Man, 1:26 when you go from OO sounds straight to McCartney in full voice just kicks my ass. Your voice is as low as mine I'd say, and from your singing most wouldn't even realise the hard work and years you've put into sounding like this. 3:45 you're singing B4's like it's nothing. Just always "amazed" by your voice man. K
The first comment has to be from one of the most loyal fans 😂😂😂😂I'm having a little trouble at work, but I'll definitely buy lessons soon. I hope all is well with you, God bless you !
Tyler, you're my favourite vocal trainer. When I started following your steps, I noticed my voice never croaked or cracked the next day. Thanks for another great voice lesson.
I found you from a recommended video you made 3 years ago,and look how much improved of your videos today, quality, confidence, contents, that's all big change happened, good to see it
"What is this doing? We don't know exactly for sure." - To me that is the hallmark of a great voice teacher. To me you seem like a teacher who keeps learning and not egoistic. You know so much yet you are so humble. I've been singing classically for years and your lessons are the missing piece of the puzzle that helps me to sing other genres! Thank you!
Tyler, you're the only one I found, that centered the point! Was exactly my issue. I was closing "too much" and "too much things". Squeezing even not realizing I was doing so. Unfortunately I have to come to this by myself... a pity I've not discovered your videos before. I found this exercise very useful both to strengten the automatism, warm up and be focused and ready to perform mixed voice more gradually. Usually vocal teachers spoke about "being relaxed". Ok... but that's just a part of the puzzle. Instead, I think, your approach to get "flow phonation" and getting (just) the right amount of vocal compression it's crucial, a real game changer. So, thank you for your lessons and please keep going on, your work is really precious! Greetings from Italy
This is awesome, and I love the candy/piñata story shared at the end - I am living proof of this. I've been a musician my whole life but sadly bought into the myth I didn't have what it takes to sing, because any attempts I ever made I was always out of tune and my voice would crack. Finally about 9 months ago I started working at it with daily exercises and a teacher-hitting that piñata just a little more each day-and after these 9 months I have completely stunned myself with the transformation - proper breath support, pitch accuracy and intonation, ability to pull off riffs and runs like I never could, and I've even extended my range above and below. However I feel like I still have so much more to go - the candy isn't out all over the floor just yet, but little pieces of it are showing through the cracks and coming out little by little every day. It's really inspiring me to keep hitting it even more consistently, I know that one day soon it will completely bust open :) That said I'm also excited to dig into your lessons on mix voice - I'm ready to take everything I've learned to the next level. Thanks for everything!
It does make me produce different kind of vocal quality, it is a high easy produced voice, sounds like a voice coming from somewhere in the back, and all chest resonance is gone. In spectro it looks like soft belting
Another great video with amazing insights! I can't stress enough how the proper repetition is the key. I love that you use a tool to find the coordination and then take that sensation and placement into a song. That's where the magic happens! I've actually found that developing falsetto helps to strengthen mix voice. Or maybe its the other way around... LOL Work the whole range, take it easy, and most of all make it fun!
I did this and the sigh really helped me and my mixed voices sounds axl rose-ish if that makes sense it sounds bad ass but I don't want to stay there forever
Hi tyler, a huge fan of your videos here 👋 got a little question, is ot possible that my excess mucus prevent me from getting a comfortable vocal fry? Sometimes it quite easy to get it high but sometimes when i use it, i immediately lose fry and pure cord closure. U r one of the resons I'm not giving up on singing but I gotta admit - it can get in your head sometimes
Yes, Tyler gave you the most valuable tip: "the more you hit, the stronger and more experienced you become, but you don't realize it right away, but keep going, keep going. Because through repetition, even the slowest person can learn." gratitude to you, Tyler, for sharing knowledge with us.👍👍👏👏
My vocal coach I naturally had amazing control of my mix voice; i’m 14 and he told me he’s never seen somebody my age hit it this well with everything going on 😂 thanks for this! now I have a better understanding of it:)
Not necessarily. But potentially this is just not the right exercise for you at this point in your development or you are just not executing it properly. It is difficult to say. Either way don't get stuck on something that isn't working keep moving on to find the thing that works and then you can extrapolate from there.
I would keep playing around with semi occlusions for a little while. Like the lip trills or puffy cheek and make sure the top notes feel good on those first.
This exercise is pretty good, and I believe what you think is happening is actually true, although it has a little more intricacies imo and i'd like to add on that, man, hoping you may read this! This exercise "should" work like wonders with someone who has already a strong voice, and balanced mechanics in their voice, but when someone has a lack of strength or coordination on their interarytenoids ( obliques and transverse ) and it may just fall apart, as it relies too much on them. Some people have atrophied adductors, sometimes causing hyperfunction of their TA/Vocalis relying on those for closure. If this was the case, its important to work a loooot on the IAs before attempting to mix, with a very open AA vowel as in cat, a Formula 1 car or a witches cackle, AND trying to flip into falseto slowly while keeping the metallic quality those sounds give. Trying to make the sound as ugly as you can and keeping the root of the tongue tender ( avoiding any type of tension really ) would be a very efficient approach on developing adductors. Cheers, man! I love your channel, please keep showing more exercises you find interesting or effective.
It’s not about developing stronger adductors. It’s about positioning them correctly. I have not found what your saying tj be useful in my experience. But if it is for you then keep doing it.
@@tylerwysong Have you had students with real bad habits, vocal trauma or lesions? In speech therapy it happens a lot that the vocal cords hypercompress to compensate poor closure. You see this phenomenon all the time with street merchants who yell all day. It sounds dull and woofy, sometimes strident when they have lots of strength and loudness. You can sing through less than perfect closure though, Michael Bolton is the perfect example, his closure is not perfect and he's learned to work around it through managing his compression in a different way.
@@tylerwysong no, not me, I've worked as a vocal coach though alongside several speech therapists, to fix my voice lol and others' with diverse health issues, so I've had to learn how to see the voice as a puzzle, dissect what is or are the mechanisms that are not working well and find pretty precise exercises to work on those. Kind of like when you got a knee surgery and need to work on your vastus medialis specifically to stabilize your knee cap healthily, you gotta work on certain flexion angles and speed of motion to gain deeper proprioception and get the muscle to help with the load, and not let the vastus lateralis carry all the load all the time. Just like in this situation, some people have hyper or hypo function on certain vocal muscle groups, and we gotta help them learn how to change the instincts of their voice, which muscle groups are activated and in what intensity. I don't know if you've had vocal injuries before, I hope not, it's awful lol but when you're in that situation, it's pretty rough, to see your previously working voice not wanting to do what its "supposed" to do, and it makes you see other people's struggles in a different way.
OMG what is that? I've reached notes that I had never reached ! Thank you so much !
😃😃😃💯💯💯
But it feels like all the air is leaking out and I have no support .what should I do

Omg I had a lot of pneumonic devices for mix voice, but this was like the missing jigsaw piece that fit them all together.

I used to think my range ran out at E4/F4. Between this technique and 'crying' I have been hitting up to Bb4!
Wow!!!
Life changing stuff bro! You getting into heaven off this one no matter what 😅!
I need some tips, when I try to shift into mix voice, my voice shifts to my head voice, any advice?
Incredible voice lesson! This lesson is a hidden gem.

I swear to god, I discovered my mix voice by copying the 'it is wednesday my dudes' meme
@@g_gockel wow that’s awesome. Is there any videos of you singing with it? I want to hear!

can you make a vid about how to develop vibrato ?
