      In general, i havent really heard any american or english band get close to the feel of the original thall from Scandinavia until Reflections latest singles.
      Other bands have given us great takes on thall, dont get me wrong. Nadir from Black Tongue is a great album that I would call Thall, the idea of infusing the “foreign” feeling riffs, excessively low tuning, blackened chord progressions, making guitars sound like alien instruments from thall and combining it with the feel of funeral doom and the chromatic nature of their hardcore roots was a genius way to bring freshness to the formula, but anyone trying to get close to Vildhjartas and HLBs sound has always fallen short.

    The reason those high fret low strings sound great is because of the same reason small gauges sound great. Thall is very opposite to djent. Djent is tight and compressed while thall is loose and phat. The more wobbly the note sounds the lower the note sounds in frequency. I think what Jonny is trying to say is that even though the notes are the same, the oscillation of the looser strings has wider and slower vibrations, giving it that heavy wobbly sound.

    24 fret more likely sounds a bit more dissonant because of micro intonation issues and making a high note with a thick string , which is more sensitivy to how you press the string goes a little bit sharp. Combining those aspects makes a more unique tonality

    • @somepunkinthecomments471
      @somepunkinthecomments471 2 роки тому +2

      The primary reason is because of inharmonicy. Essentially, the overtones the string is making actually become more and more out of tune as the scale length to string thickness ratio decreases. The stiffer the vibrating medium, the more dissonant with itself it becomes.

    Reflection Double drop D an octave further is isn't that far (we go to Triple drop C# so a full semitone below so we're more thall ;p) im just kidding (well i am about more thall than them, not about the tuning we have), this video helped me be more creative in writing 2 of our songs so thankyou boys! The last section made realize how much the drums are doing the heavy lifting. If you want to write without drums, how... How do you do that? Do you even do that? Where do you start writing one of these things?

      start with the drums. Especially if you want to add rythmic complexity

    Andrew, what will it take from the community for you to do a part 2 with Johny? Even if it's essentially a repeat of this video with a different demo song would be so gnarly. There is so little thall tutorials out there. I keep rewatching this video desperately trying to understand and replicate. Come to find out i've been doing bends all wrong and had to relearn that. So this video has been so helpful for me overall.

      I find it comfortable for doing quicker chord strums. Not necessarily about the power of the strum but more the speed at which it’s played.
