you in making tons of vr tech and improvements. Can't wait for your treadmill build
Lucas, you are incredible! Keep it up, bro!!
Amazing bro! Keep up the awesome work
I wish i had a 3d printer and the patients to make these. They look amazing! Its also amazing how much time and effort you have put into these gloves and its truly appreciated by the community!
Hope to see you return with more prototypes in the future! You are absolutely insane at what you do!
Wow! Great work, man!
Man, this is just wow. I admire what you're doing. Now I clearly understand why I want to get myself a 3D printer.
I’m going to make these! Thank you so much!
This is so awesome!! :D Very well done and presented!
Lucas. I simply can't remember how long i've been waiting for this tutorial. Hopefully I can get to building this sooner or later
So excited for the next prototype version
The progress is incredible :)
I've been waiting for this video!!!
One of the coolest vr related things happening right now. So glad to see this accessible to us consumers. Can't wait to make mine as soon as I have a more capable pc
really creative and awesome project.. great job!
